Prophecy Radio episode #127 finds Karen and Kristen back to discuss the next two chapters of Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods. We catch up on the board games we've played and loved recently (and tell a traumatic board game memory) before discussing the latest news from Rick Riordan and Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Finally, we discuss chapters 24 and 25 of Chalice of the Gods. New episodes of Prophecy Radio will air every other week. All discussions are PG-13. News and Updates (00:09:37) We decide not to worry about the D23 trailer since it has so little new footage for Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2. We are ready and waiting for a real Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 trailer, though. We do have some minor casting announcements to talk about. You can take a look at all the info on the minor casting right here. Timothy Simons as Tantalus, who keeps an eye on activities in Chiron's absence. Kevin Chacon has been recast as Chris Rodriguez We take issue with the article calling him a villain, though. Rosemarie DeWitt will be our C.C. (AKA Circe) Who is not to be confused with Calypso or any other water-related C-named goddesses Aleks Paunovic will be our Polyphemus, although we're not sure to what degree. If they had only cast him for his voice, they would have mentioned that in the announcement, right? Last, but certainly not least, we have our new non-book character played by Beatrice Kitsos … or is she?! Chalice of the Gods discussion (00:29:00) Chapter 24 starts with Percy waking up from a good old regular dream where all the gods were pregnant. And of course it was Annabeth sneaking in his window that woke him. She has a lot to tell him about what she learned about concetrated nectar from Juniper. Is this book influencing the show? Or is the show influencing this book? Percy gave good advice to Grover. Sally would not have a problem with Annabeth in Percy's room. She'd probably just make tea. Trusting moms are some of the best parts of supernatural-being-living-in-a-human-world stories. Annabeth Chase: Scheduler Extraordinaire! We share our favorite lines and moments. Time for chapter 25! And its a big one. Doughnuts to start the day, then time to plug noses and get to work. The menthol to koala/eucalyptus thing took a minute to process. Our trio gets split up by the drops of nectar. Of course Percy is in trouble the minute he's off on his own. Time to meet Gary! He has a very specific look, and its not a flattering one. The god of old age stole the chalice that stops people from getting old. It goes against the natural order of things. Since Percy is the only human to turn down immortality, Geras wanted to give him a chance to understand why this god would steal from Ganymede. Karen reminds us of that reference last week that makes a lot more sense now that we're in the know. Gary is not happy with Percy's reaction and is totally ready to turn him to gravedust. Percy wants to see if there's a deal to be struck. The challenge Geras throws down is not exactly what you would expect… Time to close things out with more favorite lines and favorite moments! Feedback No feedback this week, but we look forward to hearing all your board game recs for next week's episode! Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 128, where we'll discuss the latest Percy Jackson news, along with Chalice of the Gods chapters 26 & 27. Smile 2 stars Naomi Scott as Skye Riley, a pop star who begins to experience a series of increasingly disturbing events just as she is about to embark on tour due to the Smile curse being passed to her. It also features Rosemarie DeWitt, Lukas Gage, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Peter Jacobson, Ray Nicholson, Dylan Gelula, and Raúl Castillo, as well as Kyle Gallner reprising his role from the first film. Smile 2 was released theatrically in the United States on October 18, 2024. Like its predecessor, the film received positive reviews from critics, and grossed over $124 million worldwide. In the following April 2024, a sequel to Smile had entered pre-production, with Finn returning as writer and director. Principal photography took place in early 2024 in New York. In October 2024, Finn described the film as "an exploration of the downfall of this pop star who's unable to overcome the things that have been put upon her." He added, "What I love about the ending of this film is that I wanted to create this meta-feeling moment, where the audience in the arena is staring through the screen at the audience in the movie theater. I wanted to raise the question: Did we do this to Skye? By us coming back for a Smile 2, have we done this to her? It's all intriguing to me, this idea of 'are we complicit in this?'" The film received positive reviews from critics, who said it was an improvement over the first film and praised Naomi Scott's performance. On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 86% of 184 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 6.9/10. The website's consensus reads: "Blessed with a nerve-jangling star turn by Naomi Scott, writer-director Parker Finn broadens Smile's conceit into a pop stardom nightmare that'll leave a rictus grin on horror fans' faces." Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of 66 out of 100, based on 36 critics, indicating "generally favorable" reviews. Audiences polled by CinemaScore gave the film an average grade of "B" on an A+ to F scale (up from the first film's "B-"), while those surveyed by PostTrak gave it a 71% overall positive score (including an average of 3 1/2 out of 5 stars). #smile2 #smile #naomiscott #skyeriley #horror #2024 #review #podcast #analysis #deepdive #scarymovie #film #entertainment #compelteguidetohorror #parkerfinn #sxswsydney #sxsw

This horror sequel was written and directed by Parker Finn and is a follow up to his 2022 film. The film stars Naomi Scott, Rosemarie DeWitt, Lukas Gage, Ray Nicholson, Peter Jacobson & Raul Castillo. In this film, a few days after the events of the first one, a pop singer is on the road to recovery after a year of substance abuse and a near fatal car accident. But her comeback is interrupted when an old friend of hers, who is apparently not himself, dies in front of her, leaving this dark entity to follow her and causing a demonic and ominous “smile” to slowly take over her mind. Parker Finn has stated plans for a sequel before the previous film was released. Once that film was successful, production began on this one. Naomi Scott was casted and immediately began rehearsing for the role as pop star, Skye Riley, a singer inspired by Lady Gaga & Brittany Spears. Although his role is small, the casting of Ray Nicholson was to pay homage to “The Shining”, the 1980 horror classic that starred his father, Jack Nicholson.
