In the final week of our God, Help Me With… series, Pastor Aaron tackles the struggle many of us face but often avoid talking about: breaking bad habits. Whether it's with food, technology, substances, or relationships, we all have patterns that pull us away from who we truly want to become. Drawing from Scripture and his own personal story, Pastor Aaron reminds us that real change doesn't start with willpower. It starts with surrender. When we are at our weakest, God's strength is more than enough. This message is a powerful call to define the habits holding us back, prepare for our weakest moments, and trust that God will always provide a way out.

Skies Turn Black are an electronic metal band from the North of England, taking influence from guitar driven heavy metal and incorporating features of dance music. Their brand of metal can chop and change genre, to go from being rich in 80's heavy metal nostalgia with riffs and huge choruses to keytar led synth sections with aggressive drops that still packs that heavy punch. Since the release of 'No Place Like Home' in 2018, Skies Turn Black have added a keytar to line up, diversifying their sound to explore what genre bending electronics can add to the heavy metal at the core of the band. The result has taken the heaviness of dance music such as dubstep, to create an impactful twist to your run of the mill metal. Since their appearance at Bloodstock 2023, the band have played across the UK, performing at sold out shows in Sunderland, Nottingham, Huddersfield and Bristol. Away from the stage, the band have worked tirelessly to refine their sound. The end result being their stunning new album 'Broken Hearts & Bad Habits'. The new album puts more focus than ever on hooks, whilst keeping the band's intricate guitar work and anthemic choruses. Every song on the album exposes a vulnerability, addressing personal issues of love and lust, heartbreak and depression, as each song undertakes a journey of self-worth. Each song can be categorised as either a “Broken Heart” or a “Bad Habit” song. 'Broken Hearts And Bad Habits' will be released on June 27th, 2025, via Sliptrick Records. We spoke to bassist Dan Woodhead about the new album, the work that has gone into it, Skies Turn Black's journey since we last spoke (Bloodstock 2023), and so much more. Over-promising and under-delivering has been the habit of Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) for decades, with businesses and counties enduring financial hardships from ODF's inconsistent timber sales. House Bill 3103 with the -1 amendment seeks to address these concerns by requiring ODF to create five-year projections on Sustainable Harvest Levels (SHL) by December 31, 2026 and to offer one-fifth of this timber for sale annually. If there is a deficit in volume from the previous year, it will be added to the volume of the following year. The proposal also accounts for exceptions due to changing forest dynamics like wildfire, disease, and pests. HB 3103 also grants standing for those receiving funds from state timber sales to sue ODF if the SHLs are not published or met.In the 1940s, counties placed thousands of acres of forest land in a public trust with the state of Oregon. Millions of dollars were expected to be generated from this arrangement. But in recent decades, ODF has consistently failed at meeting sale projections. In a state with some of the most stringent timber harvest regulations worldwide, unpredictable harvest levels will cause end-users to import timber from less regulated regions. Oregon timber is harvested responsibly, but the only way to ensure that Oregon's environmental priorities are impactful is by creating a consistent supply of Oregon timber products.

Our culture is so anti bedsharing that we tend to only hear (or interpret) bedsharing stories as scary, bad, worse case scenario situations. In this episode, I'm unpacking the idea that bedsharing is a bad habit or a tool parents are scared of using. So many parents feel like if they bedshare they'll get stuck bedsharing for forever and look at other families' long term bedsharing as a cautionary tale, rather than a tool that worked for that family. I share some thoughts around the fact that bed sharing is biologically normal, and many babies transition in and out of bedsharing relatively easily. I also discuss the babies who do struggle with the transition away from bedsharing with the context that these babies were also struggling with sleeping separately and generally bedsharing reduces that struggle. If the goal is to prioritize sleep, then use the tools that prioritize sleep and change them when you are ready to down the road. What if the person you think you are is an outdated idea? In this episode, we explore how habits form—not from logic, but from history. From childhood rules to adult rituals, your behaviours aren't just choices. They're echoes. We look at behavioural debt: how the past continues to extract payments from your present and what you can do about it. We look expansively at different ways we pick up all these habits and identities, and then use 5 ideas from psychology and philosophy to fix them. There's a monk shedding illusions, a writer who redefined his identity, and a cycling team that changed everything with 1% improvements. These aren't just stories. They're invitations—to become intentional, to design rituals that serve who you want to be, not who you used to be. Takeaways: Reframe your identity as something you craft, not inherit Use “identity microshifts” to pay off your behavioural debt Hack your own Fresh Start Effect—even on a random Tuesday Learn how to become yourself through subtraction instead of adding more things If you've ever felt like your habits were someone else's or like your current actions no longer serve who you are, this episode will make a lot of sense to you. The real work isn't in learning more—it's in unlearning what no longer fits. Feedback

Start Your Transformation Now In today's episode, you'll learn why it has been so hard to break your bad habits. The reason why is that people try to use willpower to break bad habits and willpower is a conscious process and habits come from the reptilian brain. When you got up this morning you didn't say “ok I'm going to get out of bed then go to the bathroom then shower”…. it happened automatically without conscious analytical thought. All of us go through life on autopilot, and if you have what you do not want, you've created that on autopilot. If you want to create new things in life, you've got to create new habits. In this episode you'll learn: Your entire life is a habit. You must focus on creating the habits that create the outcome that you want. Most people have a story that it's hard to break a habit. Most people try and create change with the wrong part of the brain My habit program that will show you how to eliminate any habit without using willpower Listen, apply, and enjoy! Transformational Takeaway You are not your habits. You are not your urges. You are not your habit voice telling you to go into your habits. (That's your reptilian brain talking) You are you and your brain runs your habits. You cannot change your habits by fighting them. You must communicate with reptilian brain and it becomes easy for you to break your habits. #169: Today's Ask The Everygirl Question is: “Up until February, I was doing a great job and felt so good: I got into running, Pilates, fueling my body with healthy food, and working on my dating life. But this past month, I've hit a wall...My bad habits are coming back–how can I strengthen my willpower?" Consider this episode a masterclass in building healthy habits and ditching habits that don't serve you.
