Come along as we take a behind-the-scenes look with then-head coach John Shulman, former Moc Nicchaeus Doaks as well as JAy Blackman, deputy AD and Jim Horten, the SID for men's basketball. NBC's "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" adopted the Chattanooga Mocs as its underdog team to root for during the 2009 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. Fallon stated, “So much attention is given to the same four or five teams, so people forget that all the other teams also have a story to tell. The more we learn about the Mocs the more we like them.” Coach Shulman along with the Mocs seniors and members of the UTC Pep band and cheerleaders traveled to New York following the Mocs first round NCAA Tournament game to be on the show. During the week Dennis Haskins, “Mr. Belding” from “Saved by the Bell” popped up and the audience was outfitted with Chattanooga Mocs “Gold Rush” t-shirts. We're screaming toward the end of another great week in auto as we talk about a great new insights report from our friends at CARS Commerce. We also talk about Jim Farley's rather direct comments about Ford, as well as an ASOTU CON Speaker who was recently featured on the Jimmy Fallon Show. Our friends at CARS Commerce are leveraging their data to provide a new monthly Industry Insights Report that will pull out key industry and car-shopping data across their platforms. Here are some of the highlights:Shift to a buyer's market: The automotive industry is seeing a potential shift toward a buyer's market as of 2024, driven by a combination of lower prices, a 36% year-over-year increase in new car inventory and vehicles staying on dealer lots for longer periods — ultimately enhancing negotiation leverage for shoppers. New-car prices dipped again, but total vehicle cost is still elevated: As new-car inventory returns, prices are softening. However, Cars Commerce's just-launched New Car Pricing Index (NCPI) reveals the total cost to purchase and finance a vehicle is still 32.7% above MSRP.Increased options for budget-conscious consumers: There's a notable uptick in the availability of new vehicles priced under $30K, with a 63% year-over-year increase, indicating a broadening of options within an accessible price range for budget-conscious buyers – however, the market is still below average, down 79% when compared to pre-pandemic Jan. 2019 levels. Used-car scarcity increasing: Despite a slight decrease in average prices, an 800,000-vehicle drop in availability exacerbates the scarcity of used cars, indicating increased volatility in the market this year and highlighting the need for monitoring lease returns to project future inventory.Growing EV inventory and market adjustments: The EV market is fluctuating, with a 136.7% increase in dealer inventory allowing more consumers to test-drive vehicles previously limited by supply issues, while the used-EV market is experiencing an uptick in demand bolstered by increased supply and lower prices.During the Wolfe Research Global Auto Conference in New York, Ford CEO Jim Farley announced a strategic shift towards developing smaller, profitable electric vehicles (EVs) amidst a changing market and a new dynamic with the UAW post-strike."It's nonnegotiable that we're going to allocate capital to a new affordable electric vehicle ... and you have to make money in the first 12 months," he said Thursday, recounting the message he gave his team. "And I don't want a bullshit road map. I want, like, a real plan. And if you can't [execute] that plan, we ain't launching the car."Around the ASOTU halls, we think it's a pretty cool thing when the keynote speaker for your big upcoming event, Will Guidara, suddenly appears with his wife on a segment of the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.  Hosts: Paul J Daly and Kyle MountsierGet the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/ Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-email ASOTU Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/automotivestateoftheunion

