Send us a textThe worlds of baseball and bourbon collide as Mike and Tony taste the limited-edition Remus Babe Ruth Reserve, a premium offering that blends America's pastime with craft distilling. This special release captures both the spirit of the Great Bambino and MGP's renowned high-rye expertise in a bottle that baseball fans and whiskey enthusiasts alike will appreciate. What happens when one of baseball's greatest legends partners with a respected bourbon producer? The result is a meticulously crafted 111-proof bourbon that blends three different high-rye mash bills from 2016, 2017, and 2018. Each of the 10,624 bottles (one for each of Babe Ruth's career plate appearances) features a QR code revealing what happened during Ruth's corresponding at-bat—a level of attention to detail that elevates this beyond typical celebrity spirits. The tasting reveals characteristic MGP nutty notes complemented by cinnamon, spice, and subtle fruit undertones. Despite initial skepticism about the $150 price point, they are pleasantly surprised by the quality. The conversation expands into broader trends in the bourbon industry, where countless new bottles and celebrity collaborations leave consumers wondering which releases prioritize quality over marketing.Throughout the episode, Mike and Tony delve into the details that make this release special—from the baseball bat-shaped cork to the diamond-themed packaging—while honestly discussing whether the premium price over standard Remus offerings is justified by the collectible nature or the liquid inside. For baseball historians, Yankees fans, or anyone interested in the intersection of American cultural icons and craft spirits, this episode offers valuable insights into a unique bourbon experience.Curious about how celebrity collaborations are changing the whiskey landscape? Want to know if limited editions like this are worth the investment? Listen now and discover whether the Remus Babe Ruth Reserve hits a home run or strikes out.
What good would a history podcast be without some sports history? Babe Ruth feels like he should be on the Mount Rushmore of sports history. Born in the Pigtown part of Baltimore, he defied the odds to become the most well-known baseball player of all time. He dazzled fans on the field, on the silver screen, and on every sports page in the country. His trade from the Red Sox also cursed the organization for the next 86 years. As a Yankee he was a pivotal part of many World Series contenders. He was the anchor of the famed Murderers Row batting line up. For all his success on the field, his life in the clubhouse and outside the stadium was more flawed than most people know. Join us as we get Historically High on Babe Ruth.Support the show

The Bandwagon begins reviewing a different kind of show for the next few weeks. As all the guys are massive sports fans, they decided to begin watching, and reviewing, the new series on Amazon Prime, Game 7. The first Episode of the series covered one of the all-time great Game 7s, featuring one of the greatest rivalries in all of sports, the Boston Red Sox vs. the New York Yankees. In 2003, the two rivals played an epic series that could only be resolved by one of the most improbable comebacks in Game 7 history. The guys offer their own personal perspectives on that game here on this Episode. The Trailer Park got some late additions from D23 Brazil with new trailers for Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts*, along with a trailer for a possible new classic in Dear Santa. There was also news coming from D23 Brazil including the MCU possibly shifting its focus towards the X-Men, a new release schedule/ protocol for the MCU, and rumors abound of where Star Wars might be heading...and why the guys are less than enthused.@AttitudeAgg@WrestlngRealist@itsReyCash@PCTunney@itsmedpp@ViolentAesop@TheMindlessPod@therealcplatt@ChairshotMedia@BandwagonNerdsAbout Bandwagon NerdsJoin Patrick O'Dowd, David Ungar, PC Tunney, Rey Cash, and DPP as they keep everyone up on all things nerd, and maybe add some new nerds along the way. "As I hit the ball, every muscle in my system, every sense I had, told me that I had never hit a better one . . . I didn't have to look. But I did. That ball . . . hit . . . exactly the spot I had pointed to." This is the story of the most American sport: baseball. Americans have been playing ball for a good long while now—even General Washington enjoyed an occasional game of catch—but baseball as we know it only emerged around the 1850s. That's also about the time when people started forming leagues: the National League, the American League, the Federal League, yada yada, you get the picture. There are quite a few, and they're mostly the same, except for the Negro League, headed by Andrew “Rube” Foster (pitcher and president extraordinaire). Professional baseball remains segregated until Jackie Robinson breaks the color line in the late 1940s. But