Did you know that ADHD is meant to be a diagnosis of exclusion? This means other potential causes should be considered before confirming ADHD. Surprisingly, conditions like concussions can show similar symptoms and are often misdiagnosed as ADHD. In this episode of the Soaring Child podcast, Dr. Spencer Zimmerman joins the show to discuss how concussions in kids are frequently mistaken for ADHD and what signs to look for. Dr. Zimmerman is a Clinician and Founder at Idaho Brain and Body Institute, where he helps individuals struggling with neurological, psychological, and body-based symptoms and conditions. He's refined his unique method over the past 10 years and has worked with over 2,000 patients. He's the author of the best selling book Brain-Reset: 7 Steps to a Healthier Brain. He's been on ABC, CBS, and Daily Flash talking about brain health. He's uniquely cross trained as both a Chiropractor and Nurse Practitioner. He's a Diplomate in Chiropractic Neurology, a Peptide Certified Provider through A4M, and has extensive training in Functional Medicine and Functional Immunology. But let's not forget also that there can be other things that can cause ADHD-like symptoms.” ”When you get a diagnosis, you've got to say, ‘Is there a better explanation for it?' So don't ever give a kid an ADHD diagnosis unless you've said, ‘We've looked at the other things that would better explain these symptoms, and concussions are things that are routinely missed.” ”It's actually upwards of 20% of kids who play contact sports will suffer a concussion each and every year, and 50% are never going to be diagnosed or evaluated… ”The goal is not to prevent them from playing sports. The goal is to say, ‘How can we play sports safely and then when is the right time to return because your functionality is back where it should be?'” ”You shouldn't be making a concussion diagnosis based purely on symptoms.” ”If you're suspecting a concussion, you won't see it on imaging. You have to do these detailed tests.” ”If you have a concussion, your risk of a lower extremity injury or any injury in a sport actually goes up the next 2 years...But if you get the concussion truly recovered and not just symptom-free, you're going to minimize that risk.” ”Females have a greater risk for concussions.” ”Strengthen your neck because that way, if you do, you've got more resilience.” How to Connect with Dr. Spencer Zimmerman Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drspencerzimmerman/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DrSpencerZimmerman Website: https://www.drspencerzimmerman.com/ Dana Kay Resources:

As a young boy, Dr. Singer always knew he wanted to touch the lives of others and be able to look back upon his life and know that he made a difference! Dr. Singer was always drawn to the healing arts, seeking out the true power of the brain, heart, and energy system of the body. When these systems are working together health is maintained easily and powerfully. He was always fascinated by the "spontaneous healings" people would talk about when all pharmacological approaches were useless, the person went within themselves and healed!!! This fueled his passion for Holistic Medicine and natural healing. As a medium himself, he has been studying from the greatest Holistic doctors, Healers, Naturopaths, Bodyworkers, and Energy Medicine Practitioners for over two decades uncovering the most powerful ancient healing secrets and incorporating them into his practice. Dr. Singer takes no shortcuts, never treating the symptoms, and always allowing the patient's body to guide him in uncovering the true cause of the ailment. He also completed an intense two-year Chiropractic Neurology program which fostered his brain-based rehabilitation and biomechanical approach toward understanding how the brain detects viral and pathogenic strains, infections, immune stressors, hormone-related issues, and digestive problems. Dr. Singer is one of only 200 doctors in the world licensed as a Holistic chiropractor who specializes in Holistic Medicine. His studies and methods integrate homeopathy, designed clinical nutrition, applied kinesiology, organ and skin detoxification, bacteria, parasite, fungus, and viruses, flu, and fever elimination, infant, toddler, and adolescent well-care, acute and chronic illness rehabilitation, and emotional release techniques. He also utilizes the most advanced technology in the world, your human body, to restore health and well-being. Recently, Dr. Singer became an expert in Enzyme Therapy and digestive healing which unlocks the doors to so many mystery illnesses. His main goal is to serve his patients, and listen to their needs, concerns, and goals thus fostering a doctor-patient relationship that will last a lifetime. Dr. Singer's goal is to return health care to the way it used to be when the patient was the absolute focus and not insurance. His mission is to uncover the cause of your symptoms, not mask them. His purpose is to present a solution to your health crisis and offer a holistic approach that will help your body heal quickly and restore the inner power of your body that has been suppressed for so many years.

