Episode 17 – The Real Anniversary Episode Show Notes  Welcome to Episode 17! First year of Solo Queue in the books and stumbling into some creative WoW-adjacent media got me thinking about all the value added to WoW by content creators outside of Blizzard.             Four Tanks and a Healer:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A47d3fjDNSQ             Stormwind University:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sgpgEy-UW8             Karazhan Library:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkDNwkGDS84         “What have you done lately?” – 16:52 Trivia is now 42 characters every day – the end is in sight, January 7 For max leveling efficiency, that meant getting 5 characters to 80 I made my 2 Earthen characters Monthly inventory for first time in 3 months Sporadically getting weekly meta quests done to keep gearing the 5 level 80s   Addon Recommendation:  Altoholic – 25:39 Tracks gold, levels, achievements, time played, and many more bits of individual character info account-wide, server by server, faction by faction.    …and Siren Isle – 27:03 Yes, it feels a lot like 10.0.7, but it is kind of different Gameplay is…fine; better than the alternative of nothing until 11.1 Story is hard to take in, maybe just for me?   News – 46:34 Still 2 story questlines to come in 11.0.7, Dalaran epilogue and Lingering Shadows Turbulent Timeways coming January 7 – 5 weeks of timewalking New game modes coming to the Character select screen? Might it be… Plunderstorm returns January 14 with less demanding reward system, new rewards, same battlefield And two holidays are wrapping up next week, Anniversary event January 7 and Winter Veil January 5!   Winter Veil in your Garrison! – 56:36 The second-best place to celebrate Winter Veil is in your WoD Garrison, which naturally gets decorations and there are WV dailies to add more decorations.  If you haven't done it, why not now?  I did, during the recording.   And, I've been thinking about WoD lately, which had its 10th anniversary in November.  2025 is my 10th anniversary in WoW.  Throughout the coming year, I am going to go through some of the highlights of this much-maligned expansion to show what is still enjoyable, including featuring the 3 WoD raids in Raid of the Month throughout the year.   Raid of the Month:  Antorus (Legion) – 1:12:02 Speaking of RotM, we visit the final raid of Legion, Antorus, the Burning Throne and see where that giant sword came from.  Is it worth it?  Lots of running around, Eonar a slow encounter, but if you want the 2 mounts and various transmog, then yes, get in there, at least a few times.  Did I get any mounts?  Listen to find out – no spoilers!   Also a plug for the website simplearmory.com – check it out to see all of your collectable items, along with a planner to go hunt them all down!   Drink of the Month – 1:30:20            All that raiding has me thirsty for Dwarven Mead and Greatfather's Winter Ale at the Stonefire Tavern in Ironforge, in sight of Greatfather Winter himself!   Main Topic:  Yep, more Winter Veil, including *SPOILERS* presents opened! – 1:31:50 We head across the molten channel in Ironforge to check out Winter Veil activities, including a ride out to kill the Greench, unwrapping the 2024 presents live, and sharing my Winter Veil wish list, now for 2025.   Plans for 2025 and gratitude for the influences that led me to SQ – 1:41:18 SQ plans for the coming year, a Season 2, if you will.  Biggest is the goal of two episodes each month, a traditional (and shorter) episode, and a second episode of various formats, including interviews, single topic deep dives, or overflow topics for the month.   I want to close this episode with gratitude for my sources of inspiration for Solo Queue including traditional radio, some Blizzard podcasts no longer with us, and many that are.  Thank you, fellow podcasters!  Honored to be among your ranks.   Solo Queue Mailbox – 2:04:16 The second and third reviews on Apple Podcasts from Mr Rascolwitz and Cyn (psmst1). #grateful   Truly, thanks for a great first year of Solo Queue!  