Oxford Bible Church - Living in the Last Days

When we are feeling empty or spiritually depressed, or when circumstances make us aware of our weakness, that is a great opportunity to grow in God by turning to Him and asking Him to fill our void. We must be thirsty for God before we drink of His living water (Isa 55:1, John 7:37, Rev 21:6, 22:17). When our soul is full of worldly things we have no room for God, but “blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness (God's Word and Spirit) Presence, for they shall be filled (with God's Presence)” (Matt 5:6). In Psalm 42 the psalmist is depressed and thirsty for the living God (v1-2), so He turns to God to fill him. Inspired by the local scenery, where the river Jordan flows out from Mount Hermon at Banias and tumbles down in waterfalls, he focuses on God, seeing these waters as a picture of God's river of life (v6), and then cries out from the depth of his heart (need) to the depths of God to fill him: “Deep calls unto deep at the noise (sound) of Your waterfalls (of grace)” (v7a). Through His Word, we hear the sound of His river of life flowing to us, and respond by calling out to Him to fill us. As a result: “all Your waves and billows (of love, peace and joy) have gone over me. The Lord will command His lovingkindness in the daytime” (v7b-8). The Oil Miracle (2Kings 1-7), when God filled all the empty vessels that were presented to Him with His Oil (representing the Holy Spirit) reveals that He is willing to fill all the empty parts of our soul with His Spirit, if we turn to Him, present them to Him, and ask Him to fill us. The Oil only stopped flowing when there were no longer any empty vessels to fill. So our empty voids (our awareness of our weakness and need) are a great opportunity to turn to god and be filled.

Fund conversations that matter: donate.accessmore.com During today's conversation on Back Porch Theology – the final of three podcasts we recorded live in Israel – we're exposing some stuff to the light that the enemy of our souls would rather us keep hidden because he has a better chance of tormenting us in the dark. Before we go any further, I'd like to encourage you to make sure there aren't any kiddos listening today because this podcast includes a very vulnerable, ultimately triumphant testimony that includes trauma which might be a bit heavy for little hearts. The catalyst for this bondage-breaking theme was a site we explored in the Golan Heights called Caesarea Philippi – not to be confused with Caesarea By the Sea which we talked about last week. Although, Caesarea Philippi's beauty is water-based as well because it sits at the foot of Mount Hermon, so the abundance of snow run-off combined with a large spring called Banias makes it a lush green oasis of flora and fauna. But there's also a big, dark cave carved into the hillside at Caesarea Philippi that was the center of pagan worship in ancient times. Sacrifices were often cast into that cave as offerings to the false god Pan, whom you may remember from Greek mythology as the half-man/half-goat playing a flute and flirting with nymphs. In light of Pan's secular popularity, it's especially fitting that Caesarea Philippi is also the place where Jesus asked Peter, “Who do you say that I am?” to which Peter confessed that He was the Messiah. The Christ. The King of all kings who would conquer fear and death once and for all. If you struggle with some level of anxiety, our sincere hope and prayer is that God will use today's conversation to ease your burden. Your precious shoulders weren't shaped to carry that crushing load. Paul says it best at the beginning of Galatians 5: It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. So please grab a cup of coffee and your Bible – unless you're re-staining your deck, of course – and come hang out on the porch with us! In this continuing study I take a look at the Rapture Doctrine. Is this a Pre-Trib, as taught in most mainstream Churches are do Christians go through the Tribulation Period? I compare Thessalonians to Matthew 24 along with Revelation. I venture into Paul's writings to explore what he has to say, along with what Yahweh says in Ezekiel. I also ask the listeners to grab a pencil and paper as we create charts for comparison as we get deeper into this study. In this Part 39 I continue our study on the Key of David, Luke 11:45-52 and Matthew 16.We are instructed with this key, that we can unlock anything as far as learning Yahweh's Word [logos], that is to say the wisdom of Yahweh's Word, the knowledge of His Word, and so on.This key could be a piece of a puzzle, just as the Word can be a puzzle to some of us!This key could be a code, unlocking the mysterious of languages.By having, using and knowing this key, we can unlock the true meaning of Yahweh's Word, even those Parable put forth by Yahshua Messiah.45           Lawyers = teachers of the law, scripture lawyers, [liars, cheaters etc.]. Men learned in the law; but it is not known in what way the lawyers differed from the “scribes,” or whether they were Pharisees or Sadducees.Reproachest = “hoo-brid'-zo” to exercise violence, that is, abuse, insult47           Woe unto you = Meaning particularly the lawyers or Scribes, together with the Pharisees, and even the whole body of the people, who in general were of the cast and nature here described.52           key = A key is made to open a lock or door. By their false interpretation of the Old Testament they had taken away the true key or method of understanding it.Matthew 1613           Cesarea Philippi = There were two cities in Judea called Caesarea. One was situated on the borders of the Mediterranean, and the other was the one mentioned here. This city was greatly enlarged and ornamented by Philip the tetrarch, son of Herod, and called Caesarea in honor of the Roman emperor, Tiberius Caesar. To distinguish it from the other Caesarea the name of Philip was added to it, and it was called Caesarea Philippi, or Caesarea of Philippi. It was situated in the boundaries of the tribe of Naphtali, at the foot of Mount Hermon. It is now called Panias (from a cavern in its neighborhood dedicated to the god Pan) or Banias, and contains (circa 1880's) about 200 houses, and is inhabited chiefly by Turks. Keep in mind that this city was well known for their pagan deities throughout the area!15           The Messiah now asking His Disciples who they thought He was!If you have this Key of David, you should know who the Messiah is.  There is new evidence that may lead us to think on the fact that Yahshua Messiah may have been standing in front of these pagan deities statues when He asked this question. Therefore the disciples may have been looking over His shoulder right at these pagan statues when they gave their answersDon't end up like those in Hosea 4:6 ‘My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God (Elohim), I will also forget thy children.'But, be like those in 2Timothy 2:15 ‘Study to shew thyself approved unto God (Yahweh), a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.'Join me as we go Chapter by Chapter, Verse by Verse, Unraveling the Words of Yahweh!Have any questions?

