Martyr Eudocia of Heliopolis (2nd c.)

Saint of the Day

Eudocia was from Heliopolis of Phoenicia (now Baalbek in Lebanon). A surpassingly beautiful pagan, she led a licentious life and became wealthy from the gifts of her many lovers. One day an elderly monk, Germanus, came to Heliopolis and stayed with a Christian whose house adjoined Eudocia's. At night, he began to read aloud from the Psalter and a book on the Last Judgment. From next-door, Eudocia heard him. Her heart was reached, and she stood attentively all night, listening to every word in fear and contrition. The next day she begged Germanus to visit her, and he explained the saving Christian faith to her. Finally, Eudocia asked the local bishop to baptise her. She freed her servants, gave all her wealth to the poor, and entered a monastery.   "Her former lovers, enraged at her conversion, her refusal to return to her old ways, and the withering away of her beauty through the severe mortifications she practiced, betrayed her as a Christian to Vincent the Governor, and she was beheaded"(Great Horologion). According to some, this was under Trajan (98-117); according to others, under Hadrian (117-138).   The Prologue gives a somewhat different account: that after entering the monastery, Eudocia was permitted to pursue the monastic life in peace — with such devotion that, thirteen months after she entered the monastery, she was chosen as abbess. She lived for fifty-six years in the monastery, and was granted the gift of raising the dead. In her old age, a persecution of Christians arose, and Eudocia was beheaded along with many others. "Here is a wonderful example of how a vessel of uncleanness can be purified, sanctified and filled with a precious, heavenly fragrance by the grace of the Holy Spirit" (Prologue).

Israel carries out air strikes on eastern Lebanon "The Israeli military has conducted air strikes in eastern Lebanon. Reports indicated that Israeli warplanes bombed areas near the town of Jinta, east of Baalbek." 14 million Syrians will return home within 2 years: Ahmed al Sharaa "The leader of Syria's new administration, Ahmed al Sharaa, expressed optimism that 14 million displaced Syrians would return to their country within two years following the fall of the Assad regime. Speaking to Dubai-based documentary filmmaker and YouTube content creator Joe HaTTab in a video that aired Sunday, Al Sharaa emphasised that Syrians who were forced to flee their homeland are already returning. He highlighted that the revolution has been completed with the regime's collapse and it is time to transition from a revolutionary mindset to a state-oriented one. Referring to the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, the army said it has ""cleansed the town of the rebel militia after inflicting heavy losses in personnel and equipment""." Turkish UAVs fly high in African markets "Turkish unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have made inroads into Africa, with solutions developed in Türkiye from UAV technologies undertaking new missions abroad. Turkish drone company Zyrone Dynamics, renowned for its expertise in rotary-wing and variable-volume UAVs, has added a significant milestone to its export achievements. The company recently exported its ZD100 and ZD200 rotary-wing UAVs to an African country, where they will play a critical role in missions such as disaster search and rescue operations and the delivery of cargo to vital locations."

*) Hamas calls Gaza truce proposals with Israel a 'smokescreen' Palestinian resistance group Hamas has called Gaza ceasefire proposals a “smokescreen" as they do not include an end to the Israeli war or withdrawal from the enclave. Senior Hamas member Izzat al-Rishq said ceasefire proposals floated in recent days don't include an end to the Israeli assault, withdrawal from Gaza, or the return of displaced Palestinians to their areas. He added that Hamas is positively engaged with any proposals and ideas that ensure the cessation of aggression and the withdrawal of the occupation forces from Gaza. *) Israel kills 71 in Lebanon as death toll nears 3,000 Meanwhile, in Lebanon, the Health Ministry has said Israeli air strikes killed at least 71 people and wounded 169 others. The new fatalities brought the number of people killed in Israeli attacks in the country since October 2023 to 2,968, while 13,319 others were wounded. This week Israel intensified its strikes in the eastern Lebanese region of Baalbek and displaced thousands more. *) Israel hinders polio vaccination campaign in northern Gaza The emergency polio vaccination campaign in Gaza entered its second phase though areas in northern Gaza, experiencing ongoing Israeli military offensives and a humanitarian crisis, were excluded from the campaign. The initial phase of the campaign began two months ago, however, offensives in the north delayed the rollout, leading to a partial implementation. In a statement, the Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed that northern Gaza could not proceed with the second phase due to the ongoing hostilities, and plans for the next round of vaccinations in the north remain postponed. *) Supporters of Bolivia's ex-leader Morales detain 200 soldiers Supporters of former Bolivian president Evo Morales have taken at least 200 soldiers, hostage. Three military units in Chapare province were assaulted by irregular groups, The hostage situation marks a dramatic escalation in their standoff with the state after Morales blamed the current President for attempting to assassinate him earlier this week. The hostage situation comes nearly three weeks after backers of Morales the country's first Indigenous leader began blocking roads to prevent his arrest on what he calls trumped-up charges aimed at thwarting his political comeback. *) Hundreds of media members accuse BBC of biased Gaza coverage The BBC has been accused by more than 100 of its staffers of providing Israel favourable coverage in its reporting on the war against Gaza, calling on the broadcaster to "recommit to fairness, accuracy, and impartiality." The letter sent to BBC Director General Tim Davie was signed by more than 230 media industry members, including 101 anonymous BBC staff, journalists from other media organisations, historians, actors, academics and politicians. It criticised the news outlet for failing its editorial standards by lacking "consistently fair and accurate evidence-based journalism in its coverage of Gaza."

