An interview with Kaitlin Brennan, Chief Operating Officer at Leveling the Playing Field. So in terms of impact, yeah, we recognize that it's more than a soccer ball. It's more than just a pair of cleats. What it really translates to is making sure that that kid has the resources he or she needs to be able to step onto the field comfortably, confidently and safely, to engage in something that could be, you know, a sport they're trying for the first time. It could be a physical education class where it's really the only opportunity they have to engage within organized play.Kaitlin BrennanLeveling the Playing Field mission and vision Finding a common sense solution to a real problemLogistics of sports equipment redistributionExpanding to different regionsBuilding trusted partnershipsRemoving equipment cost barriersProject Play Communitieshttps://www.movetolivemore.com/https://www.movetolivemore.com/bookhttps://www.linkedin.com/company/move-to-live-more@MovetoLiveMore

Send us a Text Message. This summer is a sports fan's dream! Beyond some major soccer tournaments, Paris 2024 kicks off at the end of July. If you think about it, sports are science in motion, which means that buried in incredible athletic feats is a lot of data about how athlete bodies are using and responding to chemistry, biology and physics. That data is helping scientists design new or better tools for athletes. Today, in honor of this very sporty summer, Sam and Deboki delve into how scientists go about developing the equipment that helps move athletes, and how that equipment is holding importance for the medical field as well, for instance in diagnosing cystic fibrosis in infants. Sam and Deboki will also cover the creative experiments one scientist did to design a better bike saddle for female pro cyclists, who endured decades of intense injuries that ultimately required many to undergo labiaplasties, until American racing cyclist Alison Tetrick came along and said “enough is enough.” Title IX may have revolutionized female sports participation, but until more recently building gender-specific sports equipment from the ground up was unheard of.Email us your science stories/factoids/news at tinymatters@acs.org for a chance to be featured on an upcoming Tiny Show and Tell Us episode!Subscribe to our newsletter at bit.ly/tinymattersnewsletterLinks to the Tiny Show & Tell stories are here and here. This lets them improve on pre-existing designs on sports gear. We are joined by Koki Asahina, an MSE student from Georgia Tech who is currently a racket sports engineering intern at Wilson Sporting Goods Company, who tells us all about how the “feel” is crucial to the design and improvement of sports equipment, and the large role played by materials science in this.

We talk about their styles of leadership and how their experience in different sports essentially impacted their growth in sales.Jim and Jared share the innovations they're both excited about at CHAMPRO regardless of the sport and equipment being covered. They, however, encourage others to think of CHAMPRO beyond just being just an athletics brand. "Our team builds yours" has been a prime motivator and highlights the dynamic within the company and towards their clients.Of course, best stick around for the Hot Iron with JMo where we touch on the keys to creating business-life harmony, their favorite rock band, and how they each define Bitcoin!HIGHLIGHT QUOTESWhat makes a company special and different is the people - Jim: "Understand that teams are just groups of people that are formed around a common bond, identity, and culture and this is just an expression of it. So whether it's a baseball team, church organization, or an event, it's all about building the brand and bringing people together."Something to keep in mind before jumping in sales - Jared: "One of the biggest pieces of advice I'd give right off the bat is they have to value relationships. When I got into sales and took over the account list I took over, I knew nobody. I had no prior experience in the industry. I was kind of learning as I went but I had great management and huge mentorship."Connect with our amazing guests in the links below:Jim Dusbiber | Jared BuzanIf you enjoyed this episode of In the Club Podcast by Club Colors, please leave us a review on your favorite podcasting platform!

In this episode of The Plant Trainers Podcast, we talk with Troy Akin all about creating eco friendly sports equipment and providing a healthier and more sustainable alternative. This guy really impresses us. He found a plant-based lifestyle as a young athlete and quickly devised a plan to make this lifestyle sustainable in order to recover and perform better as an athlete. He didn't want to be one of those people who stopped doing what he loved because he got older and had to deal with aging wear and tear on the body. Then he was able to make the connection between what we put in our body and the sorts of equipment we use, its carbon footprint, and overall health for the planet. There is some cool stuff in this episode and you'll want to share it with all the young athletes (from recreation to pro) that you know. Troy Akin was born the youngest of 3 boys in Northern California. Coming from an athletic family, all he did was play. After graduating from Chapman University where he played #1 Singles and Doubles for the Men's Tennis Team, he moved up to LA to pursue acting. With minor successes he started businesses in social media marketing and consulting, realty and modelling and more. Being a retired college athlete he thought he could play tennis and basketball and volleyball at the same high level forever, but each year it got harder to wake up, it got harder to recover, it got harder to get motivated. Troy was over that lifestyle, so after reading about a plant based diet, he started and now he has been fully plant based and Vegan for 2 years. Everything just got better. After realizing there was a lack of Vegan sporting goods, Troy went down the rabbit hole to realize not only are sporting goods a very leather intensive industry, but it is also toxic for earth. There had to be a better solution. So with Troy's 7+ years of entrepreneurship and marketing background, Eco Sports was created. In this episode we discuss: Becoming plant based Accidental burger Being a young athlete Recovery The vegan mentality Making the connection to the athletic gear Creating high quality vegan athletic gear

