How to protect your privacy? How to stay safe while using your phone? Did you know that anyone can get your personal information and read your private messages? Here's a list of the most useful codes for smartphones all in one video, together with some instructions on how to detect intruders. The status of the different types of diversions that are taking place along with the number the information is being transferred to will be displayed on your phone's screen if you dial *#21#. It's a good idea to dial ##002# you have to use roaming. In this case, money won't be taken from your account for calls that are redirected by default to your voice mail. People usually don't reveal all that much in phone conversations. From the point of view of those who want to listen in, it's much more worthwhile to set up special devices ("bugs") in someone's home. Radio wave detectors can be used to work out whether such bugs are present in a building. Determine what information it's safe to make accessible to all. Be very careful when posting photographs of children. Only your mobile operator should ever offer you tracking services, and they should only turn them on with your explicit agreement. Websites and applications that offer to find out the location of other people are almost certainly acting with criminal intent. TIMESTAMPS *#21# 0:35 *#62# 1:21 ##002# 1:42 *#06# 2:03 The James Bond Code 2:39 Use Anti-Virus Software 4:28 How do the secret services listen in? 5:05 How can you protect yourself from criminals and spies? 6:06 Music: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/... #phonehackers #phonetracking #protectphone SUMMARY -With *#21#, you can find out whether your calls, messages and other data are being diverted. -Dial *#62# if you want to find out where calls, messages, and data are being redirected to if it seems that no one can get through to you. -##002# is a universal code for switching off all forms of redirection away from your phone. -Dial *#06# to find out your IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identifier). If you know this number, you can find your phone if someone steals it. -Special codes exist that allow someone to track your location and also to determine whether someone is following you. The ones to be suspicious of are mobile base stations — this could be a truck or small bus with a large antenna. -If you use Android, you should periodically check your phone for viruses. PlaceRaider is one of the most dangerous ones that can infect your device. -If a phone makes odd noises during a conversation, loses battery power rapidly, overheats, or unexpectedly restarts, this is merely an indication that you need to get it repaired rather than a telltale sign that you're being listened to. -Use messaging apps that are completely closed to outsiders, such as Telegram, Chare, Wickr, or Signal. Don't install unknown programs on your phone, keep close track of the apps you have installed, and use multiple security locks wherever you can. On The Cloud Pod this week, with the first half of the year full of less-than-ideal events, the team is looking forward to another next six months of less-than-ideal events. Also, everyone is excited to see how they can manipulate the AWS BugBust Challenge for a free ticket to re:Invent. A big thanks to this week's sponsors: Foghorn Consulting, which provides full-stack cloud solutions with a focus on strategy, planning and execution for enterprises seeking to take advantage of the transformative capabilities of AWS, Google Cloud and Azure. JumpCloud, which offers a complete platform for identity, access, and device management — no matter where your users and devices are located. This week's highlights AWS launches the BugBust Challenge in the hopes of finding and fixing 1 million bugs. The challenge aims to help developers improve code quality, eliminate bugs and boost application performance while saving millions of dollars in application resource costs. Google has announced new features for Cloud Monitoring Grafana plugins. The new features include popular dashboard samples, more effective troubleshooting with deep links, better visualizations through precalculated metrics and more powerful analysis capabilities. Azure VM Image Builder service is now generally available. Image Builder will make it easier to build custom Linux or Windows virtual machine images. Amazon Web Services: Does Not Have Bugs AWS announces the world's first global competition to find and fix 1 million software bugs. We don't think they're referring to Amazon bugs, just software bugs in general. AWS launches customized images for Amazon EMR on Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service. If you're looking to reduce the time it takes to build images, that's a good thing: otherwise it's a fully managed service, so we're not sure that users will care. Amazon announces new Java Detectors and CI/CD Integration with GitHub Actions for CodeGuru Reviewer. We're amazed by how quickly GitHub Actions is being adopted. AWS acquires communication technology company Wickr. We want to know why Amazon is buying this: maybe they're trying to enhance their enterprise and public sector