Other times, our emotions are so strong that our mind becomes the intern in the back of the room taking notes. Kabbalah teaches that healthy living is not about shutting down emotion, and it is not about letting feelings run the show. The goal is Middot Al Pi Sechel, emotions guided by wisdom. In this class, we'll learn how intellect can give direction to emotion, how emotion can give warmth and life to intellect, and how real spiritual maturity happens when the mind and heart stop fighting and start becoming partners. This Shabbat  Parshat Beha'alotecha, Rabbi Yisroel Bernath was a Scholar-In-Residence at Beth Tikvah in DDO, Quebec, here is a recording for him preparing his Shabbat morning sermon. Rabbi Yisroel Bernath connects two contemporary images: the debate over displaying the Ten Commandments in American classrooms and the haunting “blank Tanach” campaign in Israel. Both raise a deeper question: Is Torah something displayed on walls, or something written into our lives?The sermon then turns to the mysterious two verses of “Vayehi binso'a ha'aron”, surrounded by inverted nuns and described by the Talmud as a “book” of its own. These verses appear at the turning point of Sefer Bamidbar: before them, the Jewish people are guided by faith, order, and Divine protection; after them come complaints, confusion, and crisis.Rabbi Bernath's message is clear and urgent: when the Jewish people enter the wilderness, whether physical, emotional, spiritual, or historical, we need two things: the Ark and each other. Torah gives us direction. Jewish unity gives Hashem a place to rest. The blank pages of Jewish life are filled not by slogans or outrage, but by Torah, Shabbos tables, questions, conversations, and a renewed commitment to live as Jews with purpose.Key Takeaways1. The second half of Heavy Metal L-Gaim bucks the trend from Xabungle and Dunbine of Tomino shows that become messier down the home stretch, as this final set of episodes sees Daba Myroad step fully into his role as rebel leader, and the show itself tighten into a more focused, substantive experience. As we come to learn more about the truth of Oldna Posaydal and the fractured politics of Pentagonal World, a number of characters become deeper and richer, and the series reveals itself as something of a narrative and thematic precursor to Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. With incredible animation, excellent writing, and more of Nagano Mamoru's outstanding mechanical designs, L-Gaim is a real triumph, and one of our favorite discoveries from this season's episodes.  Enjoy!
