Sommerferien er over os!
Our guest is Karlos K. Hill, Associate Professor and Chair of the Clara Luper Department of African and African American Studies at the University of Oklahoma. He joins us to discuss his unsettling and comprehensive new book, "The 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre: A Photographic History." It's a vast gathering of photographs that were taken before, during, and after the massacre, mostly by white photographers. (Some of the images are being published here for the first time.) Comparing these photos to those taken elsewhere in the United States at various lynchings, Hill sets out to document how white civilians, in many cases assisted or condoned by local and state officials, perpetuated a systematic attack on Black Tulsans -- their lives as well as their property. Also on our show today, commentator Mark Darrah shares a surprising, separate-yet-related anecdote from the World War I era of Oklahoma history in his essay titled "Subversive Acts."
On this edition of ST, we remember Roger Mudd, the late political correspondent and probing television news anchor/reporter. Active in American TV journalism for more than three decades, he died last week at age 93. We spoke with Mudd in 2008, and we replay that discussion on today's show. At that time, Mudd's well-regarded autobiography had just been published; that book is titled "The Place to Be: Washington, CBS, and the Glory Days of Television News." Also on our show, commentator Mark Darrah remembers a childhood trip he made with his family to New York City and other points back east. And this memory, in turn, leads Darrah to reflect on the look and feel of much of downtown Tulsa's architecture...as well as the color gray.

It's release week for Cyberpunk 2077 and there's already some controversy from the amount of game-breaking bugs and that the game has imagery that can cause seizures. Sony spent more than twice the amount of marketing money than Microsoft did in the month of November, while Halo Infinite gets pushed out to Fall 2021. Lastly, more trouble at Bioware as Casey Hudson and Mark Darrah leave the company, instilling doubt in the next Dragon Age and Mass Effect games. #videogames #podcast #cyberpunk #halo #bioware

Also, Bioware continues to crumble with more leadership departures, Corey is literally brought to tears with laughter from the Monster Hunter movie backlash in China, and Microsoft pulls yet another bold acquisition with Smash.gg. Oh, and Nintendo is on yet another rampage of shutting down tournament streams, ensuring that they have zero connection with their fan base.
Comentamos hoy qué tal Picross S5 y Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

We were about to wrap-up recording this week's show when some unexpected news broke: Long-time BioWare creative leads Casey Hudson and Mark Darrah have both left the EA-owned dev, and one can't help but wonder if they were pushed out the door. After all, modern BioWare is a far cry from the glory days of yore. We make sure to discuss these notable exits, though they come as a sort of ironic twist, since we had already planned to talk about some high-profile departures from Bend Studio and Japan Studio, too. Plus: PlayStation 5 is doing huge numbers (though we don't exactly know how many have been sold, per se), Square Enix is remastering its PSone JRPG Saga Frontier (though we're unclear why), Aardman Animation and Bandai Namco are getting into bed with one another (continuing Bandai Namco's westward movement), and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Will COVID permanently change the way games are made? What older games could benefit most from haptic feedback? Does DualSense's sticks get the convex/concave mixture just a little bit wrong? What if every time you farted, you also cried? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Um so this was a weird episode. There was a 1920's section. Then like we explicitly said we wouldn't talk about Cyberpunk and then did? Also a talk about whether "Blind Playthrough" is ableist became a talk about multiculturalism and if we should stop saying "Happy Holidays"? I don't know. I played Twin Mirror? MrsL became Queen of France for a bit. Uh, Happy Christmas, Hannukkah, Kwanza, Saturnalia, Candle Nights or just happy #2020isoverparty? Matthew, Rebekah, and James are joined by Mike Williams to discuss the biggest stories of the week. Following the revelation that BioWare general manager Casey Hudson and Dragon Age executive producer Mark Darrah are leaving the studio -- for the second time, in Hudson's case -- we discuss the impact this could have on the company. The conversation expands into exploring the 'wilderness period' BioWare has been in for some years now, and comparing it with other studios that have lost key talent but retained high expectations from fans. We also look at the value of the Dragon Age and Mass Effect IP, the increasing competition the developer faces compared to its heyday, and our hopes for the future of BioWare. As always, you can get more news, insight and analysis at www.gamesindustry.biz.

Forte and SloMo discuss Casey Hudson and Mark Darrah, two veterans at the studio Bioware, leaving the company and where that leaves the games they've been working on and the studio's future. They also discussed copies of Cyberpunk 2077 being released early, a rumored patent for a PlayStation 5 Pro, and whether or not they are willing to be the first to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Near the end of the show they were joined by TheAshenluca.

Join the Bonus Accessory crew every Friday as they dive head first into all things Xbox, Xbox Game Pass, & PC gaming. There once was a point where Bioware was held as one of of gaming’s strongest developers, such as Bungie, Bethesda, Naughty Dog, and more, but flash forward to 2020 and two disappointing launches later, it could only be up from here right? Well, that is until two prominent members of the studio left in Casey Hudson and Mark Darrah. This week, we examine what the future of Bioware truly holds at this point. Where does this newest blow leave two of gaming’s biggest RPG franchises in Mass Effect and Dragon Age, let alone the revamp of 2019’s Anthem? And maybe the biggest elephant in the room: can Bioware live up to their own lineage and release another great title in the future? Also, Fortnite’s newest season has launched, reverberating through different dimensions, and with it, so leaks of potential upcoming skins including Microsoft’s flagship character Master Chief. Does Fortnite have the potential to dethrone Super Smash Bros as gaming’s history museum, with what appears to be a road filled with various franchises being represented, and just how much steam does this game truly have left? Plus, playing PS2 games on your Series X & S, Sea of Thieves gets a battle pass, new games coming to Game Pass and much, much more coming up on the newest episode of the Game Pass Gamecast! Be sure to subscribe and turn on notifications to be the first to listen to new episodes as soon as they drop every Friday!

Big games like the kind they make at Bioware are obviously made by a lot of people but with two high profile industry veterans leaving at the same has has certainly turned a few heads. On this installment of ST, we share a Museum Confidential podcast from our archives that feels especially timely, given what's going these days across the nation and, indeed, all over the world. The podcast episode is from the fall of 2018, when we spoke with Dr. David Pilgrim, founder and curator of the Jim Crow Museum of Racist Memorabilia at Ferris State University in Michigan. This museum was born out of his personal collection, one that began decades ago, when Dr. Pilgrim was growing up in Alabama. Also on our program, commentator Mark Darrah offers "The Next Bus to Nome."
