Good Sunday to you,This week I'm talking to the goldbugs' goldbug, Alasdair Macleod.I'm more of a continued decline, muddle through guy, but Alasdair, as you shall see, is very much in the outright collapse camp and he sees that outright collapse coming soon, as you shall hear - within the next 18 months!Alasdair has spent decades studying financial markets, monetary history and the role of gold, and his argument is uncompromising: gold is money; pounds, dollars and euros are credit. I could not agree more. Confidence in fiat currencies is approaching breaking point, he says, and any currency that hopes to survive will ultimately have to become a credible substitute for gold through a proper gold standard. We also look at the fragility of the bond markets, starling, Japan, China and what a 21st-century gold standard might actually look like. My thanks as ever go to The Pure Gold Company for making these interviews possible. If you live in a third world country such as the UK, I urge you to own gold or silver. The pound will be further devalued, as will the euro and dollar. The bullion dealer I use and recommend is The Pure Gold Company. They deliver to the UK, the US, Canada and Europe. More here. This is the last of the videos for a while, as we take stock and evaluate. Broadly speaking, most of you seem to like them, so that's good.As always you watch the video above, or listen via the Substack app, Apple podcasts, Spotify et al.And if you want to follow Alasdair and read his immensely popular Substack, you can do that here: In other news, the latest edition of Charlie Morris's Atlas Pulse is out now. It's free, so get your copy here. Gold smells QE, he says. Well worth reading …And, finally, here is this week's piece - not on gold, but on copper. It's telling us something. Chef Marcus Samuelsson was taught in culinary school that French cuisine is the gold standard of cooking. One day, he realized, “somebody lied." Samuelsson, a black Swede and the youngest chef to ever receive a three-star review from The New York Times (at age 23), has forged a new culinary ethos that permeates his restaurants in Harlem, Montreal, and London. His flagship restaurant, Red Rooster Harlem, combines Swedish and Ethiopian influences into dishes that have helped launch an empire. The menu includes cornbread with lingonberry butter, a salad with berbere vinaigrette, and his own take on fried chicken: a hot honey yardbird. In this conversation, taped live on stage at the Museum of the City of New York, Samuelsson talks about the life experiences that have informed his approach to food. He responds to criticism of his Red Rooster restaurants, and tells us about a dish he's working on that gives a rare window into the mind of a chef. Spirit of God E4 — So far in this series, we've looked at how the Spirit is connected to life and wisdom in the Hebrew Bible. The third most consistent idea associated with the Spirit is God's word, or speech, happening through a human; the Bible calls this prophecy. While most ancient prophecy involved deities taking over a person's mind, we see a different experience among many of Israel's prophets. In this episode, Jon and Tim explore this spectrum and focus on prophets like Ezekiel and Micah who experienced a true partnership with the Spirit as they spoke for God. Hey there Voices of the Bench community, this is Trish Jones with Ivoclar. If you've been curious about fast-firing zirconia to improve efficiency but aren't convinced it can deliver predictable, high-quality results, I'd encourage you to connect with us. Our new IPS Emax Zirconia offers multiple fast-fire protocols designed to help save you valuable production time while maintaining consistent results. Time is money in every lab. Don't wait. Reach out to your local Ivoclar rep today and discover how IPS Emax Zirconia can help streamline your workflow. As full-arch dentistry continues to grow, so do the demands on today's dental laboratories. That's why Knight Dental recently launched SimplyARCH Studio, a dedicated production environment built exclusively for full-arch restorations. To support this specialized workflow, Knight invested in an XTCERA milling system and carefully evaluated multiple CAM software solutions before choosing hyperDENT. The decision came down to exceptional milling quality, minimal hand finishing, and impressive production efficiency. But what truly set hyperDENT apart was the implementation process. From the very beginning, the team provided more than software training—they shared the knowledge and experience needed to build an optimized workflow for complex full-arch cases. With proven expertise in advanced milling strategies and laboratory production, hyperDENT helped ensure SimplyARCH Studio was designed for long-term success from day one.Matt Everatt joins Elvis and Barb for a fascinating conversation that takes a deep dive into his journey through the dental laboratory industry and the story behind his book, The Invisible Profession. From discovering dental technology at 16 and specializing in maxillofacial prosthetics and orthodontics to working in hospitals, developing early sleep-apnea appliances, and nearly leaving the profession altogether, Matt's career has taken some seriously interesting turns. Eventually, he helped co-found S4S, building a successful business around sleep-apnea appliances, occlusal