https://cartermclean.com Carter was born in San Francisco and shortly thereafter moved to Connecticut. This is where McLean listened to and fell in love with music and especially the drums. At age 10, he started his journey as a musician. Broadway wasn't even on his radar when he started working at Manny's Music in Manhattan just prior to 9/11. The self-taught musician had just wrapped up his studies at University of Colorado, Boulder and was hoping to land a gig with someone like Sting, Peter Gabriel or Paul Simon. But then, while working his shift and playing at the store, he got noticed by a vet of Stevie Wonder's band Dennis Davis and got invited to play with legendary musician Roy Ayers in Harlem. While touring with Melvin Sparks in 2002 McLean was approached to be a sub at The Lion King in NYC. This eventually lead to McLean taking over the chair at the hit show in 2011. From Charlie Hunter to the Lion King on Broadway, McLean has been busy touring and doing studio work as well as having a busy teaching schedule. In addition McLean has shared the stage or recorded with Jamie McLean, Greg Holden, Charlie Hunter, Victor Wooten, Anthony Hamilton, Bernie Worrell (Parlament Funkadelic), Fred Wesley (James Brown), Shelby Johnson (Prince), Melanie Gabriel (Peter Gabriel) Leni Stern, Matt Duke and many others. For more, subscribe to Broadway Drumming 101 here: When you subscribe for only $10 a month, you will receive behind-the-scenes access to the life of a musician who makes a living on Broadway through YouTube videos, bi-weekly podcasts, and articles on what you need to know. You got to admit they are inventive and hilarious! Also, this week's news story out of San Francisco ties in nicely to a theme in Yanni's new hour special MOM LOVE, which is available on YouTube. District attorney Chesa Boudin has since been recalled because people are sick of the crime wave. His policies as district attorney were pretty empathetic. My guest this month is a singer and songwriter who's led an extraordinary vocal life, Tabitha Fair. Tabitha was born and raised in Oklahoma, the daughter of a preacher and a mother who ministered through music. By the time she was five years old, Tabitha knew she wanted to be a singer and have a career in music. And that she has, eventually garnering a record deal and becoming one of the A-list backup singers in the industry. She's recorded or sung with Sting, Cece Winans, Lady Gaga, Travis Tritt, Celine Dion, Faith Hill, Wynonna Judd, Lee Ann Womack, Rascal Flatts, Rita Wilson, Amy Grant, Sam Moore, James Taylor, Bette Midler, Lenny Kravitz, Bruce Springsteen, John Legend, The Roots, Jennifer Hudson, Michael McDonald, Elton John, Mary J Blige, Snoop Dog — the list goes on and on.Besides numerous recording gigs and tours, Tabitha's been a regular on the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors, The Jimmy Fallon Show, and America's Got Talent. She's also sung at the inaugurations of Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. An accomplished songwriter, Tabitha's received the Songwriters Hall of Fame Abe Ohlman Award. And she co-wrote a song with Carole King called “If We Get Through This,” which she later sang the lead vocal on in the movie “Sum Of All Fears,” starring Ben Affleck and Morgan Freeman. In our conversation, you'll hear about her trajectory from gospel singer to 20 Feet From Stardom. Plus, we look at life behind the curtain with some practical advice for singers on practicing and rehearsing for TV and touring.Tabitha is a delightful human being. Talking with her, I could see why she's been one of the go-to backup singers for all the heavy-hitters with whom she's performed. She's got a strong work ethic and a voice that can sing anything, but she also knows how to take her bright light and shine it on others, supporting them both musically and energetically. I think you're going to love her and our conversation. For full show notes, transcriptions of this episode, and more offerings for singers, you can visit my website HERE.Please join me on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. You can find Tabitha on her website and on Facebook or Instagram. The songs from today's episode are Soul-Full, A Man of His Word, If We Get Through This, and Fly (used with permission.) Theme music for the Podcast was composed by John Smith. The Marketing Secrets Show

I hope you’re watching what I’m doing and not just reading about how I’m doing it. On this episode Russell talks about how he practices what he preaches when it comes to traffic when marketing his Traffic Secrets book. Here are some of the awesome tidbits you will hear today: Find out what the three types of traffic are. Find out how Russell uses each of the types of traffic to sell more copies of his book. And find out what Russell would do if he decided to start a new business from scratch today. So listen here to find out what kinds of traffic Russell is using to sell more Traffic Secrets books. ---Transcript--- What’s up everybody? This is Russell Brunson, welcome back to the Marketing Secrets show. I’m excited to be here with you guys today and excited to share with you guys what is