Miki Barber is an American sprinter who competes in the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dash. She is an Olympian, World Champion and 5x World Championship team member. As an NCAA athlete, she was a 20x All-American, 5x NCAA Champion, 2x Scholar Athlete of the year and made the Olympics as a sophomore. In 2015, she was selected to the University of South Carolina Hall of Fame. Miki knew early on that she wanted to be a professional athlete. Along with her twin sister to compete alongside her, support her and ensure they were having fun, “The Barber Twins” both won numerous world titles and participated in numerous ad campaigns including BMW, Nike, Adidas, and ESPN Magazine. Through faith, persistence, and desire to challenge incorrect assumptions, she has competed at the highest level for the past 20 years. Despite having two foot surgeries that paused her career, she chose a never give up mindset that enabled her to rehab herself back on top where everyone could notice her big hair, glossed lips and ink gloves. Her philosophy has always been, “when you look good, you feel good.” @mikimango

As a mentor or keynote speaker, G is always looking for ways to inspire and motivate through her words and by example. Given her proven track record, it's no surprise that G retired at 39 from a highly successful 20-year career, now focusing on her and her husband's businesses and investments from warm and sunny Florida. It's no further surprise that G is pursuing her passion for writing to help others have happy and fulfilling lives and relationships. As an author, G is carrying out her personal mission to deliver a message of love through every word she speaks (or writes) and action she takes, reflective of her favorite F words – Family, Fun, Faith, Fitness, Food, Finances, Freedom, and Fulfillment. Intersections: Where Diversity, Equity and Design Meet is a Fall 2022 Series at The National Building Museum. It brings together leading Black voices in design, art, and architecture for a series of dynamic discussions about culture, equity and representation through the lens of design. In this episode, we talk to Dr. Mabel Wilson about researching anti-black spaces, the mental toll it can bring and the Memorial to Enslaved Laborers. In this episode of the podcast, Jonathan Moody, AIA, shares his personal journey and the lessons he learned about the power of possibility. Jonathan learned from his father that success in the field of architecture was attainable, despite the challenges and biases he faced. He reflects on the impact of President Obama's visit to the 2022 AIA convention, the story behind Moody Nolan receiving the AIA Firm Award and the highs and lows of his journey as a college athlete and architecture student. His story serves as an inspiration for anyone seeking to overcome challenges and achieve their goals. Launching September 16th and running through December 14th, Intersections engages nationally recognized Black architects, designers and artists in conversations focused on social justice in the built environment. Through interactive lectures and hands-on workshops, this series is designed to provoke new thinking, spark conversation, enlighten and empower. Nov 29 LARGE FIRM ROUND TABLE...AT THE INTERSECTION OF EQUITY, ADVOCACY AND INDUSTRY Dec 14 CORY HENRY...AT THE INTERSECTION OF DESIGN, DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNITY Born into a family legacy of architecture, Jonathan grew up hearing his father—a Black architect— speak about discrimination and a lack of diversity in the profession. Nearly two decades later, Jonathan faced similar struggles in higher education while pursuing both architecture and athletics. As a Black athlete, he leveraged football to pursue architecture, an opportunity to test whether architecture was his passion or family inheritance. Upon arriving at Cornell University, Jonathan was advised that the demands of playing football and completing his B.Arch would not be possible— he could not do both successfully. Jonathan ventured to prove he could overcome adversity and model a new way of being a student-athlete of color. He played football all four years of his eligibility and became Cornell's Scholar Athlete of the Year. He later won Cornell's Bronze Alpha Rho Chi Medal, which recognizes graduating architecture students for leadership and service to the future of the profession. In 2020, Jonathan became CEO of Moody Nolan, championing the firm's growth and service to the community. Through Jonathan's leadership, Moody Nolan has expanded to 12 locations nationwide with 250 professional staff. More significant to Jonathan than the firm's growth, is the firm's impact on diverse urban communities. Jonathan believes focused efforts in these communities propel the profession toward empowering and uplifting diverse populations. Through his career, Jonathan's work is shaped by his commitment to serving the underserved. He regularly mentors at-risk youth and serves on local boards leading community development projects for low income neighborhoods. In all he does, Jonathan strives to create a more just and equitable future for all.

When Danielle Viglione was 11, she boldly told her parents that she was going to run a marathon. They compromised on a half-marathon and were surprised when their determined daughter not only finished the 13.1-mile course, but crossed the line in second place. This was just one indicator of the fierce competitor that Danielle was becoming. It became even more apparent when she shattered California state and national basketball scoring records, including several set by the legendary Cheryl Miller. Part of Danielle's scoring prowess came from her embracing the three-pointer long before it became so popular, once hitting the same number of triples in a game as Klay Thompson's NBA record (14). While playing for the University of Texas, Danielle showed that she was equally committed in the classroom, and was named Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She went on to play for the Sacramento Monarchs in the first WNBA season and then spent nine seasons playing pro overseas. Since hanging up her sneakers, Danielle co-founded Sacramento Skills Academy and is an in-demand speaker and camp coach.  In this episode, Danielle shares: How she was motivated by beating her brother and the neighborhood boys on the courtWhy her daily routine of making 500 shots was so effective                             What lessons she learned about hoops and life from Hall of Fame coach Jody ConradtWhen her faith and skills came together in her most memorable game                        How she's impacting women's basketball through Sacramento Skills Academy and Athletes UnlimitedTrain with Danielle at Sacramento Skills Academy and follow her on Instagram.