let's not get ahead of ourselves! Baseball evolves from its colonial beginnings to become an entertainment staple by the early twentieth century. In the 1920s, the good name of the game has just been sullied by the 1919 World Series scandal, but baseball's popularity hasn't taken a serious hit. This era boasts a panoply of players, and people can't seem to stay away from the stands. You see, George Herman "Babe" Ruth has just been traded to the New York Yankees, and he's always playing to win. ____ Connect with us on HTDSpodcast.com and go deep into episode bibliographies and book recommendations join discussions in our Facebook community get news and discounts from The HTDS Gazette come see a live show get HTDS merch or become an HTDS premium member for bonus episodes and other perks. (00:00-20:24) Bob Cooney is joined by Bill Colarulo. JT Realmuto's injury is the main headline today, the Jose Alvarado haters are silenced, and Joey Chestnut banned from the hotdog eating contest. (20:38-33:54) More reaction to JT's injury. Bob's inside medical source confirms the 4-6 week timeline. The show discusses what to do at the catcher position in the meantime. (34:08-43:24) Is this Nick Sirianni/Jalen Hurts thing getting blown out of proportion? Bob says it is. What's the balance between adding at the deadline & keeping the great culture for the Phillies? (43:24-1:02:44) The show turns to the Eagles and pits them against the Cowboys. The Eagles have advantages in nearly every category. Bob says this is a career defining game for Jalen Hurts. (1:02:59-1:15:48)Back to the Phillies, with such a comfortable lead the Phillies don't need to panic about catcher. It's June, which has Ray calling Kyle Schwarber better than the Great Bambino. (1:15:54-1:25:03) Haason Reddick is still not showing up for Jets mini-camp. Does Howie deserve a pat on the back, or is it still a bad move? (1:25:09-1:45:16) More Phillies talk, does the JT Realmuto injury have you worried past this season? Could Trea Turner's return be detrimental to another Phillies' starter? Bob explains. (1:45:31-2:00:02) What player would you want to see play in today's era? Nothing's worse than NSFW scenes coming on an airplane movie! (2:00:08-2:06:40) Bill tries to prepare fans for a slow start for the Eagles. (2:06:47-2:26:32) Matt Breen of the Philadelphia Inquirer joins the show. Breen reacts to JT Realmuto's injury, assesses Garrett Stubbs as a replacement, and gives his input on Sirianni/Hurts relationship. (2:26:46-2:39:38) Larry Bird would crush in this era, would Shaq? (2:39:45-2:46:28) The show re-lives some all time greats, specifically the Great One.

When and if it stops snowing in Utah....it will soon be Mosquito Season! Call Mosquito Hunters now to get their early bird pre-season special rates. They also do group rates for cul-de-sacs and neighborhoods who opt in as a group to protect their area from Mosquitos. In this episode Rich talks about their business, lessons learned and plans for the future. Here's their bio from their business website: https://mosquitohunters.com/layton-ut/about-us/ "We are Rich and Hilary Howes and if we are not occupied with combatting Public Enemy #1, the dreaded mosquito, we are proud parents of our two children and two English bulldogs, Ozzy and Titus. When not waging a war on the annoying “summer fun suckers,” you can find us riding our bikes, usually with our young daughter in her “chariot” trailer (taking a nap while mom or dad does all the work), or playing with our furry-children. Heralding from the Ogden-area, Rich grew up “on the turf.” Whether it was out-running line referees in football, envisioning himself as the next “Great Bambino,” or driving a golf ball over four hundred yards (yes, that happened once), nothing could keep him from enjoying the great outdoors (except a few million mosquito bites, that is). Hilary was born and raised in the neighboring state of Idaho where the wind always blew, and the mosquitos were prevalent. Growing tiresome of both, she moved to Utah to study Accounting at Utah State and found the wind and mosquitos followed her like a bad shadow. Recently moving from Layton, where we resided for twelve years, to Kaysville, we quickly realized that mosquitos were as certain as death and taxes, and we have the power to at least fight one of them. Combining Rich's organizational planning and scheduling expertise and Hilary's strange fascination with data and numbers, we started Mosquito Hunters of Layton-Kaysville-Farmington, servicing most of the Davis County area. Our mosquito, flea, and tick control services will allow families to Take Back Their Yard with our EPA registered family and pet friendly products. Our goal is to build extraordinary relationships with our customers by providing the Happiness Promise. If our customers are not happy with our treatments within 21 days of post-treatment, we will re-treat for free. No questions asked."

