He not only excelled academically, but also, showcased his athletic prowess as a college football player. This period of personal growth was crucial in shaping his disciplined approach to his diverse interests, which include Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a discipline in which he won several tournaments, highlights his relentless drive and competitive spirit. Professionally, Carthern initially served as police officer, a role that exposed him to the gritty realities of life and father fueled his desire to depict authentic and raw human emotions in his films. However, the political intricacies and high-stress situation of law enforcement led him to pivot towards a career that allowed him to balance his professional ambitions with his commitment to being a devoted father and husband. This career shift culminated on the founding of FearOwl Films, production company dedicated to creating evocative horror films and animations. Carthern is deeply inspired by renowned director Christopher Nolan, whose intricate storytelling and complex character development resonate in Carthern's own projects. His commitment to horror genre is fueled by a desire to captivate and terrify audiences, all while exploring the deeper fears and anxieties that lie within the human soul. Family remains at the heart of Carthern's motivations. As I look back on the journey from my own upbringing to the tumultuous reality of filming "Save My Son," my heart swells with the knowledge that each episode we create is crafted from the most genuine of places. Today is no exception, and I'm thrilled to share stories and insights that delve into the heart of parenting, from the proud moments to the heartaches that can ripple through a family. Through candid conversations, we celebrate the graduates of Livingstone College and address your most pressing questions about the highs and lows of raising children across varied walks of life.We wade into the emotional waters of how a parent's incarceration can shape a child's life, with personal reflections that may mirror your own or open your eyes to new perspectives. Parenting is not a practice that comes with a rulebook, and as we navigate the uncertain terrain of supporting our children's education, the challenge often grows when educators encounter disruptive or disengaged parents. I share strategies that have proven invaluable in maintaining a nurturing space for every child to thrive, even when the home environment lacks the support we wish every student had.Wrapping up, the conversation pivots to what it means to be an administrator in the midst of family and school dynamics. It's a delicate dance that requires respect, understanding, and a consistent focus on what's best for our students. This episode isn't just about sharing experiences—it's about fostering a community of listeners who are as engaged in the well-being of our children as we are. So join us on this thought-provoking ride, and together, let's keep the conversation moving forward, because it's in these discussions that we find the keys to growth and understanding.

A Rowan County college is mourning the loss of a basketball player who died in a car crash on Monday. Eric Henderson, 21, a Livingstone College sophomore who played on the team's basketball team, died in a crash on Monday in Cumberland County, N.C.  Investigators told WRAL that Henderson's car crossed the center line and hit a pickup truck driven by an off-duty Cumberland County deputy on U.S. Highway 13 just north of Fayetteville. Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash. The involved deputy was injured but is expected to recover. Reverend Byrd is a Long Island, New York native, yet he spent his formative years living in Detroit, Michigan and Gastonia, North Carolina where he completed his Secondary Education. Reverend Byrd entered the ministry in 1998 at age 14 and was licensed as an exhorter by Presiding Elder H.L. Hall at the Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church in Gastonia, NC. Reverend Byrd attended Livingstone College, a historically black college in North Carolina where he served as a Presidential Scholar, President of the Student Government Association, President, NAACP, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and member of the Board of Trustees. Rev. Byrd is a graduate of the State University of New York, at Purchase and a graduate of the Pacific School of Religion of the Graduate Theological Union. He was an undergraduate fellow of the Fund for Theological Education. Reverend Byrd has spent a considerable amount of his life fighting for causes aimed at assisting the plight of downtrodden and marginalized people. He is fondly regarded as the “Picketing Preacher.” He shares the sentiment of the great civil rights clergyman, The Reverend Vernon Johns, “When you see a good fight, get in it!” Reverend Byrd hopes that though his various talks, lectures, addresses, and sermons that dormant levels of consciousness will be awakened as a rose reveling its unfurled glory for the first time before the heavens.  Reverend Byrd currently lives in Hempstead, New York along with his wife, the former Dominique Jackson, alumnae of Mount Holyoke College and a professional actress/model.   Links Rev. Byrd’s Facebook Page Rev. Byrd’s Address: Jackson Memorial AME Zion Church, 60 Peninsula Blvd, Hempstead, NY 11550 Email: alphadubois@hotmail.com

Charlotte View openly welcomes Rev. Dr. Rodney S. Sadler, Jr., who has been hard at work in our Charlotte community bringing the message of the Forward Together/Moral Monday Movement. Along with Rodney we welcome Rev. Kojo Nantambu and Mr. Joel Segal. They are here to be the voice of many other leaders in our community, and to share to all our listeners and followers the reason why they have adopted the mission to spread the word, to encourage the elected officials to do the right thing, and to inspire those in their networks to bear witness in these trying times for North Carolina. Issues the movement is recognized for and the information we will include in this interview are: The origins, mission and vision of the MovementThe challenges, experiences and successesThe most important issues they are fighting for at the moment, like: requesting that Governor McCrory call a special session of the General Assembly and authorize the expansion of Medicaid in our state for some 500,000 people in accordance with the Affordable Care Act.Resumption of Unemployment Benefits in North CarolinaThe upcoming Moral Mondays: on Monday Nov 18th ~ rally/ town hall event to be held at Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC at 5pm. Dec 23 the leaders of the movement will personally deliver the message to Governor McCrory during the holiday season that developing policies that hurt the least, lost, and otherwise left out is wrong.
