The New York Yankees have been among the best teams in the #MLB this season. Heading into their 50th game, the #BronxBombers currently stand at 33-16 and have a two-game lead in the #ALEast. This could be due to many factors, like the outstanding pitching from both the rotation and the bullpen or the big bats coming to life.As we reflect on the Yankees' performance this season, what aspect of their game has surprised us the most? One of the key factors behind the Yankees' success is the outstanding performance of #JuanSoto and #AaronJudge. Both are among the top players in baseball, but who has had a more significant impact on the team's performance?Who do we think is the best player on the Yankees right now? Is it Judge, or is it Soto? (FYI, we all disagree once again)

Majora Carter, an urban revitalization strategist from the South Bronx, argues that gentrification starts when people don't see the value in their own neighborhoods. That's why her approach to community development is centered on creating incentives to encourage successful people to stay in the low-income areas they grew up in. She joins Errol to talk about her new book: “Reclaiming Your Community: You Don't Have to Move Out of Your Neighborhood to Live in a Better One,” where she outlines her strategies to create prosperous local economies and shares her experiences going up against what she calls the “non-profit industrial complex.” JOIN THE CONVERSATION Join the conversation, weigh in on Twitter using the hashtag #NY1YouDecide or give us a call at 212-379-3440 and leave a message. Confidence is what sets some apart, and confidence is what can make or break you in the sometimes biased industry of modeling. Chela appears to have broken the stereotype, with her urban, gritty New York City style way of approaching accomplishment. Her views and attitude are a reflection of where she comes from and what she's been through, and although some may point out the fact that she at one time was a dancer, she's given her all to excel. She actually quit dancing, and began her picture campaign that has proven to garner the attention that some might shy away from, never-the-less, the attention she's gained has taken her places. She's propelled herself from the whirlwinds to becoming a consignment store owner. Listen in as i'm sure she will surprise some, because contrary to what most would negatively think, (Based on her photos and previous career) she's actually pretty smart.
Black lives New York City President Hawk Newsome stopped by and talked about the controversy surrounding the incoming mayor of New York, Eric Adams. Hawk, a controversial person himself, displayed some of the reasons he feels the way he does, and attempts to explain his rationale that frightens some people. His no non sense approach borderlines what mainstream media calls terroristic threats. Although he has a fierce way about himself, some may relate, depending on where you come from and how you grew up. Either way, is violence a way to get your point across? Listen and decide for yourself.

