In Texas, a judge sentenced a group of anti-ICE demonstrators to decades in prison. On this week's On the Media, how leftist zines were used to convict a group of protesters accused of ties to antifa. Plus, as we approach the nation's 250th birthday, we reflect on America's inability to reckon with the darkest parts of its past. There's a lot on the docket today. To pull apart the Iran “deal” framework, Mary and Andrew are joined by Tess Bridgeman, an international law expert who served as a legal advisor in the Obama administration through the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran. Tess lays out how President Trump's 14-point memorandum of understanding differs from what was brokered in 2015, and what to watch for as negotiations continue. Before she joins, the co-hosts begin by analyzing several examples of what Mary calls the Trump Justice Department's "consistent effort” to avoid judicial review: their refusal to put into a sworn declaration that they won't move forward with the “Anti-Weaponization” fund and a motion to dismiss a Clean Air Act violation lawsuit against Elon Musk's xAI data center in Mississippi. They also tackle a few instances where, contrastingly, the government has positioned itself “on the offense” this week, including an indictment of 15 protesters on a conspiracy charge against ICE and the DHS' intent to build a border wall through a holy landmark atop Mount Cristo Rey in New Mexico. Further reading: Here is the New York Times piece, Mary referred to about the Las Cruces case: A Diocese Tries to Protect Its 29-Foot Jesus From Trump's Border Wall Here is the Just Security tracker that Mary and Andrew mentioned: Immigration Habeas Tracker: Government Obstruction, Judicial Trust, and Accountability Sign up for MS NOW Premium on Apple Podcasts to listen to this show and other MS podcasts without ads. A Fox News regular runs a company that sells paid protesters to the highest bidder. We sat him down and asked about the bodies, the lawsuits, and the crowds he says he can manufacture for anyone willing to pay. Adam Swart is the founder of Crowds on Demand, a Beverly Hills firm that supplies actors and paid demonstrators for protests, hearings and PR stunts. He has spent the past year on Fox News, Newsmax and OANN telling conservative audiences that the protests against Donald Trump are organised, funded and fake. The catch is that manufacturing protest for money is, by his own account, the entire business. This drops the morning after Trump turned his 80th birthday into a cage fight on the White House lawn, while millions took to the streets in a fresh round of No Kings protests. So we dug into the real history of Crowds on Demand: paid actors posing as Hurricane Katrina survivors at a council hearing, a federal racketeering lawsuit settled with a published apology, a recruitment drive for people hired purely to intimidate, and an unverifiable claim that someone once offered Swart millions to fake an anti-Trump crowd. It is not a hit job. He comes with some genuinely interesting anecdotes, including work his company says it did for people who use PrEP, and the conversation finds real common ground before it asks the harder questions his usual bookers never do. Good afternoon, I'm _____ with today's episode of EZ News. Tai-Ex opening The Tai-Ex opened up 279-points this morning from yesterday's close, at 44,448 on turnover of $18.6-billion N-T. Shares in Taiwan closed more than 1,000 points higher Friday with AI-related stocks in focus amid improved sentiment after U.S. President Donald Trump cancelled planned strikes against Iran. Analysts say electronics heavyweights, notably in the semiconductor industry simply followed suit and the momentum largely reflected optimism toward AI development. And select raw material stocks also moved higher in line with the Taiex. Civil groups urge protections for migrant caregivers through agency hiring Civil groups are urging the government to allow household migrant caregivers to be hired and managed by long-term care agencies. They say, the move would prevent overwork and better protect the interests of both those providing and receiving care. Protesters demonstrated at a rally outside the Ministry of Health and Welfare, saying "exploitation (利用,剝削) is not a choice." Advocates described facing long working hours, limited opportunities for rest or leave, and increasing care responsibilities that often go beyond what one person can do. They noted that the rights to rest and take leave are "fundamental labor and human rights," and emphasized that caregivers being overworked affected the quality of care received by older adults. MOHW officials say that the proposed change would require significant regulatory changes and careful assessment. 2 Mercury viewing events coming up The Taipei Astronomical Museum says, stargazers may be able to view Mercury with the naked eye twice this week… This month Mercury is visible low in the western sky after sunset and can be seen more easily with binoculars. The first event will occur tomorrow, with one of the best chances all year to observe the planet. Then on Wednesday, Mercury will join Venus, Jupiter, and a crescent moon in the western sky, with all four objects forming a vertical arrangement. The museum recommended viewing the events between 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. from a location with an unobstructed (無障礙的) view of the western horizon… but they do warn of unstable weather affecting visibility. Gaza latest Gaza's Health Ministry says the Palestinian death toll from the Israel-Hamas war has surpassed 73,000. The updated toll came as Israel has continued to strike what it says are militant targets, often killing