Many people aren't going back to their jobs post-COVID. Some of the reasons they have given include: (1) they have a public-facing job and are afraid of being exposed to COVID, (2) they have had a few months off from the job they hate and don't want to go back, (3) they have driving anxiety and haven't had to face their commute for a few months, and (4) they are essential workers who want to make a career change, so they are not exposing themselves and their families to COVID, as they have had to over the past few months. Hey!
On this episode, I interview Sam Kamani, author of The 30 Day Startup and Co-Founder & CEO of ProductDoneIf you are in any way involved with a startup this one is a must-listen. Sam breaks down the components of building a successful startup as well as the common mistakes he sees new founders make. With two successful startups under his belt, Sam made the decision to give back to other founders by forming his company that specializes in helping quickly develop a minimally viable product, commonly known as an MVP. With a belief that every unicorn starts with an MVP, Sam shares some of the ways he's able to rapidly deploy a go-to-market product. He talks about the value of testing, gathering feedback, and iterating to make improvements early in a company's life cycle. He also shares why user engagement, not acquisition, is the result needed in today's noisy world. He explains that solving a problem may not be the only factor to consider when designing a product, and share how rigidness in product concept often leads to failure. Sam is an expert in understanding why some companies make it while many fail and provides a depth of knowledge that will help anyone starting a business.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/bePatron?u=23010497)
If you want to grow your wealth, you have to have systems and processes in place to help you keep track of it in the first place. We talked about this in episode 48, and today we're hearing from another accounting expert who has some tips to make your bookkeeping simple, easy and consistent. Meryl is a Chartered Accountant who specializes in cloud accounting software Xero. She founded Bean Ninjas in July 2015 with $1,000 following Dan Norris's 7 Day Startup methodology. Now 4 years later the company operates in the US, UK and Hong Kong and has a distributed team of 15 people. Meryl and I talk about why it's so important to keep good records from the beginning of your business - even if you only have one rental property. We also chat about what Bean Ninjas does for clients, how to effectively keep track of your receipts, and what you need to know about how to use your accounting software. In Episode 15 of the Charity Charge Show, Stephen Garten chats with Shayna Dunitz, the former Director of Operations at 3 Day Startup and the current Chief Operations Officer at Central Athlete. 3 Day Startup (“3DS”) teaches entrepreneurial skills to university students in an extreme hands-on environment. This proven program provides students the tools they need to start successful companies. Over 12,000 3DS alumni from 400+ programs across 6 continents–at over 150 schools including Harvard, MIT, WHU (Germany), Technion (Israel), and the University of Texas–have launched more than 90 companies that have collectively raised $130 million in investor capital. Over 38 companies emerging from 3DS have been accepted to prestigious accelerators such as Y Combinator, TechStars, and Capital Factory. While early programs focused strictly on technology- and web-enabled startups, demand has led the team to expand the program to function across broader entrepreneurial endeavors. Schools have hosted 3DS programs focused on themes such as social innovation, energy, culinary, hardware, and more. Foregoing a grant-supported model, the founders developed an earned-revenues strategy—3DS charges universities, governments, and corporations to deliver programs—which allowed the organization to grow in a scalable and sustainable way while preserving mission autonomy. Running 3DS as a successful business operation keeps entrepreneurship in the organizational DNA and allows the organization to remain faithful to the philosophy of learning-by-doing.

Founders and entrepreneurs are typically in control. They’re motivated, logical, and driven. But there’s one area that often escapes us: our own health. But if we aren't sleeping, or exercising, and if we’re constantly eating fast food, and stress has overtaken our lives … are we really the leaders? That’s the question Shayna Dunitz asked on this episode. She’s the COO of Central Athlete, an Austin-based fitness center. Before she started at Central Athlete, she worked for 3 Day Startup, where she helped entrepreneurs reach their dreams. Far too often, she observed amazing leaders who were taking charge of everything … but their own health. On this episode, she gave some practical advice to entrepreneurs to get the most ROI from their sleep and health habits.

