Whether you own a small business, an entrepreneur, or starting a new business marking and sales are crucial to survival. Lisa dives deep into what it takes to be strategic in your business with your marketing. Key takeaways from Lisa You don't have to do everything in marketing. You don't need to do tens of thousands of dollars. You need to become a subject matter expert. It's OK not to work with everybody that you meet with. More about Lisa Raebel & Rebel Girl Marketing, LLC I have been in the sales and marketing game for over 25 years and it has been a wild ride! Marketing strategies today can get shaky if you do not start with a solid foundation of understanding of your primary audience, what resonates with them, and knowing where they hang out. Taking the sales perspective into consideration when developing marketing strategies is key to successful campaigns. It comes down to the basics: KNOW | LIKE | TRUST Rebel Girl Marketing was created to help business owners who know they need marketing yet have no idea where to start. Helping others get out of their own way to see how great they are and then finding a way to tell their world is what I love to do each day. First of all, I love talking about marketing... almost as much as my husband likes to talk about golf! :-) My goal is to get the audience to step back and look at their business, asking themselves if their message today matches their current goals and offerings. People married to narcissists usually have volatile relationships that are more prone to being emotionally abusive. Divorce is already a challenging process, and it is even more so when a divorcee is afraid of their partner. If you suspect your partner may be a narcissist, and you want to divorce them, you need to collect information and be as informed as possible. This will help you prepare for the process as much as you can. A strong attorney who will advocate for you is a key component to successfully divorcing a narcissist because oftentimes a narcissist will use mediation as a form of control. Organizational leaders have to balance competing values. What kind of worthy values and interests might ‘compete' with those called for by Feminist Leadership (FL) and how should leaders resolve those? When do leaders decide that they cannot consult everybody but need to make certain decisions within a small circle? Is this in conflict with the feminist leadership principles?I discussed these topics during an interview with Lisa Veneklaassen, Founder & Advisor, Just Associates (JASS)Lisa's BioOver 30 years of experience as Educator, Strategist, and organization-builder with a variety of social justice and women's rights efforts worldwide. Assistant Director of the Global Women in Politics program of the Asia Foundation.Lisa's work on integrating power and political analysis into development influenced and is used by many international organizations including Plan International, Oxfam International, and Action Aid International.Founder and now advisor of Just Associates, a global women-led human rights network of activists, popular educators, and scholars in 31 countries. In 2017 Lisa was named one of 200 Women Who Will Change the Way You See the World.Quotes"Feminist leadership poses that we come to work as whole persons, as political beings, shaped by race, gender, sexuality, ability and class""Feminist leadership is ideally suited for crisis situations such as currently with the pandemic given its focus on communications, transparency, the sharing of anxieties instead of 'let's all be soldiers'"We discussed:To what extent is there a tension between the felt need by some social sector organizations to move to leaner and more agile organizations and the practices of feminist leadership? How feminist leaders use a lens in understanding internal organizational politicsHow well has FL served organization during the past year of the pandemic related crisis, or during other periods of crisis?Lisa's book 'A New Weave of Power, People and Politics' is available at several online booksellers, including this one.Contact Lisa at lvk@justassociates.org Twitter: @LisaVeneKlasenLisa's LinkedIn profileClick here to subscribe to be alerted when new podcast episodes come out or when Tosca produces other thought leadership pieces.Or email Tosca at tosca@5oaksconsulting.org if you want to talk about your social sector organization's needs, challenges, and opportunities. You can find Tosca's content by following her on her social media channels: Twitter LinkedIn Facebook

