Aideloje Austin Slam is an up-and-coming visual artist who believes every artist needs to create his/her own style, because it makes the artist unique during art exhibitions and the artist can be easily identified in public. “So I would encourage young artists to have a signature because it helps them to grow faster in the industry and he has been able to master his painting skills,” he says. “I have been in the art industry for some years now, and, because of my passion and not the money, I enjoy working. I love what I do and I love my medium because I understand it very well. I am used to the concept of using fingernails to work because they are my friends and we don't give up on each other. My passion is the first thing that I do, and I know the money will come later.” When asked why he uses contemporary women's fashion and female bodies and faces as his medium of expression, he says we all know that fingernails are an addition to the female body, and he uses them in both bodies and skeletons because the beauty of fingernails can tell how beautiful the soul of every human being if people can be truthful to one another. “Sometimes when I look at some ladies' hands and I see the particular color that I have been looking for and I would think, ‘If only you are my girlfriend; these nails are for you because I feel the fingernails tell me, take me. Friends should not give up on themselves. I have been discouraged so many times, but I am still here.” The artist, popularly known as Slam Austin, adds there are so many artists in the art industry doing fantastic works with good storylines, “The only thing that stands me out is my signature. There are some artists who make good sales with or without a stay of their own. Sometimes, it is not all about the signature but what value can your works add to society. “My works focus more on internal beauty and how they affect the society in different ways, positively and negatively, as the case may be.” Narrating his first experience when he spent over N10,000 to buy the materials, he says. “Firstly, I enjoy spending money to buy materials for my work, because I spend money to get money. If I want a good result in whatever I am doing, I would spend money on it to produce that artwork that gives me joy at the end of the day. When I want to sell artwork to a client, he/she sees the quality of the work and would be happy to buy it. My art is my investment, so I spend money to produce good artwork,” he says. How does he determine the number of packs of fingernails to use in his works? The artist notes it can be measured if he is working on a commissioned job because he has an estimate that would enable him to complete the job. If he is doing a non-commissioned job, he doesn't have to draw out an estimate but all he needs to do is to work and buy more materials if the need arises for him to complete the job. Austin Slam admits the hardest work he has ever done is entitled Joyful Expectation. Hear him, “It was my first time handling the material, so I had to work hard both physically and mentally to understand what I was doing. My estimate for the work was wrong during that first time, but, now, I understand what I need for an artwork irrespective of the size.” For Austin, the future is bright, “In the next five years or more, I want to exhibit the side of my works by side with great artists in the world. I want to hold exhibitions in big museums in the United States of America, Canada, etcetera, where I will have a great and lasting impact,” he concludes. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/creative-habits/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/creative-habits/support

A N222, no Douro, é lindíssima! Especialmente, as cores nesta altura do ano. Meanwhile OnePlus has continued swinging for the budget market with two new Nord models, the N10 and N100, but they look suspiciously similar to some other Oppo and Realme phones we know... And finally there's at long last good news for Huawei, as it looks like US firms may be able to trade with the company again, just not with its 5G telecoms division - so the company's smartphone arm might be OK. The Nigerian Customs Service, Murtala Muhammed International Airport Command, yesterday turned over a suspect with 2,886 Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).The command said the suspect was nabbed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, while attempting to board an Emirates evacuation flight to Dubai.Deputy Controller of Customs, MMIA Area Command, Abdulmumin Bako, who made this revelation while handing over the suspect to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Lagos, said the suspect was detained during outward screening of passengers.“At about 11:45a.m. on August 22, at the departure hall gate ‘B' of the MMIA, Abubakar was intercepted with 2,886 ATM cards and four SIM cards by our officers on duty. The ATM and SIM cards were carefully concealed in a noodles' carton by the suspect." The suspect claimed that one Mr Musliu was assigned to him to facilitate his movement through the checks at the airport by one Mr Suleiman, but the diligence of our officers, who insisted on conducting physical examination, revealed the concealment.”The Lagos Zonal Head, EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa, said the ATM cards could be used for money laundering or foreign exchange malpractices. He pledged that everyone involved in the scheme would be arrested and prosecuted .The EFCC said though it is not a crime to be with ATM cards, but for a person to be in possession of 2,886 at a time brings about lots of suspicion.Bawa also raised fresh alarm of Nigerians selling their bank accounts information to fraudsters, saying it has been the latest trend. “In the last couple of years, we noticed a new trend whereby Nigerians are selling off their bank accounts to fraudsters. The fraudsters advise them to open bank accounts and they buy them off for as low as N10,000.”

Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2020.07.21.214403v1?rss=1 Authors: Hunyady, J. P. Abstract: The present paper represents a hypothetical structure, the structure for energy transformation (SET), and its proposed evolution, which might be responsible for the proper energy transformation steps leading to the continuous production of H+ and ATP in living cells. We predict that the electron flow is realized through the electron flow device (EFD). We suppose that there are several versions of the SET with three of them being described below. The hypothesis is based on the properties of the atoms of the protonated adenine molecule and docking computations of molecular mechanics involved, suggesting that two ascorbate molecules may occupy the empty NADPH pocket, preferably binding to the adenine binding site. We hypothesize that the adenine originates from uric acid (UA), resulting in an ATP-UA-ADP-ATP cycle. It would also mean that UA is one of the oxygen carriers in aerobic glycolysis. We also suppose that the EFD contains the well-known molecules and clusters of the electron transport chain supplemented with two additional UA originated adenine molecules and two L-ascorbic acid molecules. Based on all this, we surmise that a tetra adenine octo phosphate ring (TAR) exists, in which the UA originated adenine molecules form a ring. The molecules are linked to each other through the N7-C2 and C8-N1 atoms of the adenine molecules by H2PO4e- molecules. The four N10 atoms of the adenine molecules bind one flavin, one nicotinamide, and two L-ascorbic acid molecules. Six D-glucose molecules complete one unit of the structure. Both Fe-S and cytochrome clusters and dehydrogenases ensure the continuous operation of the unit. Eukaryotic cells are equipped with the mechanisms of the SET, using aerobic glycolysis of Warburg and the SET of oxidative phosphorylation; thus, they can live in an anoxic environment as well. It is hoped that the concept of the SET developed here will help to better understand the complex process of energy transformation. Copy rights belong to original authors. The Federal Government on Monday said that it was increasing its borrowing in the year because of the effects of coronavirus on the nation’s revenue profile. It also anchored the increased borrowing on unexpected spending on healthcare in a bid to contain the coronavirus pandemic. The Director-General of the Debt Management Office, Patience Oniha, had in her presentation before the Senate Committee on Foreign and Local Debts, said the proposed new 2020 budget of N10.51tn now has a deficit of N4.56tn. She said the deficit would be financed through domestic borrowing of N2.19tn and external borrowing of N1.98tn, amounting to N4.17tn. According to Oniha, the increase in the new borrowing for 2020 is due to the increase in the deficit in the budget from N2.18tn to N4.58tn. She said the revision of the 2020 budget became necessary due to the effects of COVID-19 on Nigeria’s revenues and the need for new spending on health to meet the health challenges occasioned by COVID-19. --- This episode is sponsored by · Afrolit Podcast: Hosted by Ekua PM, Afrolit shares the stories of multi-faceted Africans one episode at a time. https://open.spotify.com/show/2nJxiiYRyfMQlDEXXpzlZS?si=mmgODX3NQ-yfQvR0JRH-WA Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/newscast-africa/support

The Nigerian government has reviewed its policy on stamp duty charges, levied on electronic payments. The new proposed finance bill disclosed that the N50 stamp duty charge would now be levied on electronic payments above N10,000 as against payment above N1,000. The finance bill is a plan by the Federal Government to revamp tax administration in the country by introducing various tax increment. However, the new bill exempts bank transfers between two accounts owned by the same person or organization from stamp duty charges. The bill repeals a provision of the Stamp Duty Act 2014 which holds the threshold for receipts chargeable with stamp duty as N4 and above.the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), through a circular released on the 17 of September, which majorly affected Point of Sale transactions, authorized banks to unbundle merchant settlement amounts and charge applicable taxes and duties on individual transactions. The directive, which took effect immediately, was widely rejected by industry stakeholders and Nigerians at large, with concerns that the policy would stern the cashless economy and financial inclusion agenda of the government. Meanwhile, in recent developments, some merchants had upgraded their POS machines to automatically charge N50 for transactions above N1,000 to avoid the occasional backlash that comes with seeking customers’ consent before adding the charge manually during POS payments. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/newscast-africa/support Learn more about your ad choices. Nigerian Electricity Suppliers Plan to Increase Tariffs Beginning of Year 2020