happening here in quarantine, how I’m launching the book, and how I’m actually practicing what I preach. Alright everybody, so if you have been on anybody’s channel for the last 3 weeks, I am in the middle of the Traffic Secrets book launch, which has been so much fun. And if you don’t have your copy of the book yet, go to trafficsecrets.com. We already paid for the book, you just cover shipping and handling, and it is a huge, 300 plus page hardbound book, that is my life work. And it’s here, it’s available and it’s ready for you right now. We actually ship it on May 5th, but you can get the book and order the audiobook right now, its an upsell. We also have this huge box set you can order as an upsell, which gives you the brand new updated, hardbound Dotcom Secrets, and the brand new, updated, hardbound Expert Secrets, the new Traffic Secrets, as well as the Unlock the Secrets workbook, which is only available right here, right now. Anyway, I wanted to jump in today because I have been doing interviews, anywhere from 6 to 8 or 9 a day every single day, talking about the Traffic Secrets book. And I had some people who were asking me, “Russell if you’re so good at driving traffic, then why are you doing these podcast interviews, and why are you blah, blah, blah…?” you know how people are. So I want to take a break from all my interviews to tell you guys why I’m doing this. And the reason why is because I’m literally practicing what I preach. As you read the book you will find out there is more than one way to drive traffic. We don’t just rely on Facebook ads. There’s a lot of things to do. And in the book I talk about basically there are 3 types of traffic. The first type of traffic is traffic that you control. So that’s like for example, look at Facebook ads, Mark Zuckerberg owns FAcebook, he owns all the traffic on Facebook. We can go to him and say, ‘I’m going to pay you money, and I want to control where some of their traffic is going and I want you to send it to my landing page or to my webinar page, or wherever we’re sending them.” So a percentage of our ads are going to be going directly to where we’re pushing it. So that’s number one, traffic that we control. The second type of traffic is traffic that we earn. So this is where we’re going out and doing podcast interviews, doing Facebook lives, we’re doing stuff. We’re not paying for those ads, but we’re earning our way in front of an audience. And then the goal with both of those types of traffic is to convert it into traffic that you own, which is your own email list. So that’s outside the context of this podcast, but I wanted you to understand. A lot of people think traffic is just controlling ads. And it’s like, no that’s just one piece of it. The other way is ads that you earn, so you’re working your way in. And I’ve shared this a couple times on some different podcasts, but if you think about this, think about how Hollywood does it. Hollywood does this all the time, right. So for example, right now, now that we’re in quarantine and lockdown with my kids, what we’ve been doing is we’ve been watching all the Marvel movies. So we started in chronological order. So we started with Captain America, then Captain Marvel, then Iron Man, and we’ve been going through. And last night we just watched Thor: The Dark World. I think tonight we’re watching Guardians of the Galaxy, and anyway we keep going through, and it’s been really, really fun. And what I’m excited for is hopefully quarantine ends about Mayish, because in May the next Marvel movie is coming out, which I’m so excited for, for so many reasons. One is because I haven’t seen a good movie in a long time, and number two is it’s Black Widow. Come on now, Scarlet Johansen, who doesn’t love Scarlet Johansen? And so we’re really excited for that. But if you start watching how Hollywood promotes this right, how Marvel does it, a couple of things will happen. Number one is they are going to buy their way in. They are going to go and control traffic. So what that means is they’re going to go on TV. So NBC, CBS, those channels on TV they own traffic, and Marvel will go and they will buy ads on those things. So they will control some of the traffic, and they’ll say, “The movie is coming out next weekend. Go and watch it.” It’ll be in front of other movies, they’re going to buy to be on the previews before movies. So they buy that spot, they’re buying their way into this distribution channel. People are already at the movie theater, they’re already watching the previews, and they buy spots in the previews. So they’re buying their way