Despite the Pentagon openly acknowledging that they're out of weapons, that the military is depleted due to supporting Ukraine and Israel, they are sending their last resources to their masters in Israel which will perpetuate a war that will likely escalate into World War 3. Iran has vowed to strike Israel and retaliate for the recent attacks by Israel on Tehran. Iran is of course a close ally of Russia and China. This is snowballing fast. Palestinian hostages are being branded with numbers by the Israeli government and humiliated as the last hospitals are targeted and destroyed with children inside. Tens of thousands of women and children have been killed thus far and it appears to only be the beginning. Baalbek, Lebanon, one of the world's most historic cities is being pummeled by Israel, risking not just innocent lives but also temples and megaliths that are thousands of years old and rewrite history. Rules are being passed in Canada and the United States to potentially imprison those who criticize Israel by blanketly calling people "anti-semitic." We are already seeing this in many countries. These rules also pertain to Zionists shutting down your bank account if you criticize them. It's almost like they're desperate to prove the stereotypes true. Zionist Ben Shapiro says Trump will put globalist Mike Pompeo and David Friedman in charge of Israel policy. Mike Pompeo famously wants to destroy Iran. If people don't see how this is organized chaos to aid in the power shift between the west and the east and to establish emergency orders leading to the Great Reset, there's not much left to say... An edition of Perspective Perspective- speaking with John Christensen, director of the UN Environment Programs Copenhagen Climate Center. The topic is the recent warning from the UN that efforts to reduce climate change must be applied at once, as evidenced by the extreme weather events of the past two years. They say that fossil fuel consumption must be sharply cut back at once or the 1.5 degree Paris agreement will be impossible. The UN is urging countries to implement their plans to reduce carbon at once. And he speaks to the absence of the subject in the US presidential campaign. Then a press reviews from Russia and South Korea about North Korean troops in Russia. From GERMANY- Israel has launched airstrikes in and around the ancient city of Baalbek after warning the entire area to evacuate. Many of the evacuees were Lebanese who had gone there to avoid the bombing of their homes in the south. From CUBA- Lebanon has launched a complaint with the UN Security Council demanding a condemnation of Israeli attacks on their country- over 2400 Lebanese people have been killed so far. Israeli bombings of UN schools in Gaza City resulted in three more journalists being killed, bringing the total to 180 in a little over a year. Central London has seen large demonstrations against right-wing extremism, which created violent race riots this past summer. *) South Africa files 'evidence' of Israel's Gaza 'genocide' with ICJ South Africa has filed "evidence of a genocide" committed by Israel in Gaza with the International Court of Justice. The evidence shows how the government of Israel has violated the genocide convention by promoting the destruction of Palestinians living in Gaza. It supplements facts and arguments in South Africa's ongoing genocide case against Israel. The parties to the case have already argued that Israel's actions such as using starvation as a weapon of war, and depopulating Gaza through mass killings and forced displacement of Palestinians amount to genocide. *) Israel bombs eastern Lebanon, kills 60 people Meanwhile, Israel continues to bomb Lebanon as the death toll from Israeli strikes on Lebanese villages in eastern Lebanon's city of Baalbek has risen to at least 60. Israel has already blocked the only route for the displaced families fleeing from a crossing from Lebanon into Syria. The land crossing on Lebanon's northeastern border, known as Jousieh on the Syrian side, connects to Qusayr in Syria's Homs province. It was put out of service last Friday when the Israeli strike created a large crater that blocked vehicle traffic. *) Massacre of a massacre: Thailand's Tak Bai Muslim victims denied justice A court in southern Thailand dropped a case against former state security personnel and officials over the killing of 85 Muslim protesters in 2004. Families of the victims of what is known as the Tak Bai massacre in April accused seven soldiers and government officials of murder, attempted murder and unlawful detention. The court however said that while there was enough evidence for an indictment, the case was unable to proceed as no suspects were arrested and brought to the court. As a result, the 20-year statute of limitations expired on Friday. *) Israel bans UNRWA in occupied territories Israel's Knesset has passed two bills aimed at ending the operations of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) across the occupied West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem, drawing increasing international concern. The UN expressed "profound concern" over the Israeli parliament's bills. The bill bans the UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees, from conducting “any activity” or providing any service inside Israel. The UN Secretary-General wrote to the Prime Minister of Israel, expressing his profound concern about those bills and their impact. *) US finalises curbs on investing in Chinese tech The Biden administration has said it is finalising rules that will limit US investments in artificial intelligence and other technology sectors in China. The rules will apply to semiconductors and microelectronics, quantum information technologies and certain AI systems and cover technologies like cutting-edge code-breaking computer systems or next-generation fighter jets.