splints, orthodontics, and more before eventually stepping away from ownership. This week on Voices From the Bench, we finally sit down with someone we've been wanting to have on the show for a LONG time—Philip Gold! Philip grew up in the dental laboratory, quite literally pulling teeth out of formaldehyde bottles in his father Raymond Gold's lab in Atlanta. His father started the laboratory in 1946, and Philip eventually found himself following in those footsteps, although not without first taking a seven-year detour working for Williams Gold. That experience gave him the opportunity to visit laboratories all over the country, learn from some of the best in the industry, and see firsthand how different labs operated. Philip eventually returned to the family laboratory in 1980 and began the process of taking over from his father. What followed was a career built around learning, adapting, building teams, and—most importantly—relationships. Philip shares what it was like stepping into a leadership role at a young age, earning the respect of experienced technicians, and learning that being a leader isn't about knowing everything yourself, but understanding the work well enough to help the people around you succeed. He also talks about selling the laboratory to National Dentex with the goal of giving the business and its people an opportunity to continue growing, only to eventually find his way back into the laboratory world with By Design Dental Studio alongside his daughter Katie and Denise. And if you know Philip, you know he's never stopped learning. He currently holds six CDT certifications, including ceramics, crown and bridge, partials, implants, dentures, and digital. His story about preparing for the digital practical exam is a perfect example of his determination—his first practice run took seven and a half hours for an exam designed to be completed in just over five. So he reorganized, practiced again, changed his workflow, and eventually got it down to under five hours. And of course, Philip isn't pursuing certifications just for himself. He wants to set an example, motivate the next generation of technicians, and encourage more people in the laboratory to continue learning. We also get into the importance of customer service, why relationships are at the heart of this industry, and why sometimes the best thing a laboratory can do is simply pick up the phone and help. Philip shares his philosophy that when something goes wrong, you drop everything and make it right. We talk about giving back to the industry, the people who helped shape Philip's career, and how the dental laboratory community has always been willing to share knowledge when you're willing to ask. And yes… somewhere along the way we also hear the greatest “okey-doke” story in dental laboratory history. Special Guest: Phillip Gold.

In this episode, Scott and Eric explore: Why "Bitcoin, not crypto" is more than a slogan — and what separates Bitcoin from the ~3,500 other digital assets The two functions of money (store of value vs. medium of exchange) and why no historically "sound" money has existed The 1913 creation of the Fed, the ~97% decline in the dollar's purchasing power, and the 1971 suspension of the gold standard Gold's "weight problem" and how Bitcoin's weightlessness and absolute scarcity are designed to address it What absolute scarcity (21 million cap) means versus gold's supply responsiveness to demand Why family offices think in third-to-fifth-generation terms — for both wealth and values Bitcoin as a "non-sovereign," bottom-up asset that reached regular people before elites Objection handling: volatility, "no intrinsic value," and correlation with the NASDAQ/tech markets Whether correlation invalidates the monetary thesis — and how the "frame" you enter from changes the answer Where Bitcoin sits in its adoption arc: currently more store of value than medium of exchange The self-custody vs. ETF trade-off, including multi-sig setups and downside-risk-mitigated ETF structures Where a skeptical-but-open advisor should begin their due diligence **This is the Optimized Advisor Podcast, where we focus on optimizing the wellbeing and best practices of insurance and financial professionals. Rothbard argues that 1931–33 was the last step in a long process rather than a sudden break. Government's compulsory monopoly of coinage came first, defended by fears of private fraud that the long record of official debasement makes hollow. He answers the Gresham's Law objection, then traces how the royal stamp shifted emphasis from a coin's weight to its name.
Rothbard declines both the fashionable dismissal of gold and the restorationist call to return to the pre-1933 standard, which he judges too far decayed to have lasted. He then states his ethical premise plainly: the free market, extended to money itself. Against the claim that money is whatever government says it is, he warns that command of the unit of account is command of the whole society.
Leland Yeager, an advocate of freely fluctuating fiat money, concedes that a 100 percent gold standard would end reserve drains, forced contraction, and balance-of-payments anxiety—problems he attributes to fractional reserves rather than to gold. Rothbard quotes him at length, asks why he rejects what he has just praised, and pushes the reductio further: where exactly is the geographical boundary of a money?