What is your why?Your why helps you plan your life, set goals, it keeps you motivated in life. When you know your why, it helps you stand up to naysayers, and negative influence. Knowing your why helps you create a healthy outlook on life.To Reign in purpose means to know what your purpose is and why it’s important. Why it’s meaningful. We were not created to merely exist. To let life happen and live aimlessly. If you don't know your why, you may often feel as though you are just plodding along the path of life; allowing it to happen. Instead of living passionately and courageously. For anyone that is attempting to achieve something or reach a goal it is much easier to accomplish - if you have a reason for it. Consider people who are trying to lose weight. Nothing seems to work or it’s not sustainable for them until they uncover the true reason for why they want to lose weight. Or why they overeat. Your WHY can be basic or as deep as it needs to be as long as it meaningful to you.DO YOU KNOW YOUR WHY? Have you identified it for the various areas of your life?Consider some core areas of your life: Relationship – Health – Fitness – Education – Career – Finances – Community – Family – Spirituality -Entertainment.Are you satisfied with these areas? Are they producing what you desire for your life? Are they life-giving – meaningful? Are you meeting your goals and reaping good fruit? Or is there an area that feels draining? Do you feel helpless or hopeless? Do you feel like something is missing? Look at the areas of your life and examine if they are healthy. If not ask yourself why they aren’t. Once you know your why, you decide whether is beneficial, healthy or meaningful. The best way to discover your why is to be honest with yourself. Sit down in a quiet place and truly think about what it is you want out of life. And identify your WHY.Welcome to the REIGN in Purpose Podcast. With actionable strategies, growth mindset, and insight -  -  this podcast is your secret weapon to not only live your best life but to live a blessed life.Consider Reign In Purpose a master-class in personal and professional development. It’s time to live your life on purpose in your purpose so that you can reign in purpose.Contact Lisa at: lisahook@purposebourn.comPurpose Bourn Coaching:https://www.purposebourn.com/Blog: https://www.purposebourn.com/blog-1 FOLLOW US: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lisa_hooks_Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/LisaHooksLif...Twitter: https://twitter.com/purposebourn#lisahooks #businessmentor #lifecoach

Welcome to BUSY BRIDE 101, Wedding Planning Tips for the bride on the go and I’m your host, Lisa G. McMillan, wedding and event planner at  Exquisite Events and Consulting. Today’s episode is “Pivot My Wedding, Now”. When ringing in 2020 who knew how the upcoming year would unfold. Many have proclaimed this as the worst year ever! You may find yourself scratching your head wondering on occasion how your wedding plans were hijacked, and why things quickly started spinning out of control. But it's easy to label 2020 as a horrible period during your lifetime. Let's journey deeper and recognize your achievements or as I like to call them, victories as you plan your wedding. Victory Number 1: While postponing your event you learned how to decrease your guest count without looking like the bad guy. Look, you knew when you first created your guest list there were folks you really didn’t want to invite. This gave you the “out” you needed. So, instead of spending hordes of money on mediocre meals and drinks you decided to pivot and you chose to either one, splurge on elevated meals and signature drinks due to the smaller size or two, pocketed the cash and funneled it towards a down payment on your new home together. Victory Number 2: Remember the lighting package which included spotlights directed at each guest table and splashed along the walls for a burst of color? As an alternative, you and your fiancé came to a consensus to string an amazing canopy of twinkle lights on the patio in your parent's backyard. For added dimension and texture to your centerpieces you draped eucalyptus garlands and boat loads of candles to each dinner table. This is such a cost savings and it is just as beautiful as your original design concept. Victory Number 3: The initial idea was to illuminate your custom designed monogram onto the dance floor. When all along it became more interesting to view as it glowed on top of the water of your swimming pool surrounded by floating luminaries along the edges. Now, that’s how you stretch your imagination! It’s a game changer. Victory Number 4: Your 85 year old grandparents who are unable to be present at your ceremony eagerly await to watch you exchange your vows by live streaming it in their home as your cousin uses her laptop for easy viewing, safely set up in the living room.  Victory Number 5: Nothing beats a huge multi-tiered wedding cake with flowers cascading down one side of it. Even though your guest count was significantly down-sized, shockingly, you can still have your dream wedding cake. Your pastry chef can create a fake cake with multiple tiers. Each layer is made with foam and the outside has REAL icing! Unbeknownst to your attendees, the top tier is edible in your favorite flavor. Here’s how it works, once you cut your cake, the cake table is wheeled off to the kitchen where slices of sheet cake are plated and served with ease. You can have your cake and eat it, too! When you sit back and reflect on all the memories 2020 has brought your way, remember the good times. Yes, it includes the unexpected and the unprecedented. However, it’s uncovering your renewed energy to face changes head on, to create unique and budget saving options but most of all to celebrate love and togetherness. I'm not making light of the lives taken or financial burdens brought on by the pandemic. I simply ask you to rejoice in the happiness that only love can bring during tragedy. Continue to marvel at how you find solutions to a problem you didn't create or could control. You ROCKED 2020 and that's something to be proud of and celebrated! Backyard Wedding Wins During a Pandemic

