India's children are hungry. Gauri Devidayal, Co-Founder and Director of The Food Matters Group, and Pankaj Jethwani, physician and Executive VP at W Health Ventures, are working to solve that problem. Devidayal is using her platform to draw attention and funding to the cause while Jethwani is helps run holistic nutrition programs. “I think India's one of the greatest nations when it comes to hospitality. It's just something that comes innately to people,” says Devidayal. “That's ridiculous, as a child, to go through eight hours in the morning before a first meal and still expect to learn, still expect to thrive,” Jethwani believes. “We've served 400,000 children. It's a drop in the ocean. It's not even a drop in the ocean - it's a micro-drop in the ocean.”See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Charles Watson, CEO of Tropical Smoothie Café, talks about how the restaurant industry is uniquely positioned to make a difference on child hunger. “The American consumer is demanding and one of the things that they're demanding - which is good - is purpose,” says Watson. “[They'll] give you their money… but [they] also want to see that you're giving back and that you're doing something positive.” He proposed a "CEO Pledge to End Hunger" which aims to raise funds to support summer food programs, potentially preventing millions of children from going hungry. “We need sunshine, we need happiness, we need taking care of one another,” he concludes. Welcome Home! This week, hosts Tiffany Cross, Andrew Gillum, and Angela Rye discuss EBT. “No thanks.” That's what nearly half the Republican governors in the country are saying to a federal program to feed hungry kids. They're turning down FREE money to feed kids– and why?? Question: what would a political ad made just for you look like? What issues would it speak to? This week the hosts break down political ads as we brace to be flooded with them this election season. And how many of you are still rocking with the same crew you've been with? Old friends are great, right. The hosts wonder if the Democratic party feels the same. With so many centrist Republicans feeling alienated by MAGA and Trump, might the Dems try to attract the “politically homeless” Republicans. Stick around to the end of the episode for Politics Are Everywhere, when the hosts discuss rap beef—a part of hip hop since its origin!! After J. Cole and Kendrick exchanged diss tracks, J. Cole said: “no disrespect.” Ohhh…okay. Check out ESPN's The Crossover; Angela is an Executive Producer and the special was nominated for three Sports Emmys!! —--------- We want to hear from you! In this episode I'm joined by Dr Anna Gasperini, where we discuss her work on children's literature and child nutrition. We discuss how food in children's literature sublimates and represents a lot of things, including 'taboo' subjects. Children's literature was previously seen as unsophisticated in the academy (like fantasy), which segues into a brief chat about Terry Pratchett's Discworld! We then continue to consider how food was linked to the acceptable and unacceptable body and how that notion is constructed in society, reinforced or challenged in children's literature. The greedy child and the mal/nourished child, and how these both are seen as unacceptable within 19th century.Trigger warning for some dark children's literature.About my guest: Dr Anna Gasperini is a Postdoctoral Researcher at Ca' Foscari University of Venice, Italy. She has just completed a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions research project on English and Italian nineteenth-century children's literature and the history of child nutrition. Interior designer and philanthropist Charlotte Moss and Ford Foundation President Darren Walker discuss the importance of ending child hunger. Moss selected No Kid Hungry to be the beneficiary of her latest project, Home: A Celebration . Home is an ode to Edith Wharton's The Book of the Homeless, which was a 1916 fundraiser to help refugees and children during WWI. Home features 120 artists, poets, chefs, designers, photographers, and writers offering personal reflections on the essence of home. Contributors include Drew Barrymore, Candice Bergen, Tory Burch, Seth Godin, Renee and John Grisham, Bianca Jagger, Annie Leibovitz, Jon Meacham, Bette Midler, Joyce Carol Oates, Al Roker, Gloria Steinem, Darren Walker, and Fanny and Alice Waters. “This is really philanthropy at its best, when people come together to for single cause and give of themselves - in essence sharing their strength - is what you're all about and what this book is all about,” says Moss. Walker was compelled to write the book's foreword. “It was a moment when we were all experiencing deep anguish in this country over the impacts of COVID which we immediately recognized as compounding the already deep inequality we have in this country… Charlotte used her privilege to raise awareness and consciousness of the conditions of poverty, particularly child poverty, which is the most difficult and pernicious poverty that we have in this country… Charlotte reminded us that there are far too many Americans who live without the dignity of shelter, of food, of nutrition, and particularly the most vulnerable among us, our children,” he says. All royalties from book sales support No Kid Hungry's essential mission to help end childhood hunger. Child hunger has always been a problem. Although schools provide food for all kids on weekdays, it doesn't solve the problem of children going hungry over the weekend if their families cannot afford enough food during weekends. As a result, students feel sluggish and moody when Monday comes. Some students even sneak some food into their pockets to take home so they don't go hungry over the weekend. Clearly, child hunger is a huge problem that requires immediate solutions. Luckily, two young gentlemen came up with an idea that's changed both their and the hungry children's lives. In the new episode of RevOps Champions, Brendon Dennewill welcomes Rob Williams, the President and Founder of Every Meal, a non-profit organization that helps fight child hunger. They dive into the exciting beginnings of Every Meal, its most distinguished programs, challenges, and why cultural and situational food relevancy matters when providing meals to specific groups of people.