Spirit of 608: Fashion, Entrepreneurship, Sustainability + Tech
What are you thankful for? This week's episode features a guest I'm so thankful to have met and had the opportunity to work with this fall through the State Department's Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative. As host entrepreneur taking part in the program this year, I was lucky enough to be paired with the very first female founder of a repurposed fashion startup in Peru. On this week's show, we dive into her story, how she got to where she is today and key information any ethical brand should have before sourcing textiles and materials from her home country. Meet this week's guest, Dana Vidal, Founder of Remodela Fashion Lab. Sign up for the PressDope weekly email to get DIY PR tips and The Dope List of media opps, calls for pitches, FEST events and more ways to raise your visibility. What you'll learn It’s not everyday we get a designer from Peru, so we decided to ask her what the sustainable fashion space looks like from her side of the world! Dana Vidal of Remodela Fashion Lab says that Peru is famous for its fabrics made from alpaca fur, however, there are issues behind this luxurious textile that rarely get discussed. Thanks to a harsh climate where alpaca thrive best and poor working conditions all around them, alpaca workers are faced with a tough and, very often, inhumane way of life. Dana explains why sustainable brands and ethical fashion entrepreneurs need to check out manufacturing partners carefully before using this high-end fabric. How you'll be inspired Dana had one of the best deals anyone could ask for: a high-paying job, a fancy title, and career security. When she gave it all away, no one in her circle could fathom her reasoning. Dana, however, knew exactly what her why was, and she also knew that was chasing her passion for fashion and making a positive impact meant more than a corner office. Was it scary? Of course it was. But she took the leap to follow her startup dream all the same. Hear why and how she did it in this episode. What you'll tell your friends While Dana knows for sure that her passion for the environment came from her mother, her love for fashion is something that popped up out of nowhere. When she was young, she could always remember wanting to pick up a pair of scissors and remake things. Dana says she’d often wonder, “Why should I wear the same skin like everyone else? So boring!” We’re definitely happy Dana was showing some FEST-y characteristics as a child and that she ended up choosing the route that she did! Resource of the week Shut it down: the best tech tool Dana can recommend? Well, it's the least techie of them all: this startup founder says simple, close your computer. She swears by stepping away from the screen to stay organized and on the right track. This book is really important to me. Not because it holds inside it the secret of the universe - it doesn't. Instead, it simplified down all the things I had been thinking (literally for YEARS,) got me out of my own head and started me on the path to my own business. If you're like I was, and paralysed by inertia because you can't decide on what direction to take or what to do next, this book is a must read for anyone starting out. Stay in your head, you're dead. I only review books that I give 5 stars. This is one of them! I'll try to get a book reviewed most weeks because reading is what? FUNDAMENTAL. Stay emPowered, Beck

The Business Method Podcast: High-Performance & Entrepreneurship
“Validation is not something that really works for small unfunded businesses.” Dan Norris Imagine spending seven years as a failed entrepreneur. Imagine, the strains of selling your product and more money goes out of the bank account each month than comes in. Imagine trying to pay rent, maintaining personal relationships and having a family. Every time you think about going back to get a job, you feel sick to your stomach. It is a challenging path, and one that many entrepreneurs experience on one level or another. Today's guest is Dan Norris, the founder of WP Curve and The 7-Day Startup movement. Dan went through this exact process as a failed entrepreneur. Then one day, he had an idea for a business that his fellow entrepreneurs thought wasn't a good idea. He decided to launch the business anyway. Within 23 days Dan was profitable. Within 2 years he hit $1,000,000 in revenue and within 3 years he sold that business to GoDaddy. Dan is now the author of four books and has now opened his own brewery in Australia. Join us for the incredible story of Dan Norris as he goes from failed entrepreneur, to building a 7-figure location independent business, selling it, and then starting a location dependent business. “(I) started WP Curve pretty much out of desperation.” Dan Norris 02:51: Gold Coast, Australia 03:35: Seven Years of a Failed Entrepreneur 06:50: What Kept Dan Going Through 7 Years of Failed Businesses 08:25: Getting the Idea for WP Curve 09:35: Managing a Family During the Low Times of Entrepreneurship 10:23: When the Monetary Shift Started to Happen 16:49: The 7-Day Startup 20:14: Create or Hate 23:06: Black Hops Brewery 24:00: Transitioning From a Location-Independent Business to a Location-Dependent Business Honorable Mentions: WPCurve https://wpcurve.com/ Dynamite Circle Forum http://dynamitecircle.com/ Xero https://www.xero.com/ InfusionSoft https://www.infusionsoft.com/ The 7-Day Startup by Dan Norris http://7daystartup.com/ Content Machine by Dan Norris http://contentmachine.com/ Operation Brewery Podcast http://blackhops.com.au/operation-brewery-podcast/ Operation Brewery by Dan Norris http://dannorris.me/books/ Create or Hate by Dan Norris http://dannorris.me/books/ The 7-Day Startup Facebook Group https://www.facebook.com/groups/592264044218722/ Contact Info: http://dannorris.me/bio/ Instagram: thedannorris Twitter: thedannorris Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/dannorrisinformly http://dannorris.me/ Subscribe to our podcast on iTunes https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/entrepreneur-house-live-in/id1069958541?mt=2
