Today we are talking with ASCAP award-winning composer, Matt Bowen. We discuss his musical development from a classically trained violinist touring with a youth symphony to a full-time composer. We also dive into the compositional process behind his project, the Amazon Series "Gen V." Topics Include: • Matt's Background in violin • San Diego Youth Symphony • Learning harmonic structure • Do you know how to wrap cables? The value of an internship • The Importance of asking questions • Gen V: Threading the needle of spinoff music • Creating the Gen V “gritty” sound • How experience as an orchestrator helps with synthesized music • The members of the Gen V music team • Advice for aspiring musicians https://mattbowenmusic.com/ Matt Bowen is an ASCAP award-winning composer based in Los Angeles. A classically trained violinist from the age of three and later a member of a touring youth symphony, he ultimately shifted to working behind the scenes. He teamed up with record producer Matt Wallace (Maroon 5, Faith No More) and worked as an engineer on RIAA-certified platinum singles Michael Franti & Spearhead's "All Rebel Rockers" and O.A.R.'s "All Sides.” As composing projects continued to ramp up, he ultimately pivoted to composing full-time. Bowen recently scored Hulu's R-rated feature film THE BINGE starring Vince Vaughn and Skylar Gisondo. His work can be heard on the gritty Emmy Award-winning documentary BLOOD ROAD (Red Bull Media House). He also teamed up with Christopher Lennertz to co-score the Netflix TV series BEST WORST WEEKEND EVER. In addition to composing, Bowen has contributed as an arranger, orchestrator, and composer of additional music on a wide variety of projects for all mediums. He frequently works on Christopher Lennertz's music team on projects such as THE BOYS and BAD MOMS.
Co-composers Christopher Lennertz and Matt Bowen sit down for a brand new Film.Music.Media conversation! For this conversation we are spotlighting the collaborative process between co-composers, and what the process is for two composers to tackle a project together. Chris and Matt are unique in that Matt has worked for Chris as an additional composer on various projects and has spent a good part of his early career learning from Chris as part of his music team. For Gen V, Chris knew it was the perfect project for him and Matt to tackle as co-composers. You'll learn all about what Chris looks for when hiring people for his music team and how Matt used the early years working with Chris to learn techniques that he now applies to his solo projects. We also discuss the evolution of the score for The Boys and how that led to developing the sound for Gen V. A Film.Music.Media & Impact 24 PR Production | Produced & Presented by Kaya Savas

Today we're talking to Hollywood Music in Media Awards-winning composer Dara Taylor, best known for her collaborations with composer Christopher Lennertz on a variety of projects, from the Netflix series Lost in Space to the cult 2020 comedy Barb and Star Go to Vista del Mar. But her latest solo project is the biggest yet for the young composer - the George Clooney-directed drama The Tender Bar. Based on the memoir by J.R. Moehringer, The Tender Bar is a coming-of-age story about a young writer (Daniel Ranieri as a child, Tye Sheridan as a young man) growing up in 1970s Long Island. With an absentee father and little to do, he spends much of his childhood at the bar his Uncle Charlie (Ben Affleck) owns, absorbing the man's homespun wisdom through the cigarette haze of the past. It's a sleepy tale soaked in hazy nostalgia, leading Dara Taylor down a stripped-down approach sufficed with plaintive guitars and pleasant piano. Her sound accentuates the film's ever-present '70s soundtrack, weaving through needledrops from Jackson Browne and Steely Dan without clashing with it. I spoke to Dara about the incredible opportunity this prestige awards-season drama presented her, the challenges of working within an assignment so heavy on source music, and the long, challenging road it takes for a composer to get to this level. You can find Dara Taylor at her official website here. The Tender Bar is currently streaming on Prime Video.

Composer Dara Taylor shares how she stays focused on her writing for film & TV while striving to process the current national reckoning with systemic racism. We discuss how Dara moved through environments where she did not feel welcome as a female composer of color to how she found her creative home working with mentor turned collaborator Christopher Lennertz in Los Angeles. Dara shares how composing and therapy helped her begin to process her father's passing, and how an unexpected creative hobby opened her up to speaking more about her racial identity. www.DaraTaylor.com Questions and comments can be shared on Julia Adolphe's YouTube Channel
Rana Fonk les recomienda la banda sonora de la serie The Boys de Amazon Prime Video compuesta por Christopher Lennertz. Punk, orquesta y mucha distorsión.
