The holidays are here, which means many of us will be spending time with family and friends over the next couple months. It's the perfect time to talk about deep conversations with people we care about.Today's episode features Chris Burnett, who, in 2020, started a personal project to reconnect with people in his life. It started with weekly calls to catch up. Then, he began asking if he could interview them about their lives. To date, Chris has recorded more than 70 conversations. After seeing the impact this project had on himself and his people, he decided to share the idea with a broader audience. His book, Conversations: Connecting with People in Our Lives, was released in November. When Chris reached out to join us on Friendship IRL, I couldn't say yes fast enough. Having these deep conversations with people we care about is so important. It strengthens our relationships and allows us a better perspective of our people and ourselves. In this episode you'll hear about:Chris's project: how it began (catching up with one person a week) and how that grew into him reaching out for recorded interviews, and then, a bookInterview format – the wording Chris used during his initial contact, and how he structures the phone conversationsHow these deep conversations can help the person “interviewed” feel special, and how the interviews rekindled lots of relationships for ChrisMy personal story about sitting with friends and talking about why we admire each other, and the impact this had on usHow the experience helped Chris learn about his friends and family and reflect on his own life and childhoodResources & LinksA reminder – I have a two-part episode about men's friendships, Episode 31 and 32.Be sure to check out Conversations: Connecting with People in Our Lives by Chris Burnett, which is now available on Amazon.Like what you hear? Thankfully, they're joined by Erik Danielson, Stewardship Coordinator of the Western NY Land Conservancy (WNYLC), who schools them on the difference between these wetlands. Erik and the WNYLC are trying to preserve Floating Fen, a property home to a unique wetland, extraordinary life, and a diverse forest. Are you sick and tired of watching people fall for massive lies? I think that is true for most of us. For me, it's especially disturbing to see so many young people being programmed by The Party. Chelsea Clinton is out lying to the World about what The Party calls “THE ‘science'”, what does God's Word say? In the separate Country of Seattle young people are constantly told that, despite $1 billion per year spent in the Seattle area on issues caused by welcoming people to live in chaos, they still "don't do enough" for homeless people. But, what does God's Word say? Today, we focus on key lies The Party is programming people to believe and how God's Word stomps them out. “The World says X, but God says . . .” In future episodes, we will tell stories of people who would have been ruined or quit, “but, God … “ intervened, saved them or shut a door. What does God's Word say? Matthew 4:4 4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'”Episode 819 LinksA recent survey looked at trends in American values. The results are shocking…Family Of Subway Chokehold Victim Breaks SilenceDemocratic Socialist of America Councilmember Tammy Morales introduced the board that will be overseeing Seattle's Social Housing program, made up of people who are/were homeless, socialists & others who have presided over the city's "homeless" disaster. RFK, Jr., the possibly disqualifying information. Last week, Charlie Kirk shared his notion of RFK, Jr. as President Trump's VP candidate. We had some fun talking about it. Today, we examine the very deep downside of RFK, Jr. Aside from taking on the criminal bosses of Big Pharma and his apparently recent purple-pilling about how The Party is using the lie of a Climate Catastrophe to install profitable tyranny, RFK Jr., has said some pretty horrendous things, like putting people in prison for not backing his climate positions to his indefensible support of Hillary Clinton and his back-slapping the murderous Dictator of Washington, Jay Inslee. There is a lot here and a fantastic journalist named Michael Tracey has compiled a huge volume of background we will share today. All of this said, I would love to see President Trump in a second term, or Governor DeSantis in a first term, put RFK Jr., in chare of dismantling the FDA and CDC. This principle of readiness could be applied to the exercise that happened on the campus of Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo in 2022. At that time, the Emergency Management Department held a training exercise to emphasize readiness for a potential atmospheric river event. A few months later, the campus experienced a serious atmospheric river event which caused major flooding on and around the campus, destroying property and causing millions of dollars in damage. Emergency Services and Business Continuity Manager, Megan Harrington was a part of both events, helping organize the training, and also working hard to coordinate the response to the real-life event a few months later. She shares her experiences on this week's episode of the Disaster Tough Podcast. She also talks about how the university was able to be ready for such an event, and as such, respond more effectively. Megan also attended the Readiness Lab's Emergency Management Response for Dynamic Populations course last year in Atlanta. In this episode, she also talks about the lessons learned there and how they are being applied at Cal Poly to make the campus, and San Luis Obispo in general, a safer place. If you've been having trouble getting in with a veterinarian, you're not imagining it. Across the country, pet care is increasingly hard to come by, and more vets are leaving the job.Alaska's capital city, Juneau, has lost roughly half of its veterinarians since the pandemic began. Pet owners often have to wait several weeks for an appointment, surgery is scarce, and 24/7 emergency care doesn't exist. Now, a local animal shelter is stepping up to try and fill the gap for desperate pet owners, who often have nowhere else to turn. In an industry rife with burnout, turnover, and high suicide rates, veterinarians and vet technicians are being forced to choose between taking care of animals and taking care of themselves.Featuring: Tracy Ward, Jocelyn Andrea, Krista Miller, Sam Smith, Sam BlankenshipIf you or someone you know is struggling with depression, reach out to the folks at the Crisis Text Line, a texting service for emotional crisis support. Who moved the giant monolithic statues of Rapa Nui, a remote island in the South Pacific? And how did they do it? These questions have been at the center of much speculation and debate since Europeans first arrived there on Easter Sunday, 1722, and called it “Easter Island”. The most popular theory was that this remote civilization destroyed itself -- cutting down all the trees to make contraptions for moving statues. But according to the indigenous people of Rapa Nui, their ancestors didn't need to cut down any trees to transport the statues. In fact, their oral history has always been clear about how the moai were transported. This is a story about storytelling: what happens when your community becomes the subject of a global mystery? A parable of human failure and ecological collapse? What's the true story? Sto facendo finta di essere una formica che vive in un formicaio. E no, non è una metafora! LINKSA group where we all pretend to be an ant colony https://www.facebook.com/groups/473412460209365Il gruppo nel quale facciamo finta di essere anzianihttps://www.facebook.com/groups/2387310758015821TESTO TRASCRITTOLift Lift Lift. Come funziona?