My guest today, on the Steve Jobs inspired Join Up Dots free podcast interview is a a guy who it seems is a born entrepreneur with a fascinating story to boot. Which makes him a perfect guest for a show like Join Up Dots. Growing up on the Shetland Islands – the most northerly tip of the UK, his first taste of entrepreneurship was running a small Dropshipping business whilst still at school. At 14, he used to buy electronics from China and sold them on eBay whilst building his first ever website at 14 years old, which still gets sales to this day! Leaving the islands at aged 18, he knew University wasn't for him and lucky enough to be accepted into the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy in Manchester. As he says “The academy was an incredible experience – one in which I was pushed out my comfort zone on a daily basis, whether that was pitching, networking or just having to work incredibly hard. Things that are now a normal every day thing for me now – but certainly weren't back then! It was in Manchester I launched a corporate well-being company called Alba Fitness, where he used to place personal trainers into corporate environments (such as call centres) to run corporate fitness programmes. However it really started to come together for him, when he realised that the trainers were generally terrible at marketing themselves. Secondly, he was reading a book called the 7 Day Startup – a book all about (you guessed it) launching a business in 7 days. On June 21st 2015, he finished the book. On June 29th 2015, Blue Cliff Media was born. He offered social media and community management services at the beginning but eventually carved ourselves a nice wee niche in Facebook advertising. The business continues to grow and have some amazing clients all over the world. So looking back on his life on the Shetland Islands, was it a blessing or a hindrance to his entrepreneurial venture? And is he where he wants to be in his life or simply on the first rung of what he can now see is possible for him? Well let's find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Gavin Bell Show Highlights During the show we discussed such weighty topics with Gavin Bell such as: How Gavin managed to get his business up and running as a small school boy even buying and selling belts on vacation Why networking and pitching his business is such a huge part of his business strategy. You have to get out from behind your pc! Gavin recalls the moment when he decided to pivot from his business Alba Fitness, and learn from what it had given him (or more often that not didn't give him) Why FB ads are an amazing way to grow your business, but you have to let then run before seeing the results. Its all about data after all. and lastly…. Why it is so powerful to show your successes and failures to the world. Reality is today's marketing strategy that works.

I'm delighted to be joined by Dan Norris, whose book "The 7 Day Startup" had a tremendous impact over on this side of the pond when it was released. Dan is an award winning content marketer and the author of the bestselling business books "The 7 Day Startup", "Content Machine", "Create Or Hate" and "Operation Brewery". If you haven't read "The 7 Day Startup" and you're interested in business, go and get it now. It's amazing. The Dan Norris Interview Nicola: In June 2014, after failing at entrepreneurship for seven years, he founded WPCurve.com, a worldwide team of WordPress developers providing unlimited small fixed and support 24/7 for $69 a month. It became profitable in just 23 days and 14 months later has 21 staff, 500 customers, and continues to grow at 15-20% a month. Dan is a passionate content marketer and has created 600 plus pieces of content around entrepreneurship, WordPress, and online marketing. In 2013, he was voted Australia's best small business blogger by the readers of Telstra's Smarter Business Ideas magazine. In 2014, Dan released his book The 7 Day Startup, which became a top 10 bestseller in three Amazon categories, and I know personally has changed the life of entrepreneurs across the globe. Welcome to the call, Dan. How are you? Dan: I'm very good. I'm a bit flattered after that intro. Nicola: No, it totally is true. I can't remember how it came on my radar. I think my sister Sarah alerted me to it. She was reading it and she was in the middle of trying to get something going and it just had such tremendous effect on her. I bought it as well and read it in a weekend. The clarity. I honestly think it's the best book since the Lean Startup books for new and aspiring entrepreneurs. Dan: That's very nice of you to say. I really wasn't sure when I pulled the trigger to put it up there. I really had absolutely no idea whether anyone was going to grab it. What's happened since has been a big surprise. Nicola: I'm sure. Let's go back. Let's go back. Obviously I've read your story in the book, but I want you to share with my listeners in 84 countries now how you became an entrepreneur, what kind of background you came from, and how you got through all those years when it just wasn't working. Tell us all about you. Dan: You've mentioned the seven years of running my previous business, which was a web agency. I think I probably wanted to be an entrepreneur a long time before that. Probably another six years before that when I was at university, but I didn't launch anything. I kind of came up with ideas reasonably often and I did subjects at university and did planning and that kind of thing, but I didn't actually launch anything. 