Writing in 1991, Rothbard sets the essay in its original context: Bretton Woods as an international dollar standard masquerading as a gold standard. He contrasts it with the classical pre-1914 system, in which every currency was a defined weight of gold redeemable on demand, then recounts how the breakdowns of 1968 and 1971 tested Misesian predictions against an Establishment certain that gold would fall to $6 an ounce.
The conceptual core of the essay. Rothbard answers the charge that gold advocates want government to fix a price by rejecting its premise—“dollar” was never an independent entity but a name for a weight of gold. He shows how money is properly obtained only through production, and argues that a bare name could never have arisen as money on a free market.
The transition problem. Rothbard weighs forcing deflation down to the existing gold stock against raising the gold price to match the dollar supply, defends deflation against its reputation, and sets out a six-point program. He parts with Mises and Hazlitt on sequencing, and closes by insisting that scholars must argue for what is true rather than for what is currently expedient.

Gold standard PBL isn't a fun project with a poster at the end. Lisa Mireles of PBLWorks explains what a real project based learning classroom looks and sounds like — and how to teach it without falling behind on standards. Lisa Mireles, Ed.D., is Managing Director of Digital Curriculum at PBLWorks (formerly the Buck Institute for Education). She's taught bilingual students in California, led schools in Indonesia and India, served as an IB coordinator, principal, and assistant superintendent, and was named HIDOE Kaua'i Complex Educational Officer of the Year in 2018. In this episode, you'll learn: • What the Gold Standard framework actually contains — seven essential project design elements plus seven project based teaching practices — and why a great project still fails without the teaching moves • What you see and hear in a gold standard PBL classroom: a productive buzz, a project wall with the driving question and milestones, students returning to their need-to-knows, teachers coaching instead of lecturing • Concrete projects outside business and computer science: designing a community microgrid in high school science, designing a custom diamond in middle school geometry, and a second grade community heroes gallery • How PBL turns literacy into an all-day practice — reading, writing, speaking, and listening — rather than something that only happens during the literacy block • Lisa's answer to the time squeeze: coverage isn't enough, and going deeper on power standards teaches more than racing through everything • The principal move worth stealing — have teachers mark what they planned to teach, then revisit after the project to mark what they actually taught deeply. It's always about twice as much. • Where to find more than 100 free project ideas, searchable by grade and subject, that scale up or down for your students Full show notes, resources, and the complete transcript: https://www.coolcatteacher.com/e958 If this episode gave you something you can use, take a second to leave a rating or review wherever you're listening. It helps other teachers find the show. And if a colleague is on the fence about project based learning, send this one their way.

The statement comes amid claims that clinics in Taipei were reportedly out of COVID-19 vaccine doses. Concern over a lack of vaccine doses comes after the C-D-C last week announced the extension of its publicly funded COVID-19 vaccination program through September 28 due to a rise in the number of cases. According to the C-D-C, Taiwan entered a new COVID-19 epidemic phase two weeks ago, as outpatient and emergency room visits rose by 66.5-per cent in the week of July 12 to 18 from the previous week. The publicly funded vaccination had been scheduled to end July 31. Is internal evaluation the gold standard in pelvic health? We believe the answer is yes.Lately, we've seen more clinicians claiming that internal pelvic floor evaluation isn't necessary—or isn't the gold standard of pelvic rehab. We don't think this is just another social media debate. We think it's one of the most important conversations our profession needs to have. We're going to be diving deep into this topic. But for Part 1, we discuss: Why this issue matters so much for the future of pelvic health What the pioneers of our profession fought to establish The strongest arguments against internal evaluation—and where we think they fall short Why "access to care" shouldn't mean lowering the standard of care Why extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence (Also, the caveat we shouldn't need....Every internal evaluation should be clinically appropriate and performed only with informed patient consent. Of course.)Instead, this episode asks a bigger question: What should the gold standard actually be for pelvic rehab?About Nicole & Jesse CozeanPelvic health is hard. We want everyone in this field to have a joyful, impactful career. And for business owners to build something that truly works for them.
