The guys at NTS have always been known for striking while the iron's hot. (No, really. We mean it.) But when the iron is hot and covered in slime? Well, that's a magical combination that results in another movie review. And this time, Matt's better half Keia joins the party. So, if you've seen "Slime City" on Tubi, you'll love this one. Check the calendar, maniacs! The gang is all here this week as we start a new theme, A Comedy Of Horrors, with the 1981 lampoon Saturday The 14th. While we break down this goofy flick, we also discuss other topics such as watching movies on half speed, Tin Pan Alley, and our opinions of the combination of chicken and peanut butter. Drop that Caramello and check out our Patreon! This month we play a little game Gregg cooked up called Pit Or Pass? Six songs have been selected, all cover songs by late 90s and early 00s nu-metal bands, and we decide whether we hit the pit if it's good or we check out the merch booth if it's bad. For as little as $2 a month you can get in on the action as well with bonus episodes, Discord privileges, livestreams, exclusive merchandise and more! Want more discussions on haunted houses? Check out our previous episodes on Cellar Dweller (episode 11), Bloody New Year (episode 16), Night Of The Demons (episode 58), Demons (episode 135), Ghosthouse (episode 138), Slime City (episode 233), House (episode 236), and Blood Theatre (episode 245).
Splinter (2008), Thanatomorphose (2012), and Contracted (2013) When discussing films that deal with body horror, David Cronenberg and his work usually come up in the conversation. How can he not, when so many of his earlier films all dealt with some sort of body horror, mutations, and transformations? But there are plenty of films that go above and beyond (and even below) Cronenberg's impressive genre efforts... sometimes even making us wonder why we're watching them in the first place! Could it be that we just want to see how much grossness we can stomach? Or is there more to it? Body horror is one of the most horrific of horror's subgenres, tossing heaping handfuls of disgust into the usual bag of scares. And maybe it's the hangover from the recent global pandemic, maybe it's the fact that by a certain age all of us have watched someone close to us fight a serious illness, or maybe it's just built into us by Mother Nature, but there's something especially horrific about body horror from infection. But what do we get from watching it? Disgust, discomfort, and maybe a deeper understanding of human experience and anxieties? We can for sure guarantee the first two- so let's dig in! Disclaimer: by the end of the episode, you will be forgiven if you catch yourself looking at your body in a full-length mirror thinking "well, at least no maggots fell out of there." Movies mentioned in this episode: Abigail (2024), Beyond the Darkness (1979), Body Melt (1993), Carcinoma (2014), Contracted (2013), Creepshow (1982), The Fly (1986), Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024), The Grudge 3 (2009), House of Wax (2005), Immaculate (2024), The Machinist (2004), Slime City (1988), Splinter (2008), Street Trash (1987), Thanatomorphose (2012), The Thing (1982), Toxic Avenger (1984)

Movie Meltdown - Episode 610 We continue talking with Sam Drog as the old men try to not get bogged down in the ever alluring... deadly nostalgia. And while we realize it's never been better, we also delve into… Barbenheimer, the writer's strike, Street Trash, selling your likeness to the studios, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Superman 2, the actual age of the universe, Phil Tippett's Mad God, 99X, Night of the Creeps, Kate McKinnon, Knock at the Cabin, how humanity invented its own destruction, The Phantom Menace, cryptids on Tik Tok, lessened atrocities, we were so blown away by, you only got one shot as a child of the Griswolds, touring concerts, junk food entertainment, everybody's refrigerator art, Slime City, the most low-budget takeover of Earth, the value of the human-made artistic work, homeless hobos that drink a lot, how quickly life changes, finding your crutch, going to be part of the scene, movie theater hangover, Harry Potter, certified made by humans, we're not here long enough to really get old, getting dressing up for the movie, people are becoming obsolete, wanting to live in the past, the upgrades of movie theaters, I want to be seen, Fred Dekker and generically amazing. “People just get nostalgic for the wrong aspects of things.”
One of several collaborations between writer-director Greg Lamberson and star Craig Sabin, 1988's Slime City focuses on a derelict apartment building that may or may not be a cover for a coven of regenerating, reincarnated witches who transfer bodies via the consumption of "Himalayan Yoghurt." It's as bonkers as it sounds!