Reverend Jim Wallis, Chair in Faith and Justice at Georgetown University's McCourt School of Public Policy and Founder of Sojourners, reports on how dozens of faith organizations continue to advocate together for making the Child Tax Credit permanent, among other provisions in the proposed Build Back Better legislation. “We came together across many of our theological and political boundaries in the faith community to support the Child Tax Credit and the other critical factors in this human infrastructure bill.” Wallis and his fellow faith leaders are fighting for the most vulnerable Americans. “Unfortunately, it continues to be true that when the government wants to tighten its belt, it tightens the belt around the necks of the poor. And when they want to be fiscally responsible, they do it on the backs of the lowest income families and children. And that's just not wrong. That's sinful… The Bible says that kings and rulers - those who rule - will be defined and will be judged by how they treat the poor and vulnerable.”See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

The problem is this; there is too much red tape in policies to end child hunger. The solution is simple. Feed the children!"

It won't take long for you to see how compassionate of a woman Giannina is. Giannina is a wife, mother, school teacher, a lover of all animals and is on a quest to end Child Hunger. Giannina speaks about the stark contrast in culture when coming from Peru and how different things were for her when she started attending school in the US. She also speaks about why she chose to teach as a profession. Growing up in Lima Peru, Giannina remembers what it was like to see children selling candy on the side of the roads. It was that image, that remains with her today that has her on the quest to leave no child hungry. Giannina, along with her amazing husband Chris, (@chriscookscrazy) have done fundraisers to help bring awareness to such a great cause. Here is a message from Giannina: As your Mrs. Ocean County International 2021, I would like to continue my efforts in bringing awareness and influencing change on the issue of “Hunger in America”. This is a cause I hold dear to my heart as I have witnessed the negative effects hunger has on children and students. No Kid Hungry focuses on providing funds to various school district’s nutrition programs throughout the U.S. Despite our students not being in school due to the Covid Pandemic, these programs are on the ground providing children with much needed daily food and meals. Please consider supporting this cause and help me in my efforts of “Ending Hunger”. Thank you for your support! No Kid Hungry Link

We examine how the pandemic is making food insecurity worse in the nation's most insecure state.Plus, the Salvation Army's red kettles return. But the charitable non-profit is looking for other ways to collect contributions during the holiday season.Segment 1:Mississippi's leading health experts are asking for residents to avoid large thanksgiving gatherings as coronavirus transmission rates surge in the state. State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs says the pandemic is only intensifying. Timothy Moore of the Mississippi Hospital Association and Tonya Moore of the Mississippi Nurses Association also warn of strain on the system.Segment 2: The coronavirus pandemic is causing a rise in child hunger across the nation, and some of the most food insecure communities in the nation are located in Mississippi. According to the nonprofit Save the Children, one in three children in Mississippi is experiencing hunger - up from one in four prior to the pandemic. The organization also projects Mississippi to have the highest rate of food insecurity for 2020. Yolanda Minor, Deputy State Director of Save the Children, tells our Ashley Norwood, hunger can lead to other developmental challenges for children.Segment 3:The red kettles and ringing bells of the Salvation Army are returning this holiday season. A tradition since 1891, the organization's Red Kettle fundraising campaign represents a bulk of its funding for a number of year-round programs. But the pandemic is causing a reduction in kettle locations this year. Michelle Hartfield is Director of Community Relations for the Jackson Salvation Army. She says although the hallmark red kettle is socially distant and safe, the organization is hoping to generate more contributions online. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