I've been a fan of this composer ever since I first saw Horrible Bosses and Sausage Party. He's composed the music for huge films such as Bad Moms, Ride Along, Baywatch, Pitch Perfect 3, and Shaft. He's also composed video game music for multiple iterations of Medal of Honor and Mass Effect, Scalebound, The Simpsons Game, and Madden NFL 25. His scores for shows including Agent Carter, Netflix's Lost in Space, and Prime Video's The Boys have garnered a lot of attention over the past couple of years and I'm very excited to welcome him on to the show. The composer is... Chris Lennertz. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/composertalk/support

[Watch the video interview on our YouTube Channel] Tim Wynn is one of the most talented storytellers working today. He brings his amazing personality to all his music, and injects his projects with wonderful themes and a deep emotional current. It's such an honor to have him back on All Access for the second time. For this discussion we revisit Tim's path to becoming a composer, including how he and Christopher Lennertz met in school and became best buds. The two of them opened up Sonic Fuel Studios together, where both of their studios reside. We breakdown a handful of Tim's career highlights including The Simpsons Game, The Darkness II, Red Faction: Guerilla Mech X4 on DisneyXD and his newest score to the acclaimed feature Freaks. Hear Tim breakdown his process including his continued collaboration with director Zach Lipovsky, and how the music he wrote based solely on the script was played on set during the filming of the movie. We tackle some other topics including finding your own sound when you're starting out, how to deal with rejection and criticism, and finding confidence in your abilities and your music. CHRISTOPHER LENNERTZ has written music for some of the world's greatest storytellers. Whether for Seth Rogen as a hot dog saving the world in Sausage Party, the lush orchestral melodies of Steven Spielberg's Medal of Honor series or futuristic dystopian Americana for J.J. Abrams' Revolution, this classic eclectic ability has now become his signature. Lennertz has teamed up with legendary artists like Grammy winners Arturo Sandoval and Dave Grusin, The RZA, and Sheila E. as well as members of Pearl Jam, No Doubt, The Beastie Boys, Dave Matthews Band, Jurassic 5, and Jane's Addiction. Collaborations with directors Tim Story, John Favreau, and Ben Stiller as well as producers Doug Liman, Ed Norton, McG, and Joel Silver, and many others have led to a stream of box office successes. This is Lennertz's third time on the podcast, having previously shared his musical story behind his work on SMURFS: THE LOST CITY and Netflix's LOST IN SPACE. He returns to The Annotator to open up one of his most recent projects - his original score for the Amazon Prime series: THE BOYS.THE BOYS is an irreverent take on what happens when superheroes, who are as popular as celebrities, as influential as politicians and as revered as Gods, abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. It's the powerless against the super powerful as The Boys embark on a heroic quest to expose the truth about “The Seven,” and their formidable Vought backing. All 8 episodes were released on Amazon Prime on July 26, 2019.In this episode, Christopher Lennertz dissects the many exotic components that he's combined to create the distinctive sound for THE BOYS including: wratchets, breathing, rubbing hands, indian singing bowls and knitting needles. He details how he developed this gritty, garage-rock feel as well as invoking other musical-styles to convey significant moments in the series and to represent some of the key characters in THEY BOYS.ANNOTATED TRACKS / SEGMENTS02:33 - Translucent Alive03:47 - Butcher06:23 - Starlight07:36 - Hijacking09:47 - Translucent Explodes12:10 - Hughie Trashes Room13:38 - Homelanders Speech15:15 - Frenchies First Kill16:50 - Robin's Memory 18:47 - Homelander and StillwellSOUNDTRACKThe soundtrack was released on July 26, 2019 by Madison Gate Records and can be purchased digitally on Amazon.com, iTunes, and streamed on Spotify and Apple Music. Cinematic Sound Radio - Soundtracks, Film, TV and Video Game Music