That time your fiancé turned into a goop monster and had to kill people to stay ungoopy long enough for you to do it for the first time and then kill him. I mean, there's just that much to see here. This guy moves into an apartment only to be invited to eat some goop and then turn into goop because the spirit of a Jim Jones guy lives in the goop and splits control over your body. He then threatens you (astral interior(ly), its a thing) to turn you into goop unless you satisfy his bloodlust and kill some bums and hookers. Pretty standard stuff here. Oh wait, everyone else in the apartment building has to do the same thing. Oh, and you've got a pesky 22 year old virgin girlfriend sniffing around/wanting to bang on your super gross mattress (it was gross before you became a goop monster, so....I think that's her fault? No its yours). That's nothing really that weird right? This movie is bonkers. I'm not even talking about the best part of the movie but the plot on its own is as crazy as Death Bed: The Bed that Eats and it goes way past that level in nanners throughout. It is self-aware of how ridiculous it is, but its also incredibly artistic especially when factoring in its very modest $50K budget (even in 1988 this is crazy cheap). The only thing that can steer you away from this is if you have a weak stomach but the film helps you out with that by showing the insides of a tummy. Its just hot dogs and fruit salad so nothing to worry about. Barf away!
Today on Too Opinionated we visit with director/writer Greg Lamberson about his new film, Guns of Eden! We've made it through the wilderness, and now it's time to feel like a virgin as we make our debut into Society. This week we talk about Greg Lamberson's Slime City A student moves into a run-down building in New York City. His bizarre neighbors make a concoction in their apartment they call wine, but when he takes some of it, he turns into a deformed, murderous monster. And Slime City Massacre In the wake of a "dirty bomb" attack, a New York City neighborhood known as "Slime City" has been evacuated, except for the homeless ("displaced refugees"). Four squatters searching for food in the ruins of the Zachary Devon Soup Kitchen (Jennifer Bihl, Kealan Patrick Burke, Debbie Rochon, Lee Perkins) discover a supply of Zachary Devon's Home Brewed Elixir and Himalayan Yogurt. When they drink the elixir and eat the yogurt, they are transformed into hideous slime creatures driven to murder - an intermediate step as they are possessed by the spirits of Zachary Devon (Robert Sabin) and the members of his Coven of Flesh, who committed suicide years earlier. When a greedy developer (Roy Frumkes) sets his sites on Slime City, he hires a team of mercenaries (Nelron Hubbard, Tommy Sweeney, T.J. Merrick, Eric Mache, and Nicholas John Morgan Anderson) to wipe out the homeless population. It's a battle royal between the Slime Heads, the mercenaries, and bloodthirsty mutant cannibals! A loving tribute to the over the top splatter films of the 1980s, featuring Brooke Lewis, Mary Bogle, and Lloyd Kaufman. It's time to get gooey on this weeks episode of sick on cinema. We take a look at some of the best melt movies ever with Street Trash, Slime City, and Body Melt.
While not a Troma film in name, Street Trash definitely fits the bill in spirit. This film is one of the most revered “melt movies,” spawning several imitators. Originally, director, James Muro Jr., created a 15-minute short film of the same name. He later teamed with his former professor at the School of Visual Arts in New York City and screenwriter, Roy Frumkes, to turn the gross out short into a feature film. Of note, Roy Frumkes played the pie face zombie in Dawn of the Dead, and his likeness can be seen on many posters for Street Trash, as the businessman soaked in yellow acid. The basic plot revolves around a local dump and a ragtag group of miscreants and derelicts, all trying to get their hands on some Tenafly Viper. What they don’t know, is that this wine is made of something far worse than sour grapes, resulting in some tremendous effects. While none of the actors went on to major onscreen success, director James Muro Jr. would later be the Steadicam operator for The Abyss, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, True Lies, and Titanic. Sadly, he never returned to direct another feature film, only occasionally directing TV after Street Trash. The film mainly stands out for its makeup effects, headed by Jennifer Aspinal. You may recall that Aspinal had worked on Toxic Avenger, Twisted Souls, and Spookies, before abandoning the horror genre to work on SNL and Mad TV.If you ever have feedback or recommendations on future episodes, please let us know at slasherspod@gmail.com. Season 2 kicks off with wives Erica & Alexandra who, after having our signature drink (the SLIME CITY SHOOTER), square off against our slasher in a deadly game of SLIME CITY trivia. Only one can make it to the Final Girl round, so at least one newlywed is guaranteed to be newlydead. They're playing for a really cool prize made by Voodootique. Will either win? Not if we have anything to do with it. Theme music by Zalatan. Become a final girl contestant here.
