China ist der mit Abstand größte Automarkt der Welt, hier werden mehr als doppelt so viele Fahrzeuge verkauft wie in Europa. Und Volkswagen war jahrelang der unangefochtene Platzhirsch im Reich der Mitte. Mit der Elektro-Wende jedoch ist die Konkurrenz aus China davon gerast. Insbesondere BYD ist technologisch weiter, preislich günstiger und auch deutlich besser beim Infotainment-System. Während sich einige japanische und koreanische Autobauer de facto vom chinesischen Markt zurückziehen, geht VW den entgegengesetzten Weg – und setzt fast alles auf die China-Karte. Mercedes owners in the U.S. will soon add a new luxury to their already luxurious vehicles: ChatGPT.

Thema heute:   Das Auto bezahlt an der Tankstelle: PACE präsentiert PACE Drive für Apple CarPlay und Android Auto Mit innovativen Features, wie der Bezahlung per Smartphone und sogar per Smartwatch vom Handgelenk aus, ermöglicht PACE Drive Nutzern das mobile Bezahlen direkt an der Zapfsäule. Doch bisher fehlte noch ein großer Meilenstein: Das Bezahlen über das Infotainment-System des Autos, ganz bequem vom Fahrersitz aus.Nach der Ankündigung von PACE im Juli wird diese Vision nun Realität: Dank der neuen Möglichkeiten, die Google und Apple in den neuesten Versionen ihrer Plattformen zur Verfügung stellen, ist PACE Drive die erste App in Europa, die das In-Car-Payment über CarPlay und Android Auto anbietet.Möglich ist das nicht etwa nur für ein bestimmtes Modell, sondern mit allen Autos, die CarPlay oder Android Auto unterstützen. Laut Apple wird allein CarPlay schon in über 98% der verfügbaren Autos in den Vereinigten Staaten unterstützt, insgesamt sind es mehr als 600 Modelle weltweit. Damit kann die neue Funktion der PACE Drive App von einer Vielzahl von Autofahrerinnen und Autofahrern bereits jetzt genutzt werden. Für alle, die dabei von einem komplizierten Einrichtungsprozess ausgehen, gibt es gute Neuigkeiten: Smartphone auf iOS 16 bzw. mindestens Android 6 aktualisieren, PACE Drive auf dem Smartphone updaten, fertig. Die App steht auf dem Auto-Display ganz automatisch zur Verfügung, ohne, dass dafür eine zusätzliche Installation nötig ist. Die PACE ID, die auf dem Smartphone eingeloggt ist, funktioniert ganz von selbst auch via CarPlay oder Android Auto, die Bezahlung wird über die bereits hinterlegten Zahlungsmethoden abgewickelt. Zum Start kann mit giropay und Kreditkarte bezahlt werden.Öffnet man PACE Drive im Auto, läuft der Prozess gewohnt unkompliziert ab: Die App zeigt Tankstellen in der Nähe, die das mobile Bezahlen unterstützen. Nach der Navigation zur gewünschten Station startet der Zahlprozess: An der Tankstelle angekommen, kann der Tankvorgang auf dem Bildschirm des Fahrzeugs gestartet werden. Daraufhin wählt man die Zapfsäule aus, an der man steht. Es wird ganz einfach wie gewohnt getankt. Zahlungsmethode auswählen, Zahlung bestätigen, weiterfahren. Das war's schon! Auch der Umgang mit Tankbelegen wird so vereinfacht: Der digitale Beleg wird Nutzern nach dem Tankvorgang per E-Mail zugeschickt, und kann zudem zusammen mit den Belegen aller bisherigen Tankvorgänge in der App auf dem Smartphone eingesehen werden. Als klein kann man ihn nicht gerade bezeichnen, den Highlander. Wobei Sie natürlich richtig vermuten, dass wir von einem Auto sprechen. Dem Toyota Highlander. Aber zu diesem Namen gibt es auch jede Menge Assoziationen, die sich geradezu aufdrängen!Darum geht es diesmal!Es ist das Hochland von Schottland und gleichzeitig das nordwestlichste Gebiet Schottlands und trägt den Namen „Die Highlands!“  Weltberühmt wurden sie durch ihre Clans, die Whisky-Produktion und Loch Ness. Und im Jahr 1986 kam der Film „Highlander – Es kann nur einen geben“ in die Kinos. Der Highlander aus dem Film gehörte zum Clan der MacLeod, der Highlander, von dem WIR heute sprechen, gehört zum Toyota Clan! Das Outfit!Optisch passt der Toyota Highlander perfekt ins schottische Hochland, der Wagen ist ein groß gewachsener SUV der gehobenen Mittelklasse mit Platz für bis zu sieben Passagiere. In den USA ist er schon seit mehreren Generationen eine feste Größe, bei uns ist er im Frühjahr 2021 angekommen. Power und Drive!    