civilians, despite a fragile (脆弱的) ceasefire deal reached in October. Donna Warder again. G7 Summit Protests Thousands of demonstrators are converging in Geneva to show their discontent with the G7 group of rich countries. U.S. President Donald Trump and counterparts are set to hold a summit starting today across Lake Geneva in France. Environmentalists and feminists on Sunday joined protesters against imperialism (帝國主義), defenders of independent media and supporters of Palestinian rights and others in a lakeside park for a march across town. The summit from Monday to Wednesday in Evian-les-Bains, France, will discuss the Middle East, Ukraine and global economic issues. Demonstrators have been gathering for days. Switzerland Rejects Proposal to Cap Population Swiss voters have rejected a proposal to cap the country's population at 10 million. The initiative, led by the right-wing Swiss People's Party, was seen as a move against migration. Preliminary results showed nearly 55% opposed the measure, with a turnout of almost 59%. Critics warned it could harm Switzerland's ties with the European Union. Switzerland isn't an EU member but is surrounded by EU countries. The proposal's defeat reflects ongoing debates about immigration in Europe. Swiss democracy allows voters to directly influence policy through referendums, highlighting the country's unique approach to governance (治理). That was the I.C.R.T. It's a few days out from Toronto's 2026 Walk with Israel, and volunteers and walkers are still sharing their impressions and experiences of participating in the largest Jewish pride event in Canadian history, Sunday's Walk was noteworthy because it had a record turnout of 60,000 people. It required a massive police presence that successfully kept most of the anti-Israel protests farther away than previous editions, with six people arrested. Last year only one person was arrested and charged. Yet this year's Walk also took place just hours after two Canadian synagogues were targeted by hate crimes, and also a few days following Prime Minister Mark Carney's nationally-televised speech acknowledging that antisemitism in Canada has reached levels not seen since the Second World War. As a result, despite the walk being better protected than before, many participants told The CJN they feel less secure than ever living openly as Jews in Canada. Which is why wanted to come show their Jewish pride and solidarity, and also to express anger and frustration at some of Canada's political leaders. Neither Carney nor Toronto's Mayor Olivia Chow attended the walk in person, but activists from Jewish advocacy group Tafsik made sure the politicians' absence was front and centre: they supplied life-sized, cardboard cutouts of both leaders to carry along the parade route. On today's episode of The CJN's North Star podcast, host Ellin Bessner shares the sights and sounds she encountered along the route. You’re listening to American Ground Radio with Louis R. Avallone and Stephen Parr. This is the full show for June 8, 2026. We open with Border Czar Tom Holman's revelation that the protesters outside the Delaney Hall ICE detention center in Newark are not grassroots New Jersey residents — they are professional travel protesters identified by facial recognition as having shown up at ICE facilities across the country, many from Portland and Minnesota. We explain why this isn't surprising, why Nancy Pelosi herself coined the term astroturf back in 2010 to describe the exact same tactic, and why the left's first instinct is always to accuse their opponents of the strategies they're already executing. We also ask the question nobody in the media is asking — who is funding this, and why haven't the organizers been charged under the RICO Act for coordinating criminal activity across state lines? In our Top 3 Things You Need to Know, Spencer Pratt has apparently been eliminated from the Los Angeles mayor's race — after holding a clear second place on Election Day, his vote share in ballots arriving after Election Day collapsed from 28% to 19%, while Democratic socialist Nithya Raman went from third place to first, gaining 17 percentage points in post-Election Day ballots to overtake both Pratt and Karen Bass. The DOJ is in California investigating the election. Then a 200-page House Oversight Committee report accuses Minnesota Governor Tim Walz of covering up massive Medicaid fraud in his state — including ordering employees to stop investigating fraud in Somali immigrant communities to avoid appearing racist, and then turning the investigative apparatus against the whistleblowers themselves, photographing their cars, monitoring their phones and computers, and finding out where their children went to school. And a nonprofit filed a lawsuit to stop the UFC fight on the White House lawn, claiming it violates federal law and an environmental impact study wasn't conducted before the temporary stadium was built. We discuss President Trump walking out of his interview with Kristen Welker — and our American Mama Teri Netterville says what millions of Americans were thinking when they watched it. We talk about the growing gap between what the media is willing to report on Republicans versus Democrats, how the same anchor who challenges Trump's claim that Capitol Police let protesters into the Capitol has shown that footage on her own broadcast, and why after years of being asked to sit down with people who are going to misrepresent everything he says, the president finally said enough. We also weigh in on Steven Spielberg's new movie Disclosure Day, in which he says he believes aliens have been here, that they are here, and that his film will leave Christians questioning their faith in