2006 it was, when I was 26, I was working in a good job and I always thought I would be an entrepreneur at some stage, so I decided that that was the time and I left a very good job where I was getting paid very well, I didn't have to work all that hard, I was getting a promotion just about every year, and I didn't really have anything to go to. Luckily, I had a wife who was earning an income and we could get by if everything went really, really bad. I just left and I started building websites for people and I just slaved away at that for seven years. Just could never really make it work. I was always able to make enough to pay a really small wage, but I was never able to grow it really significantly. Even in year seven, I wasn't making any more profit than I was making in year one. It was just making more revenue, but more money, more problems type thing. Listen to the interview for Dan's full story... If you prefer to read, Dan's full interview featuring his mind, marketing and money tips for entrepreneurs can be discovered in the book "Mindset, Marketing & Money - Vol 1" by Nicola Cairncross, available globally on Amazon UK | Amazon US

The Get Paid Podcast: The Stark Reality of Entrepreneurship and Being Your Own Boss
This week, I am excited to have the opportunity to interview Dan Norris, co-founder of WP Curve - a service-based company specializing in helping entrepreneurs fix WordPress problems - and the author of “The 7-Day Startup” book. Dan explains his rocky road to success, starting (and failing) several startup businesses throughout the years before collaboratively working to create WP Curve. We talk about the ups and downs in his business journey, suggestions and advice that he received before launching WP Curve, and the many lessons that he feels every aspiring startup business owner should know before starting their business. Dan also shares a little information about his Australia-based craft beer brewing company and how starting this business is very different from developing a successful online startup. He explains his idea of “differentiation,” the difference between a startup and a full-fledged business, and provides tips on what he believes new startup business owners should focus on and what they should “forget about.”
I'm so excited to get the chance to catch up with Dan Norris in today's podcast. He's the kind of guy who knows how to get stuff done and this was a great interview as he shares with the audience how he attains much of his success. Dan started his online career through blogging. He's always been a content machine, but it wasn't until just a few years ago that he started writing great content that gained traction. This traction led to his first book, and perennial best seller, ‘The 7 Day Startup.' He's never been able to sit on content after it's created, so as he wrote the book over a handful of weeks, he would publish parts of it as whole articles on his blog to see what stuck with readers. When it comes to creating content, Dan doesn't have any kind of daily rituals to force him to churn it out. Instead, he writes in short bursts when he feels the inspiration to do so, and only on things that really interest him. (that's the key!) “It's quite easy to write a lot when you're actually really into it.” Of course the book turned out great, and with the aid of a community Facebook group, he was able to get the word out about it and elicit many great reviews. He now has two versions of popular 7-Day Startup membership groups; the free Facebook group, and a paid membership site where users get advanced support on their business and access to educational content. To help manage these groups, he depends on the support of his assistants. This is another process that Dan leverages to free up his time: utilizing low cost support to do the bulk of the necessary tasks that help with nurturing the group. Some of the things that his VAs handle within the group: Welcoming new members Posting the weekly topic to spark conversations Promoting the paid-group within the free group Drafting the weekly thread summary email weekly tasks that would otherwise take up too much of Dan's time Outsourcing is a cheap way to get really good people. He works with a small team in the Philippines where the cost of living is much cheaper, so the lower wage is actually quite good. Protip for outsourcing: For each task you hand off to your VA, Dan recommends creating a set of instructions using text, images and video detailing exactly how it should be done. There's some hand holding in the beginning, but repeat tasks get learned quickly and you'll eventually start saving yourself loads of time. Dan is definitely a doer, and a go getter and he embodies the boldness that is being the person that will put themselves out there while others sit back and watch. He believes, If you do this enough, you will get rewarded. He notes that for someone like him, the entrepreneurial life is naturally where he belongs. He felt out of place doing anything but, and he likes the freedom of being an entrepreneur and the rewards it brings. “The people who get rewarded are the people that just do the work” SOME QUESTIONS I ASK: How did he reach such a large audience with his first book? Does Dan have a daily writing habit that helps him pump out the content? Can he explain the process of outsourcing to a VA in the Philippines? Has he transitioned to outsourcing his content creation? How did Activision (creators of Call of Duty) come to contact him to create the Black Hops beer? IN THIS EPISODE, YOU WILL LEARN: How Dan gets away with not having a daily writing habit How his VA helps him with his valuable Instagram account The reason why you may want to use a personal brand to support and share your products Plus much more… DON'T STOP HERE… Connect with Dan Norris: Website | Instagram | Twitter | Snapchat 7 Day Startup: Website | Facebook Delegate your Instagram Marketing Strategy for $30 per Week: Article Starters & Makers: Website | Facebook Black Hops Beer WP Curve ADDITIONAL RESOURCES: The Dynamite Circle: Website The Bold Life Movement Book: Facebook Group
