Buongiorno, mi chiamo Marica Iannuzzi e sono una studentessa dell'Università di Zurigo.Quello che avete appena ascoltato è l'incipit di Il lonfo, una delle fanfole più famose di Fosco Maraini. La sua raccolta è stata pubblicata per la prima volta negli anni '60 ed è stata riedita nel 2019 dalla Nave di Teseo con il titolo Gnosi delle fanfole.Ma cosa è una fanfola? Esperimenti di poesia metasemantica – così la definisce l'autore stesso nell'introduzione. Un componimento poetico, quindi, con il quale il poeta sperimenta la poesia (meta)semantica, una poesia che va “al di là” delle parole. Le parole sono apparentemente senza significato, ma rispettano le regole della grammatica e della metrica e i suoni richiamano a qualcosa di conosciuto.Il padre della fanfola è Fosco Maraini, autore italiano, amante e insegnante di lingue e culture orientali e padre della nota scrittrice Dacia Maraini. Nasce nel 1912 a Firenze e nel ‘38 si trasferisce con la famiglia in Asia, dove rimane fino al ‘45 per poi tornare in Italia. È a lui che si deve anche la nascita del termine metasemantica, la tecnica letteraria usata proprio nella sua raccolta di fanfole.La raccolta Gnosi delle fanfole di Fosco Maraini può essere considerata un capolavoro d'invenzione letteraria che raccoglie esperimenti straordinari. A prima lettura i testi possono sembrare confusi, insensati, enigmatici, ma leggendo e rileggendo si possono carpire immagini e narrazioni che – pur travalicando il lessico comune e ordinario – si rivelano linguaggio comunicante. Perché è proprio il linguaggio il vero protagonista. L'autore accosta liberamente parole, il cui suono richiama a forme e a strutture conosciute. Ogni fanfola ha un titolo e ognuna racconta qualcosa e ha un senso proprio. Alcune hanno un tono ironico, altre malinconico, altre ancora esprimono dichiarazioni d'amore o domande esistenziali.Per l'autore la parola è una caramella, qualcosa da rigirare tra lingua e palato con voluttà, a lungo, estraendo fiumi di sapori e delizie. Le parole sono evocative, la fanfola è un testo evocativo, nel quale chiunque, leggendolo – e l'autore consiglia di leggerlo ad alta voce – troverà il proprio significato.E il bello, per me, sta proprio in questo: decifrare una lingua privata e segreta e assistere a veri e propri spettacoli di magia realizzati con le parole. Suzanne is joined by Dr. Paul Winner, the Senior Director of the Premiere Research Institute and Attending Neurologist at Palm Beach Neurology in West Palm Beach, Florida. Dr. Winner says, “We've been through research for a very long time. Most of our patients and research are actually the patients from our practice. We've been doing the best we can to try to help them. It has been hard. It has not been easy for many years. But things have changed. About three years ago, we started to get a much better understanding of this illness. We had some of the right medicines, the monoclonal antibodies to remove amyloid. We just didn't have the right dose, and we were studying them for too short a period of time, because we didn't understand the disease and what was happening. That has changed. We now understand to use the higher doses. We have a better handle on determining what side effects will occur in what patients. So we have bio markers that let us know: this is an Alzheimer's patient, this is a patient who has this genetic profile, this is the right study for them, this is the right monoclonal for them, because we already know the paradigms. We didn't know that many years ago, but we do know that now, and now we're seeing that we need a little more time. Patients have to give us a little more time. The medicines are working, but many of them take a year, two years, to really show that clinical response that we want to see. So that's very important, and that's part of learning and educating. But probably the most important thing to take away is that it's not just one or two medicines anymore. We are going to use multiple medicines depending on the situation. “But the very first thing you have to do is get diagnosed correctly. So if there's any history in your family of dementia, even if it wasn't diagnosed as Alzheimer's, you need to be evaluated, if you're 50 or older, because that's where most of our studies start, we may even go younger than that. Definitely by 60 you need to start to be evaluated to see if you have those risk factors in your family. If you're not, and your family's lived to 105 and no one's ever had dementia, you may not be at risk. Still not a bad idea, though, at least by 60 or 65, to start getting an occasional neuro-behavioral assessment. Get a baseline of where your cognitive function is. Get a baseline of how your brain is working. We have something called an EVOX. It's a very easy machine. It's a much more sophisticated machine than an EEG. They're a little expensive and hard to do right now, because we don't have enough machines in the country. But eventually they shouldn't be as expensive, and they can be used as a screen. No amyloid, you don't have Alzheimer's. Present, doesn't mean you have Alzheimer's yet, doesn't mean it's gonna be bad yet, but you do have to follow up. You can't just forget about that, because we can take it out and get you better if it is something significant.” “Right now, the most advanced evaluations and the most advanced treatments are inside the research. We are still recruiting for this new targeted Athira 1017, the FOSCO, we still have some recruitment going on. We're also recruiting for many of the other studies as well. Right now, all these bio market tests, different ones are done for different reasons. Many of them, you get a PET scan or a tau scan, some of you get both, some of you get the whole thing, some, you just get segments that are needed, to prove whether the medicine is working or not working. All of them have neuro-behavioral testing done serially throughout, to see how you're clinically doing. But what's more important than anything: how you're doing, and we can monitor that. How are you doing with your family, how is the caregiver doing? You can't just use medicine alone as well. You still have to do exercise, you still have to do diet, you still have to control the blood pressure, it's like any chronic illness. Fatigue is a condition characterized by extreme feelings of either physical or mental tiredness. One study shows that rhodiola (Rhodiola rosea) can be used as an herbal medicine for fatigue. People who are experiencing fatigue can have symptoms like sore muscles, lack of motivation, headaches, drowsiness, and irritability. If fatigue lasts for one to six months it can be classified as prolonged fatigue. However, if it goes beyond that it is already classified as chronic fatigue. Studies show that a third of the adult population has experienced chronic fatigue at least once in their life. With the high prevalence of chronic fatigue, it is unfortunate that there is still no standard medication available for it. Previous