Today's very special episode of CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO is a conversation with one of film music's emerging talents. Born in Saudi Arabia and raised in Jordan, Ghiya Rushidat is one amongst the few female composers of Arab heritage working in her field. Now based in Los Angeles, Rushidat has worked and performed throughout the Middle East and Europe, playing in excess of 150 concerts over the years. After following a career as a concert pianist until 2008, Ghiya turned to composing and threw herself into the passion of composition. In 2014, Rushidat moved to the United States. Upon arriving, her first task was to compose the music for the short film, Pen of Mirrors, starring Eric Roberts. Her melodic, dissonant, and layered score gained critical praise. She has been working steadily and tremendously ever since, always inflexible in her pursuit to please her clients and understand their vision. Currently composing original soundtracks for a variety of plays, feature films, video games, short films, and TV spots, Ghiya Rushidat’s name is becoming a name to watch out for in the industry. In 2017, Ghiya Rushidat was the Winner of BMI Pete Carpenter Fellowship, a competitive residency for aspiring film, television, and video game composers. Rushidat's piece, "Fly and Flow", was chosen as the winning score by a distinguished judging panel that included such talent as Christopher Lennertz, Timothy Wynn, Ben Decter, Casey Kolb, Ed Rodgers, and John Kaefer. Ghiya is extremely proud of the fact that she has shattered stereotypes about women-both culturally and professionally. She will continue sharing her emotive and provocative scores with western and global audiences alike. In August 2018, Jason Drury talked to Ghiya Rushidat on Skype from her home in Los Angeles for CINEMATIC SOUND RADIO, about her life, the events that have put her on the path to success, her career to date and her future ambitions. During the show, you will also be hearing some of Ghiya’s wonderful music. Music is a big part of our family. It's either constantly playing, or we're trying to learn to play an instrument. Lately, Channing has been into the guitar and let me tell you, I'm already having visions of her in a rock band and it's awesome. So when I had the opportunity to interview someone truly influential in the music industry I jumped at the chance. Anne Cecere is the Senior Director, Film, TV & Visual Media Relations at BMI - a music rights company. Cecere is the visionary behind creating a platform at WonderCon of composers and creators. In 2009, she realized there was no discussion of any music at any of the Con festivals. So she championed for the opportunity to have BMI composers involved at WonderCon by giving them the opportunity to elaborate on the importance of music behind some of TV’s biggest shows, films and video games. L to R Gabriel Mann (Composer for “School of Rock”) Steven Vincent (VP of Music and Soundtracks- The Disney Channel) Anne Cecere (Co-moderator and Senior Director, Film, TV & Visual Media, BMI) Christopher Lennertz (Composer for Galavant) Chandler Poling (Co-Moderator and President of White Bear PR) Rachel Rusch (VP of Event Series at FOX – Oversaw Grease Live!) Jeffrey Hornaday (Director: Teen Beach Movie & Choreographer for films, Flashdance, A Chorus Line and Dick Tracy) She tells me that the Con people in power initially told her "no", citing that no one would come to a music panel. And in 2010 she proved them wrong by hosting the first BMI panel at WonderCon to a packed house. The BMI music panels are now some of the most anticipated and attended panels at both WonderCon and Comic-Con. Cecere believes, and rightly so, that music is just as much of a character playing alongside Wonder Woman, Superman, Spiderman, Rick & Morty and so many more cult classics. Anne Cecere congratulating Iconic BMI composer John Williams after one of his concerts at the Hollywood Bowl As the BMI panels grew in popularity at both WonderCon and Comic-Con, it attracted major TV networks and creators. The networks offered exclusive footage and the creators asked to join the conversation of the important of