Dan Norris, co founder of WP Curve, talks about how he and his team raised enough capital in order to sell his award winning craft beers in just two years. With the helping hand of finance from the first ever crowd-funded brewery campaign via Pozible, together with the backing of a small handful of astute investors, and one very supportive landlord they were able to launch June 18th, 2016. One of the most important aspects of your business as a youpreneur is growing your community. While there are plenty of ways to do this one of the most effective of late is offering a challenge. Someone who did this very successfully recently is Dan Norris. You may recognize Dan as the founder of WP Curve and a previous guest on the show. But today he's here to talk about using challenges to grow your audience, something he recently did for his launch of 7 Day Startup. On this episode of Youpreneur FM we talk about his one week challenge: how he brought 3,000 people into it in a short amount of time, how and what kind of quality free content he provided as well as what the challenge has meant for his business now and in the future. If you're at all interested in growing your community - and I know you are - you'll want to tune in for this one! Essential Learning Points From This Episode: What is a freemium model and how did Dan use it for his challenge? Should you ever charge for a challenge or a webinar? When did I play Cupid successfully?! What Dan learned about using a challenge as a lead generation tool. How he used Blab as the primary content delivery option for his challenge. Much, much more! A viable startup business in 7 days ... sound to good to be true? Dan Norris is the co-founder of WP Curve, a service that offers unlimited 24/7 WordPress support for small jobs for $79 per month. He went from idea to paying customers in less than 7 days. Based on his experience, Dan penned the bestselling book The 7 Day Startup, and stopped by The Side Hustle Show to share some of his insights.
...And Content and Metrics. In my last solo show I shared with you guys that there were a couple of opportunities for me to collaborate with people. Well... I almost jumped the gun on yet another collaboration with someone else! I know, I know. We both got caught up in the moment, sat with it for a few days and when we had our next call both decided that it was a complete distraction and NOT the direction either of us wanted to be heading in. Which brings me to the IDEAS part of this episode. As an entrepreneur we're NEVER lacking ideas... in fact, there's often a plethora of them that tend to be more of a distraction than anything else. The crazy thing is that for me, I allow these distractions in, even though I know in my GUT that I need to stay focused. What I've learned about these distractions lately is that it's more a part of my process than anything else. And I don't buy into every distraction. I usually have a few different things going on at any given time. I've read all the books (The ONE thing, Essentialism, etc.... which btw are GREAT books), but I also know myself and how I operate. I have two VERY clear priorities in my business right now. And then there are a handful of 'side' projects that I have going for me. The difference with the side projects for "me" and the collaboration projects is that I'm not responsible to anyone else for the work that does (or doesn't) get done on these side projects. They're something I play with when I need a break from everything else I'm doing. When I want to 'play' with something that doesn't require me showing up as Kim Doyal. Part of my journey in ALL of this is to genuinely show up as myself, which I love (as scary as that can be). But it can also be a little tiring at times. When you make a conscious decision to put your name and face on things you want to do it in a way that serves your audience AND you. No one can do that 24/7. So what do you do with all these fantastic ideas? That's up to you. You need to figure out what works best for you and run with it. Here are a few things I do with these ideas: Here's what I DON'T do: Shift my priorities so any of my new 'ideas' overtake my focus and before you know it I'm exactly where I was a few months ago. I see this happen over and over and over again with people. What they're doing isn't working the way they want (hear producing the income they want) so they jump ship too early. Instead of tweaking and measuring what they're working on, they give up and jump into something else. There's also that entrepreneurial rush that kicks in when you come up with an idea that lights you up! And it's pretty addicting. Which is where the Content and Metrics come in. Unless you have an unlimited budget for advertising, you're going to have to create content. [tweet_box]"Unless you have an unlimited budget for advertising, you're going to have to create content."[/tweet_box] It's not just that 'content is king', like we've all heard over and over again. Content is REQUIRED. Content isn't just about SEO, indexing and keywords. It's about building relationships and trust in a way that makes people want to do business with you. It's providing value before people hand over their hard earned cash. Lately I've seen a LOT of discussion around people who aren't going to keep giving things away. Some think the 'free model' doesn't work anymore, do people really care about opt-ing in for your free guide, ebook, cd, audio, course, etc.? I don't have the answer to that (nor do I care to get into a discussion or debate around it. Not because it's not a worthwhile topic, I simply don't have the energy). What I DO know is that people who do content marketing RIGHT are killing it. Take a look at Dan Norris as an example (founder of WP Curve and author of The 7 Day Startup and newly released Content Machine). Dan literally is a machine when it comes to content (I'm hoping to have him...
