Tony Overbay, LMFT, discusses the misuse of self-help and philosophical principles by the narcissist and the emotionally immature. Tony uses Stoicism and the teachings of Marcus Aurelius, Epictetus, and Seneca as a backdrop to show how seemingly safe topics like self-care, hobbies, and reasons to focus on the here and now can be weaponized and used as manipulation tactics by the emotionally immature and those who exhibit strong narcissistic traits and tendencies. Tony also provides examples of addressing these misinterpretations and outlines the importance of personal growth, self-reflection, and accepting one's imperfections to achieve a healthier mindset and better relationships. 00:00 Introduction and Welcome 00:20 The Importance of Newsletters and Updates 00:39 Exploring Narcissistic Traits and Self-Help Books 01:42 The Power of Self-Reflection and Emotional Maturity 02:48 The Misuse of Self-Help Tools and Philosophies 03:24 The Dangers of Misinterpreting Therapeutic Advice 04:24 Exploring the Interactions of Narcissistic Traits with Philosophies 04:36 The Role of Stoicism in Self-Improvement 05:04 The Fine Line Between Self-Improvement and Weaponizing Teachings 06:15 The Power of Self-Confrontation and Growth 07:57 The Concept of Muse in Personal Growth 08:26 The Importance of Listening and Self-Improvement 14:15 The Role of Stoicism in Personal Growth 25:13 Embracing Imperfections and Learning from Mistakes 26:02 The Story of Epictetus and His Teachings 27:23 Applying Stoic Philosophy in Real Life: Chris and Morgan's Dance Lessons 28:48 The Dangers of Weaponizing Stoic Philosophy 31:16 The Wisdom of Marcus Aurelius and Letting Go of Unnecessary Opinions 39:35 Applying Marcus Aurelius' Advice in Relationships: Jordan and Alex's Story 41:58 Understanding and Navigating Emotional Immaturity and Narcissism 44:55 Final Thoughts and Encouragement for Personal Growth Find all the latest links to podcasts, courses, Tony's newsletter, and more at https://linktr.ee/virtualcouch And follow Tony on the Virtual Couch YouTube channel for a sneak preview of his upcoming podcast "Murder on the Couch," where True Crime meets therapy, co-hosted with his daughter Sydney. We think a lot about working out our bodies, but how often do we consider working out our soul? If we consider our soul as another body, an extension of who we are, then consistently working it out just as we do our physical form is important to keep it in shape. This is why we called this month's Heart Leader Toolkit item Compassion Calisthenics. It's a way to connect with a very key attribute of our soul and utilize it in multiple ways. In this deep dive discussion, Amber and Austin navigate through how they use this tool to: ▸ hold compassion for themselves, each other and those around them ▸ how compassion can lead to greater connection on all levels - personally, professionally and socially ▸ why self-compassion is foundational to being able to express compassion for others

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!Thank you so much for joining me again!Happy Tuesday! This week's theme for the podcast is: Encouragements for the YearThis week I want to give you ideas on what to focus on that will provide you encouragement throughout the year! I have chosen 5 things that are super important to your personal growth & that will help you on your journey to becoming your best self.I hope you enjoy & pass these tips along to someone else that may need it!Here are some notes from today's episode:I find that so many people hold back their opinion because of fear of offending others or being judged for what they are going to say. But I'm here to tell you that there is a way for you to speak your mind more often without letting either one of these things get in your way.The reason so many have trouble speaking their mind is because they were taught not to or ridiculed when they tried. It could also have been an experience of embarrassment or shame, too. Regardless of what it was, it was wrong. But I want to encourage you to stand up for yourself & say what you want to say (within reason of not bashing someone else, like someone may have done to you) when you want to say it. Your opinion is just as valid & appropriate as someone else's because everyone is entitled to their opinion. But just know that opinions don't equal facts, that includes your own. But you should still share what you think and feel with others. It's super important you are able to contribute your own thoughts, which can allow someone else to learn from you & you them, if your thoughts are challenged. Now, maybe you have some of the issues I described or maybe you don't & the biggest thing in your way right now is not sure how to go about saying what you want. I would encourage you to speak up to people you are most comfortable first. It's a great place to start & get used to jumping into conversations or just sharing a random thought. Sharing with people you are comfortable with also allows you to not be so critical of yourself when you're speaking. When you want to share with someone, you're going to have cut back on your internal negative thoughts & self-critical behavior.  Also, make sure you are aware of how emotional you are in your comments. What should you do about your fear of ridicule & judgment & non-acceptance? Honestly, let go of it. It doesn't matter what others think of what you say. I know it can seem like it does because acceptance & possibly of judgement is in the balance, but don't you want people to respect you more than being out of alignment with your thoughts? You should believe in the things you are saying. And don't go into the conversation assuming no one will agree with you. And even if they don't, that's fine. Not everyone is going to agree; they shouldn't.Share your mind. Share your thoughts. Be confident in what you want to share. And maybe sometimes you'll be wrong & need to be corrected, or you'll be challenged in your thinking, which is good & great for growth, but there will also be times others will appreciate what you're saying & want to hear more & even agree with you. Please share this podcast with anyone that may need this encouragement!Thank you again for listening & I hope this episode was helpful.Come visit me on my Instagram page @sabrinajoyperozzo to say hi!Have any questions, comments or feedback?  Send me an email at realpositivegirlpodcast@gmail.com or visit my website: www.sabrinajoy.comSee you for Wednesday's episode!Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/sabrinajoy)