music’s role in TV, film and video games. Over the years, the BMI panels at WonderCon and Comic-Con have included exclusive footage from shows such as Arrow and Looper, included award-winning composers such as Blake Neely, Christopher Lennertz, Charles Fox, Nathan Barr, John Ottman, Tyler Bates, Laura Karpman, Lolita Ritmanis, Heather McIntosh and many more. In addition, top Film, TV and video game executives and creators have also participated. In addition to changing the culture of the Cons, she is also a new mommy to a baby boy. She tells me she and her husband are avid cosplayers and that her son Jackson has already dressed up for his first Con. It's so awesome to see moms working their passion into parenting. I do the same with Channing which is why she eats so much cheese! L to R Chandler poling (co-moderator and President White Bear PR) Harry Manfredini (Composer Friday the 13th) Charles Bernstein (Composer Nightmare on Elm Street) Tyler Bates (Composer Dawn of The Dead) Anne Cecere (Co-Moderator and Sr Director, Film, TV & Visual Media, BMI) Laura Karpman (Composer Carrie) Richard Band (Composer Re-Animator) Maurizio Guarini (of the group Goblin…composed the music for Suspiria) Douglas Tait (Special guest that introduced the panel…Actor who played Jason in the film Freddy vs Jason) I loved chatting with Anne and you will truly be inspired by her story too. If you'd like to catch the BMI panel at WonderCon and see the magic of music for your self, the schedule is here. WonderCon runs March 23rd-26th in Anaheim. You can follow the latest news from BMI on their Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

It's also a deeply psychological film requiring a lot from the score to get into the head of the characters. We discuss in depth the psychology of film music. Especially how composers need to be able to analyze characters well in order to know what the music needs to do in order to evoke an emotional connection. Chris shares how 20 years ago he wouldn't have had the life experiences needed to be able to properly write a score like Thanks For Sharing, and how living life is the best way to become a better storyteller. We also discuss Revolution and what his method and approach is for a huge broadcast drama. A truly fascinating and insightful interview with an amazing composer. It was great to chat with Chris once again. Interview Conducted By:Kaya Savas Special Thanks:Christopher LennertzStefan KarrerRay CostaAlbert TelloMilan RecordsCosta Communications
The amazing Christopher Lennertz takes some time to chat about Mass Effect 3 and some upcoming projects. We go in detail about comedy scoring and family film scoring. We spend a good portion talking about his work on Mass Effect 3 and how the rest of the composing team came together to craft a cohesive and epic score for such a large scale game. We also discuss the importance of directors sticking with composers and building a lasting working relationship. It's not vengeance. No, not vengeance...punishment. In issue #6 of Comics on Consoles, we examine perhaps one of the most shocking and violent comics-based games ever made in the form of 2005's The Punisher, developed by Volition, Inc. and published by THQ. Find out how the Punisher rode a roller coaster of popularity and decline before arriving at this unique entry in the entire Punisher franchise, since it fits in as many things simultaneously: a semi-sequel to the 2004 film, an adaptation of one of the character's most influential comic book stories, as well as a companion to the guy we all know and love in the Marvel Comics Universe. Also, listen as host Chris Clow recounts why it's okay to enjoy the Punisher with a "clear conscience," as explained in the words of one of the character's best writers: the incomparable Garth Ennis. Then, in the discussion portion, Chris' Batman-On-Film colleague and Flickering Myth writer Ricky Church joins the fray to talk about the game's legacy, and just what continues to make it such a memorable experience over ten years after it was first released. Plus, Chris announces the subject of issue #7! Music by BenSound.com. Game music composed by Christopher Lennertz and Timothy Michael Wynn.