I hope you keep listening and sharing it with friends.   Outro – 2:08:47 Thanks to Blizzard and OGRE for audio, my lovely wife, and you for listening. Fixed the Normal/Heroic HP pool boss switch Raiding fixes take boss HP levels BELOW previous levels Fixed the bug that made pet names disappear Boulder quest in Redridge has been fixed Patch 7.3.5 - Leveling Transitions between expansions No big gear reset until level 61, when item levels jumped from 60 to 80 Professions do transfer but not smoothly When you buy your skill for mining/herbs from 300, it now goes to 450 instead of 375 (both expansions) Experience with mining: could gather and learn to smelt both Fel Iron (Outland) and Cobalt Ore (Northrend). Started with 252 mining; could only gather Cobalt Ore Nuggets By level 325, still only collecting nuggets. Went to Outland and confirmed I could collect whole Fel Iron Ore. However, Fel Iron was gray (getting no skill). Cobalt Ore still orange (getting skill) Last level to get Cobalt Nuggets: 340. Started getting whole cobalt at 341. Cobalt Ore gathers still orange and still getting orange skill from smelting. Turned Yellow at 350. Turned Green at 362. Can get 80+ mining skill points off smelting alone (started slowing down at 355) - market has not caught up on all servers, but on Silvermoon ore is selling for 5x more than bars. Filius reported re: manufacturing professions, also skipping to Northrend: There are recipes to make things at your level, but the results may not be usable. Was making potions that he could create in low 60s that were only usable by mid-70s. Idea: how to find what’s good to sell? Finished to 60 in Winterspring to level up mining Went straight to Northrend (Howling Fjord), skipped Outland entirely Mike: Working on rep and mounts. Still working on that Nerf Scrapbots achievement. Is it bugged? This Week in WoW Burning Crusade Timewalking Call of the Scarab ended Tuesday Arena Skirmishes start Tuesday Kirin Tor Tavern Crawl mini event Wednesday News Battle of Azeroth Collectors’ Edition perks datamined - https://www.wowhead.com/news=281070/battle-for-azeroth-collectors-edition-rewards-seabraid-stallion-gilded-ravasaur-?webhook/battle-for-azeroth-collectors-edition-rewards-seabraid-stallion-gilded-raptor-to - Seabraid Stallion (Alliance), Gilded Ravasaur (Horde) and Tottle (turtle pet) Shu-zen, the Divine Sentinel flying dog mount datamined - probably part of Lunar Festival (Year of the Dog) starting Feb 16 Transmog bug - people reporting not being able to transmog while wearing some items from [Satchel of Helpful Goods] Changes to Recruit a Friend: Experience gains reduced from 200 to 50%. Heirloom XP bonus no longer stacks with RAF XP bonuses Patch 7.3.5 hotfixes this week Lost Mail - now properly spawns at random Dalaran locations and Postmaster title is now account-wide. Naked & Afraid 2018 Cattarina is new winner of the Shaman Challenge with 2 days 1 hour Up to 41 participants, 28 of whom are now 20 or over All classes represented, with most popular being druids (9) and monks (7); least represented, shaman (1) and priest (2) 8 participants currently have more than 1000 gold. Two have 3000 or more, and one has nearly 15,000 Minor rule clarifications: Auction mules may not do anything but buy and sell -- no primary or secondary skill use (cooking, disenchanting, smelting). Some confusion over mounts and which you can use Some confusion over use of inherent class abilities such as hunter pet respeccing and use of monk daily Filius is also live streaming Lessons Learned: Lessons in the leveling experience from our Discord family Restrictions: not as bad as Ironman Challenge