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!Thank you so much for joining me again!Happy Monday! This week's theme for the podcast is: Encouragements for the YearThis week I want to give you ideas on what to focus on that will provide you encouragement throughout the year! I have chosen 5 things that are super important to your personal growth & that will help you on your journey to becoming your best self.I hope you enjoy & pass these tips along to someone else that may need it!Here are some notes from today's episode:Life can be so serious & we spend so much time talking about negative things, problems, issues & hustling so hard that I believe it would be nice to shift a little more of that time to laughing & being more lighthearted.Laughter is such a release from whatever it is you are struggling with or holding onto. I also believe laughter is a quick view of who you are genuinely & truly. As weird as it sounds, it kind of looks like a peek into your soul.Laughing is one of those things that will not only lighten your mood, but can release more endorphins & actually activates your body's response to stress. I guess this would mean that you should find more opportunities to laugh when you are in stressful situations. But the main reason I wanted to talk about laughter today is because I truly believe we all need to take breaks from taking ourselves so seriously. We can get wrapped up in all the things we are struggling with, trying to push through & just living with that we unknowingly push away happiness, joy & easy comforts because negative things can be so all consuming.I want you to let go & live a little bit, because you deserve it. We all deserve it. Have you ever experienced this? Where you realize everything you are thinking about, experiencing & talking about is negative & rarely anything positive? This is also why I speak so much about gratitude, because even if you are going through the toughest season of your life, you can still identify blessings & positives in your life to keep balanced in your mindset & life in general. And I know that some of us struggle with letting the positive stuff in because we don't want to diminish the pain of others close to us or simply don't see a point to doing so if it can't completely change what we are going through, but I'm here to tell you that it CAN be beneficial to what you're going through.Let me end this by letting you know that you don't need to hide your happiness just because someone else is having trouble finding their own. You might think you are helping because you aren't flashing your happiness in the face of others, but actually by being a role model of being happy through hard times could really benefit them, but as always, they have to make that choice. You can't do that for them. And as far as not wanting to be happy because it won't change anything in your situation, I believe this isn't true. You can change your situation & make it easier to get through by embracing any positives & happy situations, including laughter. Laughing & having gratitude for those moments isn't a magic solution, but it's a boost in the right direction. Please share this podcast with anyone that may need this encouragement!Thank you again for listening & I hope this episode was helpful.Come visit me on my Instagram page @sabrinajoyperozzo to say hi!Have any questions, comments or feedback?  Send me an email at realpositivegirlpodcast@gmail.com or visit my website: www.sabrinajoy.comSee you for Tuesday's episode!Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/sabrinajoy)

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!Thank you so much for joining me again!Happy Friday! This week's theme for the podcast is: New Year, Same You, New MoodThis week I want to talk to you about how important it is to know that you do not have to  recreate yourself every single year. A 'new you' is not required yearly, but it can be helpful to make some shifts & changes that will support your current work & goals. But with change can come some challenges, which I am also chatting about this week.New year new you isn't a bad thing. I want to make sure I mention that up front, but it's not something I think everyone needs to live by, especially since some goals & plans extend year to year & don't require much change. Here are some notes from today's episode:To end this week's topic we are going to talk about how important it is to be as organized as possible in the beginning of the year. Now I'm not saying you have to be super detail orientated & fixated on every single little thing, but kind of having a good idea of what you want to do, to work on & create goals around can really help you accomplish your goals even easier. And you might be thinking that it's too late to get started on being organized for the beginning of the year, seeing as we are already half ways through, but it's not true.As I have mentioned before, I think you can take the first whole month of the year to settle in. Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!Thank you so much for joining me again!Happy Thursday! Here are some notes from today's episode:As the saying goes, if everything were easy, life would be pretty boring. And I am here to tell you today that you should view your setbacks as only stumbling blocks & not a total stop sign.Mistakes, failures, setbacks are experiences that we shouldn't always classify as negative when there is so much to learn & grow from those moments. With a new year in the making, there are inevitably going to be some setbacks that come along with changes, new goals & just muddling through new routines or returning to old routines. And we shouldn't immediately write these things off because these are usually things we cannot avoid. There are plenty of things we can avoid, but nothing is perfect & setbacks will come. It's not a negative way of thinking, it's just reality. And I would hate for you to go into this new year believing that you can set everything up to be perfect & work out in the best way & not expect some stumbling blocks along the way.But I believe the most important message I want you to know is that just because there are stumbling blocks doesn't mean you need to stop. This shouldn't signal any desires to give up or believe you can't do something just because you hit a bump in the road.Bumps are going to come & we have to do our best to weather those storms & make it to the other side stronger & better. And, setbacks can also be a clue to let us know what isn't working & what may need to be adjusted. The last thought I want to leave you with is that by allowing setbacks in your life, you can allow those experiences to break you down & change you for the better. Sometimes our confidence & what we believe is true needs to be shaken up or shattered so it can be put back together stronger. Please share this podcast with anyone that may need this encouragement!Thank you again for listening & I hope this episode was helpful.Come visit me on my Instagram page @sabrinajoyperozzo to say hi!Have any questions, comments or feedback?  Send me an email at realpositivegirlpodcast@gmail.com or visit my website: www.sabrinajoy.comSee you for Friday's episode!Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/sabrinajoy)

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!Thank you so much for joining me again!Happy Tuesday! Here are some notes from today's episode:As I spoke about yesterday, with not having to change everything about yourself just because it's a new year, it's important to know that you can still create new goals.I made sure to reiterate in yesterday's episode that you should still consider some new goals to add at the top of the year, if you find it complimentary to what you're already working on. And if you do decide to add some new goals, make sure you don't jump head first into anything & go too quickly. You don't have to rush into anything, no matter how important the goal is to you. There is no need to go all in & get yourself overwhelmed, which could easily cause you to have to take a big step back, when you could have just started a little slower & progressed more & more over time. The reason I think taking your time is really important is because taking the time to prepare & actually make a sound decision on whether or not you want to move forward with that goal can save you a lot of time later, if you could have figured out it wasn't for you sooner. Why waste your time diving into something you're only lukewarm for or not completely sure of. It's not a race. And if someone in your life is trying to push you to do something quicker than you'd like, believe me when I tell you that you don't have to do it. You don't have to submit to peer pressure & you don't have to be bullied into doing anything you don't want to do. You might be put down for it, but their actions toward is ONLY a reflection of themself. Also, try to think about goals in smaller amounts of time so that you don't get overwhelmed or give up prematurely. Going month by month or quarter by quarter can help.Big picture: You don't have to rush into anything. It's usually better when you don't.Please share this podcast with anyone that may need this encouragement!Thank you again for listening & I hope this episode was helpful.Come visit me on my Instagram page @realpositivegirlpodcast or @sabrinajoyperozzo to say hi!Have any questions, comments or feedback?  Send me an email at realpositivegirlpodcast@gmail.com or visit my website: www.sabrinajoy.comSee you for Wednesday's episode!Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/sabrinajoy)