Dass der Toyota Highlander mit einem Hybridantrieb geliefert wird, konnte man erwarten, schließlich ist Toyota Hybrid-Pionier! Eine Kombination aus einem 2,5-Liter-Benziner und je einem Elektromotor an Vorder- und Hinterachse entwickelt eine Systemleistung von 179 kW/248 PS. 140 kW (190 PS) davon liefert der 2,5-l-Benziner, dazu steuert der Elektromotor vorne 134 kW (182 PS) bei, der Elektromotor hinten 40 kW (54 PS). Der Normverbrauch liegt bei 5,1 bis 5,5 Litern je 100 Kilometer, was CO2-Emissionen von 116 bis 124 g/km entspricht. Das stufenlose Automatikgetriebe und ein intelligenter Allradantrieb erhöhen Fahrkomfort und Fahrsicherheit. Die Innenausstattung!Schon die Business Edition als Einstiegsversion wartet mit vielen Annehmlichkeiten auf: Neben beheizbaren und elektrisch verstellbaren Vordersitzen gehören unter anderem das beheizbare Lederlenkrad, Parabol-LED-Scheinwerfer mit Fernlichtautomatik, eine Rückfahrkamera, ein Infotainment-System mit Acht-Zoll-Display und Smartphone-Integration per Apple CarPlay und Android Auto sowie eine kabellose Ladeschale für Smartphones zur Serienausstattung. Wer ihn als Lückenbüßer bezeichnen würde, täte ihm Unrecht. Zwar soll der Eclipse Cross bei Mitsubishi die Lücke zwischen dem Kompakt-SUV ASX und dem Familien-SUV Outlander schließen, dennoch ist er ein eigenständiges Fahrzeug mit Emotionalität, Individualität und Fahrspaß. Wir haben ihn mal näher angeschaut!Darum geht es diesmal!Wer sich bei Mitsubishi auskennt, der weiß, dass es mal einen Eclipse gab, der mit dem heutigen Eclipse Cross absolut nichts zu tun hat. Ich habe mal einen Selbstversuch bei Google gemacht und den Begriff Mitsubishi Eclipse eingeben. In der Ergebnisliste oben steht nur der Eclipse Cross, erst nach längerem Scrolen entdeckt man das Coupé aus den 1990er Jahren. Das ist dann eine geringfügige Gemeinsamkeit, denn der Eclipse Cross versteht sich als Coupé-SUV. Und natürlich ist der Familienname identisch! Power und Drive!    Antriebsseitig hat man die Wahl zwischen einem Benziner und einem Diesel, einem Sechs-Gang-Schaltgetriebe, einem CVT- und einem konventionellen Automatikgetriebe und zwischen Front- und Allradantrieb, wobei nicht alles kombinierbar ist. Wir waren mit dem 1,5-Liter-Turbo-Benzinmotor mit 120 kW (163 PS), CVT und Allradantrieb unterwegs. Die „normale“ Automatik ist dem Dieselmotor vorbehalten. Der 1,5-Liter-Turbo beschleunigt den Eclipse Cross in der Kombination mit CVT und Allradantrieb in 9,8 Sekunden auf Tempo 100, die Höchstgeschwindigkeit liegt bei glatten 200 km/h.  Die Innenausstattung!Die Ausstattungslinien herunterzubeten ist leider nicht machbar, aber zumindest ein paar wichtige Dinge kann ich nennen, die alle Eclipse Cross an Bord haben.  Das sind zum Beispiel: Klimaautomatik, Bluetooth®-Audioschnittstelle sowie Freisprecheinrichtung, ein Infotainment-System mit Smartphone-Anbindung, das Android Auto™ und Apple CarPlay unterstützt, oder auch ein Radio  mit DAB+ Empfang. Zudem gibt es einen  7" Touchscreen, eine USB-Audioschnittstelle und vieles mehr.  Für eine Basisausstattung ist das schon mal nicht schlecht, oder? Die Kosten!Wer an einem Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross interessiert ist und diesen auf der Firmenwebseite konfiguriert, kann mit 20.990,00 Euro für den Eclipse Cross Diamant mit 1.5 Turbo-Benziner, 120 kW (163 PS) und 6-Gang-Schaltgetriebe starten. Am anderen Ende der Preisskala findet sich der Eclipse Cross TOP 2.2 Diesel mit 109 kW (148 PS), Automatik und Allradantrieb für aktuell 37,790 Euro. Für unseren Testkandidaten  Eclipse Cross TOP mit  1.5 Turbo-Benziner 120 kW (163 PS), CVT und Allradantrieb verlangt der Händler derzeit 35.590,-- Euro. The modern car has a problem. Over the past decade, automakers have raced to offer their smartphone-addled customers a bonanza of features: navigation, texting, phone calls, satellite radio, Bluetooth, ways to check tire pressure and oil temperature, suspension settings, charging status, and more. Then they try to stick all those things into an interface whose users are usually pretty busy—driving the 2-ton metal boxes that kill nearly 40,000 people in the US every year.

