From tween garage band beginnings to chart-topping success and a shocking behind-the-scenes story that reads like a Hollywood script, Tommy James, of Tommy James & the Shondells, joins Media Path to share dishy details about his remarkable journey while creating some of the most enduring hits of a generation!Tommy traces his musical roots back to age 12, when he formed his first band, The Echoes, with fellow classmates, a group that would eventually evolve into The Shondells.A job at a local record shop gave him an early education in the retail side of music, and by 14, he was recording his first single. That song, “Hanky Panky,” took on a life of its own when a Pittsburgh DJ began spinning it. From there, it quickly became the biggest record the city had ever seen and launched Tommy's career overnight. One problem: No Shondells. They had all moved on to college, families and other careers. Tommy club crawled to find Pittsburgh band, The Raconteurs who quickly agreed to become The Shondells. That success led Tommy to shop the record for a deal in New York City. Every top label wanted Tommy. One problem: They had all received a menacing phone call from mobbed up Morris Levy of Roulette Records. Tommy's dysfunctional mob family relationship provided him with an interesting exchange. He enjoyed complete creative control in the studio, leading to the hits, I Think We're Alone Now, Mony Tony, Crystal Blue Persuasion and Crimson and Clover… but… Morris pocketed most of Tommy's money and Roulette's Genovese Family ties kept The Shondells cranking out hits and selling over 110 million records without complaint. Our conversation explores the stark contrast between the band's bright, infectious music and the darker realities unfolding behind the scenes, which included ominous intimidation and physical threats.Despite the challenges, Tommy credits that time with giving him an invaluable education in the inner workings of the industry, from production to publishing, lessons that have informed him throughout his career. Today, he brings that rich perspective to his SiriusXM 60s channel radio show, called Gettin' Together, where he shares the stories behind the songs, offering context only culled from a performer who lived it.He also reflects on writing his memoir, Me, the Mob, and the Music, which he would only publish after the funeral of Vinnie “The Chin” Gigante, the last Genovese Family mobster. Tommy also shares early details about his story's upcoming adaptation into a mini-series.Plus we've got an IMDB Roulette round that's immersed in the era when variety shows brought teenage audiences their first peek at the real life musicians spinning around their record players! In current media recommendations: Marty: Life Is Short on Netflix andHazardous History with Henry Winkler on The History Channel and HuluPath Points of Interest:Tommy JamesTommy James on WikiMe, The Mob and the Music: One Helluva Ride with Tommy James and The Shondells.by Tommy James with Martin FitzpatrickTommy James Tour DatesTommy James on FacebookTommy James on YoutubeTommy James on InstagramHazardous History with Henry Winkler

Chef Life Radio leaves the studio and enters the classroom at AB Tech In Ashveille NC for a conversation with culinary students about leadership, burnout, boundaries, and success. The discussion focuses less on technique and more on how culinary school shapes identity, discipline, and the way students see their future in the industry. The conversation stresses the demands of the program and the need for organization, preparation, and persistence. The students are mentored by program director Chef Cathryn Horton abd warned hat the work can be overwhelming, but by taking on less and doing it well is better than trying to do too much and quitting. The discussion also touches on the importance of sleep, time management, and being honest about how work, family, and school affect daily life. One student, Allie Marie Councel shares that she is a mother, works, and is studying culinary arts after years in event and wedding coordination. She explains that cooking became important to her through family life and that she wants to learn the craft well so she can teach others. Her comments lead into a wider conversation about why people enter the industry and how personal goals can change over time.Chef Stephen Hertz joins the discussion and speaks about how his own idea of success changed. He says he once believed success meant running an independent restaurant, but later began to value teaching, family time, and a broader definition of achievement. He also talks about the transition from kitchen work to teaching, the challenge of paperwork and grading, and the need to understand leadership as part of the chef's role. The conversation closes with questions about being jaded, staying present, and avoiding the habit of always looking ahead to the next job. The main message is that chefs should define their own success, stay connected to the people around them, and remember that hospitality is about relationship, not just food.

This week, we welcome Sandrina Cinti, owner of Soulo Hair Studio in Plains, and discover she's the daughter of Frank's longtime friend and former high school football teammate, Nino, leading to a surprise call-in. Sandrina explains her services—cuts, color, foils, and especially hand-tied weft extensions—emphasizing extensions can add fullness and not just length, along with typical costs and 8–10 week maintenance. She shares her path through beauty school, learning hands-on, and why she chose to stay a solo stylist, plus her retro "old soul" branding and family influences. The conversation covers family memories, her elopement in Memphis during an Elvis-inspired trip, health and weight-loss journeys, and her lemonade truck side business, "Take It Squeezy."To learn more about SOULO Hair Studio, visit their Facebook and website. If you or someone you know wants to be featured on our podcast, visit our website!

This week, we talk with George and Kate Wolfe, a local, NEPA couple who own the family-operated Laundry Lane with locations in Edwardsville and Wilkes-Barre. They discuss transforming laundromats from the old "dirty and unsafe" stigma into clean, safe, modern spaces with cameras, customer support, card/app payment systems, and large-capacity machines, plus plans for pickup-and-delivery service. George and Kate share how hands-on ownership, learning the industry, and investing in upgrades (like lighting and payment tech) drive customer trust, along with challenges such as equipment and parts costs, finding good employees, and relying on distributors. They also describe buying their first laundromat with minimal out-of-pocket cash, purchasing the buildings, and building community-focused service. To keep up with Laundry Lane, give them a follow on Facebook. If you or someone you know wants to be featured on our podcast, visit our website!

In this episode, "Species Spotlight: Goldfish", the crew dives into the subject of man's favorite aquatic pet…the goldfish! Goldfish have been around a long time. They've been given as gifts for hundreds of years. They also are similar to dogs in the way that humans have domesticated and bred them into fancy versions of their wild counterparts. We talk about goldfish history, care, their use in research and of course the many reasons why NOT to release them into the wild! This podcast is brought to you by the ballyhoo halfbeak. While the name of this fish sounds more like an australian expression than an actual animal, the ballyhoo looks as insane as it sounds. If you've ever wanted to see a tiny narwhal with a sideways tail, then look no further. And furthermore, the halfbeak's extended mouthparts do not function as a fearsome sword, far from it. Rather they serve as some sort of sensing organ to evade prey. Cheers to you, dear fish, may you party the night away you old ballyhoo. Thanks for listening to Gettin' Fishy With It! It's the best time of year on the lacrosse calendar — every high school and college team's season has started and (as far as we know) no team's season has ended (and that's tough with teams in Minnesota and New Hampshire starting so late and teams in South Carolina ending so early). So what better time than now for IL's Terry Foy to bring on former Denver coach and 3d Lacrosse founder Jamie Munro to share his thoughts on the season (particularly dialed in on Princeton's men's team and Northwestern's women's team) before diving on his methodology behind his business, JM3 Lacrosse. Over the last 10 years, Jamie has learned about the field of ecological dynamics, and that leads to a coaching style known as a "constraints-led approach," which more acutely manifests in a "principles-based" way of playing. If you're looking for an academic and theoretical lacrosse conversation to start your Sunday, this one is it.
