Steve Crossman presents Euro Leagues with Guillem Balague, James Horncastle & Rafa Honigstein. They catch up with Andorran legend Ildefons Lima, who after 26 years, 2 months and 20 days has retired - making him the longest serving player in men's international football. He made his debut aged 17 back in 1997, the panel reminisce about their lives (and musical tastes) at that time. And despite Brighton's first taste of European football ending in defeat, the panel discuss the impact Roberto De Zerbi has had on the club – a year on from his appointment. TOPICS 06.08 – Manchester United and Andre Onana 15.33 – Ildefons Lima 22.56 – Brighton and Roberto de Zerbi
The club season might be over in 42 UEFA countries, but co-hosts Lee Wingate and Paul Watson have plenty of stand-out international headlines to work their way through on the latest episode of The Sweeper, which was edited by Tom Middler. The first segment of the pod is dedicated to Lee's trip to see San Marino, who extended their unwanted world-record winless run to 130 games against Kazakhstan in Parma - despite giving a pretty impressive account of themselves in the first half. The next segment covers the other major talking points from the international period, including Moldova's stunning comeback win against Poland, Luxembourg's first back-to-back EURO qualifying victories since 1995 & a series of stunning records set by Andorran legend Ildefons Lima. Next up is our main story for this episode, the treble achieved by OPBG in the Vatican, before we turn our attentions to the man on Interpol's wanted list who submitted takeover bids in Belgium and St. Kitts & Nevis' qualification for the Gold Cup. There's also an honourable mention for Father Ted, Craig Bellamy and the Eurovision Song Contest. RUNNING ORDER PART 1 - Lee's visit to Parma to see San Marino & the Kazakh fan that travelled 5,000km only to be denied entry (00:44) PART 2 - The big headlines from the international period: Moldova's success, Luxembourg's upturn & Ildefons Lima's records (17:46) PART 3 - A Vatican treble for the Children's Hospice, a suspicious takeover attempt or four in Belgium & St. Kitts & Nevis at the Gold Cup (32:37)
This week is Veteran's day, and we want to thank Jason… unfortunately, he didn't show. But more importantly: how to talk to people about abortion--especially those with whom we disagree. How do we keep it from becoming a fight? When do we walk away? When is it better to plant a seed and let it grow? In current events, we discuss Pope Francis's threat to abdicate the Andorran co-monarch if they legalize abortion. And, of course, the election results: how bad was it? Also, Asia Bibi's freedom. And finally: why was Obama such a wuss?VIEW ON APPLE PODCASTS VIEW ON GOOGLE PODCASTS VIEW ON AMAZON VIEW ON AUDIBLE VIEW ON CASTBOX VIEW ON PODCASTADDICT VIEW ON STITCHER VIEW ON BITCHUTE VIEW ON RUMBLE VIEW ON TUNE-IN VISIT US ON FACEBOOK

Hello, is this Pizza Hut? Excellent. My name is Ben Shapiro. Conservative thought leader. Prominent white YouTuber. The Muggsy Bogues of the intellectual dark Web. And—look, it's just a fact—I would like to order some pizza pie. If you are triggered by that request, I do not care. I truly do not. Now let's discuss conditions. First, thank you for agreeing to debate me. Typically, in fora such as this, I am met with ad-hominem mudslinging, anything from “You racist creep” or “Is that your real voice?” to raucous schoolyard laughter and threats of the dreaded “toilet swirly.” However, your willingness to engage with me over the phone on the subject of pizza shows an intellectual fortitude and openness to dangerous ideas which reflects highly on your character. Huzzah, good sir. Huzzah. Second, any pizza I order will be male. None of this “Our pizza identifies as trans-fluid-pan-poly”—no. Pizza is a boy. With a penis. It's that simple. It's been true for all of human history, from Plato to Socrates to Mr. Mistoffelees, and any attempt to rewrite the pillars of Western thought will be met with a hearty “Fuh!” by yours truly. And, trust me, that is not a fate you wish to meet. Now. With regard to my topping preference. I have eaten from your pizzeria in times past, and it must be said: your pepperoni is embarrassingly spicy. Frankly, it boggles the mind. I mean, what kind of drugs are you inhaling over there? Pot?! One bite of that stuff and I had to take a shower. So tread lightly when it comes to spice, my good man. You do not want to see me at my most epic. Like the great white hero of Zack Snyder's classic film “300,” I will kick you. Onions, peppers—no, thank you. If I wanted veggies, I'd go to a salad bar. I'm not some sort of vegan, Cory Booker weirdo. And your efforts to Michelle Obama-ize the great American pizza pie are, frankly, hilarious. Though not as funny as the impressively named P'Zone—when I finally figured out that genuinely creative pun, I laughed until I cried and peed. A true Spartan admits defeat, and I must admit that, in this instance, your Hut humor slayed me, Dennis Miller style. And, with that, you