This week on the High Wire Woman podcast, Rosanna Berardi is emphasizing taking charge of your health. Her guest, Dr. Melissa Wenrich, is a women's healthcare practitioner based in Nashville, Tennessee. Melissa is a certified chiropractic neurologist, and she has been a diplomat with the American Board of Chiropractic Neurology since 2016. In this week's episode, Melissa shares insights on the health issues working women encounter, as well as tips on how to improve your health to live a fulfilled life. You'll hear Rosanna and Melissa talk about: How Melissa started in chiropractic. Patients nowadays want immediate reprieve of their ailments. "We're in this mentality of ‘I don't have time to get to the root cause of this'," Melissa says. Medical companies fund research on medical issues, and as research increases, treatments for patients improve. Getting to the root cause means healing you, Melissa remarks. She advocated looking at the complete picture of patients' medical history and taking a layered approach to better understand the type of care they need. Gut health helps combat hormonal issues, so you need to have the proper nutrients to make the hormones in your body. Your hormones are your body signals. Regulating your blood sugar and improving your gut health is vital. When all your body systems are functioning in harmony, good health is the result, and you have a higher chance of achieving your goals. Melissa tells Rosanna where High Wire Women can access her services. Taking care of your body is taking care of your life. Treat yourself with the same care and love you do your tasks and you will be able to accomplish them better, and you will be healthier for it too. Why do silos show up so much in healthcare? Aren't they meant for holding grain on farms?? Today we talk with Dr. Taylor Eaves who teaches us all about chiropractic neurology. This specialty looks at the whole person; the physical, the physiologic, and the cognitive to see how each system is affecting the other and creating a problem. They use this information to create a plan that addresses your individualized needs. Treatments are multimodal using a wide combination of therapies to get you back from your brain injury. This is not your traditional crack your back and send you on your way. If you're looking for someone willing to consider how all your systems work together (rather than looking at each individually), a chiropractic neurologist may be for you! In this episode: What is chiropractic neurology? Ties the physiology, mental, and physical aspects of recovery together They typically see chronic conditions or symptoms post concussion or brain injury What makes chiropractic neurology different? They test the eyes, cognition, and balance; do brain mapping, and combine the many findings into what your brain and body are outputting. Can these outputs be changed? What are the deficiencies? They use this information to make an individualized treatment plan. Chiropractic neurologists look at all the components together rather than in a silo Don't accept an answer of “this is as good as it gets; there's nothing we can do.” There's likely more to be done Brain injuries disrupt the connections (axons) between nerves. Your brain will compensate but these compensations do not always lead to smooth function. The goal of chiropractic neurology is to find the area of initial trauma and the compensations the body/brain has made for that and treat it all to make the body work as efficiently as possible Types of treatments offered: neurofeedback, physical therapy, neurofacilitation, hyperbarics, context specific exercises (training that mimics the goal activity) It is not a crack to the spine and send you on your way! More on hyperbaric chambers: provides oxygen to promote healing Metabolic and autonomic function Brain injured patients can have trouble regulating automatic functions in the body. Dr. Eaves tracks the heart rate responses (metabolic activity) while challenging a patient to see where their metabolic and autonomic thresholds are. Not pushing beyond a threshold prevents a patient from crashing--have to work within the boundaries to improve them Do I need a chiropractic neurologist? Some things they treat (not all inclusive, they see most anything!): Dizziness, balance issues, severe fatigue, ongoing symptoms, strokes (should try to see as early as possible), headache, post concussive syndrome Dr. Eaves recommends a care team of functional medicine, physical therapy, and chiropractic neurology to provide a holistic approach to brain healing Age is not a limiting factor! Any age can be helped with chiropractic neurology Links to any resources mentioned How to find chiropractic neurologists: Visit the American Board of Chiropractic Neurology website https://www.acnb.org/ (https://www.acnb.org/) --doctor finder tab, this shows diplomate level practitioners meaning they have had 300 hours + of specialized training Find Dr. Eaves on Instagram: @dr.e_neurochiro The Southwest Brain Performance Centers: https://swbrainpc.com/ (https://swbrainpc.com/) HELP US SPREAD THE WORD! They never give up. Their collective wisdom and deep toolbox of knowledge and skill make them quite unique. They address so many issues that other doctors have no way to approach. We, as humans, are complex, energetic life forms. Nothing happens in a vacuum. Trauma or injury affect us on so many levels. I have been "peeling the onion" of my symptoms for my entire adult life. And my journey is not yet complete. Working with the Longyears, I am a person - not a set of symptoms. I don't fit within any standard of care. They treat me with compassion and continue to move us along this path to finding resolution for my pain, inflammation and structural issues. — Leslie G.