God. We respectfully decline. We also note that he seems considerably less eager to challenge the faith of groups that don't respond with patience. In our Digging Deep segment, Scott Pelley went to the New York Times after being fired from CBS and complained that his new boss suggested the public thinks CBS is biased — and Pelley demanded to know what evidence exists for that claim. We provide the evidence. Gallup's 2024 poll showed only 31% of Americans had any trust in mass media — the lowest since 1972. In 2025 it dropped to 28%. An Emerson College poll from 2025 found only 18% of Americans have a great deal of trust in national news organizations. Half of Americans believe news organizations deliberately mislead them. AllSides rates CBS with the same left-leaning bias as CNN, the New York Times, NPR, and the Washington Post. All of this was available on the first page of a single search engine query. We say if Pelley couldn't find it, he should have been fired for incompetence, not just insubordination. We cover WNBA player Breonna Turner's objection to the USA 250 anniversary patch on WNBA jerseys — because, she says, none of the players would have been free 250 years ago. We note that basketball wasn't invented until 1891, and more importantly, that America's 250th anniversary is a celebration not of perfection but of the principles in the Declaration of Independence that Martin Luther King himself called a promissory note — the promise that made her freedom possible. For our Bright Spot, the Department of Energy announced last week that a new nuclear reactor reached zero power fueled criticality at a lab in Idaho — the first reactor in 40 years to reach criticality in the United States — a month ahead of President Trump's July 4th deadline that most experts said was impossible. We explain what zero power criticality means, why micro-reactors are a game changer for energy independence, why the U.S. Navy has operated nuclear reactors on submarines and aircraft carriers since the 1950s with zero accidents, and why the future belongs to nations with abundant, affordable, and reliable energy. And we close with Hakeem Jeffries apparently trying to launch his own Contract with America — assembling a Democratic affordability agenda with AOC in charge of healthcare and a transgender member of Congress in charge of caregiving. We wish him luck. We also close with 1,000 avocado growers in the Mexican state of Michoacán setting a world record with 15,000 pounds of guacamole. May your pursuit of happiness bring you joy. Hundreds of detained people launched a hunger and labor strike at Delaney Hall in Newark, New Jersey, over Memorial Day weekend to protest inhumane conditions at the immigration detention facility run by the for-profit company GEO Group. Protesters flocked to the scene to echo detainees' pleas for release and better conditions — and were met with brutal tactics from federal, local, and state law enforcement officials, who beat, tear-gassed, and arrested protesters.“Detainees are raising that they have no access to quality medical care, that they're not getting needed medications,” Andrea Sáenz, a former federal appellate immigration judge who was fired by the Trump administration last year, tells The Intercept Briefing. “They don't have enough food to eat. The food that they are getting is spoiled. They're facing hostility and harassment and violence from the guards.” This week on the podcast, host Jessica Washington speaks to Sáenz and Aaron Reichlin-Melnick, a senior policy fellow at the American Immigration Council, about the conditions at the 1,000-bed jail and other detention centers across the country. The Trump administration has restricted members of Congress and state officials from oversight of federal immigration detention centers. “ICE doesn't want people to see the way that they're treating human beings in these facilities,” says Sáenz. Intercept reporter Noah Hurowitz, who covers federal law enforcement and immigration, was on the scene at Delaney Hall on Monday. He describes the violence that erupted outside of the facility between protesters and law enforcement officers.“The ICE agents on the scene were quite willing to use violence at times against protesters,” says Hurowitz. “But from everything I saw, the Newark and New Jersey police were much more indiscriminate with their violence and much more willing to attack outright and fire tear gas and really put people in danger.”Reichlin-Melnick says that the Trump administration's war on immigrants should concern everyone. “We're seeing every government database being turned into a tool of the mass deportation state, and that is something that impacts all Americans,” he adds, “because you cannot carry out a mass deportation of 4 percent of the U.S. population without fundamentally transforming the United States into more of a police state.” For more, listen to the full conversation of The Intercept Briefing on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you listen.Keep our investigations free and fearless at theintercept.com/join. RIOTS BREAK OUT IN U.K. DUE TO NOWAK MURDER UNREST.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Middle East: This evening Kuwaiti forces reported another wave of missile and drone attacks. So far no indication of the success of these targeting efforts has been disclosed, however the situation is still developing at the time of this report.Persian Gulf: This afternoon CENTCOM targeted another merchant vessel for attempting to violate the American blockade of Iranian ports. The M/T LEXIE was struck with a missile, marking the sixth such vessel targeted by the United States so far during this war.Lebanon: Yesterday Prime Minister Netanyahu directly rejected President Trump's request to halt their invasion of Lebanon, with Netanyahu stating on his Hebrew-language account that "the IDF will continue to operate as planned in southern Lebanon". As a result, fighting continued throughout the night with the IDF and Hezbollah trading missile strikes as of early this morning.