Storytelling is a talent and a gift. A great storyteller can create a connection with their audience, evoke emotion, and leave a lasting impression. The best storytellers immerse us into their worlds and leave us wanting more. As more businesses explore storytelling as a digital content strategy, it's become an increasingly valuable tool in a marketer's arsenal, especially in B2B. When we story-tell we don't just create content, we create connection.  And as a result, an amazing phenomenon occurs.  We start to gain super fans of our work that eventually turn into our super consumers. And Disney is a company that has properly executed this idea and profited from this content strategy ever its inception. As I started to think about the best person to explore this topic with, I immediately thought of Hala. Why? Hala Taha is the founder and CEO of YAP Media, a social media and podcast marketing agency for top podcasters, celebrities and CEOs and more. Also dubbed the “The Podcast Princess,” Hala is the host of the Young and Profiting (YAP)  Podcast, frequently ranked as a #1 Education podcast and has interviewed star-studded guests from the likes of Matthew McConaughey, Deepak Chopra, Seth Godin and countless others. Hala started her career in radio production while in college at HOT97 on “The Angie Martinez Show.” Later, she launched an entertainment news blog site, “The Sorority of Hip Hop,” where she led an all-female team of 50 bloggers, she nearly snagged a reality TV show on MTV! She took a temporary exit from the entertainment industry to get an MBA and has 7 years of corporate marketing experience at HP and Disney Streaming Services. She started the Young and Profiting Podcast and YAP Media as a side hustle, scaling the business to 35+ employees before quitting her executive position at Disney to take the leap into entrepreneurship. YAP Media is now a premier social media and podcast production agency for CEOs, celebrities and top podcasters, with a dozen high-profile clients and nearly 60 employees. How?She has mastered the art of story through her personal branding, marketing, and podcast, and she's got over 150,000 super fans on LinkedIn to prove it!In this episode, Hala and Rita discuss:Hala's current business and podcast “YAP”Her thoughts  on how to turn super fans into super consumersTips on podcast storytellingHer mindset on creating content with intent to serve your audience, not yourselfHow she pushed through constant rejections in her life and finally found success through podcasting and LinkedInPersonal Branding: From 0 -150,000+ Followers and a Six-Figure Business. Hey everyone! You’re going to love this week's episode. I recorded it on an apple orchard (a literal dream come true for me since podcasts + apples are two of my favourite things in life!) but we get down to BUSINESS with Amelia and her dad Colin. I took away some powerful lessons from this episode. Here’s a quick synopsis: As a business owner, you should learn to be okay with financial risk Read the book The Lean Startup (HERE) Don’t talk about things, DO things! Look for grants that you can apply for If you want to start a business, make a business plan, encounter obstacles, fail, and just do it Today's interview... Amelia and Matt have been making hard cider since 2012, after they fell in love with the beverage in London, England. After successfully completing their post-secondary education, Matt and Amelia visited London, England. While they were exploring the culture in London, they stumbled upon traditional hard apple cider. From then on, they were hooked. On their return, they started experimenting with different blends of apple varieties from the family farm. Their recipe was perfected over many bottles shared with family and friends. They were destined for cider-making, obsessed with achieving exceptional taste using just one ingredient, apples. Passionate about cider and driven to succeed, Amelia and Matt started Apple Falls Cider Company. Their cider uses 100% Campbell's Orchards apples, hand picked from the family farm. The exceptional quality of the apples from Campbell's Orchards directly ensures great tasting cider. Today on the podcast I am chatting with Nikole Goncalves from HealthNut Nutrition! Nikole is the face behind one of the top leading healthy food and lifestyle YouTube channels in Canada called HealthNut Nutrition-- with a following of over 400K subscribers and over 26 million views. She's a passionate "health nut" who inspires her viewers to live an active, healthy and balanced lifestyle by showing how easy and delicious it can be. One thing I love about Nikole is that she’s SO much more than a health nut & YouTube maven. She’s a smart business owner. She’s a total visionary. She’s a leader in the online marketing & YouTube world. She’s inspiring & positive in the way she shares her heart and her business. And based on the amount of content she puts out, I know she’s a VERY hard worker! Nikole was gracious enough to allow me to come hang out at her HealthNut HQ to record this in person interview. After following her videos online for some time,  I was thrilled to meet her in person and discover that she is just as bubbly and kind as you see her convey on her channel. In this episode, Nikole takes us back to the early days of her channel (when far fewer than 400,000 eyes were on her videos), what motivates her to keep moving forward, how she made HealthNut Nutrition into a full time job, her favourite tools as a busy entrepreneur, and what’s next for the health nut community. Beyond the stunning photos that she captures: her energy is electric, her expertise is unparalleled and her zest for life and her business has helped her create a thriving photography business. Sara has waiting lists, books up years in advance, and has received all sorts of recognition on her images because they are truly unique. If you ask her to share her condensed bio- she would tell you that she’s a documentary wedding photographer for free-spirited + adventurous couples. She finds beauty in unexpected, in between moments on wedding days that are full of laughter, tears, stolen glances + extra long hugs. From knowing Sara for the past few years, I would also tell you about her drive to improve and grow her business (this year she reached some epic records in sales), her relentless pursuit of betterment through hiring coaches and working through online courses, and her ambitions for the future of her business and expansion. I can’t wait for you to her this conversation between Sara and I, learning all about her highs and lows on entrepreneurship-- and what it really took to build her portfolio to where it is today. 