More than 200 chefs from across the country were joined by Grammy Award-winning international rock star P!nk in a fundraising bike ride that raised $2 million for the No Kid Hungry campaign from Share Our Strength. In an exclusive interview for Add Passion and Stir, the podcast from Share Our Strength hosted by brother and sister co-founders Billy and Debbie Shore, singer-songwriter P!nk, says, “What’s awesome about Share Our Strength and No Kid Hungry is that [they] really make it doable to help… [They] make it really fun. [They] make where people’s dollars go make sense. It’s really easy to understand, and it’s universal – it’s kids!” This special edition of Add Passion and Stir was taped at Chefs Cycle, a 300-mile fundraising bike ride in Santa Rosa, CA. Alecia Moore Hart – better known as P!nk – sat down with fellow riders husband Carey Hart, chef Mary Sue Milliken (Border Grill), chef Kevin Nashan (Sidney Street Café, St. Louis) and Share Our Strength founders Billy and Debbie Shore to discuss the importance of getting involved on issues that matter. Despite a grueling few days in the saddle, all the riders were inspired by the event and their collective power to make a difference for hungry kids. They are grateful for organizations that help them do this. “Everybody wants to help,” says P!nk, “but the problem is sometimes that nobody knows what to do.” James Beard award winners Milliken and Nashan have been involved with No Kid Hungry for many years, and the mission and camaraderie keeps them engaged. “When I was poor and just starting out and I had no way of really helping, I was introduced to Share Our Strength,” says Milliken. “I realized: I can do what I do! I can cook! It was so powerful. I thought, this is what I want to dedicate my time to.” Carey Hart, a retired motocross racer, now shares his time and talent with Good Ride Rally, a motorcycle rally that benefits veterans. Each guest also speaks about their memories of taking civic action with their parents when they were young and how this instilled important values of giving back and taking care of those less fortunate. They stress the importance of involving kids in helping other kids. “Every parent wants their kid to be a global citizen. Every parent wants their kid to be aware of what’s going on in the world. Every kid wants to help another kid – it’s innate, it’s who they are,” says P!nk. Share Our Strength founder Debbie Shore shares the next big idea for Chefs Cycle: a cross-country relay bike ride involving thousands of chefs and raising tens of millions of dollars for fighting child hunger. Add Passion and Stir host and Share Our Strength founder and CEO Billy Shore – who also rode all 300 miles through the hills of Santa Rosa – gives insight into how he advises his staff. “Our biggest challenge is failure of imagination. Incremental steps are not enough – to really solve the problems we need to solve, we need to think big and take big risks.” What do YOU think? How can we think big about solving child hunger in America? Can we rally thousands of chefs to bike across the country and ride on Washington, DC? How can we better engage kids in helping other kids who are struggling with hunger? We would love to hear your thoughts. Hey everybody! I'm Jennifer Vickery… so glad you’ve joined us for another Inside Music Row. We've got a great show for you today, so let’s get started. Well, four decades of history making moments are certainly worth celebrating! That’s why the Grand Ole Opry pulled out all the stops to celebrate forty years at the Opry House. Lots of artists were on hand for the special evening, including Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, Bill Anderson, Josh Turner, and many more. This celebration leads into next year’s ninety-year anniversary of the Opry, which started as the W-S-M Barn Dance in a small studio in downtown Nashville. From a guy who knows a lot about living life…John Rich has launched a new lifestyle brand called Redneck Riviera. After spending years in research and development, John believes it’s not just a place, but more a state of mind to enjoy the laid-back, carefree beach lifestyle. You’ll find the new merchandise available in outlets everywhere this spring, as well as online at Redneck Riviera dot com. The final sessions from Country Music Hall of Fame Icon Ray Price will hit shelves April 15th. “Beauty Is…” features Ray’s timeless sounds, along with duets with Vince Gill and Martina McBride. Ray passed away last December. The St. Jude Country Music Marathon is set to take over downtown Nashville for the 15th annual road race. The April 26th run will feature a new start line and course, but will retain its traditional musical theme. More than 30-thousand runners are expected for this year’s event, all helping to raise about two-million dollars for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Look for Chip Esten and Clare Bowen from ABC’s hit show “Nashville” to headline the post-race concert, with rising star Chase Rice set to open. Hunter Hayes has an ambitious plan to help end Child Hunger. He’s planning on breaking a Guiness world record and promoting awareness of child hunger by playing ten shows in ten cities in less than twenty-four hours. This unique ‘tour’ kicks off May ninth with a performance on Good Morning America and wraps in Philadelphia at five A-M the next morning. Hunter is currently out on his “We’re Not Invisible” tour, and getting ready to release his new “Storyline” album May sixth. Now it's time to go “Inside The Song.” Rock group Black Stone Cherry co-wrote a song for their 20-11 album “Between The Devil and The Deep Blue Sea” called “Stay.” Some of their other writing buddies got hold of that and wanted it for their debut project, and it didn’t take long for Florida Georgia Line to take their version of “Stay” to number one. We caught up with Black Stone Cherry to hear how that all came together.