into controlled traffic. But then, about a week before the big old movie comes out, Scarlet Johansen is going to go out there and she’ll go and she’ll hit the media circuits. She’ll be on the Today Show, the Tonight Show, Good Morning America, the Jimmy Fallon Show, the Late Night, the …. I don’t even know all the shows. All the shows and the radio and the podcasts, and she’ll spend like 2 weeks of her life out there on the road working her way in to all these things. She’s not paying to be on the Tonight show, she goes on there, and she works her way. She goes and talks and entertains people, she shows a clip from the movie, and then she tells people, “Opening night is this weekend, go and watch us, support us.” And if they do it right, all those things together will create this huge launch effect, which then will get billions, not billions, but millions of people to go to the movie theater, make a billion dollars in sales and then that movie will live on for a long time. So that’s what Hollywood’s doing. And a lot of times for us we’re like, ‘I’m going to buy a Facebook ad” that’s the only way we know how to drive traffic. Most people who are driving traffic in the last 5 or 6 years have become so lazy, they rely on one thing, which is one of the big reasons why the Traffic Secrets book is to help them people understand how to get traffic from a lot of sources, how to diversify, how to think differently about traffic. So anyway, I’m literally practicing what I preach right now. I’m doing what Scarlet Johansen was doing when the movies coming out. I’m going out there, and I’m doing this. I’m out there on the podcast circuit. So for all of you guys, you may not be able to get on the Today Show, and Tonight Show, CNN and all those kind of things, but there is that equivalent in every market. Every market has a media circuit. There’s podcasts, there are blogs, there are YouTube Channels, there are already things that are already there. Your job is to figure out, how do I work my way in? How can I do that? So that’s what I’ve been doing. I’ve been literally 8 hours a day, every day for the last 3 weeks doing this. And from that we’re selling tens of thousands of copies of the book. Here I am hitting this one and this one and this one and this one and I’m telling my story and I’m promoting the book that’s coming and having them get a free copy, and I’m just doing the whole circuits. So like I said, this is how the whole game is played. I’m doing it, hopefully you’re doing it, but I get so many times people who are just like, “Well, I don’t have, I can’t buy Facebook ads, I can’t afford ads, I can’t…” You know, all the different reasons why people can’t do something. And I just want to argue for you that you can. You just gotta go create something amazing and then go and do it. So there’s my challenge for today. Anyway, I hope that makes sense to you guys. For any of you guys, I don’t know, it’s interesting as I watch people who are in business, and it’s just like, people are in this state of continual learning, and I think if I was to start a business over from scratch right now, what I would do immediately, I would go create something free. I would spend an hour tonight, just like, “What’s something sexy and cool I can make for free?” A free report, a free video, free something? Something that’s just awesome, and then I would go immediately, the first thing I would do is buy my dream 100 on the podcast circuits, I would email them all like, “Hey, I got this really cool thing I just made about how to blah, can I come talk about it on your show, and I’ll give it free for all your audience?” and they say yes, and I’ll go do 20 podcast interviews. Then I’ll go to Facebook, who are all the Facebook people and I’ll message them, you know, same thing. And I’ll hit all the circuits like that. Same game, you guys should be playing as well. If you’re not, what are you waiting for? Let’s go. It’s time to work your way and start getting traffic today. Alright, I hope that helps you guys. I appreciate you all. Thank you so much for everything. Thanks for listening to the podcast. If you enjoyed this one, please take a picture of it on your phone and share it on social media, tag me in it, tell other people to go listen. Obviously I publish this podcast for you for free, all I ask from you in return is to let other people know about it. That’s one way that we can help this thing grow and hopefully it’ll help other people, and other entrepreneurs as well. Thanks again for being here, appreciate you all, and I will see you guys all again soon. Bye everybody.

