Nos llegan las primeras películas de Cannes de este año, y por supuesto iremos paulatinamente reseñándolas para vosotros empezando por la cinta del Rey del Cine: Wes Anderson que nos trae una vuelta a su cine más argumental y menos conceptual con “La Trama Fenicia” en la que Benicio Del Toro se verá en una misión casi imposible mientras se reconcilia con su hija monja. De ahí no nos movemos del cine para la llegada del Live Action de “Lilo y Stitch”, la película de Disney que trae como director a la creativa mente detrás de “Marcel la concha con zapatos” Ya en casa nos ha llegado una nueva entrega a NEtflix de “La calle del terror” en este caso “La reina del baile” un slasher ochentero dispuesto a derramar sangre. Entre medias de todos estos estrenos seguimos con nuestro particular maratón de Cannes en casa con cintas anteriores de directores que han competido este año por la palma de oro. Empezamos por el ganador Jafar Panahi que se ha alzado con la palma de oro con “A Simple Accident” pero que en 2018 ganó el premio del guión por “Tres caras” cinta que rescatamos ahora y que tenéis en Filmin TErminamos con Yann Gozlan, un director francés que este año ha presentado DAlloway pero rescatamos su cinta de 2021 titulada “Black Box” un thriller de altos vuelos Y todo ello sin spoilers

Dat bewijzen de drie jonge makers van Dystopia. Ze maken hun voorstelling naast hun betaalde werk als theaterdocent, toneelschrijver en productieleider. Fleur Mennega, Mathijs Demper en Myrthe Ligtenberg maken volgens eigen zeggen “voorstellingen die een mix vormen tussen ‘soft' sciencefiction-theater en interactief zapcabaret. Ze streven naar razendsnelle dialogen, duistere humor en herkenbare pijnpunten in een dystopische setting.”Cultuurpers bestaat dankzij donaties van lezers en abonnementen. Een week voor de première in Delft als openingsvoorstelling van Delft Fringe 2025 proberen ze voor een klein publiek in Utrecht hun tekst uit. Het werk slaat aan. Na afloop spreken we elkaar. Het gaat dan over de naam, Dystopia. Die is niet heel vrolijk, toch? “Ik heb wel het idee dat we in een flink dystopische wereld leven al.”, zegt Mathijs: “Als je ziet hoeveel surveillance er is. En hoe je werk verandert door alle digitale ontwikkelingen. 1984 was er niks bij.” “De technologie gaat sneller dan het sociale gedrag van mensen kan bijhouden”, vult Fleur aan.De makers raadplegen regelmatig deskundigen en wetenschappers bij hun werk. Dat doen ze om hun werk te verdiepen, maar ook om het begrijpelijk te houden. Fleur legt uit: “We doen ook alles vanuit een humoristisch standpunt om het herkenbaar te maken en een grotere doelgroep aan te spreken.”Die grotere doelgroep is belangrijk voor ze. Ze hebben geen zin in theater dat alleen bestemd is voor theaterliefhebbers met ervaring. Daarom spelen ze ook op Delft Fringe, zegt Fleur: “Ik hoop dat wij de stem van het publiek laten horen. We zijn echt bezig met wat er speelt in de maatschappij en hoe we dat op het podium brengen. Zo blijft theater voor iedereen behapbaar en niet alleen voor een bepaalde eventuele elitegroep die vaak naar het theater gaat.”KloofZe legt uit dat het “heel gevaarlijk is om theater te maken voor andere theatermakers of theatermensen.”: “Ik denk dat je daardoor een onwijs grote kloof gaat krijgen. Ik bedoel, mensen gaan nu al niet meer zo makkelijk naar het theater toe. En ik snap ook wel als iemand dan naar het theater gaat en dan ook nog eens iets ziet waar die zich totaal niet toe kan verhouden, omdat dat een soort theatertaal is die je niet kent, dat die de volgende keer niet gaat terugkomen.” Als het succes voortduurt, willen de makers van Dystopia graag ook eens een echt theater van binnen zien, vertelt Mathijs: “Juist omdat we nu op zoveel verschillende locaties locatie theater hebben gespeeld en echt ook wel bewust de Black Box, de theaterzaal hebben vermeden, zie ik het ook wel als een hele interessante uitdaging om nu na vier jaar ervaring juist die theaterzaal op te zoeken en het alsnog te benaderen als een locatie. Dat we die blackbox openbreken. Finally they get to the long awaited Noblis/FBI study “Black Box 2” latent fingerprint error rate study. This is a re-do of the 2011 black box study for latent fingerprint performance. This study “Accuracy and reproducibility of latent print decisions on comparisons from searches of an automated fingerprint identification system” by Hicklin, Richetelli, Taylor and Buscaglia (For Sci Intl, 370 (2025), 112457), reported the performance of 156 U.S. latent print examiner participants each reviewing about 100 latent prints/comparisons resulting in over 14,000 trials. The study reports numerous statistics of performance such as sensitivity (63%), specificity (70%), false positive error rate (0.2%), and false negative error rate (4.2%). The guys also discuss some important study design differences, plus there are a lot of data in the appendices. Finally they talk about the number of false positives made in the study (n=23) and the fact that 13 of those 23 were made by one participant and how that impacted the results.