have earned my order. Congratulations. Ahem. Without further ado, I would like your smallest child pizza, no sauce, extra cheese. Hello? Aha. A hang-up. Another triggered lib, bested by logic. Damn it. I'm fucking starving. I think that it's ok to be sexually aroused by Pokemon. More so, I think it should be encouraged in the games and anime, and GameFreak should lean into it. Firstly, some Pokemon are shown to be much smarter then humans. Kadabra has been said to have an IQ over 5000, which is gigantically more than the definition of an animal, which have an IQ between 0 (Worms and Fish) and 65 (Apes and Octopus). Thus, they are smarter then needed to be able to give consent. Secondly, the argument could be made they are not as empathetic as humans, and thus can't give consent. This is proven not to be true numerous times in the anime, by watching Meowth. In Season 2, Episode 16 of the Pokemon show, it is established that he is no smarter or different then regular Pokemon, he simply learnt to walk by watching a dance rehearsal and later learnt English through a picture book. Throughout the following seasons, it's shown how he schemes, laughs, cries and even at points, deceives people into thinking he is a human (in order to steal Ash's Pikachu of course). And the last piece of damning evidence - a folk tale in the Canalave Library (Pokémon Diamond and Pearl) literally STATES that humans used to marry Pokémon. This was removed in the English translation. Gamefreak, if you wanted us to fuck Pokémon, just say it. Conclusively, Pokemon aren't animals. They are intelligent, with empathy and kindness, and should be treated as equals. Denying them the right to have sex with humans removes their freedom, which is racist, and frankly, unamerican. Sergi "Bobby" Verdeguer of Persefone & I have a conversation about how he coped with 2020/2021, being sober, the soundtrack of his youth, his first shows, "Metanoia", a dream tour, how he has been filling the void & the Andorran scene. Throughout this chat, Bobby enjoyed BrewDog's "Punk AF" the non-alcoholic IPA, while I enjoyed 5e Baron 's "Pont D'Or" the 5.5% New England Pale Ale. It poured out with a killer deep yellow hazy veil, smashed sweet tropical fruit on the nose & slapped a light juicy finish. This is a Heavy Montreal presents Vox&Hops episode!
(9/16/20) On March 10, 2015, the tiny country of Andorra, located between France and Spain in the Pyrenees mountains, found itself at the center of one of the most convoluted and outrageous bank robberies in modern history. That was the day that Spanish, American and Andorran government officials shut down Banca Privada d'Andorra in an efforts to destroy the Catalonian Independence Movement. The action caused dozens of innocent bank customers to lose their life savings or face prison time for money laundering crimes they never committed. Join us for a look at what really happened in Andorra in this installment of Leonard Lopate at Large on WBAI.
The big interview this week comes from a woman who (we think?!) has sung at Eurovision more times than anyone else. Dea Norberg takes us all the way back to 1999, as well as explaining how you represent two countries on the same night. The European Quiz and One Second Song return, and there's plenty of Junior Eurovision chat too. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Andorra, a tiny, independent country situated between France and Spain in the Pyrenees mountains with a total population of 80,000 people found itself at the center of one of the most convoluted and outrageous bank robberies in modern history: on March 10, 2015, Banca Privada d'Andorra (BPA), a private bank in Andorra, was shut down by Spanish, American, and Andorran governments in Spain’s efforts to destroy the Catalonian Independence Movement thus leaving dozens of innocent civilians facing prison for money laundering crimes that never existed, and scores of innocent families have had their entire life savings stolen from them. The incentive for the Spanish government to destroy BPA was part of Spain's ongoing "Operation Catalonia"—a covert state-sponsored war-like operation meant to undermine the progress of Catalonia’s efforts to separate from Spain due to generations of humanitarian and economic repression Madrid has inflicted upon Catalonia. America's incentive was to protect Spain's interests, as they are an ally of the United States. Andorra's incentive appears to be purely economical on behalf of its leadership. Director Eric Merola, (Burzynski, Second Opinion: Laetrile at Sloan-Kettering, Burzynski: The Cancer Cure Cover-Up, and The God Cells) joins us to talk about this shocking, but true story of an international banking system, and a regulatory oversight regime that is only incidentally concerned with banking integrity or financial criminality. In our first episode we introduce you to the principality of Andorra. The oldest state in Europe when it comes to borders. One of the youngest when it comes to having a constitution. Here are the key stats we mention in the episode: GENERAL 