Welcome back to our coverage of Agent Carter as the show airs each week in Ireland and the UK every Sunday on Fox UK. This time around we discuss character development for Howard Stark and an amazing ballerina move for quiet resident of The Griffith, Dottie Underwood (Bridget Regan). In Agent Carter The Blitzkrieg Button Peggy (Hayley Atwell) continues to work surreptitiously for Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper) to get details of the inventions now in the possession of the members of the Strategic Scientific Reserve. In particular Howard is concerned about the loss of one of his prized gadgets The Blitzkrieg Button and returns from hiding to ensure the device is kept out of the US Governments hands. The device contains a secret truly connected to Peggy's past. Will it lead to the breaking of the close knit group of Peggy, Howard and Jarvis (James D'Arcy)? Meanwhile Chief Dooley (Shea Whigham) and Agent Thompson (Chad Michael Murray) close in on the mystery of "The Battle of Finow" as they realise that Colonel Mueller (Jack Conley), a former commander in the German army now awaiting the death penalty in Germany, may provide the lead to the shadowy organisation Leviathan. As always thanks for listening to our Agent Carter Podcast. We return this week after our trip to the movies to see Marvel's Ant-man to continue our coverage of Agent Carter Bridge and Tunnel the second episode of season one of the TV series Agent Carter. This episode was directed by Joe Russo who brought us the wonderful Captain America: Winter Soldier and will bring us Avengers: Infinity War and Captain America: Civil War very soon, it's also written by Eric Pearson the writer behind the Marvel One-Shots including "A funny thing happened on the way to Thor's hammer", "Item 47" and of course the Marvel One-Shot: "Agent Carter". It's great to see such a pedigree brought to the TV Show. In episode 2 we see the contrasting investigations of Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), The SSR and the quiet man in the green suit all leading to the home of Sheldon McFee (Devin Ratray). While Agent Sousa (Enver Gjokaj) gets closer to the trail of the "blond" from Spider's Club. We also have a tender moment between Peggy and Jarvis (James D'Arcy) as he becomes a closer confidant and supportive influence on the life of our WW2 veteran. Finally we receive an obscure lead from Leet Brannis (James Frain soon to appear as a returning character on Gotham) which may lead Peggy to the nefarious Leviathan. Welcome one and all to Cinematic Sound Radio’s third annual Christmas special. On the program this year you will hear music from Jeannot Szwarc’s 1985 film SANTA CLAUS: THE MOVIE starring Dudley Moore. You’ll also hear a rare Christmas gem by Bruce Broughton for the 1991 family comedy ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS. Mychael Danna wrote arguably one of his very best scores for the 2006 film THE NATIVITY STORY; you’ll hear a lengthy suite from that score. We will also feature music from Maurice Jarre’s score to the 1989 film PRANCER – a score that received its very first CD release a few months ago. Sprinkled throughout the program you’ll hear shorter selections from Randy Edelman’s SURVIVING CHRISTMAS, Hans Zimmer’s THE HOLIDAY, and Christopher Lennertz’s A DIVA’S CHRISTMAS CAROL. To open the program you’ll hear Andrew Pearce’s extended TF1 CINE DIMANCE LOGO THEME and the close the show you will hear the “Christmas Carol Medley” arranged by Angela Morley from the 1990 film HOME ALONE.
Christopher Lennertz is a busy guy, working on multiple television projects like Supernatural and Revolution, in addition to writing music for games like Starhawk and Mass Effect 3. Hear the conversation on the new episode of Top Score from Classical MPR.
In which I talk about video game enemy racism, then play music from a cute platformer! Awkward tonal shifts are a trademark of this show. GUN theme and Dodge City theme scored by Christopher Lennertz from GUN by Neversoft; and Woods of Light and Ending Sequence by Eric Chevalier from Rayman 2: The Great Escape by Ubisoft.
Instead of another set of movie reviews this week I decided to make things consistent and come out with something in it's stead. I have a couple video games to review this round as well as one anime. I start things off with Mass Effect 3, hopefully it's as spoiler free as I think it is but if anyone has problems with it you can send an email. I didn't address in detail the controversy with ME3's ending(s) I just discuss my interaction with them. Following ME3 is Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, a good game but I think it shows it's age just a little bit. Overall it has a fun story, but it has two failings that keep this title from being amazing. And lastly I try to talk about Ikki Tousen, but honestly I have little to no idea what it's about and that's after watching 6 episodes. So if it sounded disjointed that's because I was confused and lost. I doubt anyone will be surprised by the score. Opening and Closing Song- Leaving Earth by Clint Mansell, Christopher Lennertz, Cris Velasco, Sam Hulick, and Sascha Dikiciyan
When a movie needs a little more ‘cattitude’ or must unleash some canine goofiness, movie moguls often turn to our special guest, Christopher Lennertz. This award-winning music composer creates the mood with just the right tempo, tone and use of instruments on such popular movies as Marmaduke, 101 Dalmatians, Free Willy 2, Alvin and the Chipmunks and the upcoming 3-D Cats & Dogs: Revenge of Kitty Galore (premieres July 30). Lennertz happily shares how his work has bee influenced by a pair of four-legged music muses -- his pets who include a liver-spotted Dalmatian named Miles Davis and a very chatty cat named Loca. Definitely tune in to this special episode of Oh Behave!