Send us a text if you want to be on the Podcast & explain why!Three different ads. Three different certifications. All calling themselves the “gold standard.” That's where we start, because if everyone can claim the top spot, the phrase stops being a standard and turns into a slogan. We break down what most entry-level personal training certifications actually require, and why “read a book, pass a multiple choice test” is a shaky foundation for coaching real humans safely. We get specific about what the job demands in the real world: movement assessment, exercise selection by pattern, smart loading, regressions and progressions, and the people skills that drive retention. We also talk about scope of practice, including when a trainer should refer out and why having a trusted physical therapist or registered dietitian in your corner matters. Feeling “ready” is not the same as being ready, and we dig into why confidence surveys and quick-cert timelines can create a false sense of competence. Then we widen the lens to accountability. We talk about the incentives in the certification business, how specialization bundles and marketing dollars shape what gets taught, and why gyms share blame when they skip true onboarding and mentorship. Finally, we lay out what we believe a real gold standard looks like: hands-on education, consistent feedback, updated exercise science, and the fundamentals of anatomy and programming that let trainers coach any body, not just their own.If you care about the future of personal training, hit subscribe, share this with a trainer who needs to hear it, and leave a rating and review so more coaches find the higher standard.Want to become a SUCCESSFUL personal trainer? via Gold Standard Economics: Why do so many modern wars seem to produce economic winners long before the fighting ends? In this interview, James Corbett examines the financial incentives, geopolitical strategy, and monetary systems that he argues often lie beneath the official narratives surrounding major conflicts. The discussion explores the military-industrial complex, the petrodollar, sanctions, BRICS, and why following the flow of money can offer a different perspective on world events. Corbett also shares practical ideas for strengthening local economies and reducing dependence on centralized financial systems. Whether you agree with his conclusions or not, this conversation challenges viewers to think critically about the economic forces that shape global affairs.
Canada's immigration system was once the gold standard under the Harper government. It was fair, secure, and built on enforcing the rules. After a decade of mismanagement, that reputation has been eroded. The Auditor General uncovered more than 153,000 suspected cases of international student permit fraud, yet the Liberals still can't explain how many of […]

Everyone evaluating a business purchase today fixates on the same thing. Can this survive AI? Wrong lens. Wrong era. Wrong way to size up a deal. Tony Xu ran product and engineering at Flippa for five years before taking over as CEO. He's sat behind the scenes of thousands of transactions, tracked which categories exploded and which quietly faded, and seen firsthand what happens once AI actually touches a working business. And he'll say something most of the doom content circulating right now won't. AI isn't hunting your business down. It's clearing out the grunt work inside it. Photo editing. Listing copy. Animation that used to demand a full production team. Rough drafts of ad creative. Tasks that used to consume a founder's entire week now take minutes. Treating that as a threat misses what it really is. A head start. But here's the part almost nobody admits out loud. Nothing essential has changed. Who you reach. What people remember about your brand. Whether your customers stick around. Claude can write your listing copy. It can't earn you a decade-long relationship that gets your product onto a shelf. It's not handling your cash flow. It's not securing your credit line. It's not the reason someone buys from you twice. The businesses pulling ahead right now aren't the ones hiding from AI. They're run by people who know precisely where its usefulness ends and the real value begins. In this episode, Jaryd talks with Tony about what's really moving inside Flippa's marketplace. Why $250K to $5M has become the sweet spot for the sharpest buyers. How specialist operators are walking into neglected businesses and multiplying category growth in a matter of months. The difference between a roll-up play and a specialist play. And why chasing "AI-proof" is precisely the wrong instinct to bring into diligence. They also break down the two warning signs that should end a deal immediately. How a buyer's own comfort with AI can cut a year-long ramp-up down to half that. And why the businesses that seem the most behind the curve might actually be the cheapest assets on the whole platform. The buyers nervous about AI aren't wrong to be paying attention. They're just tracking the wrong risk. Tony isn't.

