Happy Days is the iconically classic 70s TV sensation about the 50s. Its legacy is unparalleled, its popularity ongoing. The show  launched a character who remains the embodiment of cool, Fonzie, and it cemented its cast into icon status in perpetuity.  That cast includes Donny Most, who played wise-cracking Ralph Malph, who, complete with his own catchphrase, “I still got it!” took a minor role and turned it into the stuff of legend.Don joins us this week to look back on his decades in Hollywood, the magic formula that brought Happy Days to fruition, and created a lasting legacy, and his tireless pursuit of creative expression that continues to keep his schedule full and fulfilling.Don shares stories about his first foray into show business, as a Catskills performing teen, his early guest starring roles on Emergency and Room 222, how he dropped out of college to maintain his acting momentum and landed a small role on Happy Days which he initially turned down until a fateful basketball playing encounter between his manager and Garry Marshall upped the incentives and sealed the deal. Donny and his cast-mates developed a strong, life-long bond which he credits to the collaborative set atmosphere, the genius of Garry Marshall and the strong example set by Ron Howard, which helped anchor egos aboard the Happy Days rocket ride. Type-casting came with the Happy Days territory and it took years or hard work on stage for new opportunities to present themselves. Don has since gone into directing and producing and his most recent roles are the most compelling and diverse of his career. Potsie took most of the lead vocals in the Happy Days band but Donny has been a singer since childhood and his most recent big-band, American Songbook recording, New York High has a BBC reviewer calling him, “The new Sinatra.”All this plus the truth behind the lawsuit against CBS,  Happy Days trivia and Don's dramatic Baywatch rescue! And, in recommendations, Fritz and Weezy are discussing Ellen DeGeneres: For Your Approval and Monsters: The Lyle And Erik Menendez Story, both on Netflix.Path Points of Interest:Donny MostDonny Most on WikiDonny Most on IMDBDonny Most on TwitterNew York High on Apple MusicFar HavenHarsen's Island RevengeUnsung HeroGallatin Comic Con AppearanceEllen DeGeneres: or Your Approval on NetflixMonsters: The Lyle And Erik Menendez Story on NetflixGift of DemocracyMedia Path Podcast

While in junior high school, Don committed to the professional study of acting, singing, and dancing. At fifteen, Don got his first big break as part of a teenage musical revue that played the famous “Borscht-Belt” circuit of New York's Catskill Mountains. At age twenty, Don Most catapulted into the American zeitgeist when he won the role of Ralph Malph on the television pilot Happy Days. The role was originally a stock jock character. Director Jerry Paris and Executive Producer Garry Marshall were so charmed by Don's charisma and natural comedic timing they reworked the part and transformed Ralph Malph into the beloved class comedian that won the hearts of America. Throughout his storied career Don Most's dream of returning to his early musical days never wavered. Inspired by his love of swing, jazz and big band music, he created the musical revue Donny Most Sings and Swings. The show debuted in Los Angeles at Catalina's Jazz Club in Hollywood, and Vitello's Jazz Club in Studio City to great acclaim. Don's act showcases his love of the great standards, and covers the likes of Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, and his favorite, Bobby Darin. Don Most married actress Morgan Hart in 1982 after meeting on the set of Happy Days. They have two daughters, Madison and Mackenzie, and live in Los Angeles, California. Anson Williams grew up in a modest home in Burbank which his WWII-veteran father bought with a VA loan. His idyllic childhood unfolded against the sunshine and particular American optimism of the 1950s and 1960s. So when he and his friend Ron Howard were cast in "Happy Days," Garry Marshall's nostalgic look back at the 1950s, he fit neatly within the 1970s zeitgeist. The show, which ran from 1974 to 1984, made Williams' Potsie Weber, along with Howard's Richie Cunningham, Don Most's Ralph Malph and Henry Winkler's Fonzie, among the best-known characters of the era, viewed each week by nearly 70 million people. Williams soaked up lessons on set from Marshall and Howard and has now amassed 43 credits to date as a director, in addition to his 100+ acting credits. He now lives in Ojai, a place he's been visiting for decades and regards as a haven and sanctuary from the manic pace of the outside world. He's announced his bid for Mayor and is committed to bringing a collaborative, cooperative style to Ojai's pressing issues such as affordable housing, fire and drought threats and a spirit of civic goodwill and trust. We also talked about glider piloting, fishing with Henry Winkler, setting up innovative school programs, Annie Besant and much more. We did not talk about the Shoeless Joe Jackson and Black Sox scandal of 1919, the Haber-Bosch method nor lost metallurgic technologies of the Bronze Age.

