James has a fun conversation with the East Coast based performer. YawnyBlew is the brainchild of Brooklyn-based songwriter Johny Gonzalez. Debuting in 2020, YawnyBlew was initially a vehicle to showcase music during the global pandemic, but eventually evolved into a vehicle for self discovery, artist expression and industry reform for the Grammy and NME nominated creative. Beginning his professional songwriting career in 2017, Yawny scored his first placement “Light It All Up” for the television series Empire. Produced by Rodney Jerkins, the protest anthem was featured in season 3 and sung by Rumer Willis. He would go on to pen three additional songs that season for Jussie Smollett, a major win for Yawny, a queer boy from The Bronx, NY who dreamed of uplifting others like himself with his music. In the years since, Yawny has been working hard behind the scenes writing for the likes of Keiynan Lonsdale, Dyllon Burnside, Maeta, Cocoa Sarai and Cam Anthony. He would be one of the key creatives behind Thai Pop singer Pyra, who's music has been called “dystopian pop” and features themes of feminism, self discovery, queer exploration and more. Their work together scored several NME Award nominations in 2022. Later that same year he would mentor under Pharrell Williams while crafting songs for TikTok star Marley Bleu. As YawnyBlew, he unapologetically champions body positivity and queerness on songs like “Can't Compete,” and “Curious?” made in collaboration with Brooklyn based multi-hyphenate Tarik “amir.” Carroll. Their collaborative debut DREAMBIIG was released in Oct 2023. Elsewhere on solo songs like “driveslow,” Yawny talks about figuring out life on your own terms while not being afraid to live authentically. Following the launch of his podcast BIIGGER THAN OUR DREAMS in 2022, Yawny has been stepping out more into the public speaking realm, discussing issues that directly affect marginalized creatives and how they show up in the world. His abilities to tell other's stories through his journalist works (The Source Magazine, The Music Times) and podcast endeavors caught the attention of tech giant META, where Yawny serves as a Music Coordinator and communication strategist for Meta's Music. yawnyblew.com

Born in Mexico City, raised in Chicago and moved to California at age 12, Monica Ricardez started her career with Tower Records as a clerk in West Covina. She got a call two days after  submitting her application and filling out Bob Fetter's famous 2 page music quiz. Rotating between the record floor and the Classical Department, Monica also worked in the unique position known as Label Auditor doing inventories for specific record distributors before Tower had computerized inventory tools. Leaving Tower and moving to Mexico City to open a business with a friend, Monica became friends with one of the investors of Tower Records Mexico who lured her back to Tower and she never looked back. Training a crew of people who knew nothing about how Tower Records operated, Monica proved invaluable during her time in Mexico City. A couple years later she came back to the US working with Rick Dorsey in West Covina and immediately set about working the Latin Music section. “It's not a great section” she told him. In true Tower fashion, Dorsey gave Monica free reign to overhaul the section which she did immediately causing significant growth in that department. Recognizing these increases, Monica was promoted to the position of Southwest Latin Music coordinator and ultimately, after interviewing with Stan Goman and George Scarlett she was promoted to National Latin Music coordinator and worked out a deal where she didn't have to move to Miami as originally envisioned. Monica discusses her triumphs, her inability to get some Tower Managers fully on board and other hurdles she faced and overcame during her time at Tower Records. Her interactions with Russ Solomon are what kept her with the company to the end.