AnyQuestion - https://Anyquestion.com/RyanMurphy   When Ryan Murphy was just eight years old, he dreamed of becoming an Olympic swimmer and breaking world records. Thirteen years later, at the 2016 summer Olympics in Rio, his lifelong dream came true. There, Ryan not only became an Olympian, but he crushed his Olympic goals by winning three gold medals in the 100 meter backstroke, the 200-meter backstroke and the 4×100 meter medley relay, setting a new world record for the 100-meter backstroke. In 2017, he turned pro, earned the PAC 12 Scholar Athlete of the Year award and completed his B.S. in Business Administration from the prestigious Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley. Guest: Jerry Stackhouse, Vanderbilt University Head CoachIn this week's coaching conversation, Vanderbilt University head coach Jerry Stackhouse joins the podcast to defense, grading, his NBA influence, and connecting ideas for players. Entering his third season with the Commodores, Jerry Stackhouse has made a noticeable impact in turning around the Vanderbilt program. In his first season, two Commodores were selected in the NBA Draft, including lottery pick Aaron Nesmith who was chosen 14th overall by the Boston Celtics, and junior guard Saben Lee who was picked 37th overall by the Detroit Pistons. Stackhouse’s creative offensive sets enabled Nesmith to lead the nation in 3-point field goals made and 3-point field goal percentage (before a foot injury sidelined him after 14 games) and propelled Lee to three 30-point games and a second-team All-SEC selection in 2019-20. Most recently, Scotty Pippen Jr. earned All-SEC first-team honors and set the school scoring record for a sophomore in 2020-21. He finished second in the SEC in scoring (20.8 points per game) and assists (4.9), while sophomore forward Dylan Disu led the SEC in rebounding (9.2) and was named the conference’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Prior to Vanderbilt, Stackhouse served as an assistant coach with the Memphis Grizzlies which was preceded by two seasons as head coach of the NBA G League’s Raptors 905. As head coach of Raptors 905, Stackhouse earned NBA G League Coach of the Year honors after he steered the team to a 39-11 regular-season record and 6-1 playoff record in 2016-17, en route to the team’s first NBA G League championship. The following season, Stackhouse led the Raptors 905 to a 31-19 regular-season record and a second straight appearance in the NBA G League Finals. Prior to taking the head coaching job in the G League, Stackhouse was an assistant coach for the Toronto Raptors during the 2015-16 season. In his 18-year NBA career, Jerry Stackhouse appeared in 970 games (564 starts) for eight teams and averaged 16.9 points, 3.3 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and 31.2 minutes. A two-time All-Star with the Detroit Pistons (2000, 2001), Stackhouse posted career highs of 29.8 points (second in the NBA) during the 2000-01 season, leading the league in total points and free throws made. He reached the 2006 NBA Finals as a member of the Dallas Mavericks. After playing for legendary head coach Dean Smith and earning Sports Illustrated Player of the Year, All-America first team, and All-ACC honors at North Carolina, Stackhouse was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers with the third overall pick in the 1995 NBA Draft. He was named to the 1995-96 NBA All-Rookie first team after leading all first-year players in scoring (19.8 points). In 2011, Stackhouse launched Stackhouse Elite, an AAU program based in Atlanta, Georgia. The program captured numerous titles in the 15U, 16U, and 17U divisions.Breakdown1:00 - Shaping His Philosophy4:00 - Emphasis on Defense6:00 - Balance of Offense and Defense8:00 - Defensive Mechanism12:00 - Scouting Report Specifics18:00 - Close-Outs24:00 - Competitive Cauldron28:00 - Freeing Players33:00 - Coaching Style36:00 - Grading On and Off38:00 - Corner Threes41:00 - Ball Screens45:00 - Teaching on Weak Side47:00 - Early Tag Concept49:00 - Blocking Charge53:00 - Smartest Generation55:00 - ConclusionJerry Stackhouse’ Bio:Website: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_StackhouseTwitter: https://twitter.com/jerrystackhouseBasketball ImmersionWebsite: http://basketballimmersion.com/Twitter: https://twitter.com/bballimmersion?lang=enYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/basketballimmersionFacebook: https://facebook.com/basketballimmersionBetOnline Website:Website: www.betonline.agBest in the West Video SeriesBest in the West Website: http://bestinthewestclinic.com/

