Australian agronomist Tony Rinaudo's reforestation project in Niger was failing – with 80% of his planted saplings dying – until he stumbled upon a simple solution in plain sight: stumps of previously cut trees trying to regrow in the dry, deforested landscape. The degraded land contained numerous such stumps with intact root systems, plus millions of tree seeds hidden in the soil, which farmers could encourage to grow and reforest the landscape, something he refers to as 'an invisible forest in plain view.' Today, the technique known as Farmer Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR) is responsible for reforesting six million hectares in Niger alone. Rinaudo speaks with Rachel Donald on Mongabay's podcast about his journey implementing this technique and its massive potential to help tackle biodiversity loss and food insecurity through resilient agroforestry systems. Wondering if you are too early in your career to start a private practice? You aren't! In this episode of Private Practice Success Stories, I sat down with one of my students, Luisa Rinaudo, to talk about how she suffered from early career burnout and made the leap to private practice. Now Luisa is working less, making more, and seeing the clients she is truly passionate about on her own terms. Luisa Rinaudo is the owner of The Therapy Garden, LLC. Her passion for educating and instructing individuals, especially those in the neuro-divergent community has always been a driving force in her personal and professional life. She is the lucky older sister to two siblings, one of which was born with Down syndrome-a superpower as she likes to say! Her brother has given her countless opportunities to find her potential and when she was ready to decide on a career, this is where she landed. She pursued her Bachelor's degree in early elementary education and special education at Seton Hall University from 2015-2019. After completing her undergraduate studies, she went on to obtain her Master's degree in speech-language pathology from 2019-2021, also from Seton Hall University. Since then, she has been working as a speech-language pathologist in Monmouth County, NJ, serving both pediatric and the adult populations. She has always wanted to have her own practice and was one of those people who thought it should happen once she was more experienced in her field, but with some words of encouragement she told herself "What better time to do it than now?!"While she loves and continues to work with the pediatric population, she has seen the lack of programming out there for adults in this community and she wants to be a part of that change. She wants to give her brother and individuals of all abilities a place where they feel welcome, heard, and accepted. Right now, she has a very small office, but until she is able to provide a bigger space she hopes that she can be a person of comfort and connection with her clients. In Today's Episode, We Discuss:The clients that Luisa serves in her private practiceWhen Luisa decided to start her own private practiceThe risk of reaching career burnoutHow the Start program helped Luisa get goingHow to know when it's time to go all in on your private practiceWhat a typical day in Luisa's life as a private practice owner looks likeThe flexibility you can get as a private practice ownerHow Luisa was able to get a physical office spaceThe community-based services Luisa offersI hope you enjoyed this episode with Luisa! What's up y'all? The guys are back in the studio with a very fun interview for you all featuring a good friend of the show, offensive coordinator of the Boys Latin Lakers, Anthony Rinaudo (@CoachRinaudo). Anthony has been on the scene as an assistant coach at the college and (currently) high school levels of football for almost a decade at this point and has seen enough to the point that he always has some great perspective and stories to share. With his camp and preseason ramping up, we decided now would be a good time to check in with him and see what the state of high school football in Maryland is like today, and what it's like for someone like him on a day to day basis. Ant brings a level of humor, energy, and passion for football that we've come to love, and we're sure you guys will too. Enjoy, and we'll talk to you again later in the week. Learning on the job Third decade, from 5 clients to 70 clients, streaming over the internet and social media, nearly 500 people First Olympic streaming website for NBC at the Beijing Olympics 2008 – great success London 2012 – first proper digital Olympics – again involved at a major level Starting to develop “Products” for broader range of clients with smaller budget (changing from Service to Product culture) New Broadcasters clients, still focused on Europe and a few around the world Growth funded internally until 2008, looking for growth beyond organic, Italian investor came in and Deltatre saved them during the subsequent global crisis 2016 Bruins Sports Capital (BSC), buys 75%, 25% still held by management – big growth in the US through BSC strong network First new client(s) in the US, NFL Game Pass, then MLB, MLS OTT growth, now 50% of the business – broadcast clients Acquisition of Massive Interactive – combining their product culture with Deltatre service culture OTT – discussion about the evolution, the opportunities and challenge with monetization Partnerships with Rights Holders, example with DFL (Bundesliga) and Sportec Solutions Beyond sports, a look at entertainment, Gaming & Esports Deltatre and Covid – effects on company & “one company” system & the “new normal” office culture Look into the future of Deltatre – continued two digit growth, acquisition, etc About Giampiero Rinaudo “When I was young, I wanted to be a timekeeper for alpine skiing,” says Deltatre's Group CEO, Giampiero. Fascinated by sports, and growing up near Turin, Italy, within easy reach of mountains, it wouldn't have been an unrealistic goal. But Giampiero, known as Gipi, would follow a related, but different, tact. After completing his Computer Science studies at the University of Turin, he took his career dream as a starting point and supercharged it. Setting up Deltatre with two partners in 1986, he combined his interests in technology and sport to produce better fan experiences across the world – an ambition which began with creating ways to record times and other sports data more accurately. “I was a lover of computers and data and I loved sports, so I thought ‘what better than setting up Deltatre?' Computers and sports were my passions,” he says. When he set up the company aged just 27, Deltatre was unsurprisingly a very different place to today. An early project involved developing software