Royal favourites, we want your voice notes in our new miniseries on historical failures. Look out for Producer Al's callout post on patreon.com/thisishistory England's grip on France is collapsing. After more than a century of brutal conflict, English forces across the Channel are exhausted, bankrupt, and beaten down. In London, hopes rest on King Henry VI — now an adult and expected to rescue his father's dying empire. But Henry is no warrior king, and the French are dismantling England's hard‑won gains with shocking ease. Then, a new force enters the fray: Margaret of Anjou. Young, formidable, and newly crowned Queen of England, she becomes a lightning rod for ambition, fear, and bitter factional rivalries. Some believe she can save England's fortunes in France; others fear she is about to upend the entire balance of power at court. As defeat looms and alliances fracture, this episode traces how Margaret of Anjou steps into a failing war — and begins reshaping the fate of the Hundred Years' War, the English crown, and the violent political battles still to come. – And don't forget, you can now WATCH every This Is History episode on YouTube. Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for February 3, 2026 is: hornswoggle HORN-swah-gul verb To hornswoggle someone is to trick or deceive them. // I think we were hornswoggled by that magician. See the entry > Examples: "Netflix users have been warned to look out for an insidious, AI-powered email scam that looks nearly indistinguishable from the real deal. ... If you have been already hornswoggled by such a scheme, Netflix advises changing your password and reaching out to your bank." — Ben Cost, The New York Post, 3 Mar. 2025 Did you know? Hornswoggle is a slang word of some considerable mystery, at least where its etymology is concerned. The word appears to have originated in the southern United States in the early 19th century. The earliest known written record comes from an 1829 issue of The Virginia Literary Magazine in its glossary of Americanisms. The magazine states that hornswoggle comes from Kentucky, and that its oddness matches nicely with other 19th-century Americanisms, such as sockdolager, absquatulate, callithump, slumgullion, and skedaddle. While the exact point at which hornswoggle entered our language, and the way in which it was formed, may remain unknown, it is a charming addition to our language, joining bamboozle and honeyfuggle as colorful ways to say "to deceive."

What if there's one part of your job you're uniquely built for—and it checks all these boxes? Others consistently see you as exceptional at it You genuinely enjoy it and want more time doing it It gives you energy, even on hard days You never feel "done" improving at it If you know what this activity is, you've identified your unique ability, as defined by business coach Dan Sullivan. Unfortunately, most people spend their entire careers without ever pinpointing it—robbing both themselves and those around them of their natural strengths. Many construction owners, project managers, and superintendents feel exhausted, frustrated, and stretched thin—not because they lack discipline or skill, but because they're spending the majority of their time working outside their unique ability. In 2022, Jennette McCurdy shook the culture with I'm Glad My Mom Died, a brutally honest memoir that spent more than 80 weeks on The New York Times bestseller list, sold more than 3 million copies, and is now being adapted as a series for Apple TV+. But more than anything, the book marked a turning point for McCurdy as she reclaimed writing—not acting—as her true creative home. Now, she's pushing her passion even further with her debut novel, Half His Age. The book follows Waldo, a 17-year-old student who enters an affair with her married English teacher. It's an unsettling, razor-sharp examination of power, consent, female rage, class, and consumerism. In this conversation, McCurdy unpacks her writing process (it's a full-body endeavor), the discomfort she's intentionally leaning into, and what it means to take full authorship—and creative control—of her career. We tend to take the index of a book for granted, but centuries ago, these helpful lists were viewed with suspicion. Some even worried that indexes would harm reading comprehension! A witty new book tells the story. Plus, the Latin term bona fides [BOHN-ah FYDZ] was adopted into English to mean "good faith" or "authentic credentials." But there's more than one way to pronounce it. And: say you're off at summer camp, and there's a container in the dining hall labeled ort bucket. What will you find if you look inside? Also: crisp, with one foot in the milk bucket, a brain teaser about nicknames, French gestures, Dutchman, million-dollar family, dungarees, scared water, and nuking food. As the killing of Minnesota resident Alex Pretti by federal immigration agents has sparked fresh outrage in the state and across the country, some lawmakers have pushed back on the Trump administration's explanation for DHS's aggressive tactics and called for an independent investigation. Correspondent Scott Pelley interviews Sen. Rand Paul, chairman of the Senate's Homeland Security Committee, who summoned top DHS immigration officials to testify later this month. Pelley also speaks with former Justice Department and DHS investigators about the state of the federal probe. Leading up to Artemis II – NASA's first human mission to the Moon in more than 50 years - correspondent Bill Whitaker reports from Kennedy Space Center in Florida on this critical step forward in American space exploration. Whitaker interviews the four astronauts who will embark on the 10-day mission, which could pave the way for a sustained presence on the Moon and lay the groundwork for future missions to Mars. If you think America's top laugh factories are only in New York, Chicago, and LA, think again. Reporting from Amsterdam, correspondent Jon Wertheim takes us inside Boom Chicago, an English-language improv theater founded in the early '90s by two American comics. What sounded like a punchline became a pipeline, launching future stars like Seth Meyers, Jordan Peele, Amber Ruffin, Brendan Hunt and Jason Sudeikis. At a moment when American comedy feels under siege, this beloved Dutch theater keeps proving that funny survives—and travels. Merriam-Webster's Word of the Day for February 2, 2026 is: prescience PRESH-ee-unss noun Prescience is a formal word used to refer to the ability to see or anticipate what will or might happen in the future. // He predicted the public's response to the proposed legislation with remarkable prescience. See the entry > Examples: "... novelists have always faced technological and social upheaval. They have mostly addressed it in one of two ways. The first is to imagine an altered future with the prescience of science fiction; Mary Shelley's warning that humans are not always in control of their creations is, if anything, even more resonant today than when Frankenstein was first published in 1818." — Jessi Jezewska Stevens, The Dial, 2 Dec. 2025 Did you know? If you know the origin of science you already know half the story of prescience. Science comes from the Latin verb sciō, scīre, "to know," also source of such words as conscience, conscious, and omniscience. Prescience has as its ancestor a word that attached prae-, a predecessor of pre-, to this root to make praescire, meaning "to know beforehand."