Here are some notes from today's episode:It's a new year, which brings a new mood, but that doesn't mean there has to be a new you to go along with it.New year new you isn't a bad thing. I want to make sure I mention that up front, but it's not something I think everyone needs to live by, especially since some goals & plans extend year to year & don't require much change. The new year to me feels like an ultimate Monday in a good way. I love Mondays so much because there is so much opportunity for new opportunities, new experiences & new mindsets. And while I believe in having that type of reset in your life, I don't think that resetting means you have to change everything, you are just starting again or making a couple of tweaks. And despite what a lot of people may be telling you or sharing online, you can still work on becoming your best self by staying the same. One of the biggest things I see as a problem is not giving changes or shifts in your life enough time to truly affect you. Based on an article I read earlier last year, I believe habits aren't actually created until you are 90 days in. I believe the actual research says 92 days, but still longer than the traditional 30 days. So let's say that you started something in October & the new year comes along & you think you need to change it again just because it's a new year, but you are only just getting into the fully formed habit phase. This means you should just stay the course you are currently on & adjust later, once you've given it time to actually make a difference in your life.I want to end by telling you that you do not have to change just because someone is expecting you to change or because many people around you or in your community circle are changing. It's not necessary or gonna help you create real habits & important changes in your life. Please share this podcast with anyone that may need this encouragement!Thank you again for listening & I hope this episode was helpful.Come visit me on my Instagram page @realpositivegirlpodcast or @sabrinajoyperozzo to say hi!Have any questions, comments or feedback?  Send me an email at realpositivegirlpodcast@gmail.com or visit my website: www.sabrinajoy.comSee you for Tuesday's episode!Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/sabrinajoy)

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!Thank you so much for joining me again!Happy Friday! This week's theme for the podcast is: Own Who You AreThis week I want to give you some personal truths & beliefs to live by. These episodes will also help you realize that taking responsibility for everything in your life will make you stronger, not weaker.  It's easy to blame someone else for how we are feeling, why we are doing certain things & what has happened to us in the past, but that type of behavior will not help us succeed or move forward in life. That is taking the easy way out. Here are some notes from today's episode:You may not think so because everyone talks about how they are entitled to their opinion, which is true, but I feel like a lot of people's opinions are based on someone else's opinion, someone else's knowledge or the fear of being judged for their true thoughts.I believe owning your opinion is just another one of the biggest & best things we can do to become more confident in ourselves & become our best selves. But something I believe everyone forgets is that people's opinions are not facts or necessarily truths, but just that person's thoughts. Which is why we should use caution when we try to align with someone else's opinions or try to take on their point of view. There truly isn't anything wrong with owning your own opinion & believing in your own thoughts. But I understand that one of the biggest issues with sharing your own opinion is that people will judge you for not having the same opinion as them. People fear what they don't know or don't find similar. But it's so important that we find the courage within ourselves to stay firm in our own beliefs & opinions so that we honor who we are & what WE truly believe, not based on someone else. But if you have trouble forming your own opinion, letting alone owning one, I have a few suggestions that may help you. First, learn to trust what your gut feelings are. Next, talk with others about their experiences. Next, consider your own experiences. Also, consider doing some research for both sides, if it applies to the opinion you are trying to consider. And know that it is ok to change your opinion, if you choose to see something a different way, but make sure that is actually by choice & not because someone is trying to bully you into doing so or you feel pressured.  And lastly, understand that not everyone will accept it what you believe. Finally, when you do craft your opinion & choose to own it fully, do it respectfully. There will be people that do not agree with what you believe. So when you decide to share your opinions with others, understand that it is fine & your right to share it, but it's not fair to try to force someone else to think the same as you do.It's tough because one of the biggest problems I see right now is that when someone devulges their opinion to others, it can easily lead the listener to placing that person in a category or stereotyped group because of one thought or belief.Just go into owning your opinion knowing there will be some unease at some point because not everyone is respectful or fairPlease share this podcast with anyone that may need this encouragement!Thank you again for listening & I hope this episode was helpful.Come visit me on my Instagram page @realpositivegirlpodcast or @sabrinajoyperozzo to say hi!Have any questions, comments or feedback?  Send me an email at realpositivegirlpodcast@gmail.com or visit my website: www.sabrinajoy.comSee yoSupport the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/sabrinajoy)