Rosemarie DeWitt may not love watching horror movies, but she's certainly an absolute ace when acting in them. Soon after Smile became a genre sensation in 2022, Paramount green lit a sequel. While it was abundantly clear that first-time feature filmmaker Parker Finn was a next-level creative with an exceptional eye for top-tier talent and eerie imagery, the truth of the matter is, we don't often see sequels do the “bigger and better” thing well and with purpose. That's not the case with Finn's Smile 2, however. The sequel focuses on Naomi Scott's Skye Riley, a global pop sensation who hit a rough patch courtesy of substance abuse struggles and a terrible car accident. With her mom and manager, played by DeWitt, at her back, Skye readies herself for her comeback tour. The pressure is astronomical, and her mom often reminds her of just that; she's only getting one second chance. As though the stakes couldn't be higher, Skye then has a downright nightmarish encounter. She witnesses someone take his own life and, in the process, he gives her the smile curse. In celebration of Smile 2's nationwide release, and hugely successful first weekend at the box office, DeWitt joined me for a Collider Ladies Night conversation to celebrate her filmography and dig into why an actor who's terrified of horror films wants to make them. If you're one of those people that tell others that they should smile more, you likely stop doing that after watching the Smile movies. The latest installment is “Smile 2” which carries on the grin win that was 2022's “Smile.” In this sequel, we pick right up after the events of the first movie which then introduces us to Skye Riley, a world famous pop star, who is the next in line for the smile curse. She sees someone off themselves right in front of her and the curse is bestowed upon her as is the plot of these movies. Of course, she starts seeing freaky-deaky visions that gradually drive her mad and causes her to lash out and embarrass herself. Considering that she's a Taylor Swift-type world famous pop star, this raises the stakes exponentially as she's being driven insane but in the very public eye. Can she defeat the smile curse and how many people will die in the process? Is it worth a trip to the theater to find out? Check out this episode to find out! “Smile 2” stars Naomi Scott, Rosemarie DeWitt, Kyle Gallner, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Drew Barrymore, Lukas Gage, Peter Jacobson, Ray Nicholson, Dylan Gelula, Raul Castillo, Zebedee Row and Roberts Jekabsons. Coming two years after the success of the 2022 horror film "Smile," director/writer Parker Finn is back to petrify us with another dark, disturbing, and exceedingly violent entry in what has now become the "Smile" franchise. Matt & Ashley review the new horror film sequel in this episode!

With a claymation look comparable to Wallace And Gromit, this film tackles darker themes with its focus on Grace Pudel (voiced by Sarah Snook) who narrates her life to a pet snail, covering Grace's separation from her twin brother Gilbert (voiced by Kodi Smit-McPhee) and her friendship with the eccentric and elderly Pinky (voiced by Jacki Weaver). Then, Cecilia took us to a new chapter in a horror franchise, Smile 2, which follows the further terror of a parasitic demon that possesses a host and takes the form of people “smiling.” Here, a pop star Skye Riley (played by Naomi Scott) who is mounting a comeback tour begins to experience nightmarish hallucinations and visions while dealing with pressure from fame, fans and her manager mother (Rosemarie DeWitt). Stay tuned for Tristan and Cecilia's pod-exclusive chat including a bonus review of the new crime-comedy-caper Greedy People starring Himesh Patell, Lily James and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, which is also out in cinemas now!