Born and raised in Queens, NY, Michael is a graduate of the prestigious Archbishop Molloy High School and the renowned music conservatory. The Manhattan School of Music. Upon graduation from The Manhattan School in 1971, he pursued a career as a professional performing musician spanning the next 35 years. While still in Manhattan, Michael started his professional playing career by being a frequent substitute drummer/percussionist at the long-running off-Broadway production of Jacques Brel Is Alive & Well & Living in Paris. Besides touring in the early 70s with Broadway National tours of Promises, Promises, Applause, and The Magic Show, Michael was also in bands backing Sally Kellerman, Dionne Warwick, The 5th Dimension, and Jane Olivor. Being hired as the original drummer for They're Playing Our Song on Broadway led to the beginning of his long and rewarding working & personal relationship with Marvin Hamlisch. With Marvin's complete & trusting support, Michael embarked on a second related career as a Music Coordinator beginning in 1992. In 1993 he was Music Coordinator and drummer for Marvin's The Goodbye Girl. From 1990 until 2005, Michael was conductor and drummer for all of Marvin's concert appearances. In addition to contracting many films and TV score recordings of Marvin's music, Michael was given his greatest opportunity when Marvin entrusted him to hire and coordinate the 63-piece orchestra for the Barbra Streisand concert tour in 1994. Michael repeated that effort several times over the next 15-20 years. Upon closing the Broadway production of Imaginary Friends featuring Marvin's music, Michael chose to put away his drumsticks and concentrate solely on his burgeoning career as a Music Coordinator.  Among over a hundred Broadway productions coordinated by Michael since 1993 are Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen, The Book of Mormon, Wicked, and The Lion King. Michael's life is complete with his wife of 40 years, Actress/Dancer/Choreographer Pamela Sousa, son Zachary, daughter Alexis, daughter-in-law Christin, and grandson Gavin Michael. For more: https://www.m2music.nyc/about-usThank you for reading Broadway Drumming 101. Inspired by his Grandmother’s gospel records, a four- year-old Patrick climbed atop a piano bench and began to play by ear. Thus began his lifetime love affair with gospel music, a passion which has consumed and driven him…   Patrick attended Norfolk State University and received the Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal music and in 2016 he completed his Masters Degree at Liberty University. While attending NSU, he was appointed director of the Voices of Inspiration Gospel Choir and won many awards and choral competitions with them. For 10 years, Patrick has blessed the NSU Voices of Inspirations with his desire to "Sing unto the Lord a New Song." Together they praised God almighty, offering songs of praise that warm the souls of those proclaiming the spirit of the Lord.   Licensed to preach in 2002, Patrick has served as the Worship Pastor to one of the top-tiered churches within Hampton Roads Region. Revered by many as a true gospel choirmaster, he has often been noted for his tremendous ability to write, arrange and produce music that is stirring and always appropriate for worship. He is best celebrated for his flamboyant, aggressive, high energy, yet technical style of choir directing and has been deemed as the "Prince of Choirs". He has served as a background vocalist and choir director for many plays, gospel artists, recordings and workshops. He currently serves under his mentor Minister Ricky Dillard as assistant director in his, Grammy nominated, Stellar Award winning choir New Generation Chorale, Chicago, Illinois.   Patrick is also the founder and conductor of his national recording choir D’vyne Worship; a 50+ voice choral aggregate which sings not only gospel and contemporary songs, but anthems as well. Under his leadership, this choir has charted on Billboard Music's Top 10 and received national recognition from the voting academy of The Stellar Awards.    He serves as the VA 2nd Jurisdiction's State Minister of Music COGIC, VA 2nd Jurisdiction's AIM Vice-Chairman, Chorum of Directors for the International Music Department COGIC, Department Cantor for the International Department of Evangelism COGIC, Music Coordinator for International Mens Department COGIC, and holds a seat on the Contemporary Adult Division Board of GMWA. Patrick frequently travels the country, as he is called upon to serve as guest conductor, vocalist, clinician, lecturer and evangelist. In 2015 Elder Riddick launched a life empowering bible study entitled "Moments of Deliverance" which is geared to equip and develop all whom desire to grow in their Christian Faith.