-HomeFront-Washington D.C. - This morning Tulsi Gabbard's replacement for Director of National Intelligence has been named as Bill Pulte, the current director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, the agency responsible for managing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Pulte will not be stepping aside from his current role to serve as DNI, President Trump stated that he will continue to do both jobs. Pulte does not have any history of intelligence work, with his career purely being focused in the world of finance.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: In the United Kingdom, local tensions remain at a boiling point following the murder of Henry Nowak. After the trial, the events in the courtroom during the sentencing have been leaked, which included the Digwa family becoming unruly after the verdict was read. At least one Digwa family member shouted claims of racism at the judge, and had to be restrained by police. After this incident, the Digwa family released a statement apologizing to the Sikh community for this murder. Similarly, the Sikh Community issued a statement reminding everyone of the impact that racism has had on them, and a few Members of Parliament have also taken a position on the attack which has inflamed tensions even more.As one might expect, this has doused gasoline on the fire, and this afternoon several snap protests have broken out with two demonstrations being reported at the Southampton Police Station, and also at Belmont Road where Nowak was murdered. So far, these protests have transitioned into fairly low intensity riots, however there are thousands of people in the street. The Nowak murder site is also a short distance from a heavily-populated Sikh enclave, where at least four Sikh temples are emplaced throughout residential areas. Protesters who are walking on foot between the two protest sites will have to transit through Sikh-held terrain, and since a sizable portion of the Sikh community has decided to rally around their guy (and their use of the Kirpan), the potential for armed clashes remains quite likely. The situation is developing by the minute and more updates are expected overnight as societal tensions come to a head once again.Analyst: S2A1 Research: https://publish.obsidian.md/s2underground Disclaimer: No LLMs were used in the writing of this report. //END REPORT//

I'm stepping away from the slit lamp this week to talk about a different kind of eye emergency. The ones happening on the front lines of protests across the country. I've been seeing way too many videos of people losing their vision to "non-lethal" force, so I invited Adam Rose, the Deputy Director of Advocacy for the Freedom of the Press Foundation, to help us navigate this. Adam has 20 years of journalism under his belt and spends his time making sure the people documenting history don't end up as patients in my clinic. Whether you're a journalist, a protester, or just a citizen with a smartphone, this episode is a crash course in exercising your First Amendment rights without losing an eyeball. Takeaways: Why a build-up of food gases in an old Thermos can pop a lid with enough force to cause a "ruptured globe" injury. The difference between a "Democratic physician-owned group" and a "Contract Management Group" staffing your local hospital. How a doctor living in Illinois can technically "own" an emergency practice in Oregon through a legal loophole. Why Will thinks "home call" in residency is just a clever way to skirt work-hour restrictions. This case was seen as a test case for harsher enforcement by the Trump administration against protestors, and now there’s a verdict. Three anti-ICE protestors have been found guilty of federal conspiracy charges. The case had to do with a demonstration outside of the Spokane ICE office last June. The protest was part of a wave of anti-immigration actions that popped up across the country. The day after the protest in Spokane, the Trump Administration started cracking down on immigration protests by instructing prosecutors to charge non-violent demonstrators with conspiracy. So what happens now to these convicted protestors? And what does this mean for future political marches or demonstrations? Mary and Andrew begin this week by tackling a decision by a U.S. District Judge to dismiss criminal charges against Kilmar Ábrego García, calling the administration's case against García a vindictive prosecution for challenging his illegal deportation last year. Mary and Andrew couple this topic with a conversation about the “Broadview Six” case, involving a group of Chicago ICE protesters whose criminal case was dropped, similarly, due to misconduct by the DOJ. Then, Mary and Andrew continue a discussion from last week about Trump's $1.776 billion settlement with the IRS — specifically about an addendum to the settlement which grants Trump and "affiliated individuals" extremely broad protections from future prosecutions. They then talk about Carmen Lineberger, a former federal prosecutor indicted for sending unreleased files from the Jack Smith report to her personal email account. Plus, a conversation about a decision by a federal judge who has ordered the White House to comply with the Presidential Records Act, undermining the DOJ's ability to give the administration a legal way to destroy White House records from the second Trump term.