JEFFREY DEAN MORGAN REVEALED TO BUTCHER! The Boys Season 4 Full Reaction Watch Along: https://www.patreon.com/thereelrejects The Boys Season 4 Reaction, Recap, Commentary, Analysis, Spoiler Review, Easter Eggs, & Ending Explained! In "Dirty Business" Vice President-elect Victoria Neumann (Claudia Doumit) drops a bombshell, claiming democracy is a sham at a secretive right-wing fundraiser. She declares that corporations like Apple, Exxon, and Berkshire Hathaway run America, urging the wealthy attendees to support her coup against POTUS-elect Robert Singer (Jim Beaver). With Homelander (Antony Starr) backing her plan, a dangerous plot unfolds to replace Singer and his "woke mob." Homelander's villainy is on full display as he manipulates the elite, framing their coup as a necessity to prevent a supposed liberal takeover. Amidst this chaos, the episode ventures into NSFW territory, reminiscent of past shockers like "Herogasm." Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid) goes undercover as Web Weaver (Spider-Man parody) at the fundraiser but quickly regrets it as he's pulled into disturbing games by Tek Knight (Derek Wilson) and Ashley (Colby Minifie). Despite the absurdity, Hughie's emotional turmoil is palpable, culminating in a heartfelt breakdown to Annie (Erin Moriarty). The action intensifies when Mother's Milk has a heart attack and A-Train must save him. Annie and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) infiltrate Tek Knight's lair, uncovering Homelander's sinister plans for internment camps. They torture Tek by threatening his wealth, learning of the impending horrors. Meanwhile, Sage (Valorie Curry) faces a life-threatening crisis after being shot by MM (Laz Alonso), raising questions about her future as a Supe. The episode also delves into Butcher's (Karl Urban) psyche, revealing his hallucinations of Joe Kessler (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) as a manifestation of guilt. With Election Year gearing up between Donald Trump & Joe Biden, this season seems to be honoring the America we know. FARM ANIMALS & HUGHIE'S DAD ATTACK!! The Boys Season 4 Full Reaction Watch Along: https://www.patreon.com/thereelrejects "Beware The Jabberwock, My Son." The Boys Season 4 Reaction, Recap, Commentary, Analysis, Spoiler Review, Easter Eggs, & Ending Explained! We get the Gen V crossover with Cate & Sam as well as Ted Knight and Hughie Sr. getting Supers powers leading to a Simon Pegg death scene. The episode's bizarre plot centers around a lab run by Victoria Neumann, where her ex-boyfriend experiments with a Supe-killing virus. This leads to an unexpected confrontation with superpowered livestock—buffalos, sheep, and chickens—injecting even more madness into the storyline…but not before getting a parody of Marvel & DC panels at comic-con with their Vought announcement slate! The episode kicks off with The Boys infiltrating Victoria Neumann's secret lab, aiming to steal the Gen V virus, a dangerous bioweapon. Things go awry when the infected animals break free, attacking everyone in sight. Victoria threatens to blow up The Boys and Stan Edgar, who is temporarily out of prison, but her hesitation leads to a wild chase. Amidst the chaos, we see Butcher, MM, Frenchie, and Stan scrambling to escape the superpowered animals. The tension escalates when Victoria, Kimiko, and Starlight, despite their powers, fail to effectively counter the rogue livestock. Starlight's powers falter, and Kimiko's usual combat prowess is subdued, leaving viewers questioning their diminished abilities in this scenario. The episode also highlights the ongoing manipulation and corruption within Vought. At the V52 Expo, a parody of Comic-Con, various new franchises and shows are announced, including A-Train's movies and a new gender-flip series for Gen V's Cate and Sam. Meanwhile, Homelander, seemingly supportive of his son Ryan's reluctance to star in a TV show, ultimately manipulates him into punishing a director for harassment, showcasing the sinister father-son dynamics. Billy Butcher's plan to steal the Supe-killing virus fails, but he reveals a backup strategy involving the kidnapping of Sameer, Vic's ex who can recreate the virus. Butcher's conversation with Joe Kessler, who appears to be a figment of his brain damage, adds another layer of psychological complexity to his character. With Election Year gearing up between Donald Trump & Joe Biden, this season seems to be honoring the America we know. Aren't movie weddings SUCH fun?? :) Well it certainly depends on who's attending of course along with the current emotional states of the families involved. This highly acclaimed melodrama from fifteen years ago focuses on the Buchman's, a family which MIGHT not be in the best place at this time despite their oldest daughter Rachel....getting married. (Hence the title) Rachel is played by Rosemarie DeWitt and the potential monkey wrench in her wedding weekend is the return of her sister Kym who is still in recovery after battling drug addiction for most of her life. Kym is played by Anne Hathaway delivering a shattering performance which earned her an Oscar nomination. What follows is a crazy weekend filled with memorable reunions, loads of music, and some intense arguments. This was directed by the late, great Jonathan Demme (Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia, Something Wild) towards the end of his storied career. It also stars Bill Irwin, Debra Winger, Anna Deavere Smith, and Tunde Adebimpe along with several others.Host & Editor: Geoff GershonProducer: Marlene Gershon https://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