Business Drive

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 22, 2019 6:50

From 2020, Nigerians will experience a hike in the price of electricity supply, as the Federal government has increased the price to be paid for the service by consumers. The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) revealed that consumers will have to pay an additional sum of between N8 and N14 for every kilowatt-hour of energy provided by their respective distribution companies (DisCos). Information contained in the NERC documents states that the tariff increase for each DisCo differs. NERC also revealed the actual cost-reflective tariff for each of the 11 power distribution companies operating in Nigeria.   What Abuja DisCo’s (AEDC) customers pay currently and what will be paid from next year is an increase of N9.8/kWh. Similarly, for Benin DisCo (BEDC), the difference between what is currently being paid and the new tariff from next year is an increase of N9.75/kWh. For Eko DisCo, tariff from 2017 to 2019 per kWh was N28.3 in each of the years, while those of 2020 and 2021 were put at N36.8 and N39.2. The difference between what Eko DisCo’s customers pay currently and what they will pay from next year is an increase of N8.5/kWh. It was learnt that customers under Enugu Disco will get a tariff increase of N10.6/kWh from next year. According to the Commission, the allowed end-user tariffs for Enugu Disco for 2019, 2020 and 2021 per kWh are N35.3, N45.9 and N41.6, respectively. For residents who are served by Ibadan DisCo, the end-user allowed tariffs for 2019, 2020 and 2021 per kWh are N30.6, N39.7 and N44.2, respectively. This implies that by next year, power consumers who get supply from Ibadan DisCo will witness an increase of N9.1/kWh in their tariff. In Ikeja DisCo’s franchise areas, customers will have to pay additional N8.2/kWh from next year. This is because the end-user allowed tariffs in the order from NERC put the tariffs for 2019, 2020 and 2021 per kWh at N27.3, N35.5 and N37.1 respectively. Also, in Jos Disco, tariff increases by N10.1/kWh, as consumers under this Disco will have to pay N43.9/kWh by 2020, as against the current N33.8/kWh. Kaduna DisCo’s power consumers will pay an increase of N9/kWh. The end-user allowed tariffs for 2019, 2020 and 2019 per kWh for Kaduna DisCo, as represented by NERC, are N30.3, N39.3 and N41.7, respectively. Also, for Kano DisCo, NERC increased the end-user allowed tariffs from N30.1/kWh in 2019 to N44.7/kWh in 2020 and N41.8/kWh in 2021. This implies that residents who are served by this DisCo will witness an increase of N14.6/kWh in the tariff they pay for electricity. Recent Development: The latest tariff may not come as a surprise just as the government had clearly been premediating the plans to increase electricity tariffs. Nairametrics in an earlier publication in June reported that electricity tariff might rise. The Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Dr. Usman Gur Mohammed, hinted this while disclosing the Federal Government’s readiness to inject $1.7 billion into the DisCos. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/newscast-africa/support Learn more about your ad choices.  Ahead of the deadline given by the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) for insurance firms to recapitalize, Consolidated Hallmark Plc has revealed its plan to raise its capital base from N6.1 billion to N10 billion. It is seeking an additional N3.9 billion to meet the new capital requirement, after it's capital base has been increased from N3 billion to N10 billion. While maintaining that its first line of action would be to issue additional share by way of a rights issue, Consolidated Hallmark made known that it is important it shares its plans with shareholders and stakeholders to get their support to realize the new target. According to the insurance firm, the rights issue would give existing shareholders the opportunity to increase their stakes in the company and take the benefit of a lower offer price than that of a public offer. Consolidated Hallmark, however, hinted that other options available to the company to achieve the additional capital required were private placement, public offer or merger, and acquisition. Recall that NAICOM of recent announced an increment in the minimum paid-up share capital of insurance and reinsurance firms. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/newscast-africa/support --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/newscast-africa/support Learn more about your ad choices.