Welcome to BUSY BRIDE 101, Wedding Planning Tips for the bride on the go and I’m your host, Lisa G. McMillan, wedding and event planner at  Exquisite Events and Consulting. Today’s episode is “Backyard Wedding Wins During a Pandemic”. Planning a backyard wedding may seem as easy as 1-2-3 but I wanted to point out a few elements to remember as we’re still navigating through the pandemic and muddling through its constraints. Tip Number 1: Depending on how much space or acreage you have in your backyard don’t fall in the trap of becoming too lackadaisical about the design, functionality, and most of all SAFETY of your guests and vendors.  So, let’s start with safety! At some point you’ll need electricity during your event. Even in this hi-tech world you probably don’t have wireless connectivity for all of your speakers, microphones, tent lighting, LCD projection or coffee urns. If you happen to fall in this category, I suggest you first,  identify where you’ll plug in your devices.  Then, hop in the car and get ready to buy a few power strips. Most pros supply their own power cords and know exactly how to cover them up without injury to your guests. They apply cord covers, mats, or adhesives to hide cables and so should you. Tip Number 2: Here’s another tip about safety. Add plenty of sanitizer in convenient areas for your guests. This is an outdoor event so place them at the back door of your home. Don’t forget about the small packets or pocket-sized bottles at each guest table. Tip Number 3: When it comes to design your backyard wedding can be as modest or elaborate as you want. Figure out where you want to exchange your vows. Is it under a sprawling oak tree you climbed often as a child? Or is it in front of the babbling brook where you first kissed your fiancé? Wherever it is, create a ceremony space overflowing with romance. Soften the look of hard wood and metal fences with delicate fabrics or light foliage.   Who said you couldn’t add clusters of flowers or ribbon on each side of the front and back rows? It’s your backyard, no rules here! Tip Number 4: If, at the last-minute rain threatens on your wedding day, look no further than your living room to say “I-Do”.  No worries here! Just place enough chairs for the immediate family to sit and everyone else can stand during the ceremony. You wouldn’t believe how many times an unexpected afternoon shower has been the backdrop for some of the most meaningful and unforgettable weddings. Tip Number 5:During the cocktail hour provide appetizers in individual sized containers or skewers. This is not the time for using the same serving spoon to scoop out spinach and artichoke dip. Let’s place a moratorium on unattended buffet stations which promote cross contamination. Yuk! Tip Number 6: When considering the functionality of your backyard wedding keep in mind how to handle your rental items. I know delivery of tables, chairs and linens may be a fleeting thought. But like all events you must check in the quantity delivered against the amount you ordered. By the way, they should match. When ordering napkins always order 10-20 more. It covers any dropped during service or if the caterer needs any for display purposes. Tip Number 7:  Make certain your tables and chairs are stored in a dry area away from moisture. Just make space in the garage or covered porch for this task. If you leave those items under your tent exposed without a tarp you run the risk of theft, wildlife destruction, and unanticipated weather issues. These suggestions are just a few of many ideas for your backyard wedding. So, stay tuned for more! Thanks for listening to BUSY BRIDE 101, Wedding Planning Tips for the bride on the go! Lisa is also life coach, holistic nutritionist, and podcast producer in Podcast Prosperity.  On the show Lisa walks us through a very important subject: self-talk transformation. If we think about even for a moment, it is obvious that we spend a good portion of our lives in active self-sabotage. Without meaning to, we get in our own way of progress and success with our own self-talk. What are you telling yourself? That you can't? That you are too old, too young, not capable, not smart enough? We limit ourselves constantly with our negative self-talk. What would happen, though, if you knew how to turn it all around? Lisa shares some of her personal techniques and secrets for transforming her self-talk, getting from a place of frustration to a place of purpose and ease. Her techniques are easy to adopt, and with some attention can form the basis of habits that encourage your success, not hinder it. Talk yourself out of failure and into success. Ceremony Musicians