Ab 31. März 2018 müssen laut EU-Verordnung 2015/758 alle neuen, ab diesem Datum typgeprüften Pkw serienmäßig mit einem EU eCall-System ausgerüstet sein. Bei Mercedes-Benz ist dies schon Realität: Bereits 2012 startete der Mercedes-Benz Notruf, und mit der Einführung von Mercedes me im September 2014 sind alle Baureihen serienmäßig damit ausgestattet. Aktuell ist der Notruf in 35 Ländern in Europa verfügbar. Besonders hilfreich bei einem Notfall im Ausland: Kommuniziert wird nicht in der jeweiligen Landessprache, sondern in sehr vielen Ländern in derjenigen Sprache, die der Fahrer im Infotainment-System eingestellt hat.

And the San Francisco based company says they predict you will get the helmet into your hands in July of 2015. What is the hype with this new motorcycle helmet and is it right for you? Do you ride a sports bike, dual sport, or a cruiser? It does make a difference for many. Do you want more technology in your face? Or do you want to detach for a bit and feel the wind in your face? The Skully AR-1 smart helmet has a very small cube screen that sits off to the lower right of the rider's cheek inside the helmet. This cube heads up display screen sits behind the visor and is attached. The helmet has a fisheye style camera in the rear. A rider can glance over and to the right and see what is behind in the heads up display. At the same time the rider really doesn't have to take his eyes off the road in front of him. The idea of the Skully helmet came to him after he was involved on a motorcycle collision when looking down at a GPS unit. He started it all off with a crowd funding campaign, which quickly grew. Marcus Weller will certainly have an immediate market for the AR-1 in the sports bike and dual sport motorcycle arena, however at $1,499 many of those riders won't make that huge financial leap either. They will stick with their current full face or modular helmet. It is going to be hard for the AR-1 to make an impact in the enormous cruiser motorcycle riding market. A majority of bikers on cruisers, especially Harley-Davidson, may not want this helmet nor give it a second look. Bikers like this want an open face helmet, the wind in their face and maybe even a detachment from some technology as they ride into the sunset with no thoughts or stresses. Harley-Davidson already has all this technology and more in the form of the awesome Boom!™ Box Infotainment System (in dash), but not in a helmet heads up display like the AR-1. Harley started outfitting touring models with the system in 2014 and continue to do so. The one thing that Skully definitely has over the the Boom!™ Box is the ability to use and operate the technology without having to take your eyes off the road. And for many that is the only selling point they need. There are more riders these days on cruiser style motorcycles wearing full faced helmets or those of us that wear them in cold or in-climate weather, so there will be some appeal in the cruiser style arena. I personally think the Skully AR-1 smart motorcycle helmet is pretty awesome, but I love technology and I definitely understand the safety benefits. I would love to have a Skully Ar-1 to check out and ride with on my 2014 Harley Davidson Street Glide Special. For those that want to ride free and feel the wind in their face will likely stick to the Boom!™ Box or other built in units with their open face helmets. They may laugh at a smart helmet like the Skully. For a ton of motorcyclists the Skully is just another novelty item that is unobtainable, because of the steep price point. I do however see the prices coming down over time especially when Skully gets a run for their money and other manufacturers start cashing in on the new smart helmet craze.