Columnist Katie Wilson tells us how the law created in the Gilded Age will help shape the next chapter of the Digital Age.As a concept, antitrust may seem fairly simple. Companies that get too big and abuse their powers to unfairly eliminate competition, and maybe drive up prices, must be brought to heel, either through regulation or a breakup. But the reality is not so simple, and the history of trustbusting in the United States has been uneven at best. Still, the government has managed to employ this power to interfere in the market to manage Big Oil, Big Railroad and Big Steel. Now it looks as if those powers will again be used, this time against Big Tech, in particular on Apple, Facebook, Google and Amazon. For this week's episode of the Crosscut Talks podcast, we are speaking with columnist Katie Wilson about the mounting efforts to rein in these digital behemoths and what the history of antitrust can tell us about this latest effort and its possible outcomes. ---LinksA new era of trustbusting could begin with Amazon, tech giants (Oct. 22, 2020)Capitalism, competition, and why antitrust is so confusing (Oct. 28, 2020)1912: When antitrust views collided in a presidential election (Nov. 4, 2020)How Big Tech landed in the crosshairs of antitrust law (Nov. 12, 2020)Why 21st century trustbusters are picking on Amazon (Nov. 19, 2020)Imagining a future where Amazon runs the world (Dec. 9, 2020)---CreditsHost: Mark BaumgartenProducer: Jake NewmanEngineer: Resti Bagcal
Garrick Jones is a gracious man who is on a mission to be the next general manager in the NFL. However, even though his mission is clear, he is keeping his priorities straight by helping as many people he can along the way. As the president of the Huddle Up Foundation of Houston he is helping athletes map out their future to be the best for their families and community. Mr. Jones has worked hard and will continue to on behalf of anyone that needs help. Garrick Jones embodies the perfect GM. Let's watch him and help him reach his goal. The trading or releasing of cornerstone athletes without clear communication of direction has been the absolute confirmation for Houston's city that something drastic has to be done within the Houston Texan organization! In addition to professional colleagues of mine, several former teammates have reaffirmed that I should put my name in the hat for General Manager of the Houston Texans! During my professional football career, I have gone through similar situations with several teams, and there needs to be an alternate avenue when dealing with players and fans. The transactional leadership approach of yesterday not only hurts the team, but it hurts the chances of our city ever seeing a Super Bowl championship. This is clearly what has been going on in the organization for some time now. It's time for a complete teamwork approach for our football team. I would love to have an opportunity to be considered as a candidate for General Manager when that time comes. The city of Houston has been great for my family and me! It's where I learned how to make a social impact off the field because of the Houston Texans and NFL platform! It's been some years since the Houston Texan organization has employed me. Still, the loyalty to the organization and city in which I have my very own Garrick Jones day with a proclamation date of October 25, 2005, is something that will never die! The team and city took a massive blow by the departure of some key players, which I feel should've never happened. The wonderful people of Houston and I, along with the rest of the Texan fans all over the world, ask that you grant me the opportunity to interview in Hope's of continuing the legacy of Bob McNair as your next General Manager. He stepped out on faith by bringing an NFL team back to Houston! Now we are asking you to do the same thing. It will take a General Manager with a vested interest in this organization and a transformational leadership approach to make this work! Teamwork does make the dream work. That means that everyone from the tip-top down to the groundskeepers are in it to bring the Lombardi trophy to Houston! The fans deserve it. The city deserves it. Most importantly, Mr. McNair's legacy deserves it.Sincerely,Garrick JonesHouston Texan Legend Community Member HOUSTON TEXAN ALUMNI 03 - 06Bio & LinksA veteran of three professional football leagues, Garrick Jones personifies the qualities of a battle-tested leader on and off the field. These qualities are key components of a general manager who will lead by example while building a blue-collar, salt-of-the-earth organization. Garrick is also President of the Huddle Up Foundation of Houston and played four seasons in the National Football League, as well as four seasons in the Canadian Football League, which was highlighted by signing his first NFL contract after forgoing his senior season at Arkansas States University due to personal issues. Garrick currently sits on the Board of Directors for the NFLPA Houston Chapter and the Advisory Board for IMPACT Sports LLC; a company focused on the development of concussion reducing helmets for all athletes."

In this episode, we discuss a guy so anti-imperialist that he unquestioningly supports U.S. imperialism. That's right, we're talking about Macleans contributing editor, National Post columnist and all-around neocon ghoul Terry Glavin (Gladio). The piece in question is a masterful work of concern trolling, where he suggests that if BLM activists want to win him over, they'll have to stop wearing clothes. It's essentially a hornier, unironic version of the classic Matt Bors cartoon. Gladio comes very close to making a valid point about supply chains in the Third World and their dependence on sweatshops, but bookends it with a wildly superficial attack on the moral integrity of BLM. Joining us is long-time friend of the show and recovering podcaster Abdul Malik (@socialistraptor), who bonds with Eric over their Mississauga heritage.