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!Thank you so much for joining me again!Happy Thursday! Here are some notes from today's episode:Owning your decisions comes down to one very specific truth, you don't need someone else's approval for what you choose to do.Yesterday I spoke about owning your desires, which includes making decisions to follow through with your dreams & wants. But to follow through with your decisions, you have to own those decisions.Owning your decisions will increase your confidence in who you are, what you want & how you want your life to go.But let me mention that if you have trouble owning your decisions because you have made poor decisions in the past, understand that those experiences are in the past. And we all make mistakes & hopefully accept the learning lessons that come along with those, and when we do, we can move on from those things. Not continue to linger in it.But if your decision regret is all-consuming, take the time to practice gratitude & it should help to change your perspective of negativity. We often struggle with owning our decisions due to caring too much about what others think, not trusting ourselves enough or feelings of shame & guilt. But when we allow others opinions & comments dictate what we do or don't do, we are putting our happiness in their hands. Even though the truth is you are the only one in charge of your happiness, by staking it all on what someone else thinks, you are virtually giving them all the power. And a lot of times we actually know what decisions we would like to make, but we get so hung up on relying on others opinions that we lose faith in our own. By doing so, you are basically telling yourself what you think doesn't matter. And you might not think this is too big a problem because it has always worked out for you, but what can happen is you start to live within this victim mentality & blame others for the poor decisions you have made. The biggest suggestion I would give you is to figure out why you are having trouble owning your decisions & come up with what to do to get through that struggle.Figure out why you are letting fear, others opinions or distrust in yourself get in your way.Start implementing boundaries with what you share with others or how you let their opinions affect you, be willing to follow through with decisions, even if everything isn't perfect & make sure that the reason you aren't owning your own decisions isn't because you feel obligated to handle someone else's. Know your personal & emotional responsibility only extends so far as you, not having to carry someone else's.Please share this podcast with anyone that may need this encouragement!Thank you again for listening & I hope this episode was helpful.Come visit me on my Instagram page @realpositivegirlpodcast or @sabrinajoyperozzo to say hi!Have any questions, comments or feedback?  Send me an email at realpositivegirlpodcast@gmail.com or visit my website: www.sabrinajoy.comSee you for Friday's episodSupport the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/sabrinajoy)

That is taking the easy way out. Here are some notes from today's episode:Today, let's talk about owning our own desires, because I know some of us struggle with doing this, due to fear of rejection, judgement & failure. Our own personal desires can be the top things that bring us so much joy, happiness & fulfillment, but generally only if we follow through with acting on these. But I know many people struggle with the follow through because of what someone else might think or not being able to have the expected experience or outcome you had planned for.First, let's talk about how important it is to acknowledge the desires of our heart. We should look forward to exploring more of what gives us that spark, as it promotes more self-awareness & inner work I like to encourage here.Honestly, I believe that when we don't acknowledge those desires, we are stifling our gifts, talents & true hearts. I know this might sound a bit fluffy & airy, but you really are denying yourself & important part of who you are but suppressing anything that sparks something positive in you.We all know that I love to promote authenticity, which is why I want to make sure you're aware that by not owning your desires & let those grow, you aren't practicing authenticity & being your true self. One of the most important things I want to note is that our desires really are a piece of who we are as people & if we don't own those, it becomes harder to understand you, who you are & what you're about. We all have our own specific & purposeful desires, which will help us know ourselves better & continue to grow into the unique individual we were meant to be.If you are having trouble figuring out how to own your desire, ask yourself if there were no roadblocks in your life, what would you do? How would you follow through if everything could be perfect?Take the time to get to know that deep part of you & let it be free to grow & teach you things about yourself. By doing so, you will cultivate greater happiness, freedom & emotional stability, as you won't be fighting yourself on what you want, you'll know. And if your issue is that you are super concerned with what others may think or how they will judge you, come back tomorrow, as I discuss owning your own decisions & opinions. But just know that what someone else says is only their opinion & not an actual roadblock. You can do what you want. Look to someone you admire & see how they do as they choose & use that as inspiration. Please share this podcast with anyone that may need this encouragement!Thank you again for listening & I hope this episode was helpful.Come visit me on my Instagram page @realpositivegirlpodcast or @sabrinajoyperozzo to say hi!Have any questions, comments or feedback?  Send me an email at realpositivegirlpodcast@gmail.com or visit my website: www.sabrinajoy.comSee you for Thursday's episode!Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/sabrinajoy)

That is taking the easy way out. Here are some notes from today's episode:Today I want to talk about the thing that, out of this entire week of what we are going to talk about, was the easiest for me & hopefully for you, too. We are going to talk about owning your past.Obviously, the past is in the past. You can't change it, you can't swap it out, & you have to accept what has happened because there really isn't anything else you can do.The funny thing about the past is that people always want to throw out what has happened to them in the past, more specifically when it was a negative experience, because it's much easier to forget & avoid something, rather than deal with it.I talk about it all the time, the things we go through provides so much growth & learning opportunities. Which I understand isn't the most fun thing, but it's necessary to understanding yourself better & becoming your best self.On the flip side, there are some people that choose to instead live in the past. You get so caught up in what has happened & get into a whirlwind of thinking it means more than it usually does & let it hold you back from the rest of your life. How sad is it that we let certain experiences hold us back from living & being who we were meant to be? I get that it might have sucked, but you don't have to let it be all-consuming & controlling.I grew up with a ton of terrible experiences, but I chose to learn from those because it was the choice that allowed me to not be continuously haunted by what happened. It also taught me how to be a better person, better mom, better wife, better friend, because I chose to not let negativity crush me. You can do the same. Now whether you are on the side of being obsessed with your past & letting it rule your life or trying to pretend like none of it happened, you need to understand that it is a part of you & something you should try to use as a reference for what to do, not to do or do something better or different. The biggest piece of information I want to share with you today is that you need to accept your past to better appreciate your future. If you get so stuck in wishing things had gone differently, you won't appreciate how it's actually turning out or becoming better than you even expected.A couple other pieces of owning your past: accept the attached negative emotions, grow through what you go through, & go slow with yourself. Please share this podcast with anyone that may need this encouragement!Thank you again for listening & I hope this episode was helpful.Come visit me on my Instagram page @realpositivegirlpodcast or @sabrinajoyperozzo to say hi!Have any questions, comments or feedback?  Send me an email at realpositivegirlpodcast@gmail.com or visit my website: www.sabrinajoy.comSee you for Wednesday's episode!Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/sabrinajoy)

