Gio said when CBS Sports Network wants us to talk about something, they run video of it during the breaks so we can see it. Today it's the sports Emmys, as CBS won a bunch of them. James Brown won an award as did Tracy Wolfson. We talked more about the wine bottle that Matt Martin gave Boomer. The bottle is a tribute to the Stanley Cup. C-Lo returns for an update, but first we talked about clams. We heard from Suzyn Waldman talking about the Mariners trident and she wondered if it was ‘bigger than the sausage'. C-Lo has a preview of Rangers/Panthers which gets underway tonight. Chris Russo is having a hard time with a hockey player's name. The Celtics took game 1 from the Pacers. In the final segment of the hour, competitive eater Kobayashi is retiring because of health concerns. We also talked about the Henry Winkler commercial we run here, about his father in laws' eyes.

Welcome Home! This week, hosts Tiffany Cross, Andrew Gillum, and Angela Rye discuss EBT. “No thanks.” That's what nearly half the Republican governors in the country are saying to a federal program to feed hungry kids. They're turning down FREE money to feed kids– and why?? Question: what would a political ad made just for you look like? What issues would it speak to? This week the hosts break down political ads as we brace to be flooded with them this election season. And how many of you are still rocking with the same crew you've been with? Old friends are great, right. The hosts wonder if the Democratic party feels the same. With so many centrist Republicans feeling alienated by MAGA and Trump, might the Dems try to attract the “politically homeless” Republicans. Stick around to the end of the episode for Politics Are Everywhere, when the hosts discuss rap beef—a part of hip hop since its origin!! After J. Cole and Kendrick exchanged diss tracks, J. Cole said: “no disrespect.” Ohhh…okay. Check out ESPN's The Crossover; Angela is an Executive Producer and the special was nominated for three Sports Emmys!! —--------- We want to hear from you! SERIES 2 EPISODE 106: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: The obvious headline from Iowa last night: Trump romped, around 50%, with the reminder that if it were Biden only getting 50% in the first primary the Democrats would be considered dead in the water. The real headline from Iowa: Trump mused, in that skillfully ambitious way of his, about being in charge for "four years and beyond" and he can deny he meant refusing to leave office in 2029 but of course all he's TALKED about since 2017 was how he deserved more than two terms or more than eight years or more than the constitution allows. And the NEXT headline out of Iowa is the missing ingredient in the implausibly tight race between a psychotic dictator with dementia and a gifted dedicated president: the report that internal Biden research and polling says three out of four undecided voters really DON'T believe Trump will be the nominee and will have an "oh shit" moment. Plus: Marjorie Barney Rubble Greene thinks President Biden can communicate with the dead by phone. B-Block (26:08) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: Rep. Barry "Your Tour Guide" Loudermilk makes a huge mistake. He wants to investigate Cassidy Hutchinson. And the Baltimore Sun is sold to a fascist and a one-time columnist who took a quarter of million in bribes from the Bush Administration. (30:50) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: When the NFL playoff game in Buffalo was postponed by snow, the Outkick The Coverage idiot whined that they didn't postpone D-Day because of bad weather - except of course they did. Plus Billo is back in the list. And Laura Loomer underscores the fundamental stupidity of the right. They don't believe in man-made climate change but they DO believe that Biden has a machine to manipulate the weather. C-Block (37:05) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: A silly story about ESPN fudging nomination lists for the Emmy Awards (Erin Andrews became "Erik Andrews," etc., to allow ineligible talent to get trophies) ignores the real problem: the hosts of Emmy winning shows were ineligible to GET Emmys because the producers who ran the Emmys thought the talent had enough good stuff as it was. It flashed me back to a memorable conversation with Gil Stratton, an actor and sportscaster who insisted that every producer and executive he ever met was a bigger prima donna than an old colleague of his named Judy Garland.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