"400 meters to go". "200 meters to go". Steve Jobs diceva “The journey is the reward” (“Il viaggio è la ricompensa”). Miglio 24: Finalmente a Central Park! Miglio 21: Welcome to the Bronx! Interview No. 59 with Matt Caughthran from The Bronx, Mariachi El Bronx, and The Drips.
Multi-instrumentalist Joby Ford took a break from the camping life to talk tone with Ross. You might know Joby as one of the founding members and guitarists of The Bronx, maybe for his guitar or vihuela or jarana or accordion work in Mariachi El Bronx, maybe for his surf guitar sounds in Pounded By the Surf, and beyond.... Regardless, was stoked to get him out of the tubing tides of Tennessee to take a dip in some soundwaves for this enlightening chat. The Bronx is currently on tour with Rancid and Dropkick Murphys to celebrate the release of their sixth album: the aptly titled "Bronx VI" and it is an absolute banger of an album. In this episode, we talk tone, amps, strings, pickups, effects, moshing, skateboarding, being a dad, and beyond... This episode is also graced by the additional music of one of Joby's other bands: Pounded By the Surf. Keep up with all things The Bronx at www.thebronxxx.com Scope Pounded By the Surf here And be sure to catch The Bronx when they roll through your town with either Rancid/Dropkick or Every Time I Die later this year. If you want to hear more of this conversation, the extended version is available to patrons on all tiers at the Rigs of Dad Patreon page. More gear talk, more riff talk, Pat Smear's mythical guitar, filling in for Slayer, touring with Clutch, and more laughs. This week with special guest Coach Lex, the ladies will be discussing how a single, Latina mother from the Bronx has broken into the world of elite athlete training. Coach Lex is a Strength and Conditioning Coach and Performance Specialist. Her clients include NFL, NBA, and MLB pro athletes. She is also a strength and conditioning coach for an all girl Olympic track team. Under her many titles, she's also a Sports Manager, helping her athletes develop their athletic and performance establishments. She is owner and founder of Lex Kinect Sports LLC and she's going to share how she accomplished all of this while raising two young kings. Lex is candid about the biases in the industries, the assumptions, and discrimination she's endured based on her culture and looks. But none of this has stopped this unapologetic woman. She has risen from the ashes and will not allow anything to keep her from her goals. So grab your cafecito, sit back and get ready to be edutained with Coach Lex and The Ladies of El Salon. The ladies are now recording with Riverside FM and if you'd like to watch instead of listen, head on over to YouTube and check out the video version of the podcast. Lloyd Sederer, M.D., is currently an adjunct professor at the Columbia University School of Public Health. He has won many top awards in the field of psychiatry, and he has served as a leader in the field of public health in New York for the past two decades. In the 90s, Dr. Sederer was the chief psychiatrist at McLean hospital, the psychiatric teaching hospital for Harvard Medical School. He has published thirteen books, and he has published hundreds of articles in top medical journals and newspapers. What is the future of the treatment of addiction? According to Dr. Lloyd Sederer, the path to saving more lives from addiction going forward will involve providing better access to the tools that we already have. We already have harm reduction strategies, including the opioid overdose rescue drug, naloxone. And, we have effective medication-assisted treatments for opioid use disorder and alcohol use disorder. Our understanding of the functioning of the brain is more advanced than ever before in history. A wide variety of therapies can be applied to target various regions of the brain that are affected by addiction. In addition to existing medications and therapies, there are also new medical treatments on the horizon, including the drug, psilocybin. With psilocybin, an existing, ancient form of medical therapy is being brought up to date with current medical science. Safe, synthetic forms of the drug have been studied in major research centers with promising results.Just as important as therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and contingency management, and medications, such as methadone, buprenorphine, and naltrexone, are the forming of relationships to promote abstinence and recovery.Dr. Sederer believes that, to be successful in helping people to recover from active addiction, we must meet them where they are and understand why they are using drugs or alcohol. Drugs serve a purpose for people who use them and it is important to start from there and work towards helping them find healthy replacements for drugs when they are ready. In our talk, Dr. Sederer and I discuss two of his recent books. We talk about “Ink-Stained for Life” and “The Addiction Solution.” Both books are fascinating and I highly recommend them to my audience.“Ink-Stained for Life” is a collection of fourteen stories and essays relating Dr. Sederer's early life as a child in The Bronx to his adult life and the present, in 2020. The book demonstrates the improbable nature of the path from living as a child, on the streets of New York City, to being a leader in public health in the State of New York. The book shares Dr. Sederer's philosophies on life with discussions about topics such as intelligence and genius, wealth and struggling in the middle class, Judaism and being Jewish without living as an observant Jew, living in New York City, being the leader of a world-class psychiatric hospital, working in the world of public health in New York City and New York State, addiction treatment and much more. Please visit Dr. Sederer here: https://www.askdrlloyd.com/Please visit our podcast website here: https://therehab.com/And Dr. Leeds' website here: https://drleeds.com.Thank you!

Hi Lovelies! The podcast is back after a few weeks on hiatus. Tune in to enjoy my chat with public speaker and YouTube personality JaiLynn about being true to yourself and feeling happy on your own path.
"Men seldom make passes at girls who wear glasses." It’s a quip attributed to writer, poet and critic Dorothy Parker. She also once said “a silver cord ties me tight to my city.” Her city being New York City. Dorothy Parker lived an extraordinary life in the Big Apple, but what happened after she died is also extraordinary. It’s a story that was literally put to rest this summer amidst the coronavirus pandemic. More than 53 years after her death, Dorothy Parker’s ashes were interred at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx. It’s a tale only our guests on this week's Cityscape could tell well. Kevin C. Fitzpatrick is the head of the Dorothy Parker Society. He’s also a professional tour guide and author. He along with The New Yorker Writer, Laurie Gwen Shapiro, brought Parker’s cremains to the Bronx from Baltimore, where they had been interred at NAACP headquarters. It’s quite the story!
Alan Kaufman is lucky to be alive. In this podcast, the writer and poet traces his lineage back to his parents, who met in New York in the 1940s. His dad was a Jewish gangster, as Alan describes it, and his mom was a French Jewish Holocaust survivor. Alan details a trip to Europe he took in 2014. His hosts in Zurich drove him to the mountains in Northern Italy where his mother and grandmother hid during World War II. He fast-forwards to his parents' meeting and starting a family in the Bronx. When he was a teenager, he picked up a copy of On the Road, and the book ended up inspiring his move out west. Please check back Thursday for the continuation of Alan's story. We recorded this podcast outside of Alan's home in Oakland in October 2020. Photography by Michelle Kilfeather

There's growing concern about the disproportionate impact of coronavirus on Black and Brown people, immigrants, and others who make up the majority of Bronx residents. That’s one of the many reasons The Bronx Covid-19 Oral History Project exists. The group of Fordham University students, scholars, and community leaders are making it their goal to capture the voices of the borough’s residents. The initiative's intent is to better understand how the Global Pandemic is impacting Bronx communities. Fordham Conversations host Robin Shannon talks with The Bronx Covid 19 Oral History Project's Executive Committee. They include Carlos Rico, Veronica Quiroga and Faculty Advisors Dr Mark Naison.