468 km² - the entire area of Andorra 78.000 inhabitants In Europe but not a member of the EU. Located the middle of the Pyrenees mountains (between Spain and France). Access: only by road (through Spain or France) and medicalised helicopter. Parliamentary co-principality (our laws need to be ratified by the Bishop of la Seu d'Urgell and the President of France). MEDICAL PERSPECTIVE 1 hospital: 168 beds total - Normal beds: 135 - ICU beds: 16 (at the beginning of the outbreak) - Special beds (isolation or security): 7 - Reserve beds (6 normal, 2 ICU, 2 isolation): 10 Mechanical ventilation capacity at the beginning of the outbreak: 16. It was very quickly increased to 20, later to 27 and we are now there are 31. Since March 13 Andorra went from 1 mechanical ventilator for every 4,875 inhabitants to 1 for every 2,516 inhabitants. CONTROL MEASURES SINCE THE COVID-19 OUTBREAK The Andorran constitution foresaw the possibility of limiting citizens rights but there had never been a need to develop a Law of the States of Alarm and Emergency. The Law was approved by the parliament during this crisis and is now in force. Notwithstanding the aforementioned, Andorran Government has not declared the State of Alarm so far, as its citizens are trusted to be able to behave according to the measures and recommendations taken. Andorra doesn’t have an army but counts on the defence from Spain and France. In case of emergency and lack of professional police capacity, Andorran men over 18 years can be called on for help. ECONOMIC PERSPECTIVE Tourism and retail represent a big part of our economy. STRATEGY SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE OUTBREAK Early lockdown to avoid health system overload. Testing: the Andorran government strategy will be based on testing the whole Andorran population for antibody detection twice. 158,400 antibody detection test have been bought for this purpose and are on their way here as we record the episode. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/mountainsdidnotmove/message

Thousands had arrived at the Olympic Stadium in Kiev to watch Poroshenko go head to head with his opponent, comedian Vladimir Zelenskiy, but according to the BBC, the pair had never agreed on the date for the event. Zelenskiy, who beat Poroshenko in the first round of the presidential election, had called for the debate to be held at the stadium and broadcast on all TV channels, but according to the BBC, Zelenskiy had wanted to hold the debate this coming Friday, two days before the run-off vote. Left standing alone at the podium Sunday, Poroshenko used the event to answer journalists’ questions and attack his opponent According to Radio Free Europe, the Olympic stadium said it had also received a request to hold a debate this Friday, meaning Zelenskiy could still show up then and speak to supporters alone. https://www.politico.eu/article/petro-poroshenko-ukraine-election-debates-empty-podium-after-opponents-no-show/ S&D notice Romanian Social Democrats are really corrupt This took much much longer than expected. The Social Democrats have consistently been on the edge of EU investigation for their shady "reforms"... their EU friends only now notice. The weapons are incompatible with Nato defence systems, prompting US vice president Mike Pence to warn Turkey it must choose between being a critical player in Nato "or risk the security of that partnership by making reckless decisions". ##US to lift arms ban on Cyprus in message to Turkey US senators have introduced a bipartisan bill to lift an arms embargo on Cyprus amid heightened tension over Russian arms. The bill authorises €5m of military aid to Cyprus and Greece after Turkey defied the US by buying a Russian-made anti-aircraft system and challenged Cyprus on rights to new gas finds in the Mediterranean. The 1987 embargo was meant to help make peace in the frozen conflict on northern Cyprus. https://euobserver.com/tickers/144643 https://euobserver.com/tickers/144616 LePen can't get a loan Mildly funny. Under the deal EKRE would have interior, environment, rural, trade and IT portfolios, while Fatherland would control defence, justice, foreign affairs and culture. https://euobserver.com/tickers/144603 Spooooky Brexit Yes yes, everyone knows there's a Brexit extension that may or may not go until Halloween (ooooooo). The UK may have to run EU parliament elections.. which really messes up the polling and puts the S&D under 20 seats behind the EPP... so yeah left coalition fun times? Probably not, but.. eh. eh

And finally: why was Obama such a wuss?
We spend time with Andorra's FC Santa Coloma. Despite being a modest club, the Andorran champions do have a rather special left-back...the former World Cup winner Joan Capdevila. But could this be the end of his illustrious career? We speak to Capdevila and his team-mates as they take on Armenia's Alashkert in the first qualifying round of the Uefa Champions League. We're also in Mitrovica for Trepca 89 v Vikingkur, the first Champions League match to be played in Kosovo. (Picture: BBC)