Mandy Connell's latest episode is a wild ride, tackling everything from the "goblintimacy" dating trend to the US funding of biological research in Ukraine. The conversation starts with a humorous take on dating, where Mandy shares her thoughts on the idea of showing up on a first date as your "real goblin self." She also dives into the world of politics, discussing the recent controversy surrounding Denver Public Schools Superintendent Alex Marrero and the potential implications of his departure. The episode also covers some serious topics, including the rise of Anti-Semitism in Boulder, Colorado, and the importance of teaching children about the Holocaust. Mandy shares a disturbing story about a student who was subjected to anti-Semitic bullying in a Boulder Valley school, and the lack of action taken by the school district. She also discusses the recent FBI bust of an alleged attack on the White House, which was motivated by anti-Semitic views. In addition to these serious topics, the episode touches on some lighter subjects, such as the importance of weightlifting for longevity and the benefits of combining aerobic exercise with resistance training. Mandy also shares a fascinating story about a study that found that lifting weights can reduce the risk of dying prematurely from any cause, including heart disease and neurological diseases. Kelvin Washington and Ephraim Salaam break down Patrick Mahomes’ latest contract extension with the Kansas City Chiefs—and whether he still deserves to be the NFL’s gold standard at quarterback. Kelvin argues that Mahomes remains the benchmark, saying even with a couple of “down years,” he’s still the player every franchise would build around. Ephraim pushes back, questioning whether Mahomes’ recent performance has been good enough to justify that label, and suggests quarterbacks like Josh Allen or Matthew Stafford may be setting the tone right now. The two go back and forth on what defines greatness in today’s NFL: long-term dominance, recent production, or postseason success—and whether Mahomes still checks every box.
In this episode, the we welcome back guest host, Dr. Neelou Weeker, and ED nurse, Leigh Clary, to discuss the critical intersection of language barriers, patient equity, and emergency care. Through two powerful clinical scenarios, the team explores the “gold standards” of medical translation, the challenges of resource-limited community settings, and how TeamSTEPPS tools—specifically closed-loop communication and situational monitoring—can be leveraged to ensure true informed consent and patient safety. The Gold Standard vs. Clinical Reality Providing equitable care means ensuring every patient, regardless of language or culture, fully understands their medical team. While academic centers are often highly resourced, executing communication seamlessly remains a universal challenge. 1. Translation Tools and Hierarchy The Gold Standard: Video- or audio-based professional interpretation tablets allow face-to-face or direct vocal translation. The Secondary Backup: In-house dual-handset “blue phones” connect directly to professional phone lines when tablets experience connectivity issues. The Tertiary Backup: Multilingual staff members can help act as a bridge. Many institutions feature language fluencies on staff ID badges. Note: Staff members should only be used to establish initial rapport or identify the required dialect, not as official medical interpreters. The Danger of Family Interpreters: While family members bring invaluable cultural context and an understanding of the patient’s baseline, studies show they only correctly interpret medical dialogue 19% of the time. The Bottom Line: Always utilize the official route first. When technology fails, do your absolute best—never settle for “good enough” when better communication is possible. 2. Academic vs. Community and Rural Settings Emergency medicine requires extreme adaptability. In resource-limited community or rural hospitals, finding an interpreter for less commonly spoken languages can take upwards of 30 minutes. Physicians must sometimes physically carry translation phones from room to room while managing other patients just to maintain an open line with a rare-dialect interpreter. Applying TeamSTEPPS to Patient Communication We routinely use TeamSTEPPS tools to communicate with our fellow clinicians, but we must remember that the patient is the most important member of the healthcare team. 1. Closed-Loop Communication & The Teach-Back Method To confirm true patient understanding, avoid simple “yes or no” questions, nods, or smiles. Instead, utilize the Teach-Back Method, requiring the patient to repeat the instructions or choices back to you in their own words. How to Phrase It (Taking Responsibility): “I want to make sure that I have been clear in what I’ve said to you. To help me feel reassured that I communicated everything correctly, could you tell me what you understand is going on?” Clinical Value: This is particularly vital for high-stakes decisions and ED discharge instructions. Multimodal Approach: In high-stakes moments, combine professional translation, family context, and teach-back to minimize errors. 