to provide more accurate timekeeping for Formula 1, with the company installing transponders within cars to ensure lap times could be measured accurately – a tactic still used to this day. Personal computers were in their infancy, meaning heavy equipment would often be carted to games. “They did the tasks we were doing at that time like record timings and inform about results,” he says. “Now we've moved in a completely different direction.” Gipi could never have foreseen the incredible growth that Deltatre would encounter. From its humble beginnings as a team of just three, to more than 1,000 technologists, designers, and thought-leaders today in 19 offices across the globe. Now a silent partner powering many of the world's most-watched events, including FIFA World Cups, UEFA Champions Leagues, ATP Tennis Tournaments, and NFL Super Bowls – to name just a few. Disruption has remained constant over the past three decades – and Gipi and employees have evolved with it rather than fervently clung on to techniques of the past. With the recent acquisition of software company Massive Interactive, which specialises in the entertainment OTT space, this has never been more true. “When I look back every year, the company is never the same as the year before; it's a constant transformation,” he says. As well as the continued growth of the company, he believes one of his biggest achievements is the culture fostered at Deltatre. “It's a very informal environment and my door is always open,” he says. And how does he want others in the company to view him? “Honest and loyal,” he says, “which I believe are also important sport values.” Outside of work, he enjoys alpine skiing, swimming, and hiking.
Some call him the “tree whisperer.” Tony Rinaudo is, in fact, World Vision Australia’s tree maker. He’s a missionary and agronomist engaged in a 30-year effort to share Jesus by combating deforestation across Africa’s Sahel, south of the Sahara. Realizing stunted “shrubs” were actually dormant trees, Rinaudo started pruning, tending, and watering them. His work inspired hundreds of thousands of farmers to save their failing farms by restoring nearby forests, reversing soil erosion. Farmers in Niger, for example, have doubled their crops and their income, providing food for an additional 2.5 million people per year. In John 15, Jesus the creator of agriculture, referred to similar farming tactics when He said, “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in my that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful” (vv. 1–2). Without the daily tending of God, our souls grow barren and dry. When we delight in the law of the Lord, however, meditating on it day and night, we are “like a tree planted by streams of water” (Psalm 1:3). Our leaves will “not wither” and “whatever [we] do will prosper” (v. 3). Pruned and planted in Him, we’re evergreen—revived and thriving.

Our guest, William Rinaudo Phillips (Bill), is the Father of entrepreneur Keller Rinaudo who is the CEO & Co-Founder of an innovative company called Zipline. Zipline uses autonomous drones to deliver medical products to some of the most difficult places to reach on the planet. They’ve made >40,000 deliveries, many of which were in life-saving situations. Zipline began operations in Rwanda and has since expanded to other countries (including, as of this year, the USA). Bill is an encouraging father. He encouraged his two kids to try new things, to think independently, and to take smart risks. Bill delves into these topics and several others on this episode of Fathering Excellence. If you've never heard of Deltatre, and you're a sports fan, you've almost certainly seen their work, whether in the form of statistics, graphics, some of the world's top sports websites and mobile applications, or in the burgeoning OTT market for streaming live sports. Historically, the Turin-based TV technology company has been involved behind the scenes in some of sport's greatest events, from Olympic Games to Fifa World Cups. In our latest episode of the Business of Sport Podcast with the International Sports Convention, Callum Murray's guest is Giampero Rinaudo, Deltatre's chief executive and co-founder. In this episode, we look at sports broadcasting after the lockdown and ask Giampiero: ‘How will the way the industry delivers sport and the way we watch it have changed?' Founded 34 years ago, “not before the internet, but before the PC,” as Rinaudo puts it, Deltatre has grown up alongside the sports broadcasting industry, often pioneering the changes that have conditioned the way we watch sport on TV. With 50 per cent of its workload now deriving from the OTT industry, its workforce is now over 1,000 strong, based at its HQ in Turin, in London and in other centres across the world. Since Bruin Sports Capital, the US sports investment group, took a 75-per-cent stake in the company in 2015, that workload is increasingly focused on US sports – all four of the US major leagues are Deltatre clients. Notably, the company is responsible for handling technical delivery worldwide of NFL Game Pass, the league's international OTT service, as well as delivering the websites of all 32 of the NFL's teams. In December, Bruin also acquired Two Circles, the UK-based data-driven marketing agency, opening up new opportunities for Deltatre to use data to interact with TV viewers. “We are going to become more and more a data-led platform to collect and understand the behaviour of the users,” says Rinaudo. Deltatre is also helped in this ambition by the recent launch of its own data-driven, real-time platform mtribes. Using mtribes, Deltatre is able to analyse viewers' habits to discover that, for example, a viewer is interested in certain players, or only wants to watch highlights. This enables Deltatre to ‘personalise' a digital offer. “I can show you something that is different from what I show to somebody else, because I know that you like this particular content. And all this is done in real time,” says Rinaudo. One remaining sports media sector in which Deltatre is not yet involved is e-Sports, and Rinaudo says that the company is seeking to find a role and to invest in this area. “I've been watching some Formula 1 virtual races,” he adds, “and they are fun. That's something that will continue to grow in the future. This is something where Deltatre should have a major role.” As for his management style, Rinaudo's policy is unchanged, despite the growth of the company from its three founders to its present scale. “I tend to delegate,” he says. “My motto is that for any specific task, there is always somebody better than me. I think I'm good at choosing, maintaining and orchestrating a strong management group.”
