Connor De Phillippi raced a BMW M4 for Rahal Letterman Lanigan in the GTD Pro category in 2022. This was the first year for that class as he had been competing in the IMSA GTLM category before that class was phased out. In this interview taken on the Thursday before the 2022 Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, he talks about his early open-wheel career versus GT racing, how GTD differs from GTLM and his preparation for the race weekend. After a penalty in qualifying relegated his team to start last, De Phillippi carved his way through the field to the lead before another penalty during a pit stop dropped them down the order again. De Phillipi is a talented driver who's always looking forward to improving his craft and going after wins. Enjoy! NOTE: De Phillippi has been chosen as one of the drivers to hit the track in 2023 in the all-new BMW GTP car. After some testing towards the end of 2022, the new season kicks off with the 24hrs of Daytona on January 28-29, 2023. By Larry Mason Copyright © 2022 Larry Mason

Phil and Josh return for Episode 53 of the GSP to preview the 2021 Formula 1 World Championship analyzing each team based on recent form and winter testing. Will Lewis Hamilton become an 8-time World Driver's Champion while getting to the 100/100 mark? Can Max Verstappen finally give LH44 a battle he hasn't had since Rosberg and the nonsense of 2016? Can McLaren get back to their winning ways with The Honey Badger and Lando? Every team gets their time...even PutinHaas. Afterwards, the guys go into the Atlanta weekend which saw YRB, Allgaier and KyBu win in Cup/XFinity/Trucks. The biggest story was NOWAH (Maria Menounos voice) and his usual nonsense against Daniel Hemric which saw elbows up do a Matrix move and nail NOWAH in the face. Phil and Josh go into detail that won't be heard on other pods. After cooling down, they discuss the 12 Hours of Sebring with The French Connection winning overall along with an upset in GTLM but plenty of Porsche power at one of their great stomping grounds. The Roundup went over one of those overall winners and his new major sponsor in IndyCar along with Indy 500 entry list talk plus MotoGP preview after Marc Marquez was ruled out for Qatar.
After three successful seasons with a Ferrari in the GTD PRO-AM category, including two Petit Le Mans wins, Cooper and his family began to assess options for 2021. Rumours soon circulated that Cooper and Weathertech Racing would step up to the pro dominated GTLM category for 2021. Although privateer teams can enter GTLM, the category has essentially been an exclusive arena for manufacturer teams and their superstar drivers. Such are the prohibitive costs involved in running complex GTLM machines. Logic may suggest that a privateer team would be wise to remain in the PRO-AM based GTD category. However, the MacNeil family follow their own path. Particularly with their Weathertech brand. Typically, significantly cheaper manufacturing costs force companies to look abroad for production. Not Weathertech. Since launching the auto accessories firm in 1989, David MacNeil has driven home an ethos of design and manufacture in the United States. Weathertech's Superbowl adverts normally centre around this very message. When rumours of Weathertech's alleged GTLM plan intensified, many believed the alliance with Ferrari would continue. After all, Cooper MacNeil had accumulated significant mileage in various iterations of Ferrari's 488. As the world sleepwalked back to work after the festive break, Weathertech Racing confirmed their GTLM entry for 2021. However, the big shock was the choice of machine. Porsche, not Ferrari, would take this ambitious privateer effort into the GTLM lion's den. Incredibly, the MacNeil's impressive GTLM ambitions failed to stimulate interest or support at Maranello. Once word reached Weissach that the incredible 911 RSR-19 could continue running in North America, the unparralled Porsche customer racing operation leapt into action. Leading Porsche customer outfit, Proton Competition, were also enlisted to help with operations at the track. Delighted to find a privateer willing to run the exotic RSR, Porsche deployed their own engineers and a roster of works drivers to assist the Weathertech effort. However, this is very much ‘the Porsche way'. When a privateer team with sufficient credentials steps up, Porsche will meet them halfway. Brumos Racing, Martini International Racing Team, Dyson Racing and many more have all received enthusiastic assistance from Weissach in pursuit of Porsche's success. In fact, Porsche's affiliation with customer racing teams has confirmed the Stuttgart brand's superiority across endurance racing's triple crown of Le Mans, Daytona and Sebring.

I'm a television producer. I came up in the world of Motorsports working for NASCAR and I was with them for about five years, three seasons on the road with the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship. I've got two sports Emmy wins for the 100,000 cameras documentary series. I like to cook I'm pretty good at barbecue. You know, maybe that's what you think is most interesting because you're not interested at all at cars, which would be ironic. 0:46 I went to the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2018. I went to rennsport with Porsche, Porsche and rennsport with Michelin and then also went to the mall with Michelin. And then I did a year of a show called THE TORQUE SHOW with Justin Bell and Tommy Kendall. 1:40 the number one thing right now is the documentary that we just put out. I produced my first feature length documentary last year, it was about cars and car culture, It's called BEST IN CLASS, the making of a concour d'Elegance. And it's available on any digital video or content rental platform, it's available for rent, I think it's 10 to buy it. It's a great story. 3:33 the audrain Automobile Museum in Newport, Rhode Island. I mean, there I worked for a chef in Orlando, that my paycheck stopped cashing. 14:44 Valencia Community College had an incredible film program, I had to make a reel to present as part of my application. 19:04 I had taken a job shooting nightclubs, I was shooting like family photos. I was shooting wedding videos, I stumbled upon the opportunity to do West Walker's wedding video and Aspen which was a felt like a really big deal at the time. And I mean, it's a celebrity thing, whatever it was, but it was still a wedding video. 26:09 You know, you've honored and mentioned your dad and mom a number of times in this video, which just makes me love you more. 26:57 I remember Ferrari and Range Rover and Land Rover and then Bentley you had that big release party with the Continental GT. So you were very much in the luxury and sports car game. What I do remember specifically is maybe like once a month or so here comes a Ferrari 360 Modena and Jeff's like, hey, let's go for a ride. 28:44 my mom and I came over to the dealership and you took us for a ride on the the Range Rover proving ground. 30:34 What are these Porsches? Oh, those are GT3 cup cars.... 31:06I Brett: "...I watch Formula One IndyCar NASCAR lower series, NASCAR dirt track modifieds. I go to my local short track here in Tampa, I really don't think that there's anything that beats the competition of sports car racing. How do people not want to watch this? it's gonna go out and bang doors with a Porsche 911 RSR. 33:42 Jeff talks about NASCAR with the actual cars that you drove on Monday. 35:08 Jeff talks about selling "used" Ferraris into the Tampa Bay market that may have had an impact on Ferrari opening a dealrership there. 38:49 Brett: "...did a lot of work with Michelin... went to the Goodwood Festival of Speed... went to Rennsport with...