If you've ever thought, “I'm eating healthy… so why do I feel worse?” — this episode is for you. In today's conversation, we're breaking down GI-MAP testing in clear, human language. No fear-mongering. No over-promising. Just honest insight into what this popular gut health tool can and can't tell us—and how it can help bring clarity when symptoms feel confusing. You'll learn why more data doesn't always mean better outcomes, how gut testing fits into an empowered, food-first approach, and why the solution is almost never cutting more foods—but understanding which foods your body is ready for right now. Connect with us HERE. Learn more about working with the Empowered Eating team here! In This Episode, We Cover: What a GI-MAP actually is (and how PCR stool testing works—in plain English) What defines a “healthy gut” beyond perfect lab numbers What dysbiosis means—and why it's not a diagnosis or a life sentence The pros of GI-MAP testing and how it can help identify possible contributors to symptoms The limitations of GI-MAPs, including: Lack of regulation Cost considerations Emerging (but incomplete) microbiome science The risk of over-restriction without proper guidance A personal story of eating “healthier” and feeling worse—and how gut data helped explain why Why whole foods are always the foundation, but which whole foods matter Who GI-MAP testing is best suited for—and who it's not Key Takeaway GI-MAP testing isn't about controlling your gut or chasing perfect results. It's about listening to your body with better context, reducing guesswork, and choosing support strategies that actually align with where your gut is today. Data doesn't heal—but informed care does. Interested in GI-MAP Testing? If you're curious whether GI-MAP testing could be a helpful tool for your health journey, I offer guided GI-MAP testing with personalized interpretation and a food-first plan—so the data supports your life instead of overwhelming it.

If you want to see some really old stuff, Portland isn’t a bad place to be. With dozens of antique shops around the city, it isn’t hard to find objects more than a hundred years old. But from now until March 6, Lewis & Clark College will do you one better: Its special collections department has unveiled an exhibit featuring manuscripts from the Middle Ages, some dating back to 13th century Europe. While rare now in the 21st century, the items on display were once mundane, everyday objects, including legal documents and prayer books with colorful illustrations. It’s not often that small liberal arts colleges gain access to such rare documents, as larger research institutions and elite universities frequently take priority. In fact, it’s the first time in nearly three decades that a collection this old has made its way to the Rose City. The exhibit, “Shaping the Soul,” is free and open to the public. At Lewis & Clark College, Hannah Crummé is the head of special collections, and Karen Gross is a medievalist and professor of English. They join us to share more about the manuscripts and their significance today, hundreds of years later.

Seems like these days a lot of folks are busy, and even stressed. How about you? Have you ever wanted to describe your situation or feeling with something more conversational than “I'm very busy,” or “I'm stressed.” I'm glad you said yes. In fact, native English speakers usually have a few other ways to talk about stress and being busy that sound more natural and more conversational. We often explain why we're busy, or we soften what we say so we don't sound dramatic. And that's what I want to help you with today - talking about stress and being busy naturally in English.Happy English Podcast – Speak English Naturally I'm Michael from Happy English, and I help people speak English more naturally, confidently, and clearly.

Welcome to another chaotic episode of Don't Be Sour, where we somehow go from debating massage etiquette to dissecting international politics to arguing about whether snowboarding is cooler than skiing (spoiler: it obviously is). This week, David sold his entire house—furniture, gym equipment, and all—in like 48 hours to some cash-wielding strangers who apparently loved his interior design choices. Meanwhile, Shawley got catfished by a squat rack that looks like it was assembled by someone who'd never seen a gym before. Oh, and Maxx discovered books exist. Wild times. We dive deep into the hard-hitting questions nobody asked for: Is it weird to ask your masseuse to go softer THREE times? Why do rich people shave their arms? Can dogs eventually learn English if we just keep talking at them? And most importantly—what's the protocol when your massage therapist offers "extras"? (Asking for a friend. That friend is Joe.) Plus, we get surprisingly serious about current events, ICE operations, and why everyone on the internet is mad at Joe again. Don't worry, he doubles down. Stick around for heated debates about $89 basketballs, the correct air pressure for athletic performance and planning a snowboarding trip where Joe will definitely panic on the private jet, Maxx will force everyone to film his jumps seventeen times, and Shawley will discover that step-on bindings are life-changing. It's friendship, it's chaos, it's probably too long—but hey, that's the Don't Be Sour guarantee. See you next week (maybe).