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!Thank you so much for joining me again!Happy Monday! Here are some notes from today's episode:This week we are going to talk about owning everything we are all about. It can be so easy to stick blame on someone else for how we are feeling, why we are doing certain things & what has happened to us in the past, but that type of behavior will not help us succeed or move forward in life. That is taking the easy way out. It's also unfair to those you are blaming.Today specifically I want to chat about owning your own personal emotions.A lot of times we will blame (and you may not even realize you are blaming someone else) someone else for how we are feeling because of something they said or did or inferred to us. But that's actually not true, because despite how someone else treats you, you are always responsible for your own emotions. It takes a lot of responsibility to own your own feelings, but it's the right & necessary thing to do. By doing so, it will help you better manage how you are feeling & eventually why you are feeling the way you are.Blaming someone else can make it easier to justify how you choose to feel, but again, this is just you playing yourself as the victim & that you have nothing to do with the reason you are suffering. The best thing about owning your feelings is being able to be in control of those feelings. By trying to pass off the blame onto others, you are conceding control of how you feel, which is not something anyone actually wants. In addition to owning how you are feeling, it's important to own your emotions in general. And by this I mean that you should accept how you are feeling, even if you know it's irrational at the moment, rather than suppress it.Suppressed feelings are not something that goes away over time, but still burning underneath the surface, waiting for the next opportunity to come out, but only bigger & better the longer it is hidden. There is no reason to pretend you are not feeling what you're feeling, as this will just cause more pain later. I like to imagine it as sweeping emotions under the rug & continually building a volcano sized amount of feelings to explode later.Regardless of how irrational something feels in the moment, it's a true insight to how you feel about whatever it is & that needs to be recognized. And, like I say often, generally those feelings are only surface level & the real issue is buried below.Bottom Line: Stop blaming others for how you choose to feel about something & stop trying to bury your feelings because you don't want to deal with what comes with understanding what those things mean. Please share this podcast with anyone that may need this encouragement!Thank you again for listening & I hope this episode was helpful.Come visit me on my Instagram page @realpositivegirlpodcast or @sabrinajoyperozzo to say hi!Have any questions, comments or feedback?  Send me an email at realpositivegirlpodcast@gmail.com or visit my website: www.sabrinajoy.comSupport the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/sabrinajoy)

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!Thank you so much for joining me again!Happy Friday! This week's theme for the podcast is: How to Review Your YearThis week I want to give you some direction on how to give 2020 a full-on review to pull out the amazing positive points, growing opportunities & things to bring into 2021  that are unfinished & continuing.Reviewing your year may sound boring or unnecessary, but it gives you the chance to actually realize how many positives happened, how those things probably outweighed the negatives & what you need to do to make the upcoming year to best yet. Here are some notes from today's episode:What better way to close out the old year & ring in the new year than me encouraging you to come up with mindful changes for the new year. This is going to be more of a quick encouragement, rather than a big lesson or even a checklist. It's important to come up with some sort of changes you would like to implement this new year, just to push yourself, even if you are just working on current goals & not new ones. There are so many lists out there of examples of change you can make to make a difference in your life. For example: volunteer more, adopt and attitude of gratitude, spend less & do more (if possible), create a monthly budget, create specific routines, or even decide to get rid of one bad habit. It does not have to be New Year, New You. It can for sure be New Year, Same You, New Mood. Please share this podcast with anyone that may need this encouragement!Thank you again for listening & I hope this episode was helpful.Come visit me on my Instagram page @realpositivegirlpodcast or @sabrinajoyperozzo to say hi!Have any questions, comments or feedback?  Send me an email at realpositivegirlpodcast@gmail.com or visit my website: www.sabrinajoy.comSee you for Next Week's episode!Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/sabrinajoy)

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!Thank you so much for joining me again!Happy Thursday! Here are some notes from today's episode:I feel like this is going to be the easiest thing you do within this entire year in review that I'm speaking about this year.Today I want to briefly talk about the importance of reviewing goals you had over the year & deciding what to do about incomplete & completed goals. The importance of reviewing your goals in general is to keep those desires, dreams, & aspirations at the forefront of your mind so that other things don't come in & distract you too much. You want to make sure you are giving those goals the time & attention needed to actually get accomplished.Generally yearly goals are smaller goals that come together to represent your life goals. And I believe that a true review only needs to be completed once a year, with small check-ins conducted throughout the year. But it's in the yearly review that you see if the rate of your progression is to your liking, decide if these goals are actually right for you, & whether or not you are going about achieving those goals with the correct plan & associated steps. If you find that some of the goals you have are not completed within the year, that's totally fine. Many goals are super long-term & meant to progress year after year, like schooling, other career oriented actions & projects that including several building phases, like a business or actual buildings. And it's during this time that you should decide if you'd like to continue on with these goals or whether or not you'd like to change course or just make some changes in general. For the goals that you accomplished, then it's really taking the time to reflect on such positive moments & accomplishments, which usually makes you feel great. But it could also encourage you to decide whether or not you want to create a new goal modeled after that one or make the decision that that goal is finished, even if just for now.The main point I want to leave you with is to review your goals, finished or unfinished, & decide if any adjustments need to be made. New way of get through the struggle points. New method on how to learn something new. New set of steps to follow that might make the process easier & more enjoyable. Please share this podcast with anyone that may need this encouragement!Thank you again for listening & I hope this episode was helpful.Come visit me on my Instagram page @realpositivegirlpodcast or @sabrinajoyperozzo to say hi!Have any questions, comments or feedback?  Send me an email at realpositivegirlpodcast@gmail.com or visit my website: www.sabrinajoy.comSee you for Friday's episode!Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/sabrinajoy)