On va faire demi-tour.

pWotD Episode 2706: Hassan Nasrallah Welcome to Popular Wiki of the Day, spotlighting Wikipedia's most visited pages, giving you a peek into what the world is curious about today. With 879,976 views on Saturday, 28 September 2024 our article of the day is Hassan Nasrallah.Hassan Nasrallah (Arabic: حسن نصر الله [ħasan nasˤrɑɫɫɑh]; 31 August 1960 – 27 September 2024) was a Lebanese cleric and the secretary-general of Hezbollah, a Shia Islamist political party and militant group.Born into a Shia family in the suburbs of Beirut in 1960, Nasrallah finished his education in Tyre, when he briefly joined the Amal Movement, and afterward at a Shia seminary in Baalbek. He later studied and taught at an Amal school. Nasrallah joined Hezbollah, which was formed to fight the 1982 Israeli invasion of Lebanon. After a brief period of religious studies in Iran, Nasrallah returned to Lebanon and became Hezbollah's leader after his predecessor, Abbas al-Musawi, was assassinated by an Israeli airstrike in 1992.Under Nasrallah's leadership, Hezbollah acquired rockets with a longer range, which allowed them to strike at northern Israel. After Israel suffered heavy casualties during its 18-year occupation of southern Lebanon, it withdrew its forces in 2000, which greatly increased Hezbollah's popularity in the region, and bolstered Hezbollah's position within Lebanon. Hezbollah cultivated Nasrallah's media image as a charismatic authority, though this image could be weakened, for instance, by his 2013 support for an unpopular Syrian regime and by Arab media supported by the Gulf states. Hezbollah's role in ambushing an Israeli border patrol unit leading up to the 2006 Lebanon War was subject to local and regional criticism, though he projected the end of the war as a Lebanese and Arab victory. During the Syrian civil war, Hezbollah fought on the side of the Syrian army against what Nasrallah termed "Islamist extremists". He has also promoted the "Axis of Resistance", an informal coalition of Iran-backed militias focused on opposing Israel and the United States. Following Hamas's 7 October attack on Israel, he opted to engage in the conflict, initiating attacks on Israel, which resulted in a conflict between Israel and Hezbollah that impacted both sides of the border. On 27 September 2024, the Israel Defense Forces announced that its air force had struck Hezbollah's main headquarters with the goal of assassinating Nasrallah. Hezbollah confirmed his death the following day. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 02:57 UTC on Sunday, 29 September 2024.For the full current version of the article, see Hassan Nasrallah on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm generative Matthew.

