David Bahnsen fills in for Brian Szytel with a Daily Recap recorded shortly before the close as markets trade higher (Dow up ~300, S&P up nearly 1%, Nasdaq up over 1%) and notes upcoming Nvidia earnings. He focuses on economic takeaways from the State of the Union rather than politics, highlighting the lack of new affordability proposals as potentially market-friendly. He says Medicaid drug price controls were reiterated but have little market impact due to low passage odds, and that pharma has largely navigated tariff threats already. He reviews proposals for government-matched quasi-401(k) plans for lower-income Americans, requiring hyperscalers to fund their own power needs, and an unrealistic idea of tariffs replacing income taxes. He supports banning congressional stock trading and notes omissions on credit-card rate caps and 2026 tax-cut reconciliation, while flagging a call to ban institutional ownership of residential real estate. 00:00 Market Snapshot Setup 00:36 State of the Union Focus 01:12 Affordability and Policy Restraint 02:15 Prescription Drugs and Pharma 03:25 New Savings Plan Proposal 03:42 AI Data Centers and Power 04:17 Tariffs and Tax Reality Check 04:45 Congress Stock Trading Ban 05:04 What Wasn't Said and Housing 05:48 Wrap Up and Sign Off Links mentioned in this episode: DividendCafe.com TheBahnsenGroup.com
During Trumps State of the Union, he talked about lowering the cost of medicine, but can it really happen?
In 2019, Maryland became the first state in the nation to establish a Prescription Drug Affordability Board. After years of preparatory work, the agency is poised to take its first actions on two blockbuster diabetes drugs, Jardiance and Farxiga, and a year later, the Board can expand its price control mechanism to the private insurance market. Will they clear the thicket of dysfunction in the drug marketplace and help lower actual drug costs? Sunil Dasgupta talks with Andrew York, Executive Director Maryland Prescription Drug Affordability Board, and Vincent DeMarco, president of the Maryland Health Care for All Coalition. Newly in public domain music by George Gershwin, Paul Whiteman band, and Marian Andersen.

Three facts are scientifically undisputed: Serotonin is essential for fetal brain development. SSRIs disrupt the serotonin system. SSRIs freely cross the placenta. So why are pregnant women being told these drugs carry "little or no risk"?In this rare head-to-head debate, Dr. Adam Urato—maternal-fetal medicine specialist and FDA expert panelist—faces off against Dr. Robert Chen, a psychiatry resident willing to do what most of his colleagues won't: step into the arena and defend the establishment position. What unfolds is a striking conversation where both physicians actually agree on more than you'd expect—including that informed consent is failing pregnant women, that the chemical imbalance theory is dead, and that "untreated depression" is a misleading frame designed to sell drugs. The uncomfortable question neither side can fully answer: If SSRIs are correcting depression, why does the research show worse outcomes for women who stay on them? This isn't anti-medication propaganda. Pharmacist and healthcare reform advocate Leyla Ali joins us for a bold and challenging discussion that questions the foundations of modern medicine. Known as the “renegade pharmacist,” Dr. Ali argues that many commonly prescribed drugs fail to address the root causes of illness — and in some cases may do more harm than good. Drawing on her professional experience inside the pharmaceutical system, she explores the influence of Big Pharma, the importance of informed consent, and why patients must become active participants in their own health decisions.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-x-zone-radio-tv-show--1078348/support.Please note that all XZBN radio and/or television shows are Copyright © REL-MAR McConnell Meda Company, Niagara, Ontario, Canada – www.rel-mar.com. In today's episode, your host, Jon LaClare, leads an important conversation that healthcare marketing rarely explains: the placebo effect and why it deserves far more attention. This discussion is inspired by the launch of Pluseebo, a transparent, intentionally humorous product designed to spark awareness around belief, expectation, and honesty in healthcare. While Pluseebo is lighthearted on the surface, its launch highlights a much deeper reality supported by published scientific research. Placebo responses can produce real, measurable biological effects in the body, including changes in brain chemistry, pain perception, and overall wellbeing. These effects are not imagined, and in many clinical trials they closely mirror the average performance of widely prescribed medications.Tune in as Jon breaks down what healthcare advertising often leaves out, including how modest the average benefit of some antidepressants, pain medications, sleep aids, and other common prescriptions can be when compared to placebo, and why side effects and transparency must be part of the conversation. Grounded in respected