2. Situational Monitoring Resuscitative environments are chaotic, and the primary physician trying to run a cod or secure an airway has immense cognitive load. The Team Safety Net: Other team members (nurses, techs, scribes) can help monitor the situation and catch critical communication errors. Reconciling Clinical Urgency with Informed Consent How do you balance the immediate need to save a life with the time-consuming process of formal translation? The ABC Priority: First and foremost, secure Airway, Breathing, and Circulation. If a patient presents to the ED in extremis and cannot communicate, clinicians must operate under the assumption that the patient wants life-saving measures performed. Task Delegation: While the medical team manages the immediate ABCs, immediately task support staff (such as social workers) with finding an official interpreter, locating family members, and gathering background information. Next Steps: Once the ABCs are stable, the team has the time and space to pause, establish formal translation, and dive deeper into informed consent for further procedures. Key Takeaways Acknowledge the Bias of Urgency: Time pressure can tempt us to bypass official translation channels. Guard against this by maintaining an equity-first mindset. Close the Loop with Patients: Ensure they can paraphrase their care plan or consent choices. Protect the Team via Shared Roles: Trust your teammates to monitor the big picture and catch subtle communication gaps during high-stress resuscitations. Do you use TeamSTEPPS or a similar model in your ED? We'd love to hear what has been successful for your team. In this episode of the Crazy Wisdom Podcast, host Stewart Alsop sits down with software engineer and entrepreneur Arowolo Muritadhor for a wide-ranging conversation that moves from agriculture and manufacturing in Nigeria to the evolving role of crypto in the country's economy. They touch on how hyperinflation, particularly the naira's dramatic drop in 2023, pushed Nigerians toward stablecoins as a practical savings tool, and how informal kiosk networks have stepped in where traditional banking infrastructure falls short. The conversation also covers the tension between government regulation and the permissionless nature of blockchain technology, comparisons between the decline of the Roman Empire and current shifts in US economic dominance, the role of mobile payments in Africa, language learning, and whether AI agents have any real utility in crypto infrastructure yet. You can connect with Arowolo on LinkedIn and X at @armolas_06.Timestamps00:00 - Host welcomes Arowolo Muritadhor, introducing topics of software engineering and animal food production in Nigeria.05:00 - Discussion shifts to manufacturing, components assembly, and China's dominance in low-cost production globally.10:00 - Conversation explores crypto adoption in Nigeria as a network state phenomenon, separating informed users from mainstream population.15:00 - Mobile payments and kiosk ATM replacements emerge as critical financial infrastructure bridging unbanked Nigerians.20:00 - Roman Empire parallels drawn to modern crypto taxation, government control, and inevitable death-and-taxes reality.25:00 - Bitcoin and Ethereum permissionless nature debated against government wallet-level censorship vulnerabilities.30:00 - AI agents examined as crypto infrastructure tools, revealing mostly trading bots rather than foundational builders.35:00 - Nigeria's 2023 naira collapse compared to Argentina's hyperinflation, driving citizens toward stablecoin dollar savings.40:00 - US Treasury history unpacked through FDR gold confiscation and Nixon ending convertibility, paralleling empire decline.45:00 - Crypto reframed as anti-bank rather than purely anti-government, enabling freedom through immutable accountability.50:00 - Transparent blockchain ledgers discussed as potential government accountability tools across democracy, republic, and oligarchy structures.Key Insights1. Nigeria has a significant divide between its northern and southern regions in terms of economic activity. The north, centered around Abuja, is more agricultural with substantial cattle production, while Lagos in the south functions as a dense urban and commercial hub. This geographic and economic split shapes how different financial tools and technologies are adopted across the country.2. China's dominance in low-cost manufacturing has made it nearly impossible for countries like Nigeria, the United States, or Argentina to compete on price alone. The more realistic path for developing economies is to import components and focus on local assembly and creativity, which is where meaningful economic participation becomes possible.3. Crypto adoption in Nigeria accelerated dramatically around 2023 when the naira experienced a sharp devaluation against the US dollar. Before that point, saving in dollars was difficult for many Nigerians, especially those without formal bank accounts, making stablecoins like USDT an attractive and practical alternative for preserving wealth.4. Informal kiosk operators in Nigeria have organically become a substitute for ATMs, giving communities access to basic financial services where traditional banking infrastructure does not reach. This grassroots financial layer is now a key entry point for integrating crypto and stablecoin payments into everyday commerce.5. Governments are increasingly trying to regulate crypto at the wallet and centralized exchange level, using tax compliance as a primary mechanism. While Bitcoin and Ethereum remain largely permissionless, the practical chokepoints for most users remain centralized platforms where identity and transactions can be monitored.6. The historical parallel between the fall of the Roman Empire and current shifts in US economic and geopolitical power offers a useful frame for understanding why crypto matters. Just as Rome debased its currency and struggled to sustain imperial costs, the US faces mounting debt and a financialized economy that may accelerate dollar instability and push more people toward alternative stores of value.7. One genuinely constructive use case for blockchain beyond speculation is immutable accountability, particularly for public institutions and prediction markets. A transparent ledger that governments or officials voluntarily adopt could create verifiable records of decisions and promises, reducing corruption and increasing trust in ways that traditional governance structures have struggled to achieve.