With Mulberry's 24 tape series I was able to learn to overcome some of my biggest life challenges   - everything from podcast recording to 19th century exorcisms.  5 yrs ago I was nobody.  And with Ranken mulberry's 15 steps to effective thinking and power,  I'm now a podcast writer/producer/host and exorcism guru.     Welcome to this weeks episode of tag paid go.  After a long pause, I've returned with a new and improved format.  No don't worry, all of your favorite elements of old will still be here but with a new twist.  Take for instance sponsors.  Gone are the days where any old sponsor could come in and just give us money. No. Now I have a vetting process that lets quality sponsors shine.  Take for instance the Atlas Sunday News.  They promote a Sunday news morning show that is full of misinformation about about 70s television sitcoms.  Namely Happy Days and the character Ralph Malph.  I won't get into the gory details but I certainly will not promote the channel 18 NEWS program that comes on every Sunday at 10am. No. Not on this podcast.     I wanna bring back a segment I used to enjoy. It's called “my fondest memory if that song”. Yep. Still keeping that name. In case you don't remember the segment details why a certain song is my favorite.  The song I'm referring to is Xanadu by Olivia Newton john.  You see, back in my younger days, a friend of mine(who will remain namesless Kevin) and I went to get some burgers from a fast food burger place that will remain nameless, burger king.  He was driving. We made our order. Pulled around to pay. The car in front just got their order at the window ahead.  After receiving their food, they spun off like a bat out of hell which shot gravel and rocks all over my friends windshield.  Angered, my friend shifted into gear and drove off after them. For whatever reason they drove around the drive thru again.  Then again with us right behind.  It reminded me of a bugs bunny cartoon. I finally convinced my friend to stop and by our third time around the restaurant we went to pick up our order. And wouldn't you know it, the kind yet confused, worker, got us our order. Just as though nothing happened.  The culprits that shot the rocks had sped off down the street never to be seen again. My friend was still pretty amped up and the drive home proved that. Lots of immediate stop and go's.  At one stop my bag of food hit the car floor. I picked it up but at the same time found a tape buried under the seat(yes we listened to cassettes in the late 1900s.  Looked like some random mix tape - I grabbed it and put it in his car tape deck.  The next thing I hear are the soothing voice of a one Olivia Newton John backed by the triumphant Electric Light Orchestra.  It was Xanadu. And just like that my friend went from Speed Racer to driving miss daisy.  Luckily we made it home before the next song came on.  That song was Ozzy Osborne's Bark At The Moon. That's another story for another time.  Thanks Olivia Newton John for getting me home safely!     And now it's time to show off one of MY songs.  A children's Halloween song I wrote just for this episode.  Sit back with a pumpkin flavored RC cola and enjoy.  This ones called Spooky Ghost.    Well that does it for this weeks episode of tag paid go. I want to thank this weeks sponsor.  The Golden Sun Power Brick.  Need back up power to charge your phone or to keep your full scale humanoid intelligent robot powered up?  Look no further than The Golden Sun Power Brick.  With 2 months of backup energy powered by the sun,  your house will be fully charged and your fully functioning, lifelike humanoid robot will be powered up to keep it clean.  Poles are for dancers and wires are for for spies.  Get a Golden Sun Power Brick today!   I'd also like to give a huge thank you to everyone who has stayed with this podcast.  Thanks for the well wishes and shares.   Subscribe to the newsletter at news.tagpaidgo.com Everyone stay safe.  Take care of each other  Till next time  Tag. Days don't get much happier than spending them in Donny Most's good company. What fun this was! Don ran the gamut from how he got to be Ralph Malph on Happy Days, not the role he auditioned for, turning it down, and getting a persuasive bump from Garry Marshall; backtracked to The Jolson Story and how it changed his life. His training and launch with a Borscht Belt revue, which crazily I saw, his sleepaway camp best friend who a few years later became my longtime boyfriend… more Happy Days––the show which became family, and a traveling softball team, his relationships with each of his costars, close encounters with his baseball hero, and his singing and acting idols; becoming a director, theatre, and finding his way back to his original passion, singing standards, recording Mostly Swinging and performing in venues around the map. In LA, you can catch Donny (I can't help it!) at Catalina Jazz Club, on Saturday. August 14th. Stick around after the show for a warm, friendly, hello. I trust he'll be happy to sign a CD, too. Not sure I know anyone nicer. Donny previewed his current and upcoming projects, 8 of them! What pandemic?!? From Pastor to Polygamist, the roles are widely varied. Playing an iconic television character for multiple seasons makes an actor and their alter ego a house hold name and part of mainstream society, usually with a loyal and obsessive cult following. But with such success and fame, comes the curse of an actor often not being able to break from being known only as the character they so brilliantly created for so many years. Don Most, who played Ralph Malph on Happy Days, explains to America's Podcaster, Kurt Caceres, what actors need to do to reinvent themselves and continue their career long after their character and hit show disappears into the archives of our memories. He tells us that no longer can actors just be one dimensional, they need to continue to