Podcast Audio Raw Video http://youtu.be/JSonAKjDOZk Open Welcome to episode #274 of the the podcast celebrating the Alea Iacta Est gaming community, the die has been podcast. This is Tetsemi: To my left is Mkallah: - (Hey, guys, there is carrot cake in the guild kitchen). And to my right is Mewkow (Greetings, Gamers) This week we are joined by special guests Arv and Apolas who is here to talk to us about AIE in SWTOR Welcome! Mewkow - Finished Andromeda. Enjoyed the story. Waiting for the DLC. Now diving back into WoW more full time to catch up on 7.2 content. Not too far from getting revered rep for the final piece of pathfinder 2 flying. Will now be able to dig into the new SWTOR content since the wow rep grind is a dailies thing. Tetsemi - FERT Killed Gul'dan on Normal making this the second raid content, this expansion, we've killed before it has been nerfed or the new raid content has launched. Tetsemi has unlocked flying and is halfway to exalted with the Armies of Legionfall. I've completed the Class story line on my Mage and Death Knight as well, and working through the Paladin storyline, which is really good so far, as we've invaded a demon homeworld providing a daring rescue of our forces and inducted the first Night Elf Priest into the Paladinhood. Hopefully Tyrande didn't notice we recruited one of her priests. Got through the initial storyline on Iokath with my Pub Trooper and Imp Sorc, each ultimately deciding to stick with their original faction, although the decision for my Trooper was more difficult than I had thought. When I get to the Bounty Hunter, Smuggler, and Agent it'll be interesting to see which direction I got. I'm planning on having at least one or two characters go cross-faction just to see how it plays out and fits into their storyline. Ok, we'll be digging into the Galaxy far, far away shortly, but first, let's cover this week's news... AIE News Community Don't forget to check the guild calendar out and see what's going on in all the games that AIE is involved in! Want to lead an activity or have an event or raid team that needs to be on the calendar, just drop a note to the officers in #lfo in AIE Discord or e-mail the officers at aie-guild.org and we can make sure your event is added. https://wiki.aie-guild.org/index.php?title=Guild_Calendar Imperium Ludi Galadeon is keeping us up date with the progress on Ashes of Creation. A new video has been published describing the Nodes in more detail and, I quote Galadeon, “The housing stuff planned is insane” http://forum.myextralife.com/topic/57396-ashes-of-creation/#entry955435 WoW Shout out to the guildies for helping Wobbley sort out the last piece of the achievement he needed for the Suramar quest line. Love to see guildies jumping in and helping folks with questions in the forums. http://forum.myextralife.com/topic/57417-perhaps-im-a-bit-lost-but/ How are you finding patch 7.2? Have you gotten PathFinder part 1 & 2 done and taking to the skies? Are you having flashbacks with the treasure goblin to the Isle of Thunder and the chest room? This week, if you grab the quest from your journal or the Archmage Timear in Dalaran you can get 5k order resources for completing 20 WQ's. Between the emissary quests and the Broken Shore dailies it's fairly easy to hit the 20 WQ's in a few hours. Also you get 50% more reputation gain from each WQ, so if you're trying to gain reputation, go grind! EVE Eve Online has a great news writeup about current game information and new things coming down in the future. Looking for new blue prints? Think you're all that and a bag of chips? Contest Email/WoW Minis and Episode 100 Lunar Festival until Feb 12th What We've Been Doing: Aprillian Cabana Chat - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opM49V9Fa6Q I feel like I blossomed in Nagrand Mithril spurs helps Auruk keep up with the DK's, had the twins and Auruk in Nagrand doing a lot of quests.  They got some good upgrades and both dinged 66 The servers were down on Friday morning but came back up a little after one.  I was doing a disk repair on an external drive on the iMac so I was only on one computer.  I felt bad leaving Auruk out, but I took the twins to do [Wanted: Zorbo the Advisor].  Of course the XP is better without Auruk.  Ending up sticking around the Warmaul area grinding for powder and beads.  The level 65 and 66 mobs were easy.  I was mostly took on one each.  Also found several mining nodes including Khorium.  Finally got the iMac back up and brought in Auruk and she kept getting Warmaul skulls. I brought in Aprillian to do Tusker and when they were done, they got the achievement White Elek Nesingwary completion.  