In this podcast we have Rogers State University Men Soccer's Head Coach Derek Larkin who just finished his 13th season after creating the program in 2007. Larkin has established a winning tradition on the Hill, with an overall record of 84-43-8 (39-26-4) with the Men. He just won the GAC/MIAA Conference Championship in 2019. Larkin, who also started the women's soccer program in 2007 and coached them to an 84-43-8 record over the program's first seven seasons, enters the 2019 season just two wins shy of 200 combined for the Hillcats, leading RSU to a 198-127-32 (.599 win percentage) record in his time on College Hill. During his 12 seasons with the men's soccer program, Larkin has amassed 10 seasons of .500 or better, including four straight heading into 2019. He also has guided the Hillcats to seven 10+ win seasons. Larkin became the first coach at RSU to guide their program to postseason play after moving to the NCAA Division II in 2016 and has guided the Hillcats to several major victories. In 2018, the Hillcats knocked off perennial power Rockhurst with a 2-0 victory at Soldier Field. In 2017, Larkin earned his 100th career win for the men's soccer program at RSU with a 1-0 win over national power Fort Hays State. In 2016, the Hillcats knocked off No. 3 St. Edward's. During his 12 years with Rogers State, Larkin has coached and guided a pair of All-Americans, five Conference Players of the Year (two Players, two Goalkeepers and one Newcomer), 20 All-Region/District selections and 57 All-Conference selections. His athletes have also succeeded on the academic side, as he has coached six Academic All-Americans, 31 Academic All-Region/District and Scholar-Athlete honorees and had two teams earn an Academic Team distinction. Both the RSU men and women enjoyed double-digit win totals in each of their first five seasons and qualified for the Sooner Athletic Conference postseason tournament in each of the six seasons it was a member. Larkin led both of his first-year programs to a second-place finish in the SAC and a spot in the Region VI Tournament in 2007, reaching the postseason with both squads again in 2008, 2009, and 2010. He spurred the Hillcat women to the SAC Tournament Championship during their inaugural season and was named 2007 SAC Women’s Soccer Coach of the Year for his efforts. Larkin joined RSU in January 2007, tasked with being the University’s first head soccer coach. Before coming to the Hill, Larkin enjoyed success as the head boy’s soccer coach at Bishop Kelley High School from 2004-06. He led the Comets to back-to-back state championships in 2005 and 2006. He previously served as the head men's and women's soccer coach at Bacone College from 2002 to 2004. He was named the Red River Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2002 after leading the Lady Warriors to the conference championship. Larkin also worked as both the men's and women's head soccer coach at Missouri Valley College from 1997 to 1999 and at Catoosa High School from 1999 to 2002. He compiled six district championships at Catoosa and was honored as the head coach of the Oklahoma All-State team in 2002. A four-year starter at Missouri Valley College, Larkin was a two-year captain leading the Vikings to two Heart of America Athletic Conference championships. He was twice named first-team all-conference and second-team all-region. He currently serves as a boy’s coach for the Northeast Oklahoma Futbol Club and is the former director of coaching for the Oklahoma Revolution Soccer Club and girl’s head coach for the Tulsa Nationals Soccer Club. He has collected four Directors Cup Oklahoma State Championships in his coaching career. Larkin and his wife Christy have two boys, Zach and Adam, and reside in Owasso.

“My doctors didn't think I could walk.” Krystal Rivers was born with multiple birth defects including tethered cord syndrome, and has pushed through her life to become one of the top performing volleyball players in the country. Rivers describes her story as one of a pure “keep going,” mindset. No one thought she would be able to walk normally, let along play sports. “My doctors always told me, ‘Do what you can,” and to me, that meant to do everything.” In 10th grade, Rivers underwent a urostomy which forced her to wear an artificial bladder on her side. Her surgery and diagnosis helped her miss the first 2 years of high school volleyball tryouts. Her junior year however, she was determined to learn. Knowing she didn't have the resources for outside help, Krystal taught herself the best she could simply by hitting a ball against a wall every day. This self-taught athlete would come in 2nd in the country in kills in the 2016 NCAA volleyball season by never letting her circumstances get the best of her. “It's about taking your destiny into your own hands and trying to control it as best as possible.” Rivers received a full academic scholarship to the University of Alabama where she would walk on to the volleyball program knowing she was going to do the best she could to help the team, no matter what position that was in. After red-shirting her freshmen year, Rivers would find out in the beginning of the 2014 spring season that she had cancer; Hodgkin lymphoma stage 3. For the next 6 months, the stud athlete would undergo weekly chemo treatment in addition to college volleyball practices, workouts, and a full class load. Her mindset was simply, “I can and I will.” “You're going to have obstacles in life, everybody is, whether they're small or large there are going to be obstacles. It's about you facing them head on and saying, ‘Okay, what's on the other side of this and how do I get there.'” On top of physical obstacles, Rivers also struggled with performance anxiety. The game was getting bigger than her and she was starting to feel everything going the wrong way. Krystal quickly realized that like everything else in her life, she could overcome this obstacle as hard as she overcame everything else. We hope you enjoy this podcast as much as we enjoyed recording it. Let this episode be a source of motivation to those who think they are too down to get back up.