Over the last four decades, John Miller has served as Music Coordinator for over 130 Broadway productions and is currently represented by Ain't Too Proud: The Life and Times of the Temptations and Oklahoma!, in addition to the upcoming New York production of Tina: The Tina Turner Musical. He has worked on Broadway's biggest hits including: The Producers, Once, Jersey Boys, and Hairspray. As a bassist, he has played with everyone from Madonna, Bob Dylan, and Elvis Costello, to Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and the New York Philharmonic. As an actor, he played the role of Dee Dee the drug-dealing percussionist in Amazon Prime's Golden Globe-winning "Mozart in the Jungle" for all four seasons. Miller's album, "Stage Door Johnny", takes an irreverent and engaging musical trek through a collection of beloved tunes, featuring songs currently on Broadway - "Wouldn't It Be Loverly" from My Fair Lady, "Why Can't You Behave?" from Kiss Me Kate, and "Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin'" from Oklahoma! - in addition to unexpected choices like "Real Live Girl" from Little Me and "I Won't Grow Up" from Peter Pan. On "Stage Door Johnny", Miller uses jazzy arrangements, humor, even country music inflections to spice up the mix and create what he wryly calls "Quaalude Funk." The album seeks to remind Broadway fans just how versatile the genre is, and how well the songs stand up to new arrangements. Even those who feel predisposed to not like theater music might find themselves humming along to the tunes. On this episode, John shares his one way ticket to Bossa Nova's early formative years in Brazil. He also talks about opening night on Broadway, offers advice for musicians, and recalls one particularly memorable concert performing with Frank Sinatra at Carnegie Hall. John is just one of the dynamic guests featured on The One Way Ticket Show, where Host Steven Shalowitz explores with his guests where they would go if given a one way ticket, no coming back! Destinations may be in the past, present, future, real, imaginary or a state of mind. Meet Sean “SDot” Mascoll, this weeks featured Go Getta on The G Code Podcast. No matter what field of entertainment you work in, the one thing that everyone knows is that the lifespan for most people in this line of work is very short, but what makes the difference is one's drive to stay in it and make it all happen. Sean Mascoll a.k.a. Sdot, all around go-to guy is no stranger to hard work. Who knew that when Sdot started working on the street team for one of New York's premier hip-hop radio stations, Hot 97 (WQHT) in 2000, that it would have led him to be one of the most integral people in making SiriusXM Satellite Radio (formally Sirius Satellite Radio), function as Manager of Music Programming Operations.   Sdot's passion to leave his mark in the industry led him to a position in the production department for Hot 97's sister station Kiss FM (now ESPN Radio), while still working for Hot 97's street team in 2001. Realizing that in order for him to really make it all work, Sdot left the street team to focus on commercial production in 2002 for Emmis Communication's top three New York stations: Hot 97, 98.7 Kiss, and CD 101.9. At this point, Sdot was labeled “The Hardest Working Man in Radio” due to his motivation to really learn it all. In 2003, he was recruited to work on the “Star and Buck Wild” morning show (Hot 97) as one of the morning producers and continued on morning show production for over two years, working with Sway (MTV/SiriusXM), Joe Budden (popular rap artist/reality star), and Miss Jones (air personality). “Working morning radio was definitely an experience. I was able to work with a great staff and was able to build as a person and professional,” states Sdot. The word about his work ethic spread and in 2005, Sdot returned to commercial production where he was then approached by Reggie Hawkins who he previously worked with at Hot 97, to work for Sirius Shade 45 as a board-op for all mix shows. Still pulling hours for both commercial and satellite radio, Sdot realized the possibilities at Sirius and left commercial radio in late 2005. He came on board with Sirius Satellite Radio producing live mix shows and as a Music Coordinator working on different stations. Since then, after overcoming a few ups and downs within the radio industry and working in both talk and music radio, Sdot is currently Program Director of SiriusXM FLY (uncensored Hip Hop and RnB from the 90s and 2000s) and Manager Music Programming Operations. Some of his duties include, but not limited to the hiring of interns, part & full-time employees, creating work schedules for staff, approving timesheets, providing additional personnel support for employees, and maintaining the day-to-day operations of SiriusXM FLY. “Working at SiriusXM Satellite Radio really has been thus far the monumental point in my radio career. I think it’s such a learning experience that early in my career, I have the opportunity to be exposed to such an array of music genres and be in a position of leadership” says the mild manner Mr. Mascoll, “It’s great that one moment I’m in the studio with Boyz II Men, half hour later I’m in programming meetings”.   Making sure that listeners get their daily music fix is this magic man's forte. “A lot of people are closed minded when it comes to different kinds of music…not me! I have no problem contributing to our hip hop stations and then turning right around, and doing a live broadcast on one of our rock channels. Go figure, this Brooklyn native was so into rock?   With a diverse background, Sdot doesn't see knowing different genres of music as a problem, but as something new to learn while his career stock rises…fast! “When I tell people what I do and the channels I work on, I get mix reactions. They don’t understand how a person that's so into “hip hop” can sit for hours at a time and listen to artists like Frankie Lymon, Beres Hammond, or even a rock band like Matchbox Twenty…I tell them “change, brings freshness!”   Sdot has certainly come a long way since his humble beginnings on the street team. God and passion wakes him up every day to make Good Radio. His ability to not take “NO” for an answer, his determination, and focus will take him far. Follow him on instagram (@sdotgoodradio) and take a look into his world!   Check out The G-Code Weekly With ADRI.V The Go Getta for a dope motivational message and meetings with featured Go Getta's as they give you the G Codes to Success.