This episode is brought to you by LMNT, Fatty15, and Caldera Lab. What if obesity isn't a willpower problem at all? In this deeply eye-opening conversation, Chase sits down with bariatric surgeon and obesity medicine specialist Dr. Betsy Dovec, MD to unpack the science, psychology, and stigma surrounding obesity in America today. From GLP-1 medications like Ozempic and Mounjaro to bariatric surgery, emotional eating, food addiction, metabolic dysfunction, and the failures of fad diets, this episode challenges nearly everything we think we know about weight loss. Whether you're someone struggling with weight, supporting a loved one, or simply curious about the future of metabolic health, this conversation offers nuance, compassion, and hard truths that could completely reshape your understanding of obesity and modern wellness. IN THIS EPISODE YOU WILL LEARN Why Dr. Dovec believes obesity is primarily biological — not a lack of discipline The hidden role trauma and emotional safety can play in weight gain How bariatric surgery changes hormones, hunger, and "food noise" The truth about Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, and long-term GLP-1 use Why most people regain weight after stopping GLP-1 medications The difference between gastric bypass and gastric sleeve surgery Why visceral fat is more dangerous than the number on the scale How obesity impacts cardiovascular disease, diabetes, fatty liver, and longevity The surprising reason BMI may be one of the worst health markers Why women account for nearly 85% of bariatric surgery patients How sugar and ultra-processed foods are driving the obesity epidemic What long-term success after bariatric surgery actually requires The psychological side of transformation and behavior change Why "food noise" may be one of the biggest hidden barriers to weight loss How bariatric surgery and GLP-1s may work best together The future of weight loss medicine, surgery, and employer healthcare coverage Follow Betsy @drdovec Follow Chase @chase_chewning ----- 00:00 — Is Obesity a Willpower Problem or a Biological Problem? 04:40 — When Should Someone Consider Bariatric Surgery? 08:00 — Trauma, Emotional Eating & Feeling Unsafe in the Body 14:20 — Why Obesity Is More Complex Than Calories In vs. Calories Out 15:40 — Why Men Wait Too Long to Address Their Health 17:42 — Bariatric Surgery Misconceptions & Who Actually Qualifies 19:00 — How Bariatric Surgery Immediately Improves Diabetes 20:40 — Why BMI Is a Flawed Health Marker 23:00 — Visceral Fat, Fatty Liver Disease & Sugar Addiction 27:00 — Is Obesity Truly Reversible? 29:20 — Why Gastric Bypass Is Still the "Gold Standard" 31:55 — How Gastric Bypass Surgery Actually Works 35:00 — Nutrient Absorption & Supplements After Surgery 37:00 — What Daily Life Looks Like After Bariatric Surgery 42:00 — Food Noise, Hunger Hormones & Feeling Full for the First Time 45:00 — Risks, Complications & Safety of Bariatric Surgery 49:45 — Insurance Coverage, Costs & Why Employers Are Paying for Surgery 54:30 — Long-Term Outcomes & Lifespan Benefits 57:00 — Eating Disorders, Addiction Transfer & Alcohol After Surgery 01:02:00 — Why Dr. Dovec Prioritizes Lower Carb Nutrition 01:05:00 — The Ethics of the Weight Loss Industry 01:10:00 — GLP-1 Medications vs. Bariatric Surgery 01:15:00 — Why Bariatric Surgery Numbers Are Falling 01:20:00 — Rapid Fire: Ozempic, Body Positivity & Discipline 01:25:00 — Parenting, Childhood Obesity & The Future of Weight Loss 01:29:00 — What "Ever Forward" Means to Dr. Dovec ----- Episode resources: Watch and subscribe on YouTube Learn more at BodyByBariatrics.com FREE variety sample pack of LMNT electrolytes Additional 15% off Fatty15 with code EVERFORWARD 20% off Caldera Lab men's skincare with code EVERFORWARD
The latest Tin Foil Hat episode with the Paranoid American packs a rapid-fire mix of conspiracies, linking secret societies, the pineal gland, and modern myths like Frazzledrip to alleged mind control programs such as MK-ULTRA and trauma-based conditioning. It dives into darker themes—Satanic Panic, ritual abuse, and ancient deities—while tying in pop culture touchpoints like A Clockwork Orange and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas as potential symbols of hidden influence. Blending historical experiments, fringe science, and internet lore, the episode presents a fast-moving narrative that blurs the line between documented events and modern conspiracy culture.