Writer/director Dean Craig's film career took off in 2007 when he wrote the hit UK comedy, Death at a Funeral, starring Matthew Macfadyen, Keeley Hawes and Peter Dinklage, and directed by Frank Oz. The film won several audience awards for Best Film, and was remade in the US starring Chris Rock, Zoe Saldana, Martin Lawrence, and Tracy Morgan. In 2020, Craig turned his attention to directing as well as writing, with his debut film Love, Wedding, Repeat. Craig went on to write and directed The Honeymoon, with Maria Bakalova and Asim Chaudhry, and The Estate, starring Toni Collette, Anna Faris, Kathleen Turner and David Duchovny.Craig's other writing producing credits include the feature films Caffeine, A Few Best Men as well as creating the comedy series, Off the Hook with Jonathan Bailey, and Hit the Road, starring Jason Alexander. "So, you have my rhythm on the page, and then David Duchovny brings his rhythm and his attributes. And then you get this sort of hopefully wonderful collaboration between writer and director and actor. The Estate is the film that I directed most recently, and that's with Toni Colette, Anna Faris, David Duchovny, Kathleen Turner, Rosemarie DeWitt, Ron Livingston, Keyla Monterroso Mejia. Some really wonderful actors and I think a very fun ensemble that we were able to do there. I had a very strange year where I got to do The Honeymoon and The Estate pretty much back to back with no break in between, which was challenging, but also amazing to be one minute in Venice with these fantastic actors. Really, I can't tell you how much I loved working with Maria and Pico and Asim and Lucas. They were all totally different people and personalities, but all fantastic in their own way. And then I jumped onto the set and had those fantastic actors to work with. So it's been quite a year, I have to say."www.imdb.com/name/nm1918877/?ref_=tt_ov_dr www.creativeprocess.infowww.oneplanetpodcast.orgInstagram @creativeprocesspodcast

"What I tend to do is I write for the character and then the actor will come onboard. I've had some incredible talent that I've been very lucky to have been sort of collaborating with, and they'll often bring their own rhythm and their own style, and sometimes their own words to the role. So it's a collaboration, especially when you've got talent, as you mentioned, Rebel Wilson. She's so specific in the way that she does her comedy and the way she plays her role. So she brought a lot of herself to the part that we did in A Few Best Men. And David Duchovny in The Estate also did that. He came with a lot of ideas, a lot of suggestions, a lot of funny things that he wanted to do and try out.So, you have my rhythm on the page, and then David Duchovny brings his rhythm and his attributes. In today's episode of The Discourse, host Mike DeAngelo puts on his tin foil hat to sit down and talk sci-fi with one of the genre's most beloved figures, David Duchovny (“The X-Files,” “Californication,” “Twin Peaks”). The actor/writer/director is currently out promoting a couple of projects dropping around the same time. First, his film, “The Estate,” in which two sisters, played by Toni Collette and Anna Farris, attempt to win over their terminally ill aunt in hopes of becoming the beneficiaries of large estate. Duchovny plays a seedy, perverted cousin, Dick, who also shows up with similar motives. The film also stars Dean Craig (“Death at a Funeral”), Kathleen Turner, Rosemarie DeWitt, Ron Livingston, and and more. During the chat, Duchovny shared that he requested a certain true story from his life be added to the film to really emphasize who his character truly is. He also spoke about potentially returning to the "X-Files" (it really depends) and talked about his new graphic novel, 'Kepler.' --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/theplaylist/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/theplaylist/support