Dr. Carlo Rinaudo, DC Phd (cand)talks to Dr. Justin Trosclair DC on A Doctor's Perspective Podcast Vestibular, ocular, autonomic and dizziness issues, exam findings and rehab with Carlo Rinaudo DC PhD (cand). Managing spinal and MSK conditions with chiropractic and how vestibular rehab affects the nervous system, plus we talk about neuroConnect. I didn't know this but in Australia the term Dr is reserved for medical doctors and all others, even Phd's have to clarify behind their name what type of doctor you are. Also, you can't just say chiropractic can help headaches and low back pain without having research cited on your website to back up your claims. If you don't the regulatory board is quick to fine you and require changes. We discuss some more of those type of nuisances today. He started out being fascinated by AK and soon realized that most techniques get results and it's because of neurology. Is it necessary, clinically, to become a diplomate in neurology (2 year program)? How much of this advanced neurology can actually be used in practice and how much can be used to build referrals from neurologists? Functional Neurology or Chiropractic Neurology are terms that in Australia will get your license revoked ‘in minutes' and drag you through the coals. Some chiropractic techniques are starting to incorporate neurology theories as to how they work but is it cherry picked research? Why would the chiropractic profession benefit from having the research conducted to be scrutinized by other non chiropractic Phd experts? Dr. Rinaudo is in the faculty of biomechanical engineering at a university that doesn't have to do with chiropractic. The brain and neuro is a window into seeing how the rest of the body is functioning. The vestibular and ocular system starts when we are so young and connects the autonomic nervous system, balance, cognitive and body awareness system which influences how our spine functions. PhD clinical trial on a new vestibular rehabilitation technique: Gait, balance, proprioception, eye movement exercises. He is not advocating to abandon the adjustment nor is he saying all things can be remedied by the adjustment. Dr. Carlo runs though a mock patient exam with proper questions for vestibular, ocular, vertigo or dizziness symptoms and offers a few pointers for treatment and exercises. Especially this is relevant for whiplash injuries because the three little ear bones, otolith or otoconia, and the crystals can be injured causing dizziness and vertigo. Dysfunction of the neck changes the signaling and coding to the brain stem. It can alter our eye movement, higher cortical function, balance and more. It's not a cookbook approach in his 4 module NeuroConnect program. Each case will present unique dysfunction and you will tailor a multitude of options for their individual needs. Many of the exercises will function on balance, eye function, proprioception training, inner ear and cerebellum. He goes through a synopsis of the 4 modules near the mid-end of the episode and I think it will get you excited to visit the website to learn more. For instance: why is that some patients seem to plateau, maybe we hit their metabolic capacity of their autonomic nervous system to heal until you get to a more root cause. How to explain all this neuro stuff so a patient can understand it. Family: If you go to seminars, take your family. Books: John Demartini - role chiropractors play in dizziness and poor balance conditions - the benefit of chiropractic on the brain? - a brain based approach to managing spinal and MSK conditions - are spinal dysfunctions the result of a local or brain-based problem Carlo Rinaudo of Sydney, Australia has a neurology diplomate via the Carrick Instutite back in 05-06 and is now a PhD (cand) in Vestibular Rehabilitation (neuroscience) at UNSW and Neuroscience Research Australia (NeuRA) in collaboration with

Functional Neurology looks at the underlying functioning of the nervous system. While allopathic neurology can diagnose gross pathology such as a stroke or traumatic brain injury: functional neurology can pinpoint functioning of specific parts of the brain. Such studies include studies with the eyes (saccades (rapid movements from point to point), pupil reflexes) and other neurological assessments. Brain imbalances can be identified long before the pathology points to a specific diagnosis. Once brain imbalances are identified, individualized treatment plans can be prepared to reverse the damages. Periodic assessments can track the improved status of brain in response to treatment. The causes of such brain imbalances can be many such as toxins, infectious process such as lyme disease, metabolic disorders such as blood sugar irregularities and hormone imbalances. It is important to seek and treat the underlying cause as well.