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!Thank you so much for joining me again!Happy Wednesday! Here are some notes from today's episode:Today I want to talk about how you get a little deeper in your year in review by asking deep & specific questions. This works very well in conjunction with creating your list of positive & negative experiences that happened throughout the year because you can create questions based on those experiences or go forage for questions & use those lists to help you get deeper answers. In addition to getting a little deeper with this exercise, asking a question can also create a question for something related to the new year. For example, you can ask yourself what 3 or 4 words you would use to describe this past year & then when starting to plan for the new year, ask yourself what 3 or 4 words you want to be the theme of this new year. And we all know I like to mention self-awareness pretty often, & this is one of those times where asking questions will definitely help with self-awareness.Now when you come up with some questions to ask yourself, whether you take time to ponder your own or simply Google it, doesn't matter, make sure you don't waste your own time & go deeper than surface answers. For example, if you were to ask yourself: “Who was your main go-to person you could really count on?” Maybe you'll just answer it was your best friend or your spouse, but really take time to think whether it really was that person or someone more random or different than you would automatically think. Maybe it was a co-worker, because they could relate to job-related pandemic changes or maybe it was the barista at the coffee place you frequent because it was nice that despite everything going on, there was still a piece of your routine & regular life continuing on. Don't just go with your first assumption on an answer, really think it through. Now let me wrap this up by giving you some sample questions to ask yourself & ponder on:What was the funniest moment you experienced? What was something you learned for the first time & really enjoyed learning about? Was there something new you discovered about yourself? If so, what was it?What mental blocks did you overcome?Did any of your relationships evolve into something deeper or fall apart? What was the biggest problem you solved? What was the best compliment you received? Please share this podcast with anyone that may need this encouragement!Thank you again for listening & I hope this episode was helpful.Come visit me on my Instagram page @realpositivegirlpodcast or @sabrinajoyperozzo to say hi!Have any questions, comments or feedback?  Send me an email at realpositivegirlpodcast@gmail.com or visit my website: www.sabrinajoy.comSee you for Thursday's episode!Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/sabrinajoy)

There is not supposed to be any judgement involved in this because chances are that you already engaged in that during those negative moments, so there is no point in doing it again.Creating a list like this will help you evaluate whether or not your goals were created well enough, whether or not you broke it down into actual, do-able steps, & what can you reflect on that will give you guidance on what not to do next time. This practice is not meant to be something that brings you down, but as a mindful process to acknowledge that these moments were a part of your life, your story & many if not all have contributed to making you stronger.Evaluating & reflecting back on not so great times & experiences is all about growth to me.Please share this podcast with anyone that may need this encouragement!Thank you again for listening & I hope this episode was helpful.Come visit me on my Instagram page @realpositivegirlpodcast or @sabrinajoyperozzo to say hi!Have any questions, comments or feedback?  Send me an email at realpositivegirlpodcast@gmail.com or visit my website: www.sabrinajoy.comSee you for Wednesday's episode!Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/sabrinajoy)

I promise you'll be able to find something. And I wanted to make sure I emphasized that you should look for both big & small things. Like I talk about all the time at the top of the show speaking on the 5 MInute Reset, big, small or medium, it all matters & is all significant.Take the time to review what good things you can pull out of 2020, I would suggest doing so month by month, because it will make it easier to think through the year.I also believe that taking the time to identify what good things you can pull out of the year will help you to understand that you shouldn't throw the whole year out because there were a couple of negative spots. I feel like this happens all the time where we will throw a blanket over an entire day, week, month or year just because of a few, specific things that didn't go as we wanted, when those are just small percentages of all the things that happen in our lives. Plus, it is so easy to let even the smallest things overshadow amazing, positive things that are happening for us.Please share this podcast with anyone that may need this encouragement!Thank you again for listening & I hope this episode was helpful.Come visit me on my Instagram page @realpositivegirlpodcast or @sabrinajoyperozzo to say hi!Have any questions, comments or feedback?  Send me an email at realpositivegirlpodcast@gmail.com or visit my website: www.sabrinajoy.comSee you for Tuesday's episode!Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/sabrinajoy)

This holiday can be stressful enough as it is, so there is no need to add in any extra introspective thoughts, but don't count next week out! These important reminders will also push you to take of yourself first more often than not. Here are some notes from today's episode:What better way to close out the week than to remind you that it's perfectly okay to be yourself. In a world with so much chaos & uncertainty, one thing that is certain is that being yourself is important.I have spoken about this topic before here on the podcast, but thought it would be a nice, quick reminder for today because it's something so many of us struggle with due to fear of judgement, unspoken social expectations, external influences & thinking there is a right & wrong way to be.But one of the main things you need to remember is that no one can control how others think & feel, so you just have to know & accept that fact & use that knowledge to push you to just be the best version of yourself you can be, based on your own rules, not anyone else's.The thing that is most crushing for me is that I worry how others are going to judge me, pick me apart & possibly disclude me from things based on what they think about what I'm doing. But something I am trying to work on is not letting fear dictate my life.Being yourself is all about authenticity. As Brene Brown said, “Authenticity is the daily practice of letting go of who we think we're supposed to be, and instead embracing who we are.”Let me share with you a few tips on how you can work on being yourself, if it's something you're struggling with:Tip #1: Accept Who You AreTip #2: Cut Out Negative Self TalkTip #3: Know that Other People's Judgement is About Them, Not YouPlease share this podcast with anyone that may need this encouragement!Thank you again for listening & I hope this episode was helpful.Come visit me on my Instagram page @realpositivegirlpodcast or @sabrinajoyperozzo to say hi!Have any questions, comments or feedback?  Send me an email at realpositivegirlpodcast@gmail.com or visit my website: www.sabrinajoy.comSee you for Next Week's episode!Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/sabrinajoy)