Last year was a record-breaking year in terms of wildfire. So far, 2021 is on track to break that record and officials say climate change is a huge factor. In addition, San Diego has an ambitious climate change plan but an audit shows the city isn't doing a good job at tracking its progress. Plus, as climate change heats up cities, a new study finds that low-income and neighborhoods with higher Black, Hispanic and Asian populations experience significantly more summer heat. Also, veteran homelessness has many causes and few solutions, but Kansas City is hoping tiny homes might be one solution. And, childhood obesity is an epidemic in this country and Latinx children are affected the most. A new study suggests childhood trauma might be to blame. Finally, the All-Star Game is happening Tuesday and two-way player Shohei Ohtani is being compared to Babe Ruth — some even going as far as saying he's better than the Great Bambino himself.
Shawn looks at the injured players returning from last year. The lack of depth in tight end group concerns him; he believes Albert Okwuegbunam could start the season on the PUP list. Shawn thinks that Aaron Rodgers' dispute with the Packers will extend into the season. He thinks that the Packers will eventually have to make the move the longer Aaron Rodgers holds out in order to secure the future of the team. In light of the Rockies very bad 9th inning, Shawn discusses the Bard's performance, the bullpen, and the Rockies' historically poor road winning percentage. In the Time Machine, The Great Bambino christens the first All Star Game with its first homer, the Yankees honor the life of a legend, a female sports icon gets the three-peat at Wimbledon, and the teams from The Can fall under new management. Schindler also gives the stats that give Babe Ruth a strong case of being truly one of the best, if not the best, baseball player to ever set foot on the diamond.

Finally, we’ll get into what you should do should you be trapped in an elevator. Hopefully this episode isn’t a let down. And then, “The Sultan of Swat”, “The King of Crash”, “The Great Bambino”. Yes, we’re talking about Yankee slugger and American hero, Babe Ruth. Why was his name Babe? It’s actually George. How did he get all those nicknames? Did he actually call his shot to center field in the 1932 World Series? Well folks, when the legend becomes fact, print the legend. Stick around to hear all about this American icon on Tell Me What You Know.
What can be said about baseball legend Babe Ruth that hasn’t already been said? Slacks tests the waters with a new tattoo idea, then waxes rhapsodic about New York City, or -- as he calls it -- "The Great Bambino". The co-hosts chime in on topics as diverse as deep fakes, soft sciences, and 1999's "Runaway Bride". Rounding out the episode: a few dispatches from the land of Sobriety.
The Sultan of Swat, The King of Crash, The Colossus of Clout, THE GREAT BAMBINO! These are just a few of the nicknames of George Herman “Babe” Ruth. The babe terrorized the MLB for 22 seasons, accumulating 714 home runs, 2214 RBI’s, and a lifetime .342 batting average. If those numbers are too old school for you, how does 182 Wins Above Replacement and a career 1.164 OPS sound? But the Babe is remembered almost as much for his exploits off the field as his performance on it.
It's curse week! This week, Kayla discusses the supposed hauntings and curses of Lake Lanier in Georgia. Allyson breaks down the superstition of baseball curses, highlighting three of the most infamous: the Boston Red Sox's Curse of the Great Bambino, the Chicago Cubs' Curse of the Billy Goat, and the Hanshin Tigers' Curse of the Colonel.