Aprillian continued on to do Dailies, while the twins and Auruk rode down into Terrakor to quest down there. Realized I need a high level DE, I have a Veyle, my level 40 Rogue who can DE up to 300, she can do Outland greens right now, so that's cool.  But I have Primall who is level 55 but is only 107.  Do I try to power level Veyle to Then I realized Aprillian was at 400 Tailoring, only 10 away from, so I spent money Friday night buying Frostweave Cloth Saturday I wanted to do the Lunar Festival but got hung up levelling Primall in enchanting.  She had a bunch of BOE stuff that she had gotten from Instances but wasn't high enough to DE.  But finally after getting Enchanting to 130, she and Veyle went to Valley of Wisdom and starting the Lunar Festival.   While in Moonglade Veyle ran up to Nighthaven to get the Runed Arcanite Rod recipe Locksmith? when asking for directions to Tailor.  Veyle is donating mageweave and silk cloth to up her xp. Guy begging in TB. Wanted 5g, I said I would give it to him in exchange for some leather. Elder Ezra replaced Elder Proudhorn Back in TB with Veyle and Primall.  Hopping around getting coins and in between stopping to level enchanting, and LW on Primall, the LW to get greens to DE.  Aprillian in Blade's Edge doing the Mana cell one and netherstorm doing the fury plans and Shutting Down Manaforge B'naar ended up teaming up with a Warlock 72 from Demise with Felhunter Sunday morning I took Epril, JC and Miner Level 66 to train, she hit 350 making an Adamanite ring, and she was able to train 59 recipes plus Grand master JC, 100g! Then she found the Lunar Festival Exclamation mark in Dalaran.  I logged on Elyte and the two of them did the initial quest.  Then I see people doing the  [Frenzied Firecracker]  and the  [The Rocket's Red Glare] achievements hard to do in laggy areas Then took Primall and Veyle to TB  to start coin collecting out that way but stopped in for the Un goro soil quest because Primall had  it and there was some soil in the bank.  Primall dinged 56.  Then they headed to Camp T Decided to take Primall and Veyle to RFD, yes I have ADD.  We got into the instance and a couple of greens dropped but decided to go back to do some more coins.  Veyle ported to Dalaran and summoned Primall, she still had Scryer for hearth. Then went to the Lunar festival in Dalaran, but they no longer had scrolls in their inventory.  They were able to get more from the Lunar chick After doing some research, I realized Primall could Ashayo Chef Ashayo at last! 3.0.8 added more cooking recipes so that the 45 version of The Northrend Gourmet was achievable. Either I miscounted, or they changed the total recipes available down from 46 because I was sure I could leave one out. The Fish Feast required 450 cooking to use, so I left it out. But it turned out I needed it. Which meant levelling cooking from 420 to 450, and since there wasn't any fish in the AH, I had to fish up about 50 of two kinds of fish and 50 rhino meat. I chose the Small Feast, since the fish it requires are both available in schools, so are easier to ensure you catch. Finally got enough mats and cooked up to 450... only to find the Fish Feast recipe required 5 Dalaran Cooking awards instead of the normal 3, and I only had 3 left. Waited for daily change-over, and it was the damn wine/cheese quest that only gives one cooking award. So I had to wait another 24 hours. In the meantime, made damn sure I had enough fish to actually make a Fish Feast once I learnt it. I was out when the dailies reset, and so finally and 2am this morning, I completed the cooking quest and got the Chef title. Phew! Worked on getting my enchanter up to 350 so he could DE level 78 gear. Wasn't too hard ; I'd stockpiled quite a few mats and the vellum's help alot. 2nd egg from Oracles hatched on my holidays - unfortunately both were aged yolk. Waiting for 3rd to hatch. 