Today’s PODCAST will cover working with ceremony musicians. Anytime you have the opportunity and financial resources to hire quality musicians, do it! Don’t get me wrong, recorded music works well but there’s an excitement and resonance that accompanies the sound of music wafting through the air played live, right in front of you. Tip Number 1:  When hiring musicians make sure it shows on the contract if they are playing the prelude music. The prelude music typically begins 30-45 minutes before the ceremony begins while guests are ushered to their seats. This point is crucial because most brides only think that you need 1hour for music and that’s not necessarily the case.  Allow me to break it down. During the processional, which is the entrance of the grandparents, parents, officiant and wedding party, you’ll need one song played while they walk down the aisle. A second song can be chosen as the bridesmaids and groomsmen are making their way down unless you decide to use the same song used earlier in the processional. Then, a third song for YOUR bridal entrance. Let’s not forget if you decide to have additional songs for the unity ceremony or a song before the pronouncement. But wait, there’s more. Musicians will need to play the recessional song as the wedding party exits the ceremony. As guests are leaving their seats you will need postlude music which is played until the last guest exits so this can be 5 minutes to 20 minutes of music and musicians are paid by the hour. Tip Number 2: Communicate clearly with your musicians the exact  location, time, and size of your event. This becomes extremely helpful if your venue has multiple spaces for ceremonies. Tip Number 3: Wedding musicians customarily have a list of songs for you to listen to online and they definitely should have a list of songs they can send you for consideration. I had a consultation with a violinist once over the phone with the bride. During the call the bride asked if he knew a particular song, I can’t remember the title. But he said wait a minute let me play a piece of it for you right now. Within seconds we had a mini concert performed over the phone. It was absolutely a treat for our ears and needless to say he was hired! Tip Number 4: If you have a special song request not listed in their suite of music usually, they’ll download the sheet music, learn the song and charge an additional fee. Tip Number 5: Also, on the contract it should indicate what instruments will be used. For example, if you want a duo that consists of a violin and cello it should reflect that on the contract. Tip Number 6: Whenever musicians are playing an outdoor event they need and should be set up in a shaded area or under a tent. Their contracts will also stipulate what weather conditions in which they will not play. Tip Number 7:Musicians usually wear black clothing to events. However, some of them are open to wearing your choice of outfit. For instance, instead of men wearing suits they may wear a dress pant and shirt without a tie. Just discuss wardrobe preferences during your consultation. Tip Number 8: As the musicians are setting up for your ceremony, they’ll want to know who is going to give them the cue to begin music. If you have a wedding planner or coordinator then they will check in with each other and discuss cues. For outdoor weddings I have a retractable five-foot-long white flag, otherwise know as my wedding wand that I wave discretely away from guests but in full view of the musicians when it is time to begin each piece. Tip Number 9: Find a reputable company that’s professional, a website to listen to their music and one who provides you with a contract. Tip Number 10:Have fun selecting the music for your ceremony and work closely with the musician regarding your preferences. In episode, "Wedding Cake: Do I Really Need One?" explores the options of various desserts to offer guests instead of cake. Special occasions are a great dessert option but not everyone likes cake. Here are just a few ideas to consider for your wedding reception. This Episode’s Tips, Trends, and To-Do’s So, let’s jump into our episode! Today’s PODCAST will cover the ever tasty topic of Wedding Cake: Do I Really Need One? Let me admit, I believe cake should be eaten at every celebration with a ½ cup of icing on the side to wash it down instead of a glass of milk. It’s my happy place. Now, for those of you who aren’t as enthusiastic as I am about cake I’ll provide you with several five alternatives to consider to offer your guests. Tip Number 1: Pies, Tarts, and Cookies! During warm and humid receptions held outdoors these treats are more tolerant when displaying for a few hours. There’s less likely no melting of icing or perhaps your cake tilting like the leaning tower of Pisa. When discussing your options with your cake baker or pastry chef inquire about miniature sized versions which look absolutely chic on your dessert table. Let your creative side lead you and think about mixing the level and sizes of the platters. Try this, think displaying your sweets vertically  to