“What about you?” [Jesus] asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” — Matthew 16:15-16 A trip to Israel, to visit places where Jesus walked, may include a stop at Banias in the northern part of the country. Banias was a settlement at the foot of Mount Hermon, and a spring from there makes a river that flows into the Jordan River. At the time of Jesus' ministry, Banias was called Panias and was dedicated to the worship of the Greek god Pan. So it is not surprising that as Jesus and his disciples went into that area, he asked them a defining question: “Who do you say I am?” In other words, “Do you recognize me for who I really am, or am I just another object of worship like you see here? How do you discern my person, my teaching, and my miracles?” Peter, inspired by God, responded by saying, “You are the Messiah”—that is, the Christ (“Anointed One”). Peter declared that Jesus was the anointed Son of God who came to bring the kingdom of God. Jesus came to restore all that is broken by sin. Decidedly different from false Greek gods and the worship they were known for, Jesus is the true “Son of the living God.” Jesus is the real thing. Who do you say Jesus is? Loving God, you sent Jesus into this world to provide freedom for everyone held captive by sin, suffocating under the lies of spiritual darkness. Thank you for guiding us to know Jesus for who he really is. For Jesus' sake, draw many more to him today. Amen.

This site is technically not in Palestine but in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights. It is only a few kilometers west of Tel el Qadi (Tel Dan) and it is really a beautiful ancient site with an interesting history. It was the most northern part of the region that Jesus ever visited and according to the Bible it was here that he first confirmed to his disciples that he was the Messiah. Banias is called after the Greek god of fertility, nature and wildlife: Pan. It was believed that his birth cave was here in the big cliff and the same cave was considered to be the entrance to Hades, the underworld, where the fertility gods would spent time during winter. People used to come and sacrifice goats to Pan by throwing them in the spring. If the goat did not sink down then the sacrifice was not accepted and they would toss in new born babies. During excavations a lot of statues of deities were found and remains of Temples that were built in Greek and Roman time. The son of Herod the Great, Philip, made it the capital of his territory and named it Caesarea Philippi, after the emperor Caesar Augustus and after himself. It was a thriving Roman city. Jesus never entered the city but he came up to the cave of Hades to proclaim that he would be victorious over death. After his visit to Banias he went down south towards Jerusalem and on one of the mountains, thought to be Mount Tabor, the transfiguration happened and he radiated in glory and he was seen by his apostles with Moses and Elijah.Connect to Stories from Palestine podcast on social media, follow on YouTube and support on Ko-fi, all links through this linktree: https://linktr.ee/StoriesfrompalestineIf you are interested in the October program in Palestine (3 - 14 October 2022) then you can find more information on https://storiesfrompalestine.info/travel-to-palestine/ If you enjoy listening to Stories from Palestine then you should also check out the podcast Jerusalem Unplugged. Come to a special place in the foothills of Mount Hermon called Caesarea Philippi. It is from here that the River Jordan begins its downward journey through the Land of Israel. It was here that Jesus took His disciples to reveal Himself to them as the Messiah and glorious Son of God. It was here that Jesus announced the formation of His Church, which would prevail over the Gates of Hell. It was here that He gave us the Keys of the Kingdom. It was from here that He started to set His face to go to the Cross. This book will open up in a new way the many revelations that Jesus gave us at one of the major turning points in His ministry. He chose to come to this place for a reason. In 'Revelations at Caesarea Philippi' you will find out why. In this book, Derek also reveals what the Bible tells us about the Nephilim, and their connection to Mount Hermon. In the most northern part of historic Palestine is an archaeological site, now within a National Park, that has remains of the Bronze Age city of Laish and of the iron age city of Dan. In Arabic the location is called Tel el Qadi, the hill of the judge. This archaeological site has two very impressive city gates that were excavated. The Bronze Age gate was built by the Canaanites who called their city Laish. They built a mud brick gate with pointed arches, the oldest one found in the region (18th Century BC). The city was conquered by the Israelites who built new walls and new gates. The iron age gate that was excavated is built of local basalt blocks and has four chambers. At the gate they found a platform with stones in which sticks could be placed to hold up a canopy to create