application suites. AWS now supports container images to simplify continuous integration tasks. Continuing to build the ecosystem around serverless applications is a smart move by AWS. Google Cloud Platform: Smart Player Google announces that a new public dataset for Google Trends is now available for preview. This is really cool. Google introduces a new Tau VM family that extends Compute Engine's VM offerings. If you're using some of the older VM classes, this is a reminder to check out the new ones that could save you money. Google announces a new version of Transfer Appliance for the US, EU and Singapore regions. It's new and improved — they just haven't told us how. Google announces new features for Cloud Monitoring Grafana plugins. Grafana is one of our favourite visualization tools so this is great. Google launches three security and scalability improvements for Cloud SQL for SQL Server. This is a smart play: these capabilities will help differentiate Google's product offering through improved performance. Azure: Gives You Ingestion Azure introduces the Ingestion Client for Azure Speech. Getting a full-blown scalable and secure transcription pipeline is great, but we really don't like the name. Azure VM image builder service is now generally available. We've found a customer who is able to pay Hashicorp to update to Go. Azure has built a cloud adoption framework for retail. We hope they extend this beyond the Azure lens: it should tie back into the much larger digital transformation story for the sector. Azure has partnered with Red Hat to offer Red Hat JBoss EAP on the Azure App Service. It's nice to see digital app services available from Microsoft. TCP Lightning Round Justin stuns everyone with his multimedia power move so takes this week's point, leaving scores at Justin (11), Ryan (5), Jonathan (8), Peter (1). Other Headlines Mentioned: Expansion of the public preview of on-demand disk bursting for Premium SSD to more regions AWS DevOps Monitoring Dashboard solution v1.1 adds support for AWS CodeBuild and AWS CodePipeline related metrics CloudWatch adds 14 new Metric math functions Amazon DocumentDB (with MongoDB compatibility) Now Supports r5.8xlarge and r5.16xlarge Instances Configure GitHub Actions workflows with a new GitHub Action for building serverless applications AWS Control Tower announces accessibility, console and performance improvements AWS Client VPN launches desktop client for Linux AWS Lambda now supports SASL/PLAIN authentication for functions triggered from self-managed Apache Kafka Google joins the O-RAN Alliance to advance telecommunication networks Things Coming Up Announcing Google Cloud 2021 Summits [frequently updated] State of FinOps Update — July 8 (virtual) Amazon re:Inforce — August 24–25 — Houston, TX Google Cloud Next 2021 — October 12–14, 2021 AWS re:Invent — November 29–December 3 — Las Vegas Oracle Open World (no details yet)

The US government is once again looking to break or hobble encrypted communications in the name of national security and law enforcement. They claim that we're "going dark" - that modern end-to-end encryption used in apps like Signal and Wickr that protect user privacy are preventing them from keeping us safe and bringing the bad guys to justice. Cryptographers and technology companies have soundly squashed the idea of putting "backdoors" in these systems that supposedly only the "good guys" can go through. But now these agencies have come up with a proposal that neatly sidesteps these issues: they simply want to be added as another "end" to the end-to-end scrambled session. A "ghost" in the chat, and BCC that neither of the original participants are made aware of. But this has several problems, as well. In other news, FigLeaf has conducted a survey of users about online privacy that shows major shifts in thinking since just before the Cambridge Analytica/Facebook scandal; "pre-saving" new releases on Spotify and other music streaming services is allowing music companies unbelievable access to your personal info; and Mozilla (maker of Firefox) has created a creative tool that let's you fool online advertisers into thinking you're someone completely different.

We start Brakeing Down Security with a huge surprise! A 3rd member of the podcast! Amanda #Berlin (@infosystir) joins us this year to help us educate people on #security topics. During the year, she'll be getting us some audio from various conventions and giving us her perspective working as an #MSSP, as well as a blue team (defender). We start out talking about new #California #legislation about making #malware illegal. What are politicians in California thinking? We work through that and try to find some understanding. With all the various secure messaging systems out there, we discuss how why secure messaging systems fail so poorly with regards to #interoperability and the difficulties in getting average non-infosec people to adopt one. We also discuss #Perfect #Foward #Security and how it prevents people from decrypting old messages, even if the key is compromised. ---------- HITB announcement: “Tickets are on sale, And entering special code 'brakeingsecurity' at checkout gets you a 10% discount".