David Lee Marks is best known for his work as a member of The Beach Boys. Growing up across the street from the Wilson family, Marks spent his formative years singing and playing with Brian, Dennis, and Carl Wilson.   At age 10, David received his first guitar for Christmas; he and Carl began studying with John Maus (later John Walker of the Walker Brothers) and developing their own electric guitar style, which caught the attention of Carl's oldest brother, budding composer Brian. David and Carl's rock ‘n' roll guitar sound blended with Brian's complex harmonies to help create the signature sound of the Beach Boys. Thirteen-year-old Marks officially joined The Beach Boys in February 1962 and became one of the five signatories on the band's recording contract with Capitol Records. He remained a member through October 1963, performing in over 100 concerts across the United States, appearing on national television, and playing rhythm guitar and singing on the band's first four albums, and on hits like “Surfin' Safari,” “409,” “Surfin' U.S.A.,” “Shut Down,” “Surfer Girl,” “In My Room,” and “Be True to Your School.” While David's time in the band may be considered short, there's no denying the impact of the early years of the Beach Boys on their enduring and iconic legacy.   Leaving the Beach Boys gave David the freedom to focus on his own songwriting with a new band, David Marks & The Marksmen. One of the first bands to sign to Herb Alpert's A&M Records, The Marksmen packed concert venues up and down the state of California but ultimately disbanded in 1965 after a release on the Warner Brother's label.   Marks went on to record session-work for Murry Wilson's Sunrays. He also played with Casey Kasem's Band Without a Name, cult-classic psychedelic-pop bands The Moon and Colours, Delaney & Bonnie, and Warren Zevon. By age 21, he had been signed to five major record labels and had grown disillusioned with the Los Angeles music scene. In 1969, he relocated to Boston, where he studied jazz and classical guitar as a private student at the Berklee College of Music and the New England Conservatory. David went on to earn a reputation as a solid session guitarist without ever capitalizing on his previous association with the Beach Boys. Through it all, however, he remained friends and stayed in contact with members of the Beach Boys, even appearing as a special guest from time to time. David rejoined the band in as a full-time member in 1997, when Carl Wilson, fighting cancer, was unable to continue touring with the group. Marks left the band for a second time in 1999 after being diagnosed with hepatitis C. Since his diagnosis, he has become a leader in the hepatitis C community, often appearing in the media to raise awareness of the disease. In 2007, David co-wrote his autobiography, The Lost Beach Boy, with Beach Boys historian Jon Stebbins. The book is a frank account of his career with and without the Beach Boys, his health problems, his musical development, and his recovery and acceptance within the Beach Boys community. The Beach Boys celebrated their 50th Anniversary in 2012 when David Marks joined Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, and Bruce Johnston on a 73-date World Tour. The highly anticipated reunion kicked-off at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards where they performed two classic hits: Surfer Girl (with Foster the People) and Good Vibrations (with Maroon 5). Their studio efforts led to the release of That's Why God Made The Radio on Capitol Record, marking the first Beach Boys album of new material since 1992; for their efforts, the album broke in at Number #2 on the Billboard charts. The band's subsequent world tour took America's Band on 73 shows on four continents and included appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Late Show with Jimmy Fallon, Charlie Rose, Good Morning America, the Jools Holland Show, SMAP, and the Today Show Australia. The also sang the National Anthem on opening day of Dodger's Stadium, which was also marking its 50th season.     Post reunion, David and Al Jardine joined Brian Wilson for a short US Summer Tour, followed that fall with a subsequent North American tour which included Jeff Beck. The collaboration was voted the #3 tour of 2013 and landed Wilson, Jardine, Marks & Beck another slot on the Jimmy Fallon Show.  David Marks also joined an illustrious group of artist who guested on Brian Wilson's 2015 solo release, No Pier Pressure – his guitar can be heard on the album's single, The Right Time, which charted #28 on the Billboard charts and #1 on BBC Radio Two, and   David Marks toured as a part time member of Mike Love's Beach Boys from 2014 - 2016 and continues to perform with the Surf City All Stars and Dean Torrence of Jan & Dean.  David's also returned to his roots as a session guitarist, playing on several albums by artists such as the Smithereens, the Surf City All Stars, Mod Hippie, Jez Graham, and Miami Dan. On his own, Marks has also released two studio albums in the last five years: David Marks & Friends: Live on the Sunset Strip (with guests artists Marilyn Wilson-Rutherford of the Honeys and John Walker of the Walker Brothers) and Back in the Garage featuring Los A-Phonics, from Valencia, Spain, with whom he toured Spain in 2016.  courtesy of davidleemarks.com