medical journals and FDA-reviewed data, this episode offers a research-driven perspective designed to inform, challenge assumptions, and elevate the discussion around modern healthcare. Don't miss this timely conversation on belief, biology, and why understanding the placebo effect changes how health products, treatments, and claims should be evaluated. In today's episode of the Harvest Growth Podcast, we'll cover:What the placebo effect actually is, and why it's not “fake.”What large studies reveal about SSRIs, opioids, sleep medications, anxiety medications, ADHD drugs, and statins. Why prescription drug commercials rarely tell the full storyHow transparency in healthcare affects trust and decision-makingHow Pluseebo is designed to spark honest conversations. To learn more about Pluseebo, visit Pluseebo.com.To be a guest on our next episode of the podcast, contact us today!Do you have a brand that you'd like to launch or grow? Steve is joined by former Congressman J.D. Hayworth (R-AZ), a former member of the House Ways and Means Committee and spokesperson for the Pharmaceutical Reform Alliance, to spotlight the real cost of prescription drugs in America. He talks about PRA's interactive installation on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., where Americans are seeing firsthand how U.S. patients often pay more than three times as much for the same medications compared to other wealthy countries. Hayworth explains why transparency, competition, and common-sense reform matter, and how PRA is collecting personal stories from everyday Americans impacted by skyrocketing drug prices, putting pressure on a system that's clearly not working for patients.
Recent changes to the Postal Service's network could mean slower deliveries of prescription drugs in the mail. A study from the Brookings Institution finds 6% of Americans live far away from a brick-and-mortar pharmacy, rely heavily on mail-order prescriptions and live in areas impacted by USPS consolidation. Brookings finds nearly half of all Americans face at least one of those scenarios. USPS this year has been running trucks less often between its processing plants and post offices to transport mail and packages. In this episode of Disruption/Interruption, host KJ interviews Mark Mincy, Chief Commercial Officer at US RX Care, about the hidden complexities and conflicts of interest in the pharmacy benefits industry. Mark shares how his company is disrupting the status quo by demanding transparency, eliminating conflicts, and helping employers reclaim millions in savings. The conversation uncovers the tangled web of PBMs, rebates, and the urgent need for legislative and technological change. Key Takeaways: The PBM System is Riddled with Conflicts of Interest [2:34]Mark explains how pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) and consultants often act in their own financial interest, not the employer’s or patient’s, leading to inflated drug costs. Rebates and Purchasing Contributions Inflate Drug Prices [8:59]The system of rebates and retrospective payments to PBMs can account for up to 80% of a drug’s cost, forcing manufacturers to raise prices and employers to pay more. Transparency and Fiduciary Duty are Essential for Reform [21:37]Mark’s company, US RX Care, operates with complete transparency, passes back all rebates, and offers per-member-per-month guarantees to eliminate guesswork and conflicts. Employers and Consumers Can Take Action [33:34]Mark recommends joining healthcare purchaser coalitions, hiring ERISA attorneys, and demanding non-conflicted consultants to protect interests and drive industry change. Quote of the Show [31:27]:"Everything's intertwined. You want to move and do the right thing. These employers are between a rock and a hard place, so I do think some legislative action needs to occur." – Mark Mincy Join our Anti-PR newsletter where we’re keeping a watchful and clever eye on PR trends, PR fails, and interesting news in tech so you don't have to. Today, AFSPA Talks Prescription Drug Coverage in 2026. For the first time in a decade, we're making changes to the cost shares for prescription drugs. Join us today to talk through the changes and understand what your costs will be in 2026. See the changes at www.afspa.org/openseason. Price your drugs at www.express-scripts.com/fsbp, and be sure to select 2026. For members who have opted in to the FSBP-Express Scripts Medicare Prescription Drug Plan, or PDP, there will be NO CHANGE to cost sharing. This means that most drugs will cost members less under the PDP. Combine these savings with a wider network of pharmacies and greater flexibility for where you can obtain your maintenance drugs, and this may be the year for members who have Medicare A and/or B to opt in to the PDP. See www.afspa.org/pdp for more details and a pricing tool. You may wish to watch this episode for the slides we share to show the changes. Find the video at www.youtube.com/afspacares. Join us for AFSPA Live, a live Q&A session, on 11/20 @ 11 AM ET. We will be discussing the 2026 FSBP Open Season.