And we're off to races, starting Cocktail Party Massacre Season 2 with newlyweds Erica & Alex. With our Pregame Quickiesodes, you'll get to know our Final Girl contestants -- before we (hopefully) slaughter them in a deadly game of trivia based on the horror movie of their choice -- in this case, the 1988 cult classic SLIME CITY. You'll have a week to watch SLIME CITY before the game episode drops, kiddies. Then, you can play the game alongside our brave beauties, Erica & Alex. BTW: You'll hear Erica's original music throughout the season, and you can peep Alex's amazing art here.
It's no secret that a lot of publishers, especially small press, struggle to keep their doors open for business. Jason White talks with Gregory Lamberson about Medallion's recent closure and how this will affect his body of work, what his future plans are, and whether or not they are still available. As Gregory is also a film maker, they also discuss Amazon's ban of Killer Rack along with the making of Johnny Gruesome.

In this month of Thanksgiving when, in America, we feast... I’m thinking about things that feast on us. The fear of being eaten is primal, and dates back to our caveman days when we were on the menu for all the big predators. And it’s been a mainstay of horror for ages. The Blob, The Fly (both the original and the David Cronenberg remake), and countless other movies and books deal with the primal fear of being eaten by an unknown monster. So, in this episode I talk about some movies and books that give their own unique and horrible answers to the age old question... "What's eating you?" Some are classics, some are cult classics, and some are satires. All of them will creep you out. I hope you enjoy them. First up, one of our oldest friends, Greg Lamberson, is back to chat about what he's got going on, namely The Buffalo Dreams Fantastic Film Festival; Blu-ray releases of Killer Rack, Slime City, and Slime City Massacre; and the film that's been more than three decades in the making: Johnny Gruesome. Then, Rich the Monster Movie Kid reviews the brand new anthology film Tales of Halloween. Finally, it's been four years since Duane and Desmond discussed all of The Simpsons "Treehouse of Horror" episodes to date. So, they decided to finish them off, including the brand new 600th episode and the first non-"Treehouse of Horror" episode of the show that deals with Halloween. It's a blast. And every Halloween party needs music: "Ritual" by Ghost, "Gruesome" by Gruesome, "Tales of Halloween" by Jimmy Psycho, "Grownup Halloween" by the cast of The Simpsons, and "Halloween" by Mastodon. This week, Dread Media presents its (at least) annual conversation with our friend, filmmaker, writer, and film festival runner Gregory Lamberson. The fellas talk about Killer Rack on the festival circuit, Greg's first standalone horror novel Black Creek, the Buffalo Dreams Film Festival line-up, and the cult resurgence of Greg's 1988 classic Slime City. Rich the Monster Movie Kid comes on back to discuss this week's Bela Lugosi film in a review of The Devil Bat. And of course, there's music: "Working Class Hero" by Screaming Trees, "Killer Rack Title" by Armand Petri and Joe Rozier, "Diary of a Madman" by Ozzy Osbourne, and "Mission Creep" by Zombi. RIP Soledad Medrano. Send feedback to: feedback@dreadmedia.net, or 206.278.5257. Follow @DevilDinosaurJr and @dreadmedia on Twitter! Join the Facebook group! We love Slime City. So when we heard about Buffalo director Greg Lamberson's next project, Killer Rack, we were thrilled. On this week's podcast, we had a chance to chat with Greg, co-star/writer Paul McGinnis, star Jessica Zwolak and co-star Michael Thurber about their work on the movie, dubbed by one wag, "the wrongest film in the history of wrongness." If that's wrong, well...we don't wanna be right. This horror comedy is about a woman with low self esteem who opts for breast enhancement surgery, unaware that her surgeon, Dr. Thulu, worships H.P. Lovecraft's elder gods, and the surgery is part of a diabolical plot to rule the world. We talk about how the film came about, the involvement of Troma boss Lloyd Kaufman, Buffalo locales, casting, the effects, the film's incredible music, scream queen Debbie Rochon and much much more.