When Michigan star Desmond Howard struck the Heisman pose against Ohio State in 1991, he cemented his legacy as a college football great and etched his name in football history books. Fresh off of his alma mater's big National Championship win this week, the former Heisman winner and MIchigan great Desmond Howard, sits with Ryan, Channing and Fred to chat about his life on and off the field from growing up in impoverished parts of Cleveland to his NFL legacy as a Super Bowl MVP for Green Bay to his proudest accomplishment, being a good husband and father. Witnessing the change of football over the years, especially at college level, Desomd talks what it means for the game with legends of Nick Saban and Bill Bilichick stepping away from coaching and how NIL has lessened the competition mindset and added to entitlement for young athletes. Today, Desmond is known as one of the most pleasant people in sports media and has become a staple on ESPN's College Gameday broadcasts. However, in a recent scandal with the Sports Emmys, Desmond and his fellow co-hosts of College GameDay had their statues taken back from them when a scandal was uncovered by the television academy of listing fake names for talent to win in categories. Desmond opens up for the first time as the news is breaking and shares the one thing that really pushed him to the edge in the entire situation, Lee Corso losing his too. With divorced parents and an atmosphere filled with gangs, drugs and violence, Desmond's adversity in high school and college only helped motivate him to outwork his situation. Yet as he was told in an impromptu meeting with famous Dr. Harry Edwards, there is a struggle that must be. A man whose biggest moments transcended college football forever is etched into the minds of fans both new and old. By approaching football and life with gratitude, he has no regrets, and the smile people see on TV is the same one Desmond Howard has away from it. January 11, 2021 - In 2017, Sports Illustrated named Mike "Doc" Emrick the greatest sportscaster of all time. But how did a kid from a tiny town in the American Midwest, grow up to be a voice synonymous with Canada's game, the first media member inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame, and the winner of eight Sports Emmys? How did Doc sound just as excited about the 10,000th goal he saw, as he did when he was a boy in the 1950s, watching the Fort Wayne Komets put the biscuit in the net for the very first time? We get those insights in his memoir, Off Mike: How a Kid from Basketball-Crazy Indiana Became America's NHL Voice. In a career that spanned 47 years, Doc had stops everywhere from ESPN and CBS, to Fox, SportsChannel, MSG, NBC, and beyond. He survived prostate cancer along the way, and spent 5,000 nights away from his beloved wife, Joyce. They've certainly earned their retirement. The Emrick's are also lovers of all creatures great and small. In fact, Doc is donating proceeds from sales of Off Mike to animal charities. The History Author Show will be dropping the gloves to fight for animals in need alongside Doc and Joyce. Amazon gives us a portion of every book you purchase through their links on this page. We'll be matching triple that amount times three and donating to pets in need. So if you're thinking of picking up a copy of this inspiring, entertaining memoir, please consider doing it through us.

The Seahawks lose for the third time at home this season, this time losing 23-17 to the St. Louis Rams. Leading from start to finish, they snap Russell Wilson and the Seahawks' streak of having a lead at some point during the game. Adam and Brandan talk about how it seemed like St. Louis was going to win when they managed to fumble their way down the field on their way to 23 points. Seattle had a chance at coming back up until Wilson lost the ball on the 10-yard line with less than five minutes to play. Looking ahead, the guys take a look at the Seahawks potential playoff matchups and who they'd like to see the team play among the Packers, Vikings and Skins. Based on the outcome of the Seahawks and Cardinals, the Sunday night game could determine which team will play the Seahawks in the first round. This week's game against the Cardinals will be Seattle's first chance to get into playoff mode, playing on the road against a team that has a shot to lock up the top seed and home field advantage throughout the playoffs. A new generation of touch devices have proven to be exciting playgrounds for app designers. And with every new product we create, we have the opportunity to offer the most clear and efficient experience for our users. Recent UI trends often lean to realistic, faithful representations of analog controls and features. These designs can offer advantages, but also come with their own set of hazards. In this session Aaron will lead you on a tour of current trends and practices, examining the strengths and drawbacks that realism brings. We’ll talk about things like mental models, innovation and usability as they relate to lifelike UI. Finally, Aaron will share some pragmatic guidelines to keep in mind as you build the next wave of mobile and touch apps. A mixed breed designer/developer, Aaron’s career is built upon a unique blend of creative and technical sensibilities. He began twelve years ago leading interactive initiatives for Colorado’s top design agencies, delivering successful projects for a range of clients including HP, Spyder Active Sports and the National Center for Atmospheric Research. In 2004 he joined ESPN New Media where he provided instrumental leadership in an Art Director role. At ESPN he guided best practices, developed core UI components and designed pioneering real time game and scoring applications. Aaron currently serves as Creative Director for Fanzter, a lean and profitable New England based startup. His work has appeared on Smashing Magazine, Six Revisions, Ajax Rain and was awarded at the 27th annual Sports Emmys. Aaron’s academic background spans three fields of study at three different universities, settling into a B.S. in Scientific and Technical Communication from Michigan Tech. His offline hobbies involve learning about social psychology and human behavior, photography, and a quest to find the perfect iPod earphones.