42% - No Market Need! This is the top reason startups fail, for according to a comprehensive research of entrepreneurs with failed companies. Hi Reachers, The REACH OR MISS podcast is all about being a customer focused entrepreneur. One and a half years ago, I decided to create this   podcast after I realized that most entrepreneurs failed because they didn’t understand what I call the magic of marketing. Marketing is magic; it’s all about being able to look at the market from the eye view of the potential customers. Entrepreneurs fail for two reasons; both of which are part of not finding the     biggest opportunity in the market: They didn’t find their most potential customers, those who will be the initial and secondary audience to adopt the new product. They didn’t manage to clearly define their new, unfamiliar product. Let’s face it; this is a huge challenge. Among the 120 startups and entrepreneurs we worked with over the last ten years, only in one company did the two founders define their product in the same way, with the same words. Most entrepreneurs tell a different story than their colleagues and even from day to day. My guests in the REACH OR MISS podcast are successful entrepreneurs and opinion leaders. I ask them about how they managed to find who their most potential customers are, and how it led them to reach their successes.   The issue of choosing the customers that are most likely to adopt, use, and pay for your product is one of the most important aspects of business success. In today’s show I’ve chosen to focus on some of the most important issue my guests talked about while answering the question about “Who are your customers, and how did you figured out that these are the best customers for you?   My first guest is Lance Scoular. For me, Lance is one of the best examples to how entrepreneurs succeed by focusing on their most potential customers. And how, listening to them led Lance to a very successful pivot. Lance Scoular, AKA The Savvy Navigator, has been involved in International Trade and Transport for 50 years. In 2008, Lance started receiving invitations from students in his classes to connect with them on both Facebook and LinkedIn. Over the last nine years, he has developed and expanded his social media networks exponentially (especially LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, Snapchat, and beBee) and those of a select group of clients in a variety of sectors, both locally and globally. The results have been significant. Lance is currently in the process of doing a 180-degree business pivot, refocusing away from Social Media Consulting, back to what he does best, International Trade and Transport Training. He will soon launch an online course, “Import Export Made Easy” in video and audio, as well as the “Import Export Made Easy” Podcast.   How Lance found his customers Back in 2009, I got very involved in social media. I was running an Import Export course, and I was getting invitations from my students to connect with them on Facebook and LinkedIn. In the beginning, I didn’t understand what they wanted from me, but once I Googled it, I got very interested in the business potential of these social networks. As we mentioned before, Australia was very isolated from the rest of the world, the Internet and social media, in particular, have changed that. In 2009, I decided to start helping people to use social media with no connection to import or export. (I still taught the import and export courses, but the number of courses dropped during those years.) And today, I’m pivoting since I just recently realized that I could help many businesses all over the world with my knowledge and expertise in Import and Export, so I’m about to launch my first online Import-Export course. The exciting thing is that I’m going to use my wide network of social media connections that I built over the last nine...

Lance Scoular Show Notes Lance Scoular, AKA The Savvy Navigator, has been involved in International Trade and Transport for 50 years; In 2008, Lance started receiving invitations from students in his classes to connect with them on both Facebook and LinkedIn. He is soon to launch an online course “Import Export Made Easy” in video and audio as well as the “Import Export Made Easy” Podcast. Lance’s career I started my business back in the early 1970s as a shipping supervisor in what is now known as Baxter International, a fortune 500 company. In 1976, I completed my studies at TAFE, which is the Technical And Further Education College in Australia, and I passed the exams of the Australian customs services. I took two weeks holiday from the company I was working in to door-knock local businesses in my area to see if I could find people who were dealing with exporting and importing that are interested in my services. I gained a few clients and resigned from the company. Most of my marketing was door knocking, and I used direct mail, and telemarketing with the Australian Yellow Pages. Import-Export is a very big deal in Australia. Most passionate about Today, I’m pivoting. Back in 2009, I got very involved in social media. I was running an Import Export course, and I was getting invitations from my students to connect with them on Facebook and LinkedIn. In the beginning, I didn’t understand what they wanted from me, but once I Googled it, I got very interested in the business potential of these social networks. The exciting thing is that I’m going to use my wide network of social media connections that I built over the last nine years to promote my course. Lance’s best advice about approaching customers The definition of a customer back in the 70s was someone who buys goods or services. I came across a marketing strategist, Sean D’Souza who wrote a book called, The Brain Audit, about why customers buy, and in that book, he talked about his concept of a client. He relates to Webster Dictionary which says, ‘If you are a service provider, the client is someone you should care for, someone who comes under your protection, and someone you should guide.’ I believe in the concept of care, protection, and guidance for your clients. Biggest failure with a customer Well, I’ve had failures… like most of the guests in your show. It’s a learning situation. Back in 2007 and 2008, I was running my own course, but I was also asked to be a guest presenter at the Sydney Community College, two courses for young entrepreneurs. One for young people that were thinking of becoming entrepreneurs and another one for those who are already entrepreneurs. On one night, I was asked by the course’s facilitator to share one of my business stories with the entrepreneurs. Some of the entrepreneurs were doing great things, and I didn’t want to...