shade for the judge (hence the hill of the judge). It is also the site where the Israelite King Jeroboam set up a high altar with a golden calf where the Jewish people could worship their God Yahweh instead of going to Jerusalem in the south. The sacrificial area that the excavators found is thought by some scholars to be that place. The excavations are found in the Tel Dan National Park. Through this National Park the Dan stream flows down towards the Jordan river. The other contributors to the Jordan river are the Hasbani river and the Banias river. The Yadava Clan,  twenty-two in number, after the Mahabharata War, migrated towards Iran and spread to Iraq and move on to Israel before proceeding further. In the Iranian city of Susa of Parthian period(247 BC -224 AD) was found a statue of Lord Krishna .As to the word Parthian, one of the name of Arjuna is Partha and Krishna is also known as Parthasarathy. The above one is from Iraq, where a stamp was issued to celebrate the Mosul spring Festival.   In Israel there is a River Kishon. ‘The Kishon River (Hebrew: נחל הקישון‎, Nachal HaKishon; Arabic: نهر المقطع‎, Nahr el-Mokatta,[1][2] or Mukutta',[3] – the river of slaughteror dismemberment; Alternative Arabic, الكيشون al-Qisun) is a river in Israel that flows into the Mediterranean Sea near the city of Haifa.-wiki And there is a Town called as Bal Gad. A place in ancient Israel, Baal-Gad was a Canaanite town in the valley of Lebanon at the foot of Hermon, near the source of Jordan River. (Josh. 13:5; 11:17; 12:7) It was the most northern point to which Joshua's conquests extended. It probably derived its name from the worship of Baal. Its exact location is uncertain, but it is generally considered to be Hasbaya in Wadi et-Teim or a site nearby.-wiki Easton's suggests that its modern representative is Banias. Some have supposed it to be the same as Baalbek. Others have suggested that it is the same location as Baal-hamon The Canaanite God Thunder is Baal. Krishna as a Child is worshiped as Balakrishna. See the Image. Is this Krishna with calf? And Krishna is called fondly as Kanhaiya in the North. Is this Canaan” Prof. P. N. Oak has argued that Baal is none other than Baleshwara or Sri Krishna and that the Canans were the people of Kanha or Sri Krishna. https://ramanisblog.in/2015/02/10/krishna-in-iraq-iran-israel-kishon-river/ --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ramanispodcast/message

This week on The Micah Hanks Program, we launch into this week's news with a look at the European Space Agency's ambitions to study our Sun. Meanwhile, something odd is sending messages to Earth... are we getting any closer to solving the mystery of fast radio bursts?  Then later in the program, there is perhaps no place in paranormal lore that has attracted more attention than Skinwalker Ranch, a property in Utah that is renowned for being a "hotspot" for UFO and other unexplained activity. Joining us to discuss the ranch and its odd history is journalist MJ Banias, an author whose work regularly appears in Popular Mechanics and VICE, and whose latest feature piece for the latter publication chronicles his trip to the fabled Utah ranch location. Banias is the author of The UFO People: A Curious Culture, and was a contributor to the anthology UFOs: Reframing the Debate. This week on The Micah Hanks Program, we lead off with a Halloween-themed news segment that looks at a pair of real "monsters" of nature, as well as a strange (and scary-looking) creature from Madagascar that locals call "cursed," and which has been keeping a remarkable secret. Also, we have the fright-inducing news about what constant exposure to blue light might actually be doing to us.  Then for our "Unidentified October" segment, we begin with a look at the news about Tom Delonge's To The Stars Academy's recent contract agreement with the U.S. Army, and what that means. We're also joined for a segment by author M.J. Banias, a writer for VICE and author of the book The UFO People. M.J. is a history teacher who offers both a historical and philosophical perspective on the UFO subject, as well as people's belief systems pertaining to it. You can learn more about M.J. at his blog Terra Obscura.  Then in the final half of the show, we continue our study of famous monsters of the horror genre with a look at one of the most famous horror novels of all time, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, which has frightened readers and inspired countless versions and spinoffs in film and other media. However, the message behind the story and its misguided protagonist, Victor Frankenstein--a man who attempted to "play God" with terrible consequences--remains as strong today. Especially as we look at news like that of scientists who may be growing sentient brain matter in the laboratory... at one point should we say that such experiments have gone too far?  Below are links to stories featured in this week's episode:  Scientists discover big storms can create ‘stormquakes’ 'Cursed' Primate Weirdos Have Extra Thumbs.