The Sultan of Swat. The Colossus of Clout. The King of Crash. The Great Bambino. Babe Ruth died over 70 years ago, but his legend still lives on in big league stadiums and little league fields across America. While we know a lot about Ruth's baseball career, little was known about his early life and how it shaped him to become America's first superstar athlete and celebrity. My guest today sought to remedy that in her recently published biography: The Big Fella: Babe Ruth and the World He Created. Her name is Jane Leavy, and she's a former sports journalist and the author of two other biographies of baseball greats. We begin our conversation discussing Ruth's sad and difficult childhood in a Baltimore boarding school and how he learned to play baseball from the Xaverian brothers who ran it. We then shift to how Ruth's hunger for affirmation helped him become the country's first real celebrity, and how his baseball career coincided with the burgeoning fields of public relations and technology, ushering in a new era in sports writing, endorsements, and entertainment. We end our conversation discussing Ruth's legacy in the world, and business, of professional sports. Get the show notes at aom.is/ruth.
(This program was originally broadcast on January 29, 2019)Today, a conversation about one of the most fascinating figures, not only in baseball history, but in American history. George Herman ----Babe---- Ruth, Jr. was born and raised in Baltimore, graduated from the school of hard knocks, and evolved into the most famous man in America, whose every swing of the bat seemed to be a matter of national interest, and whose every exploit off the field was a source of endless fascination for Depression-era fans. His influence and importance to the game is unquestioned, and because the timing of his rise to prominence coincided with an expansion of media from print to broadcast, his influence in the public sphere, well outside the diamond, was unprecedented. In her fascinating and granular look at the life of Babe Ruth, Jane Leavy -- the best-selling author of The Last Boy and Sandy Koufax -- observes, “At some point in the trajectory of fame, real life becomes apocryphal. Home runs travel in perpetuity, drafting on perpetually willing suspension of disbelief. The temporal facts of biography no longer matter because everyone knows a person who can hit 60 home runs will live forever.” Babe Ruth did hit 60 home runs in the 1927 season, and we’ve been talking about him ever since. Jane Leavy asserts that our current notion of what it means to be a celebrity, what it means to be famous, were inexorably shaped by the life and media circus that was ----the Great Bambino.---- Her book is called The Big Fella: Babe Ruth and the World He Created.Jane Leavy joins Tom today in Studio A.Their conversation was live-streamed on WYPR's Facebook page, and you can watch the video here.

New York! What a wonderful city! The city that never sleeps, the city that brought us Broadway, The Great Bambino, way to many Dick Clark New Year's shows, apparently pizza, and now THIS?! That's right we watch VH1's "I Love New York" which IS NOT a misappropriated Travel Channel show but actually a show about... I... I actually don't know who she is... a woman famous for.... I ... I actually have no idea why she's even famous... well a woman looking for love in all the wrong... but, like... is she really? I mean, it all seems kind of staged.... but then isn't all reality TV? Well at least you can watch along as we take an in depth look at how gender roles are reversed in pop culture dating, the portrayal of African American culture in television, and... seriously who am I kidding, this is the exact same show as Rock of Love but with different people doing slightly different things. Did you listen to Rock of Love last week? Same show, only we get a little bit crazier, the jokes are a little bit zanier, the whole world is a little more koo koo bananas, and the resident studio dog throws up in the corner. I won't say we reinvented the wheel with this one, but we do get pretty ridiculous as per our sexy sexy voices. Tune in each Monday as we choose a new show and make more wildly inaccurate assumptions. Okay byeeeeee.
Don't be an L7 weenie! Head back to the summer of '62 with us so that we can play some ball, talk about The Great Bambino, perv some dishes, roast some s'mores, and face off against The Beast. The Sandlot's idealistic and sentimental tone made all of us nostalgic for an era we didn't even grow up in (and that we all agree probably didn't actually exist). But that's sort of it's charm - it does a spectacular job of capturing the fun and innocence of childhood. We discuss what makes the film work despite its lack of a traditional narrative, have some disagreements over how effective the climax is, and then wrap things up with a round of Who Would You Be and Who Would You F? Also... I know there have been issues with the audio quality lately. We're working really hard to get all of that sorted out. iTunes / Stitcher / RSS / Facebook / Twitter / Instagram About The Show