How many times have you set yourself a big fitness goal? Did you achieve it? Research shows that having really specific and fixed goals can actually be a deterrent rather than a motivator. In recent years there's been a shift away from the traditional method of goal-setting known as SMART goals (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timebound); towards a more flexible approach. Gab and Sarah explain the idea behind ‘open goals', and how this is proving to be a more effective way of achieving a fitness target. It's so disappointing when you've been doing the same workouts over and over and you don't see any progress in your strength, or number of reps, or cardiovascular fitness. This episode we're talking endocannabinoids and sports bras (the two are not related!). For years it was thought that the “runner's high” was due to the release of endorphins. Endorphins are chemicals that are produced by the body to relieve stress and pain, and they work on the opioid receptors in the brain (the same receptors that opiate drugs like morphine act upon). An increasing body of evidence suggests that this so-called “runner's high” is notdue to the release of endorphins but is instead due to the release of another type of neurochemical called endocannabinoids. And yes, the word endocannabinoid sounds a lot like the word cannabis, and in the same way that endorphins act upon the opiate receptors in the brain, endocannabinoids act upon the same cannabinoid pathways as cannabis. British researchers inoculated a wide range of equipment including a cricket glove, soccer ball, golf ball, tennis ball, and even a riding saddle with varying doses of CoVid19. When the surfaces of these items were sequentially sampled for live virus, the data showed a rapid decline on cricket gloves as well as on tennis, golf, and some cricket balls. The virus hung around longer on soccer balls, rugby balls, and horse saddles. This data is encouraging but assume any sports equipment in active play to be potentially contaminated. This week on The Roe Show, I interview expert Biomechanist, Dr. Gerald S. George. We discuss some hot topics related to how people view gymnastics and biomechanics and what is really the proper way to learn skills and coach them, as well as the hot topic of safety and his views on it. It is always a good discussion when Gerry is involved! Gerry, as he's referred to, liked gymnastics from an early age, so he started by learning a few tricks. Before he knew it, he was an all-round performer in state meets and championships competing against the best gymnasts in America. That is only the beginning of his life as an important contributor to the sport of gymnastics and other sports involving special types of acrobatic movement. The study of gymnastics, diving, and trampoline movement became Gerry's life work, and he made it safer for many future generations of men and women who will love the crazy movements associated with gymnastics, trampoline and diving. Dr George has received numerous awards and honors throughout his professional career, including the recipient of the C. H. McCloy Research Award in Gymnastics (1971), the National A.A.H.P.E.R.D. Presidential Citation Safety Award (1992); USAG Hall of Fame Inductee (1996); LSU Alumni "Hall of Distinction" Inductee (2011) and World Acrobatics Society "Gallery of Legends" Inductee (2011).... just to name a few. Publications: Dr. George has been a prolific writer and researcher. He has served as author, contributor, and/or Senior Editor to over 10 textbooks and 120 article publications. The most notable of his works include Biomechanics of Women's Gymnastics (Author), both USGF Gymnastics Safety Manuals (Senior Editor and Project Director), The Magic of Gymnastics (Editor and Project Director), The Art and Science of Judging Men's Gymnastics (contributing author) the USA Gymnastic Safety Handbook (contributor), The Advanced Study of Gymnastics (contributing author), Rookie Coaches Gymnastics Guide (contributor), all three AACCA Cheerleading Safety Manuals (Senior Editor and Project Director), The Biomechanics of Competitive Diving (contributing author), and the USA Dive Safe Manual (contributor). Professional Organizations and Activities: Dr. Gerald George belongs to and/or has served in various capacities including Chairperson in at least 17 professional groups. Some examples follow: U.S. representative to the General Gymnastics Committee Member of the F.I.G.; Director of Education and Safety – USAG (1985-1991); Co-Director of the Safety Consortium – American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Administrators (1990 – present), Biomechanics and Safety Consultant - U.S. Diving, Inc. and Member of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM)'s Sports Equipment and Technology Committee, Philadelphia, PA (1984 – Present).