Are you the kind of person who always knew you wanted to help people, make a difference, and be an influencer? Most of the time, these characteristics are evident even in young children, and that’s certainly true for today’s guest. She’s helping others in numerous ways as she chases her dreams and watches out for the dream killers along the way. Rana Campbell is a fellow Chief Dream Chaser. She is the founder, host, and Chief Dream Driver of the Dreams in Drive podcast. She’s a storyteller at heart and loves helping others figure out how to shine and put their goals into action. Her work has been featured in Elle, The Jimmy Fallon Show, Huffington Post, MadamNoire, xoNecole, Fox 5, and more. Rana is a proud graduate of Princeton University and an Emma Bowen Foundation media program alum. Dreams that shaped a life Have you always had dreams of inspiring and influencing others? Young Rana always loved reading others’ stories, being the person with the ideas, and making sure other people believed in themselves. As she grew up, she saw stories and the potential for stories everywhere. In high school, she was drawn to dance and playwriting, and she continued that dance focus in college. It was there, in a communications and marketing internship, that she realized how much she loved talking to people. Pretty fitting for a future podcast host, huh? TWEET: Self-work is the best work. @rainshineluv #chasingdreams Fear of success? Most people fear failure, but have you ever feared success? Rana shares how she questioned success and said, “If I make it, will I want it?” That kind of fear can still hold us back. Rana never wanted to be famous, but it’s been a back and forth struggle in how she views success. She says, “I want to be Oprah, but I don’t want to be Oprah.” Through it all, the driving force behind the fear and the self-work is the overriding desire to help people. TWEET: Know if you’re doubting yourself, you’re not alone. Everyone’s journey is filled with those moments. @rainshineluv #chasingdreams Watch out for dream killers! Do you live YOUR life? There is so much more to life than we can touch. We limit ourselves most often because we allow others to define what we SHOULD be doing. Rana learned the lesson to define her own life and create her own rules. Her advice is to be cautious about the advice you receive from others, because sometimes their advice is based on their own fears. These people are dream killers. A lot of us aren’t moving forward because other people are telling us we shouldn’t.  TWEET: As a kid, I loved making sure other people believed in themselves. @rainshineluv #chasingdreams Guest Recommendation: ONE action for a dream chaser to take--”You need to be real with yourself about what your dream is. We have dreams that we tell people, but those may not be our REAL dreams. Be clear and real with yourself, because that will be your inner steering wheel.”   OUTLINE OF THIS EPISODE: [:30] How the Dreams in Drive podcast came about [3:40] Young Rana’s dreams to inspire and influence [5:10] The interesting outcome of Rana’s appearance on The Jimmy Fallon Show [9:30] Selling the Dreams in Drive brand [12:00] Before Dreams in Drive [15:40] A lesson learned [17:16] Over 150 guests and episodes so far! In the summer 1970, reeds master Rahsaan Roland Kirk founded the Jazz and Peoples Movement in order to promote the visibility of the artform on mainstream television. Jazz musicians wanted to re-assert the dignity of their work to the very powers that threatened that dignity— a privately owned mass media that aggressively censored natural black inventions like collective improvisation. Their tactic: to collectively interrupt live tapings of talk shows, most notably the Merve Griffin Show and the Dick Cavett Show, and erupt into full jazz concerts with instrumentalists, poets, and singers all present and participating. Once the concerts were underway it was hard to wrest the artists from the screen without expressing that tacit hostility to their form that they were there to protest, and so jazz had a moment’s notice, and as a result musicians like Lee Morgan, Abbey Lincoln, Max Roach, and Rahsaan himself, did get the opportunity to present the less commercial face of Jazz music to the most commercial face their is— live nationally syndicated television programs. Out of this movement came experiments like David Sandborn’s show Night Music and the lesser known John Lewis Show. Today we have The Roots as “house band” on the Jimmy Fallon Show, which ranges from heartening to embarrassing depending on your mood.
