After Danny Elfman composes and performs a song from A NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, we’ll hear selections from the new release of Nick Bicat’s score to the 1984 adaptation of Charles Dickens A CHRISTMAS CAROL. We’ll then hear some exciting music from Michael Kamen’s DIE HARD 2 and Jerry Goldsmith’s score to GREMLINS. On this week’s episode of CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO, I will be celebrating the 21st anniversary of the program. With each anniversary program, I try to present a topic or theme that I haven’t explored in the past. With that in mind, I thought it might be interesting to present for you a few of my personal custom film music suites that I like to edit together in my spare time. I don’t create suites for every score in my collection but I have roughly 75-80 specially edited suites, which combine multiple cues into one easy to digested track that ranges from roughly 4 minutes in length to as long as 10 minutes. It’s a fun exercise and I hope you enjoy listening to my creations as much as I do. On today’s program you are going to hear 12 of those suites, which features music from THE AVENGERS by Joel McNeely, THE PROMISE by Klaus Badelt, BATMAN FOREVER by Elliot Goldenthal, PAYCHECK by John Powell, THE THREE MUSKETEERS by Michael Kamen, PERCY JACKSON & THE OLYMPIANS: THE LIGHTNING THIEF by Christophe Beck, PETER PAN by James Newton Howard, THE ROCKETEER by James Horner, GODZILLA by David Arnold, SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW by Edward Shearmur, THE KARATE KID PART I AND II by Bill Conti and WARRIORS OF VIRTUE by Don Davis. CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO is proud to be the distributor of the third and final part of Jason Drury’s epic tribute to the late great composer James Horner. In paying respects to the memory of James Horner comes the final part of Jason’s overview of the music of one of the finest composers in movie history. The show covers the period from 2000 right up to his untimely death and beyond. The show includes music from THE PERFECT STORM, ENEMY AT THE GATES, A BEAUTIFUL MIND, APOCALYPTO, AVATAR and much more. Contributors include Nick Redman, Conrad Pope, Tim Burden, Steve Bramson, James Semple, Chris Malone, Robert Daniels, Jeff Bond and Erik Woods. The program also includes excerpts from BAFTA’s interview with James Horner as part of their Conversations With Screen Composers series at the Royal Albert Hall. THE LIFE AND MUSIC OF JAMES HORNER was narrated by Amanda Barrow and was written, produced, recorded and edited by Jason Drury. Jason Drury would like to send a huge thanks to all the people interviewed for this series, including Jason Needs, David Houquet, and Tim Greiving. Special thanks to BAFTA, Robert Daniels, Erik Woods and especially Amanda Barrow. Cinematic Sound Radio - Soundtracks, Film, TV and Video Game Music
Over the past few years, we hear at CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO have been paying our respects to two-time Academy Award winning composer James Horner with various radio specials including a four hour plus special produced a few days after his death. We also produced a two-part series last year featuring some of his lesser known film scores. Jason Drury has also been producing an epic three-part radio documentary in Horner’s honour. The third and final part of that program is scheduled to be released next week right here on CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO. James Horner was part of a holy trinity of film composers I grew up with admiring. The others were John Williams and Jerry Goldsmith. Those three brought me into the world of film music with their timeless and classic scores and made me a fan of this art form for life. Todays program is dedicated to re-recorded James Horner music. Fans of the show know of my love for re-recordings or new recordings of previously existing scores so I thought this would be a unique way to mark the 2nd anniversary of James Horner’s passing. Today’s program will include performances by The City of Prague Philharmonic, The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, The Boston Pops Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. Solo performers include flutist Sara Andon, pianist Jean-Michel Bernard, pianist Dan Redfeld, and violinist Mari Samuelsen. Conductors include Nic Raine, John Scott, John Williams, Erich Kunzel, David Arnold, Joel McNeely and John Debney. ORIGINALLY AIRED: June 10, 2011 On June 12th, 2011 one of the greatest films of all time turns 30 years old. On that date in 1981 the world was introduced to the motion picture event of the year – RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK – starring Harrison Ford as one of the most iconic characters in movie history, Indiana Jones. To celebrate this momentous occasion we are going to playing music from all four John Williams Indiana Jones scores; RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK (1981), INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM (1984), INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE (1989) and INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL (2008). However, we are going to be doing things a little differently than have with past Indiana Jones themed programs. Have a listen to hear how we mixed things up… Cinematic Sound Radio http://www.cinematicsound.net WROCK Radio http://www.wrockradio.com Cinematic Sound Radio Fanfare and Theme by David Coscina https://soundcloud.com/user-970634922 Bumper voice artist: Tim Burden http://www.timburden.com Also available through Podtyrant http://www.podtyrant.com

Cinematic Sound Radio - Soundtracks, Film, TV and Video Game Music
Every year, CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO presents a year-end countdown of the best new film, TV and video game scores written that year. However, there was one year where I did not produce a year-end countdown and that was the very first year of the program back in 1996. The show had only been on the air for four months and I still only had roughly 60-70 albums in my collection and next to none released in 1996. Therefore, it was difficult for me to compile and present a definite… or at least an educated best of 1996 list at the time. Skip ahead 20 years, I have now own an enormous collection of 1996 released and I think now is the time to right a wrong as I present for you, for the very first time on CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO, my top 10 scores of 1996. The program today is part one of two as you will hear selections from albums 10 through to 6 as well as one honourable mention featuring music composed by Jerry Goldsmith, David Newman, Mark Mancina, Mark Isham, Nick-Glennie Smith, Hans Zimmer and Harry Gregosn-Williams. Two weeks from now I’ll conclude the program with selections 5-1 along another honourable mention. So with that… on with the show!