studies have shown that rhodiola can reduce symptoms in people suffering from mental fatigue. In addition to this, animal studies have also revealed that rhodiola can stimulate physical work capacity. For this study, which was published in Complementary Medicine Research, the researchers looked at rhodiola as a potential medication for prolonged and chronic fatigue. Researchers performed a clinical trial with 100 participants suffering from either prolonged or chronic fatigue. Although the trial lasted for eight weeks, significant improvements in fatigue symptoms were already observable after just one week. Further improvements could still be observed throughout the trial period. Furthermore, no adverse effects were observed with rhodiola intake. Parenting practices in teen years set the stage for closeness, warmth later on Penn State University, October 5, 2022 High-quality parenting practices in adolescence lay the foundation for close parent-child relationships when the children become young adults, according to new research from Penn State. The study is one of the first to examine how changes in parental involvement, parental warmth, and effective discipline during adolescence predict the quality of the relationships between parents and their young adult children, said Greg Fosco, professor of human development and family studies and associate director of the Edna Bennett Pierce Prevention Research Center at Penn State, who was co-principal investigator on the study. The study's findings were published recently in Developmental Psychology. The research team surveyed 1,631 participants in a long-term research study of families in rural and semi-rural Pennsylvania and Iowa who completed surveys between sixth and 12th grades and again at age 22. “Our research showed that parenting can change a lot during the teenage years: parents often express less warmth and affection, spend less time with their teens, and become more harsh in their discipline. Parents that were able to maintain positive parenting and involvement laid the foundation for a close relationship when their teens became adults,” said Fosco. Staying involved in teens' lives may look different than when they were younger, and it can be challenging to stay close with teens as they seek greater independence and autonomy, Fosco acknowledged. Based on the study's findings, he suggested these activities: Do something together, like playing sports, bike riding, exercising, going for a walk, gaming, cooking, attending events, or going out for a meal or dessert. Work on a project together around the house. Talk about what's going on at school. Discuss what you want to do in the future. Further, adolescents who experienced higher levels of parental warmth in the early teen years reported feeling more closeness and warmth with mothers and fathers when they were in their 20s, Fosco said. The study also found that parents who were skilled at using effective discipline with their sixth grade children — and maintained these effective practices over the course of adolescence — had less conflictual relationships when their children were in their 20s. Lifestyle Influences Metabolism Via DNA Methylation Helmholtz Zentrum Munchen (Germany) September 20, 2022 An unhealthy lifestyle leaves traces in the DNA. These may have specific effects on metabolism, causing organ damage or disease. Scientists of Helmholtz Zentrum München have now identified 28 DNA alterations associated with metabolic traits. This world-first epigenome-wide association study (EWAS) of modified genes and metabolites has been now published in the journal Human Molecular Genetics. In the course of life, aging processes, environmental influences and lifestyle factors such as smoking or diet induce biochemical alterations to the DNA. Frequently, these lead to DNA methylation, a process in which methyl groups are added to particular DNA segments, without changing the DNA sequence. Such processes can influence gene function and are known as epigenetics. To this end, the team analyzed blood samples from more than 1800 participants of the KORA study *. In doing so, they analyzed more than 457,000 loci in the DNA as to biochemical alterations and compared them with the concentrations of 649 different metabolites. The analysis showed that the methylation of 28 DNA segments changed a number of important metabolic processes. In the relevant DNA regions there were also already known disease-related genes: for example, the TXNIP gene that regulates glucose metabolism and is associated with the development of diabetes mellitus. Appropriately, with the methylated TXNIP there were altered concentrations of metabolites from the lipid and glucose metabolism. Also genes that are known to be biochemically altered due to smoking affect different metabolic activities, and specifically those with corresponding biological functions. “This study gives us new insights into how lifestyle factors can influence metabolism via the resulting alterations in the DNA,” said Gieger, research group leader at the IGE. “We can now use these results to develop new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for lifestyle-related diseases such as diabetes.” Exposure to fluoridated water and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder prevalence among children and adolescents in the United States: an ecological association York University (Ontario), September 30, 2022 Epidemiological and animal-based studies have suggested that prenatal and postnatal fluoride exposure has adverse effects on neurodevelopment. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between exposure to fluoridated water and Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) prevalence among children and adolescents in the United States. Methods: Data on ADHD prevalence among 4-17 year olds collected in 2003, 2007 and 2011 as part of the National Survey of Children's Health, and state water fluoridation prevalence from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) collected between 1992 and 2008 were utilized. Results: State prevalence of artificial water fluoridation in 1992 significantly positively predicted state prevalence of ADHD in 2003, 2007 and 2011, even after controlling for socioeconomic status. A multivariate regression analysis showed that after socioeconomic status was controlled each 1% increase in artificial fluoridation prevalence in 1992 was associated with approximately 67,000 to 131,000 additional ADHD diagnoses from 2003 to 2011. Overall state water fluoridation prevalence (not distinguishing between fluoridation types) was also significantly positively correlated with state prevalence of ADHD for all but one year examined. Conclusions: Parents reported higher rates of medically-diagnosed ADHD in their children in states in which a greater proportion of people receive fluoridated water from public water supplies. The relationship between fluoride exposure and ADHD warrants future study.