The Amish Inquisition Podcast

This week we are joined by alternative, ancient history researcher Phil Corbett. Phil is part of a large team of investigators trying to piece together our ancient past, so we can't wait to tap into his experience. Megalithic architecture, construction techniques, archaeoacoustics, lost technologies and even the enigmatic ‘nubs' could all be on the menu for this one!   Find Phil here: YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@ancientalternativeview9011/featured Twitter: https://twitter.com/ancient_view Institute For Natural Philosophy: https://twitter.com/NaturalPhiInst   From the web... Nubs: The ‘nub' phenomena is a term used to describe the protruding knobs or bumps that are found on many ancient stone blocks and structures around the world. Some researchers have suggested that these nubs were used for various purposes, such as lifting, aligning, or locking the stones together. Others have argued that they are simply the remnants of the stone-cutting process, or that they have no functional significance at all. One of the most intriguing aspects of the nub phenomena is that it appears across different cultures and continents, from Egypt to Peru, from Turkey to Cambodia. This has led some to speculate that there was a common source of knowledge or influence behind these ancient civilizations, or that they were somehow connected by a 'stone language'. The nub phenomena remains a mystery to this day.   Baalbek: According to the web search results, the heaviest carved stone in the world is a manmade block that was found in a limestone quarry in Baalbek, Lebanon. It measures 64 feet by 19.6 feet by 18 feet, and weighs an estimated 1,650 tons. It is believed to date back to around 27 BC, when Baalbek was a Roman outpost called Heliopolis. The block was probably intended for use in a nearby temple for the god Jupiter, but it was never used, likely because it was too big to transport. It is the largest boulder known from antiquity.   Sacsayhuaman: The walls of Sacsayhuaman are very impressive and puzzling. Some people have suggested that the Inca had some advanced knowledge or technology that allowed them to carve and fit the stones so precisely. Others have proposed that the walls were built by an older and more advanced civilization, such as the Atlanteans or aliens. However, most archaeologists and historians believe that the Inca were capable of creating the walls with their own skills and tools.  The exact methods and techniques that the Inca used to carve and transport the stones are still unknown. #althistory #ancientcivilization #alternativehistory ____________________________________________________________________ Follow us here: https://allmylinks.com/the-amish-inquisition Signup for the newsletter, join the community, follow us online, and most importantly share links!  Producer Credits for Ep 319: Rhona Kesson, Ben Limmer, Mathew Chinn, Sam Karno, Aliyah, Emma, Helen and Lee   ____________________________________________________________________ Leave us a voicemail: 07562245894 Message us here....follow, like, subscribe and share.

Geophysicist Bob Schneiker stumbled upon the debate about the age of the Sphinx by chance. He got hooked, and the more he found out, the more convinced he became that Robert Schoch and other maverick researchers are wrong about the dating. “I was surprised to know that Schoch used erosion on the Sphinx as evidence of an older civilization than the dynastic Egyptians”, Bob says. The geology and the surface patterns have been interpreted wrongly, according to Schneiker. The geological history of the area reveals that the Sphinx cannot be older than about 5,500 years, he claims. Schneiker (and others) conclude that the Nile flows during the African humid period 12,000 to 5,500 BCE would have inundated the Sphinx and consequently destroyed its brittle limestone, had it been carved out during that period. (Not all studies conclude that the water table of the Nile actually got that high, however.) Another site Bob has looked into is Göbekli Tepe. He agrees that this construction has upended much of what archaeologists used to believe about our past. But he points out that it cannot be linked to the Younger Dryas and its purported cataclysm, because it is probably much older than that. This also goes for the channeled Scablands in the northwestern USA, another place that some alternative researchers tie to the Younger Dryas. Certain “smoking guns” indicate that something very dramatic happened on the planet during that period, like the ubiquitous “black mat” soil layer and the sudden disappearance of megafauna. One mainstream theory regarding the latter is overhunting by humans. Schneiker concurs with that theory. He is not as impressed as most other independent researchers by advanced megalithic sites like Giza, Baalbek, Ollantaytambo, Sacsayhuaman, Tiwanaku and Easter island. “Most of them are not that old”, he says. Scientists and researchers on all sides have blind spots. Bob is an honest truth seeker, just like the independent researchers he challenges. It's likely that he sees things they haven't acknowledged. Which is interesting, because they often point out that because of the fact that academia stonewalls its research, the only ones who can push the boundaries are the mavericks. “Yes, that happens, but how many mavericks do we not hear about because their ideas are so crazy?” __________ ✅ Resources Bob's website • Alternative researchers that Bob challenges: Randall Carlson's Youtube channel Robert Schoch's website