create dimension instead of each item horizontally. Tip Number 2: For those of you who want cake but not a multi-tiered and want to keep costs down cake consider ordering a small cutting cake It’s just big enough for you and your new spouse to cut and to feed each other. Tip Number 3: Back in the day it was such a huge trend to order a wedding cake with fake tiers. You would never know some of the tiers were fake until you tried to cut it. This option gives you the appearance of a multi-tiered cake. Once you cut your ceremonial slice from the tier that is REAL, the cake table is wheeled away unbeknownst to your guest a sheet cake is available in the kitchen and cut and served on trays to everyone. Oh, the secrets of the wedding industry! HA, HA Tip Number 4: Instead of cake I had a bride and groom totally change up the tradition of sharing their first bite of sweet deliciousness on their wedding day. They ordered huge tubs of various ice cream flavors and toppings along with platters filled with brownies. So, instead they shared their “FIRST SCOOP” in front of their loved ones. It was a HIT! To this day I still smile thinking about that moment. Tip Number 5: Doughnuts, whether sprinkled with powdered sugar or simply glazed to perfection is a wonderful choice. Have you seen the doughnut walls or doughnut towers on the internet? It’s genius!  I once had a bride so obsessed with the love of Krispy Kreme doughnuts she bought the two pack containers for each guest and we displayed them on the table. Welcome! Do you believe your personality and fate is written in the stars? Join us as we welcome Astrologer and Yoga Instructor, Lisa Turner. Many of us are aware of our Sun Sign and may even allow it to define us, but are you aware there are deeper layers? These layers may be uncovered by taking a look at our Natal Charts. Our Individual Natal Charts are conceived the very minute we are born and they record not only our Sun Sign but also where all other celestial bodies are located at the time of our birth. Through the study of Astrology we are able to see how every planets’ position is able to make up who we were born to be. Lisa dives even deeper into natal charts and believes we can compare the current positions of celestial bodies (transit) to our natal chart and it will tell us what we are up against. Astrology has stood the test of time and we believe there is a reason for that. Are you a non-believer? Give it a listen and see if it resonates with you! Lisa Turner is available for Natal Chart Readings and can be contacted through email at Sage.at.stonehaven@gmail.com Lisa also leads workshops in Astrology in the Cleveland area. Jim is an experienced coach based in the Metro Atlanta area and is a huge asset to this blossoming business. The other two mentors on board so far are Gianni Ross and Sam Riffice. They hope to eventually include some female mentors, too.  Through their new venture, these young men hope to meet with and advise those coming up behind them. Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton has represented Washington, D.C. for 25 years, but her responsibilities are different than those of other representatives. Because Washington, D.C. is not a state, she doesn’t have a vote on the House floor. This would seem to make her job more challenging than it is for other representatives but she has risen above this limitation time and again, finding creative ways to demonstrate the importance of legislation that matters most to her district. She shares some of those stories in our discussion. Congresswoman Norton was born and raised in D.C. during a time when schools and restaurants were segregated. She was one of the only African-American women at Antioch College, one of the only women at Yale law school, and she has fought for civil rights throughout her life. She is inspired by stories about her great-grandfather – a slave who escaped to D.C. and was able to thrive as the capital city grew. She is a loving mother and grandmother who describes herself as a “type A – oldest child."     Listen to the podcast to hear Congresswomen Norton discuss:  Why D.C. residents pay the highest Federal taxes per capita, but have no vote in the House or Senate The complicated legislative process that must happen in order for D.C. to become a state and gain full representation in Congress. How the National Rifle Association (NRA) was able to stop that process in 2009. The notion that the first born comes into the world and doesn’t have role models, so she strikes out on her own. (Hint: Eleanor was first born!) Encouraging young women to look at others who have achieved great things such as Harriet Tubman. See the link to her biography below.  