This week on our podcast we are joined by the founder of Vintage Rides motorcycle tours, Alex Zurcher. He first started riding while seeking adventure in India, and fell in love not just with the Royal Enfield, but with exploring cultures found off the beaten path. He soon realized he wanted to share all of the authentic experiences he discovered, and Vintage Rides was born. 17 years later he offers this same style of moto adventure in 19 countries, and has become one of, if not the largest, motorcycle tour company. Wendy Crockett also joins us to share some more Vintage Rides experiences, and is available to answer any questions you might have. Jen and Matt from Utah share their Misfit for a weekend experience. From riding the Niken, wrenching at the garage, eating too many bakery treats, surviving the coastal fog and exploring a cave in a redwood tree, they had the full Santa Cruz experience. In a way, we have all been called to a Social Media Mission. But how does one go about doing that? Our two guests on this episode, Robert Walz and Dr. Jessica Zurcher, run a pilot program for the Church in Utah County. The full name of the callings they hold in the Church are to work with the Utah County Social Media Member Missionary Pilot Project. This is a multi-layered effort to develop curriculum and to test out different methods of helping members, even Return Missionaries with special language skills, the various ways that they can minister to others online and find referrals for the missionaries throughout the world. Robert Walz Bio:Robert Walz is an associate teaching professor. He received a B.A. in broadcast journalism from BYU in 1982. Walz began teaching at BYU in 2002. He started his journalism career as the weekend anchor at KIVI television in Boise, Idaho. Walz moved back to Utah in 1984, working as a reporter and anchor at KSL-Television for 15 years. He has also worked for KTVX Channel 4.  Walz is currently a reporter for Utah’s ABC 4 News. In 2004, Walz spent two days covering the destruction caused by hurricane Ivan in the Cayman Islands and the distribution of relief supplies sent by the LDS church. He did several live reports on irritable bowel syndrome and several more stories when he returned.  He also spent a week in Malawi, Africa collecting material for a project he is doing on the distribution of food to those starving due to drought in Africa. Later that year, Walz spent ten days in Peru during October following the distribution of wheelchairs by a Utah based humanitarian group. They also visited a remote village 75 miles down the Amazon River where the group built desks for a school. Part of the footage they shot aired on ABC 4 News. Dr. Jessica Zurcher Bio:Jessica Zurcher received a M.A. in Mass Communications from Brigham Young University (2011) and a B.S. from Brigham Young University-Idaho in Theatre and Speech Education, minor in English (2008). She has her Ph. D. from the University of Utah in Communications.   Her research interests include issues dealing with new media, education, and family communication—specifically, her dissertation focuses on societal perceptions of adolescent exposure to online pornography and parent-child pornography communication.  Zurcher has also worked as a co-collaborator on several research projects and is a published author in The Journal of Children and Media and Education Gerontology.  She has also presented at national communication conferences. In addition to her work in higher education, Zurcher serves as an influential educator in secondary education.  She instructs students in grades 6-12, developing and implementing curriculum for introductory and advanced theatre classes, English, film, and public speaking.  She has also taught undergraduate-level communication classes through Salt Lake Community College.  She and her husband reside in Lindon, UT and enjoy taking long walks with their two dogs, Max and Molly. A little about our guests. TERRY ANDERSON Terry is a native of Billings, MT and now resides in Tempe, AZ. The cold weather finally took its toll, and like so many others he made a move to the Land of the Sun. Terry attended the University of Montana (GO GRIZ) and Montana State University – Billings. He sold Real Estate for 20 years in Montana and brings to the table a wealth of experience in the art of negotiating contracts and helping buyers and sellers think outside the box. LORI ZURCHER Lori is originally from Iowa with intermittent stops in Phoenix, AZ and Billings, MT. She now resides in Tempe, AZ. Lori has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Iowa and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. Lori is the ultimate professional, and she brings a passion to the Real Estate profession not often seen. She loves showing homes. It’s like shopping on a really big scale. They are spousal equivalents, the older, politically correct term for “shacking up.” A little about their business. Terry and Lori have over 25 years’ experience in the real estate industry. They specialize in luxury properties. Lori loves working with the buyer and Terry’s strength lies with helping sellers prepare and sell their home. One piece of advice (the nutshell version) In the beginning, if you aren’t sure what your strengths and weaknesses are, try a little of everything. Keep coming together, inform each other of the results and figure out what each of you are strong in, weak in and make sure all points are covered by the best person to do it. Today I will be speaking with Ariane Zurcher, a Huffington Post blogger as well as creator of the blog Emma's Hope Book, a chronicle of sorts about her autistic daughter. She is one of the leading voices in the autism community and I had the pleasure of visiting with her one evening in June. Ariane and I discuss what it was like to go from knowing nothing about autism when her daughter was first diagnosed to being such a strong advocate for the autistic community. We briefly talk about inclusion and what that looks like in her family. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/think-inclusive/support