Kevin Van Trump and Andy Daniels have legendary grain trader, Tommy “Carp” Rinaudo, as a guest on the show to talk about worries about the economy, a few bright spots of opportunity, COVID-19 updates, and commodity strategies as we move forward.

Dr. Carlo Rinaudo, DC Phd (cand)talks to Dr. Justin Trosclair DC on A Doctor's Perspective Podcast Vestibular, ocular, autonomic and dizziness issues, exam findings and rehab with Carlo Rinaudo DC PhD (cand). Managing spinal and MSK conditions with chiropractic and how vestibular rehab affects the nervous system, plus we talk about neuroConnect. I didn't know this but in Australia the term Dr is reserved for medical doctors and all others, even Phd's have to clarify behind their name what type of doctor you are. Also, you can't just say chiropractic can help headaches and low back pain without having research cited on your website to back up your claims. If you don't the regulatory board is quick to fine you and require changes. We discuss some more of those type of nuisances today. He started out being fascinated by AK and soon realized that most techniques get results and it's because of neurology. Is it necessary, clinically, to become a diplomate in neurology (2 year program)? How much of this advanced neurology can actually be used in practice and how much can be used to build referrals from neurologists? Functional Neurology or Chiropractic Neurology are terms that in Australia will get your license revoked ‘in minutes' and drag you through the coals. Some chiropractic techniques are starting to incorporate neurology theories as to how they work but is it cherry picked research? Why would the chiropractic profession benefit from having the research conducted to be scrutinized by other non chiropractic Phd experts? Dr. Rinaudo is in the faculty of biomechanical engineering at a university that doesn't have to do with chiropractic. The brain and neuro is a window into seeing how the rest of the body is functioning. The vestibular and ocular system starts when we are so young and connects the autonomic nervous system, balance, cognitive and body awareness system which influences how our spine functions. PhD clinical trial on a new vestibular rehabilitation technique: Gait, balance, proprioception, eye movement exercises. He is not advocating to abandon the adjustment nor is he saying all things can be remedied by the adjustment. Dr. Carlo runs though a mock patient exam with proper questions for vestibular, ocular, vertigo or dizziness symptoms and offers a few pointers for treatment and exercises. Especially this is relevant for whiplash injuries because the three little ear bones, otolith or otoconia, and the crystals can be injured causing dizziness and vertigo. Dysfunction of the neck changes the signaling and coding to the brain stem. It can alter our eye movement, higher cortical function, balance and more. It's not a cookbook approach in his 4 module NeuroConnect program. Each case will present unique dysfunction and you will tailor a multitude of options for their individual needs. Many of the exercises will function on balance, eye function, proprioception training, inner ear and cerebellum. He goes through a synopsis of the 4 modules near the mid-end of the episode and I think it will get you excited to visit the website to learn more. For instance: why is that some patients seem to plateau, maybe we hit their metabolic capacity of their autonomic nervous system to heal until you get to a more root cause. How to explain all this neuro stuff so a patient can understand it. Family: If you go to seminars, take your family. “If we have instant delivery for our burgers,” says Zipline CEO and co-founder Keller Rinaudo, “we should have it for our medicine.” So while some people debate whether drone delivery for burritos, beers, and books is a marketing gimmick, one of the most important kinds -- urgent delivery of urgent healthcare -- is happening right now through Zipline's delivering blood and vaccines to patients and hospitals in Rwanda. The peace dividend of the smartphone (and electric vehicle) wars has yielded components and cost dynamics that make all this possible. But more importantly, the economics -- bypassing motorcycles and going 20x as fast -- are actually profitable, as drones can help leapfrog existing (or lacking) road infrastructure. "It's trade, not aid" ... especially as this approach also builds out commercial infrastructure in Africa. In this episode of the a16z Podcast (in conversation with Chris Dixon and recorded at our recent inaugural a16z Summit), Rinaudo and UPS' Vice President of Healthcare Strategy John Menna discuss using drones to leapfrog infrastructure, and save lives by doing it in less than 15 minutes. But how are regulation and locals responding? What does the trend towards “light and fast” logistics -- based on smaller inventory in a number of controlled-environment yet centrally managed locations -- look like? And finally, how can drones for healthcare delivery further the trend of personalized medicine? The views expressed here are those of the individual AH Capital Management, L.L.C.
