Julia Gumpert, who appeared on Ep. 122 joins Mark and Blair Speed (Ep. 154) to discuss all things to do with endurance and love. To break the ice Julia talks about living in the south and seeking self-image in the external, specifically ancestry, her history and connection with land, and the stubbornness required to work it. She and Blair discuss the unique strength of women, love at first sight, marriage, being a military spouse, the languages of love, miscarriage and walking with grief. Verändern will auch Roland Gumpert, und zwar die Art und Weise, wie Autos angetrieben werden. Neben den vielen aktuell diskutierten Optionen schickt Gumpert die Methanol-Brennstoffzelle ins Rennen. Wir diskutieren mal durch, was es dazu zu wissen gibt, nachdem uns einige Hörer-Fragen zu diesem Thema erreicht haben.  Audi schaut derweil das Thema „Ladeweile“ genauer an. Brittney Pachucki earned a BioMedical Engineering Degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and is a pharmaceutical device engineer atMedImmune. [0:50] Why Brittney took the path of Bio-Materials and Tissue Engineering – she thought she was going into pre-med and be a doctor – but she realized she liked the hand on. She liked the fact that Biomedical was diverse. Her advanced classes later in college were Tissue Engineering and Bio-Materials and some pre-med classes. [3:38] Spinach Leaf heart project growing heart cells. [5:05] Area of Expertise – she figured out that to really go into Tissue engineering you really need a masters or PHD. But via her internships she got into Medical Devices and Drug Delivery Systems. [6:25] What has Brittaney fired up is where extended drug delivery is headed especially for folks that need to have an injection every day. [7:10] Ah-ha she turned into success – Engineering school is hard and in college she got her first “C” and did not know how to handle it and a little distraught and simply moved and her ah-ha was that sometimes things don’t go as planned and that is currently fine. [9:40] Getting through College – go to class, do the work, ask for help – that was her school motto. [11:30] Attributes you may need when moving into your career – need to learn how to get out of your comfort zone. We’re still going to have the content you’ve come to expect — just more of it and a better version. We’ll always focus locally on jiujitsu and other fighting arts in the Carolinas and beyond, but now we’re going to be bringing in more big, national guests, especially guests with historical significance. (We already have some interviews recorded that I can’t wait to share with you). We’re also going to produce more regular bonus content to go along with the podcast — things like videos and comics. All of this will be housed at the (currently under construction) dirtywhitebelt.com. We hope to launch the website on Jan. 1, to start next year. And we had so much fun at the ConcussionCast Carnival last year, we hope to do another live event in 2017! In the meantime, we’re going to slowly transition everything under the Dirty White Belt label. What does this mean for you, the listener and supporter? Not much, I don’t think. Now begins the process of transitioning to the new name on iTunes, Stitcher, Soundcloud, and our various social media channels. If you already subscribe to us in one or more of those places, you shouldn’t need to do anything else — and if you don’t subscribe already, please do. And be aware that when you see something from “Dirty White Belt,” that’s us. Our goals remain the same: to shine a light on all the fantastic things happening in our local scene, and to talk to the great people making them happen; to bring you the best possible interviews with both local folks and legends of the fighting arts; and to spread the word about jiujitsu to everyone who needs to hear it.