This holiday can be stressful enough as it is, so there is no need to add in any extra introspective thoughts, but don't count next week out! These important reminders will also push you to take of yourself first more often than not. Here are some notes from today's episode:Listen, I feel like today's episode really is just a reminder & not really even a lesson I can break down that much for you.You genuinely have to believe in yourself before anyone else does because a lack of belief in yourself will hinder any possible success, no matter how many good goals & ideas you come up with. If you don't believe that you can accomplish it, it will not happen. You have to be the first one that believes in you & you have to be the one that hits it the most. You can't rely on others to keep you up & motivated, it's just not realistic or their responsibility.Believing in yourself will help you to be more optimistic about the goals & plans you have for yourself. It will actually help you to take those steps forward to start that journey. And think about the fact that if you don't believe in yourself first, there is no reason for anyone else to believe in you either. Why would they want to if you can't even muster enough courage to do so yourself? And I know that there will be some people in your life, like family & close friends, that will believe in you despite what you are feeling, but even those encouragements can fade away if you don't eventually get on board. One of the best things that will come from starting to believe in yourself is feeling more positive, in general, about what you're going after & what the outcome could be. There will probably be moments of failures woven into those experiences, but if you keep going, it will give you great learning lessons & the opportunity to try again but with more experience & knowledge. Here are some quick tips on how to start believing in yourself:Tip #1: Accept Where You Are Right NowTip #2: Reflect On Past SuccessesTip #3: Learn to Trust YourselfTip #4: Get A MentorPlease share this podcast with anyone that may need this encouragement!Thank you again for listening & I hope this episode was helpful.Come visit me on my Instagram page @realpositivegirlpodcast or @sabrinajoyperozzo to say hi!Have any questions, comments or feedback?  Send me an email at realpositivegirlpodcast@gmail.com or visit my website: www.sabrinajoy.comSee you for Friday's episode!Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/sabrinajoy)

This holiday can be stressful enough as it is, so there is no need to add in any extra introspective thoughts, but don't count next week out! These important reminders will also push you to take of yourself first more often than not. Here are some notes from today's episode:You don't need to feel bad about how you are feeling & coping with whatever is going on in your life. Everyone has periods of their lives where things are hard & emotions will cling & drag you down.I believe that part of the reason we all feel like not being ok is a bad thing is because there is societal pressure to keep it to ourselves, not drag anyone else down with us & don't expose your emotions for fear of burdening someone else. There is also the aspect of perfectionism & people pleasing that can cause people to pretend like everything is ok.I think this is one of the most dangerous things to do because if you are dealing with really heavy things & don't reach out for help & no one else knows, you could fall into a deep depression & convince yourself to do regrettable things. There is an article on Psychology Today by Hannah Rose that talks about how we need to show up for every single emotion, no matter how painful, or we are destined to continually manifest those experiences in our lives until we deal with it. I believe this is absolutely true. It's also part of the reason we drag around our emotional baggage from relationship to relationship to season of life. We don't take the time to properly deal with it.I think we need to normalize that it's ok to struggle & be unhappy & be sad & not smile.Clinical therapist Jaime Zuckerman talks about the idea of “toxic positivity” & how that is related to the inability of normalizing feeling our true feelings. It's the idea that despite what we are going through, we should always try to force positive thoughts & vibes & have a positive mindset. By doing this, we end up invalidating our true feelings, making our emotional state worse because we are allowing the pain & hurt to get even deeper & validating that it isn't ok to not be ok, which isn't true.I also want to mention that on the flip side, if someone you know is dealing with something tough, you shouldn't just tell them it's going to be ok. Instead or in addition to that, you should let them know it's ok for them to feel the way they are feeling. We all have thoughts & emotions & there is nothing wrong with that. It's more about how we act on those thoughts & feelings.Don't be the person that just tells someone to “buck up” or “just get over it” because that doesn't help anyone work through their pain & discomfort. Please share this podcast with anyone that may need this encouragement!Thank you again for listening & I hope this episode was helpful.Come visit me on my Instagram page @realpositivegirlpodcast or @sabrinajoyperozzo to say hi!Have any questions, comments or feedback?  Send me an email at realpositivegirlpodcast@gmail.com or visit my website: www.sabrinajoy.comSee you for Thursday's episode!Support the show

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!Thank you so much for joining me again!Happy Tuesday! This week's theme for the podcast is: Important RemindersThis week I want to give you thoughts that you should be reminding yourself of on the regular for being on that journey to become your best self & live your life with as much ease as you can get. These reminders will also be helpful during this super busy week of the year, leading us up to Christmas. This holiday can be stressful enough as it is, so there is no need to add in any extra introspective thoughts, but don't count next week out! These important reminders will also push you to take of yourself first more often than not. Here are some notes from today's episode:Another important reminder that kindness is the best option. When you can make a conscious choice between being kind or not, you won't ever regret choosing kindness.Kindness is one of those things that we can easily take for granted or think won't affect someone if we don't offer it up.I also think it's one of those things that many people don't want to engage in because it makes them feel weak or like a push over.Kindness can also be the harder choice because it's so darn easy to be mean to someone. Being mean & nasty can easily slither out of our bodies & take someone down. A lot of times you don't even have to try because it's a natural reaction.Kindness is something that will improve our quality of life because it brings people together. Being nice to others can also cause us to feel good about ourselves & make that other person feel good, even if they don't show that in the moment. You never know what happens behind closed doors. And I understand that sometimes we fall into our reactions before we give ourselves a chance to choose to be kind & give grace, which is just being a normal person & no one is perfect. But just know you can switch your actions & feelings at any time & can always try again.Kindness can be shown in so many ways, like opening the door for someone, giving a compliment, being kind but still firm in situations that call for it, giving someone grace when they make a mistake or mess-up.The ultimate reason we should choose kindness is because you never know what someone else is going through. People lash out because of their own pain & not knowing how to deal with it.