perform in live theater, become writers, direct their own films, do voice over work and even have a music career. Don has done it all and continues to prove to himself and Hollywood that he was more than just a one hit wonder. He is a multi-faceted talent that can do it all, and he clues us in on how to make that happen for yourself. How to keep your sanity. To keep the course. Focus on the long term, not the superficial short term setbacks.XXPlease Follow and Subscribe to the Podcast. Most(no pun intended) have heard the term "Jump the Shark", but so few know from where it originated. America's Podcaster, Kurt Caceres, introduces us to its birth on the legendary television show, Happy Days. Little does he know that his guest, Don Most, who played Ralph Malph on the series, is the first to have coined the term before they even shot the episode. According to Ron Howard, after they did the first reading of this now famous episode, Don pulled him aside and said in horror, "He jumps a Shark?". The rest is history, and Don shares with us the audition process that landed him one of the most iconic television characters in modern era Hollywood. Ironically, he originally turned down the role, but his agent just so happened to play basketball with Garry Marshall and Don's life would change forever. Donny Most still swings the GASB for the blue-haired ladies, but in the early 70's, he was the acerbic, somewhat amoral Ralph Malph on the spin-off machine Happy Days, a show that started as a segment of Love American Style in 1972. So it, itself, was a spin-off.  On February 25, 1972, the show aired an episode with a segment titled "Love and the Television Set", a story about Richie Cunningham, his family, and friends. The premise and characters would later be used for the television series Happy Days, and the episode would later be recognized as a de facto pilot for the series (it had originally been produced as a pilot for New Family in Town, which had not been picked up). For syndication, the segment was retitled "Love and the Happy Days". Happy Days, in turn, launched an extensive franchise of spinoffs into the 1980s.  And that's why we have the dance known as "The Fonzie". Thank you, Love American Style. Still waiting for those Season 2 DVDs.  By the way, Happy Days is the reason Julie Pawlowski cut off our conversation when I asked her to see the Stones at Rich Stadium in 1975. It had to be a Tuesday. Fuck you, Happy Days! YOU'RE the reason I wet the bed until I was 25.    Donny Most - Rock Is Dead (1976) UA was the same label that released Electric Light Orchestra's Eldorado album. Which to push? This posture reminds me of my old friend Dave Pandolfi.  Donny Most - One of These Days (1976) Written by Barry Manilow, the b-side of "It's A Miracle". Donny Most - Blue-Finger Lou (1976) Bill Bixby and Brandon Cruz  - Daddy What If (1971) POACA will recall Bill Bixby as TV's The Incredible Hulk.  Bobby Bare and Bobby Bare Jr. - Daddy What If (fake audience) (1974) Chuck Berry - Louis to San Francisco/Ma Dear (1968) Elvis Presley - Raised On Rock (1973) Elvis Presley - Way Down (1976) D.A. - Ready ’n’ Steady (1979) "Ready 'n' Steady" is a song written by D. A. Lucchesi and Jim Franks, and performed by the group D. A. The song appeared on Billboard magazine's Bubbling Under the Hot 100 chart for three weeks in June 1979; however, for many years, neither the record nor any information about it or the artist could be found. This led many collectors to label "Ready 'n' Steady" a "phantom record" that did not exist at all until a recording surfaced in 2016 and its artist (by this point deceased) was identified. Frank Zappa - Andy (Live) (1980) Frank Zappa - 13 (Live) (1980) Ted Cassidy - The Lurch (1965) John Astin - Wallflower Pete (1965) B-side to "Querida Mia".  Moody Blues - Had To Fall In Love (1978) Blue Jays - This Morning (1975) Neil MacArthur (Colin Blunstone of The Zombies) - She’s Not There (1969) Colin Blunstone- I Don’t Believe In Miracles (1972) Colin Blunstone - Say You Don’t Mind (1972) Denny Laine - Say You Don't Mind (1967) Moody Blues - Boulevard De La Madeleine (1966) Balls - Fight For My Country (1970) L-r: Trevor Burton, originally of The Move (which was that great Birmingham band that preceded Electric Light Orchestra), Alan White (who played in Plastic Ono Band, and later, Yes) and Denny Laine (who played in The Moody Blues, and later, Wings.) At age twenty, Don Most catapulted into the American zeitgeist when he won the role of Ralph Malph on the television pilot Happy Days. The role was originally a stock jock character. Director Jerry Paris and Executive Producer Garry Marshall were so charmed by Don’s charisma and natural comedic timing they reworked the part and transformed Ralph Malph into the beloved class comedian that won the hearts of America. In the two decades following the success of Happy Days, Don continued to act. His film credits include EDtv, Crazy Mama, The Yankles, and The Great Buck Howard, starring John Malkovich. TV roles include a recurring role in Glee, Men Of A Certain Age, Star Trek: Voyager, Sliders, Yes, Dear, The Crow, Sabrina, CHiPs, Baywatch, The Love Boat, Diagnosis: Murder, Century City, Dark Skies, and The Family Guy. Throughout his storied career Don Most’s dream of returning to his early musical days never wavered. Inspired by his love of swing, jazz and big band music, he created the musical revue Donny Most Sings and Swings. The show debuted in Los Angeles at Catalina’s Jazz Club in Hollywood, and Vitello’s Jazz Club in Studio City to great acclaim. Don’s act showcases his love of the great standards, and covers the likes of Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, and his favorite, Bobby Darin. Don Most married actress Morgan Hart in 1982 after meeting on the set of Happy Days. They have two daughters, Madison and Mackenzie, and live in Los Angeles, California.