Send me a DM here (it doesn't let me respond), OR email me: imagineabetterworld2020@gmail.comToday I'm honored and excited to have on the show for a second time: Renowned and published author and writer, independent researcher, investigator and reporter, public speaker and educator, whistleblower to whistleblowers of ritual abuse, mind control and organized abuse, one of my personal inspirations, a man who has inspired many of you, and a man who was way before his time who has pioneered the survivor movement in ways that are just now starting to truly be recognized: Fritz SpringmeierA little bit about Fritz if you are new here and what we will be discussing today: In the depths of humanity's darkest hour, when shadows of control threaten to extinguish the human spirit, a single flame rises - unquenchable, unbreakable, eternal. That flame is Fritz Springmeier, the fearless whistleblower, the tireless warrior of truth, and the radiant beacon who has given hope to the hopeless, healing to the broken, and courage to the silenced.Born into a world of hidden chains, Fritz saw what others refused to see: generations of elite bloodlines wielding unimaginable power through trauma-based mind control, ritual abuse, and a relentless agenda to enslave the soul. With the fire of conviction burning in his heart, he refused to remain silent. Armed only with relentless research, a Master's degree in English, and an unshakable faith in God and human freedom, he forged masterpieces that would become lifelines for survivors trapped in unimaginable darkness. His groundbreaking collaboration with survivor Cisco Wheeler, The Illuminati Formula Used to Create an Undetectable Total Mind Controlled Slave, became more than a book - it became salvation. For countless men and women fractured by MONARCH programming, dissociation, and ritual horror, Fritz's words offered the first glimpse of light: validation that their pain was real, explanations that shattered the lies, and practical pathways toward deprogramming and recovery. Survivors who once believed escape was impossible found in his work the map to reclaim their minds, their identities, and their lives. "Undetectable no more" - his message echoes as a battle cry of liberation, turning victims into empowered warriors who rise to tell their stories and break the cycle of abuse. As a captivating lecturer through The Prophecy Club and beyond, Fritz's voice thundered across stages, demystifying occult symbols, numerology, and elite manipulations. He inspired generations - from researchers to everyday awakeners - to question, to seek, to fight. His influence ripples through the works of visionaries and endures in archives, forums, and hearts, even as engineered crises test humanity's resolve.Persecution came, as it always does for those who threaten the shadows. False charges, a conviction, years behind bars - yet Fritz emerged unbroken, his spirit forged stronger in the fire. Many see these trials as the ultimate proof of his impact: the powerful fear only those who refuse to yield. From his currently sanctuary, he continues his divine calling - to dismantle the New World Order and restore sovereignty to every soul.Today, with Fritz at the helm, we will be beginning a discussion around programming and trauma-based mind control - painting the bigger picture of it's origins and history, what it is, the reason for it's continued proliferation, and the conspiracy Fritz is no ordinary man. He is humanity's champion, a living testament that one voice raised in truth can shatter chains, heal wounds, and ignite revolutions of the spirit. To survivors, he is the first hand extended in the abyss, whispering, "You are not alone. You can hSupport the show

Yeah, another publication protesting against the dangers of relativism. It's easy to let this topic pass, simply claiming to know how bad it is, right? Don't be so quick. Join me in the next episode of Catholic Life Coach For Men as I review C S Lewis's book Abolition of Man. He is writing during the rise of relativism after World War 2, and as a classical English professor is uniquely suited to bring this issue up. The invitation is not to merely to oppose relativism in the universities, but even where it tries to creep into our homes. Fighting for objective truth, and the goodness of truth is essential! I talk about how to do that in this episode. I'm happy to announce I have a book out and available! You can find it on Amazon (more options to come.) Also if you struggle with it, consider my course on Anger. It's a collection of powerful ideas and exercises that will help you regain control of your temper - and protect those you love! https://newsongpeople.com/messages/with-othersPrayer was central to the life of Jesus. He prayed at the most ordinary moments, and at the most critical ones. He prayed with Scripture, He prayed alone, He prayed with friends, He prayed for His enemies, and He surrendered Himself to the will of the Father in prayer. In this series, we're going to look at the prayer life of Jesus. We'll listen as He teaches us how to pray, and we'll follow His example in the way He prayed. As we pray like Jesus, we'll grow in our relationship with the Father, our dependence on the Spirit, and our alignment with His mission.