Here are some notes from today's episode:This week I wanted to talk about reminders that we should all be telling ourselves & talk about something a little bit lighter, since it is Christmas week & some of us have enough stress to deal with, I didn't want to take you on any emotional whirlwind.Maybe next week, though!I thought it would be helpful to start with talking about reminding ourselves that it is okay to rest when we need it.I know this can be a really tough thing for a lot of people to admit to themselves, that rest is needed, but we need to get in the habit of doing so. There won't always be someone there to remind you to do so, even if you do have that right now.Today I want to share with you not only different ways you can implement rest into your life, but also reasons why you need to.Let's jump into 3 tips/reasons for rest:Tip #1: The first reason we need to rest is that our brains need a break. Giving your brain a rest will help to improve general everyday performance, improve mood & increase your ability to concentrate & give attention to whatever it is you need to focus on. Idea for resting the brain: Unplug from as much as you can.Tip #2: The second reason we need to rest is because our bodies can only take so much. According the the website, nectersleep in the UK, when our bodies do take some time to rest our cortisol levels are lower (which is our stress hormones), our sympathetic nervous system relaxes, which lowers our blood pressure & other hormones get to work that help to grow & repair things inside our bodies. Idea for resting the body: Sleep is the most obvious, but if that isn't what you need, meditation works really well & for something that lets you still move your body but minimally, yoga or general stretching.Tip #3: The third & final reason we need to rest is because burnout is a real thing. Burnout is the mental, emotional & physical exhaustion created from prolonged stress  from being overwhelmed, feeling unable to perform under pressure & just emotional drained. It's the idea of not stopping, despite feeling the stress overflow. Idea for resting due to burnout: Delegate & be firm about your needs.

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!Thank you so much for joining me again!Happy Wednesday! This week's theme for the podcast is: Why You're Not MotivatedThis week I want to give you tips on restoring some of the reasons why you are lacking motivation. This will range from not knowing what you want in life to avoiding doing anything because of possible negative outcomes. We all lack motivation at some point in our lives, but sometimes it can be everlasting. And there will be times when motivation is not what we need to lean on, as we all have to do hard things during hard times just because. But learning how to reignite your own personal motivation to get it done or get it started can be so helpful. Here are some notes from today's episode:So I totally get why you would create rewards & prizes for yourself to help boost motivation when going after goals & dreams, but sometimes it can get a little out of control. And one of the reasons that people use rewards for getting stuff done is because it creates in the brain a link between pleasure & accomplishments. But I believe there can be a burnout experience in that if we aren't careful.Plus there is also the issue with spending extra money that we don't necessarily have. And some many argue that rewards don't have to cost money, but I feel like ‘free' rewards will only carry you so far & you're still stuck in the end.I feel like 2 of the biggest problems are that you end up spending money on rewards that might push you into an uncomfortable financial place at some point because you are so driven to come up with awesome things that will push you to keep going or you can afford it & do a mix of free things & paid items, but you either run out of ideas, it becomes boring or the thing you are working towards becomes so hard that no reward is really pushing you to keep going. Now something I don't think I made clear at the beginning is that I am speaking about CONSTANT rewards, not ones that are sprinkled in here & there. So today I'm not really going to give you a traditional list, like I normally do, but I am going to leave you with some advice on how to use rewards for motivation in the ways I think will assist you best in your goals.First, try to start out with no rewards. The beginning of any journey should be exciting on it's own, so rewards shouldn't be needed yet.Next, don't use rewards constantly. If you get to a stage in your goal accomplishing where you need to start adding in rewards to spice it up a bit, do every few milestones, not every single one.Lastly, accept that giving yourself rewards isn't going to always work & discipline is the key to accomplishing most things.

Hello Everyone & Welcome Back to the RealPositiveGirl Podcast!Thank you so much for joining me again!Happy Tuesday! Here are some notes from today's episode:A lot of people like to rely on willpower to help them not do something or to keep doing something & couple that with motivation. But honestly willpower isn't something you should rely on because it's not reliable & it easily fades. I believe it could be helpful in addition to discipline, but for sure not alone.I feel like willpower is comparable to a caffeine rush or something else that is temporary & waning in the moment you need it most.I want to share with you some reasons why willpower is not it.Willpower is easily over estimated.Your self-control isn't always in control.Self-defeating thoughts easily crush willpower.Today I want to share with you some alternatives to willpower that will work better:Alternative #1: Build Better Habits.Alternative #2: Letting Go of Perfection.Alternative #3: Accept Mistakes & Move Forward. Self Compassion.Alternative #4: Be Grateful For Willpower When It ComesPlease share this podcast with anyone that may need this encouragement!Thank you again for listening & I hope this episode was helpful.Come visit me on my Instagram page @realpositivegirlpodcast or @sabrinajoyperozzo to say hi!Have any questions, comments or feedback?  Send me an email at realpositivegirlpodcast@gmail.com or visit my website: www.sabrinajoy.comSee you for Wednesday's episode!Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/sabrinajoy)

But learning how to reignite your own personal motivation to get it done or get it started can be so helpful. Here are some notes from today's episode:Sometimes this doesn't seem like a big deal because you believe you will figure it out at some point, but it can definitely be something that can affect your motivation. But one of the reasons you may be struggling to have motivation is because you don't know what you want & if you don't know what you want, you can't really be motivated to do anything because there is no clear path or plan for you to follow or use. It's for sure a combo of not knowing & not having a plan. Because you can know what you want, but if you don't have a plan to achieve it, you're still at a loss. But I have found that if you know what you want & have fashioned a plan of attack, motivation will flow a bit easier. And I understand that it can be hard to figure out what you want or the path to take to get there, but that is what I'm going to share with you today.Today I am going to share with you a few tips on how to get closer to figuring out what you want in life.Tip #1: Get to Know Yourself BetterTip #2: Get Rid of DistractionsTip #3: Try Things Out for a MonthTip #4: Create Some Goals to AccomplishTip #5: Seek the Wisdom of Others That Have Struggled AlsoPlease share this podcast with anyone that may need this encouragement!Thank you again for listening & I hope this episode was helpful.Come visit me on my Instagram page @realpositivegirlpodcast or @sabrinajoyperozzo to say hi!Have any questions, comments or feedback?  Send me an email at realpositivegirlpodcast@gmail.com or visit my website: www.sabrinajoy.comSee you for Tuesday's episode!Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/sabrinajoy)