El equipo de rodaje de la serie Rapa se despidió hoy de la comarca en la que a lo largo de los últimos meses se han rodado en diferentes localizaciones las escenas que formarán parte de la serie de Movistar + dirigida por Jorge Coira. Después de que en estos últimos días viesemos al plantel de actores y actrices, así como al resto del equipo rodando escenas en las instalaciones de Fimo convertidas en el cuartel de la Guardia Civil o en las escalinatas del Jofre convertidas en la entrada de los juzgados, fue precisamente la terraza del Jofre la que sirvió esta mañana de escenario para la foto de familia en la que Pepe Coira, co-creador de RAPA, Alfonso Blanco ‘Fosco’, productor ejecutivo de RAPA y el miembros del elenco gallego de la serie en la que participan Lucía Veiga, Eva Fernández, Ricardo de Barreiro y Mabel Rivera entre otros posaron junto a una representación de los concellos de Ferrol, Narón, Ortigueira, Valdoviño y San Sadurniño, en los que además de Cedeira se desarrolló el rodaje. Acudió también Jacobo Sutil, el Director de AGADIC. Protagonizada por Javier Cámara y Mónica López y creada por Pepe Coira y Fran Araújo la serie cuyo estreno se preve a lo largo del proximo año se inicia con el asesinato de una alcaldesa de un pueblo durante la tradicional rapa das bestas y dará pie a la investigación de un crimen que tiene a Tomás el personaje interpretado por Javier Cámara como único testigo. Rapa consta de seis episodios de 50 minutos y estamos deseando verla.

Most accounts say the Negroni is based on the Americano, with Campari as the featured ingredient in all of its bitter, bright red glory. The Negroni is what happens when the Americano gets more American, and by that I mean dumping the soda and adding more booze. Unfortunately, gaps in the timeline and sparse written evidence make it difficult to have a nice clean evolutionary trail from the Americano to the Negroni. We have the invention of Campari in 1860 and the appearance of the Americano in the late 19th and early 20th century, originally with just bitters not necessarily Campari. There is also the supposed creation of the Negroni in 1919 and the notable omission of Negroni recipes until the 1950s, when dare we say, James Bond might have had a hand in popularizing it? Factor in cocktails with identical ingredients and different names appearing in recipe books in the 1920s and 1930s and you have yourself a nice little fruit punch colored puzzle. That doesn’t even include the conflicting claims of inventing the cocktail! A number of parties want credit for creating the Negroni, and since they all have the last name Negroni this should be easy to pull apart, right? Was it Count Pascal Olivier de Negroni presenting a cheap wedding gift to his new bride in Senegal? Was it created by the Negroni Antica Distilleria? Or is it a product of a wealthy Italian Count? This tends to be the favored origin story. Following his stint playing cowboy, riding horses and gambling in the American West, Count Camillo Negroni returned to Italy. Wanting a bit more kick to his Americano cocktail, he told the bartender to spice it up with some gin and the Negroni was born. Sounds simple and believable, but did he really create it or just popularize the drink of a Florentine barman named Fosco? Either way, we might be looking at a bartender doing what they do best, adding more alcohol to drinks and making them taste good. In addition to unraveling the origin story of the Negroni and the life of a cowboy count, we explore the attempts to spread democracy throughout Europe after the successful American Revolution and Giuseppe Garibaldi and his role in the unification of Italy. Like many Europeans, 19th century Italians looked to America for a better, fleeing from war, famine, poverty, and volcanic eruptions. We also dive into the Italian influence in the American West and a possible connection to Spaghetti westerns. So grab a Fosco, and join us for our discussion of the Negroni and the Americano.
