Pollution Prevention Presents A Major, Largely Unexploited Opportunity To Improve Children's Health Michelle Perro, MD• http://www.gmoscience.org • Book - What's Making our Children Sick #MichellePerro#Glyphosate  #GutHealth  #Children Michelle Perro, MD is a veteran clinician with nearly four decades of experience in both pediatrics as well as in integrative medicine treating both children and their families.  Her career began in Pediatric Emergency Medicine winding its way into integrative medicine over the past 20 years.  She has been director of a Pediatric Emergency Department in NYC and spent over a decade at UCSF Benioff Oakland Children's Hospital.  Dr. Perro has been a tireless advocate regarding the role of GM food and their associated pesticides centered on their effect on children's health. She is co-author of the highly acclaimed book,  What's Making our Children Sick? This book Explores the links between GM foods, glyphosate, and gut health. With chronic disorders among American children reaching epidemic levels, hundreds of thousands of parents are desperately seeking solutions to their children's declining health. What's Making Our Children Sick? convincingly explains how agrochemical industrial production and genetic modification of foods is a culprit to this epidemic. Most chronic health disorders have multiple causes and require careful diagnosis and complex treatments. However, what if toxicants in our foods are a major culprit, one that, if corrected, could fix our health? What's Making Our Children Sick? explores the frightening links between our efforts to create higher-yield, cost-efficient foods and an explosion of childhood morbidity, but it also offers hope and a path to effecting change.  What's Making Our Children Sick? exposes our current predicament and offers insight on the medical responses that are available, both to heal our kids and to reverse the compromised health of our food supply. She is the Executive Director and co-founder of the website www.gmoscience.org. Her column, Pediatric Pearls, can be found in the integrative medical journal, The Townsend Letter. Her Youtube channel can be found by searching GMO Science. The topic of this episode is “Role of EEG in Pediatric Emergency Department” To explore this topic further, I invited Dr. Manish Shah Professor of Pediatrics at Baylor College of Medicine and Attending Physician in the Texas Children's Hospital Emergency Center in Houston.  Dr. Shah is passionate about improving pediatric prehospital and hospital-based emergency care on local, statewide and national levels through advocacy, education, and research. As a former appointed member of the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Emergency Medical Services Advisory Committee (NEMSAC) from 2015-2017 and a past chair of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) subcommittee for the American Academy of Pediatrics Section of Emergency Medicine from 2011-2014, he has collaborated with stakeholders to enhance awareness of issues of national significance in pediatric prehospital care.  He has collaborated with colleagues across the United States to develop an online EMS educational resource for physicians, co-create the curriculum and educational research for the Pediatric Simulation Training of Emergency Prehospital Providers (PediSTEPPs) program at Texas Children's Hospital, and develop an EMS training curriculum for the Botswana Ministry of Health.  In addition, Dr. Shah has lectured at the National Association of EMS Physicians (NAEMSP) and Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Annual Meetings to promote understanding of the special needs of children in the prehospital environment. Dr. Shah is currently the Principal Investigator for the Pediatric Dose Optimization for Seizures in Emergency Medical Services (PediDOSE) study, which has been funded by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) and is being conducted in the Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network (PECARN). Vasopressor use in the Pediatric Emergency Department has been a moving target for my entire career. Back when I was a resident and fellow we used Dopamine. Then we went to epinephrine because it can be given through a peripheral IV because norepinephrine was too dangerous to run peripherally. But maybe that’s not entirely true. […]

If health is the measure by which we humans are equipped to survive in our current environment, then our children are the proverbial canaries in the coal mine. One in 13 American children has a serious food allergy. Nearly one in 10 has asthma. One in five is obese. And one in 68 has a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder. The rate at which these and other chronic conditions have become commonplace (read: epidemic) over the past few decades is equally stunning: childhood food allergies have increased 50 percent since 1997; celiac disease has more than quadrupled over the past half-century, with rates increasing particularly among children; and serious mental disorders, once rare, are now expected to afflict 20 percent of children over the course of their lifetime. So what the hell is going on?My guests today, Dr. Michelle Perro and Vincanne Adams, offer some stunning answers in their must-read new book What’s Making Our Children Sick? How Industrial Food Is Causing an Epidemic of Chronic Illness, and What Parents (and Doctors) Can Do About It. In it, they explore the connection between genetically modified foods, glyphosate (the world’s most widely used pesticide), and gut health, and make a damning case for the related rise in chronic childhood disorders since GM foods were introduced to the American public. GMOs have sparked endless controversy in the US, which is why it’s notable that Adams and Perro are far from the conspiracy-theory crowd: Vincanne is a professor and vice-chair of medical anthropology at the University of California, San Francisco, and Michelle is a pediatrician with over 35 years of experience in acute and integrative medicine (including as a former director of the Pediatric Emergency Department at New York’s Metropolitan Hospital). Here, they trace their own journeys from skeptics to activists and make a powerful case for why it's critical we move beyond the "GMOs aren't natural" argument. We also delve into Michelle's method for successfully treating children with chronic hard-to-diagnose health problems. So if you have a child with a chronic health issue (or even you yourself have a chronic health issue) and have been struggling to find answers, don't miss this episode!