Anna Faris, Toni Collette, David Duchovny, and Rosemarie DeWitt laughed their way through the day as they promoted their latest film, The Estate. The laugh-out-loud funny movie has everything you could imagine: dungeons and dragons, dysfunctional family members, nudity, and that creepy cousin making inappropriate comments every chance he gets. This cast was excited to talk about what it was like working together, with most giving credit to Toni Collette for them hearing about the project and coming on board. Each cast member had their thoughts about their characters and the crazy situations they got themselves into. Faris and Collette talk about the drag-out scene in the kitchen -- while Duchovny and DeWitt say this movie is about family dysfunction but underneath all the crazy, there is love... right? Host: Monica Gleberman Editor: Polina Jdanova Social Media Graphic: Jojo -- Synopsis: Two sisters attempt to win over their terminally ill, difficult-to-please Aunt in hopes of becoming the beneficiaries of her wealthy estate, only to find the rest of their greedy family members have the same idea. *The Estate is in theaters on November 4th. Today we are talking about the 2016 Damien Chazelle film, La La Land staring Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, JK Simmons and Rosemarie DeWitt. The film follows the path of an actress and a pianist as they follow their dreams. Sebastian: I'm letting life hit me until it gets tired. Then I'll hit back. It's a classic rope-a-dope. Some of our favorite parts of this movie are: -The highly saturated cinematography -The task of choreographing the dance number in traffic -The iconic spots of Hollywood as featured locations -Shooting a scene with only 30 minutes of desired lighting -The ENDING!! - AmIrite? "Rachel Getting Married" is undeniable proof that Anne Hathaway is a good, if not great, actress, in a role that deservedly earned her an Oscar nomination. She also happens to be surrounded by an incredible cast of supporting players, in roles ranging from Rosemarie Dewitt's titular Rachel to Roslyn Ruff as Kym's rehab nurse Rosa. We have much to say about Debra Winger's rasp and eventual roar as Abby and probably spend more time queening out on Anna Deveare Smith as stepmom Carol than she even appears in the movie. We could do with less jazz appreciation and frankly more Carol, but this may just be one of our favorite movies. The whole team is here for this one Baddies, all hands on deck for a doozy. Alejandro, Christian, and Fact-Checking King, Otis, review the flick that flew under the radar: Arizona (2018). Starring Danny McBride, Rosemarie DeWitt, Kaitlin Olson, David Alan Grier, Seth Rogen and Luke Wilson, there are SO MANY people in this film, how have you never heard of it. This film is able to balance wit and comedy with murder and suspense. It may seem like a weird mix but its done really well… like salty-sweet. Otis and Christian compare homes even though they used to live three houses apart and the Three Amigos are on their best behavior because Micayla Newsome is in the studio. Alejandro and Christian then let loose and tell Nick Cannon exactly what they think about him.

At a very early age, Wayne Roberts knew he wanted to be involved with filmmaking. Inspired by Tim Burton and Stanley Kubrick, he loved the idea of creating new worlds. But, outside of film, he was inspired by Ernest Hemingway and various other classic authors. Roberts’ is relatively new to the scene, but his first two films have made a big impact. In ‘Katie Says Goodbye,’ Olivia Cooke, Christopher Abbott, Mireille Enos, and Mary Steenburgen star in a film about a 17-year-old waitress-prostitute who wants a better life. In his latest film, ‘The Professor,’ Johnny Depp takes the lead opposite Rosemarie DeWitt in a comedy-drama about a college professor who takes a reckless turn in life once he discovers he’s been diagnosed with a terminal illness. In this interview, the writer-director talks about doing right by the characters, how a flash can turn into a full feature, the logistics of his creative process, the necessity of a powerful screenplay, why films should focus on emotion, and why it’s vital to avoid the trends of cinema. Johnny Depp stars as an English professor for a prestigious New England college named Richard Brown who learns he has late-stage lung cancer and probably only six months to live without treatment, which he doesn't plan on seeking. On top of this, Richard is also a terminally bored, self-absorbed jerk whose own life has been falling apart long before this diagnosis. His wife (Rosemarie DeWitt) is cheating on him, with the chancellor at his school (Ron Livingston), no less. Now he can say whatever he feels like, knowing he's on his way out, and what he has to say is not always kind. With perhaps only months left, he decides to continue to teach his literature class, hoping to impart some actual value to his current crop of students before he succumbs to the disease. He's also going to try to experience life without worrying about the consequences - a life he comes to realize he should have been trying to live all along.

(Mad Men, Touchy Feely, Your Sister’s Sister, Rachel Getting Married, Cinderella Man, La La Land, Little Fires Everywhere) In this podcast, we learned: 1) How can you get acting jobs if you don’t have an agent? 2) How did Rosemarie DeWitt go from hating auditioning to loving it? 3) Why should you be in acting class? 4) What’s a great trick you can use the first time you go on a set?

Enjoy!