Eleanor's biography,“Fire in my Soul,” that tells the story of how her great-grandfather, Richard Holmes, escaped from slavery and thrived in Washington, D.C. How Richard Holmes avoided being captured and how that taught Eleanor the value of thinking and planning ahead Civil Rights progress and the work that remains Legislation championed by the bipartisan Congressional Down Syndrome Caucus  The Able Act which helps disabled people to engage in banking and saving, and helps move them toward independence Founding the Caucus on Black Men and Boys with Representative Danny Davis and bringing Trayvon Martin's parents to the Hill to testify The connection between the loss of stable manufacturing jobs and the breakdown of the family in African-American communities The effect of 70% of children in African-American communities being raised by a single mother Her thoughts on the first African-American President and the possibility of the first women President of the United States Ways to effect change even when your political party is not in power Cultivating a relationship, a friendship really, with the Republican Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich, and how that kept D.C. open during government shutdowns Revitalizing areas of D.C. in ways that don't displace residents Getting in exercise during her busy day The joys of spending time with her grandsons Enjoying D.C.'s green spaces including Theodore Roosevelt Island, Rock Creek Park, The Mall, Dupont Park, and Kenilworth Park  Lunchtime Music on the Mall, an initiative to encourage Federal employees and others to use the Mall during the day Quotes from Congresswomen Eleanor Homes Norton   “If you sit around thinking about how difficult something is instead of how to go about doing it, even if incrementally, you just won’t get there.”   “Read about the lives of people who accomplished great things under great duress.”   “You’ve got to understand the progress you’ve made, but any satisfaction with it is deadly, and will keep you from moving forward.”   Contact Lisa at Lisa@EverBetterU.com

In 2015 Greta Schaaf graduated from a public high school in northern, VA. She had applied to, and been accepted at, University of Delaware but she didn’t feel quite ready to make that transition. Taking a gap year wasn’t an option that was widely discussed at her high school but she followed a hunch that it might be a good path for her and attended a gap year fair. Representatives from various programs were discussing options involving travel and adventure and some very large price tags. Americorps didn’t have a table at the fair but someone there suggested that she look into it. Greta did her research and learned that Americorps is a one year volunteer program that pays participants a stipend, a modest scholarship, and offers the opportunity to earn college credits. Greta applied for a program on the west coast, and after some frustrating bureaucratic delays that she describes in the podcast, was accepted. Through AmeriCorps, Greta has been able to travel, see the world, and work with amazing from across our nation. The skills that she gained during that time are sure to serve her well as she now prepares to begin her college career. Greta has a family connection to the Ever Better Podcast. Lise Metzger, Greta’s mother, was my guest on podcast episode 26, Grounded Photographer. Lise is a photographer and writer who documents the lives and work of women farmers on her blog, GroundedWomen.com. In our podcast discussion, Lise talked about her daughter’s gap year and the great experience she was having. That piqued my interest because my son is a high school senior, so I pay close attention when someone discusses the paths that students are taking after graduation. In fact, if you know of someone who is considering post-high school options, send them a link to this podcast so that they can learn from Greta's experience. Listen to the podcast to hear Greta discuss: Her decision to take a gap year and the leap of faith that guided her to Americorps Diversity in Service Learning credits that she earned that will apply at U. Delaware Accepting the program on short notice Packing everything she would need for ten months into a green military bag, a couple of hours before catching her flight to California How AmeriCorps is structured Why the travel and the focus on the environment made the National Civilian Community Corp (NCCC) a good fit Environmental stewardship projects including: Removal of invasive species Cleaning habitat areas Learning about the drought in California The San Jose “Keep Coyote Creek Beautiful” Project as well as her interaction with the “Downtown Streets Team,” which helps the homeless transition into housing and job The way that AmeriCorps pays individuals for their project work How her team pooled their money to shop for food Learning about budgeting and food shopping Why her dad says “You look so much older. You’ve gained so much experience. This year has been so good for you.” Her mom’s initial concern that she would not want to go to school after this experience Why some colleges are recommending a gap year Long-term contacts and networks that Greta gained through AmeriCorps Greta's plans to do another AmeriCorps program after college Quotes from Greta: “I am so glad I got into AmeriCorps!” “I am ready for school now. I wasn’t really ready last year.” If you have a question for Greta send it to Lisa@EverBetterU.com and I'll get it to her!   Contact Lisa:  Lisa@EverBetterU.com @EverBetterU