3.0.8 changes - Mining - don't have to loot to get skill up. - Rain of Fire animation (looks a bit like DK death and decay now) - Improved /follow while flying? (but toons look jerky) - Fire Seed now just millable (apparently increasing spell damage never worked anyway) - Pest Control - To all the squirrels who shared my life - Pygmy suckerfish more common (used by alchemists) - Preserved Holly - changed graphic and gives 1hr buff - but doesn't work with Dreadsteed! - Oracles - Appeasing the Great Rain Stone ; Shiny Treasures drop more often Tailor is making ebonweave and spellweave - nice that imbued frostweave requirements are down (glad I left that until after 3.0.8) Nagrand with DK - soloing level 68 group quests at 66. Camp Forge Fear chain. Did Durn the Hungerer with 1 DK and a healer. Started Lunar Festival - do for rep! Ashayo got 25 coins of ancestry and 10 Exalted Reputations (Undercity) at same time The ancestry coin for Gundrak is only available in Heroic mode. After I was in a group that completed it, summoned a bunch of other guildies to complete in easy mode. Glanthur Did a raid in Naxx (10-man) and got through a lot of the dailies in Icecrown.  I also respeced Arlaerus from Holy back to Protection.  I just really missed my shield spells.  Though, I need to get new gear now for him.  Epic flying for Arlaerus is now only 3K gold away.  I'd like to thank the guild Lost Chapter on Wyrmrest Accord for being an outstanding guild!  Thanks for all the fun times. Emails Email #1 from Tracey I just wanted to thank Aprillian for the advice on the Nagrand quest with the trampoline.  I worked on that darn quest for over an hour - with your suggestion on how to make the jump it worked on my 2nd try.  Another DK and I had to team up to kill the bird that worked well. I really get alot out of your podcasts and even though you tend to be a bit Hordish I enjoy it anyway. Have a great week - looking forward to the next podcast. Thanks, Tracey (Warhumpdy, Dkhumpdy) on Malygos (Hey to Hand of Destiny guildies) Email #2 from Patrick Hello folks Well I made another move from Garrosh to Wyrmrest Accord (now I am starting to sound like Aprillian).  The reason why I moved again is my friend missed the free window from Earthen Ring to Garrosh and we really wanted to team up and level as a group. The 2nd reason is the same as what Glanthur had stated about RP servers.  Like him, I just wanted to be on a RP server to watch role playing.  I, like Glanthur, am not a role player but I found that many players on RP servers are friendlier and tend to help out more.  Sure you always get the clowns, but in general, I find the attitude is far better. That's all for now. Email #3 from Xandarr Hello, it is Xandarr again.  http://ctrlaltwow.podbean.com/2009/01/16/ctrl-alt-wow-episode-97-respec-just-a-little-bit (But now I have made two new toons on the Perenolde Server with the Epic Dolls Guild.  You might know them as some of your fellow podcasters) Anyway, I was shocked to hear you read my email on the air.  I was so excited that when I got home that evening I let my wife listen to it.  BOY DID SHE ROLL HER EYES AT ME.  She said that not only was is more addicts trying to justiy my addiction with them, but that when she has our next baby in 8 months I have to give up the game entirely. ACK!!!  NO!!! Anyway, such is life right?  I am really not looking forwardto giving up WoW competely.  She dosn't realize I FIND MY TIME TO PLAY and NEED that time... desperately.  Even if it is an hour here or an hour there.  I just gotta find better times to make time for WoW after I take care of the baby and stuff.  I gotta find a way to make a deal with her.  Any ideas? I did write a review for you guys on I tunes under the name Jasper2112.  Love your show, and I am glad it is on weekly. FOR THE HORDE! Chilie & Cornbread (Tauren Hunter and pet cat) with Portirhouse (Tauren Death Knight) Dubbed "He-who-loves-food" by guildmates Common Dolls with the Epic Dolls guild on Perenolde Server Email #4 from Eranth Aprillian, Ashayo, Glanther (&Blade!) I thought I'd drop you a line for the next show and just make a few comments about the recent patch with the “Hunter Nerf” from the casual hunter's perspective. There had been a good deal of concern that this patch would really hose down the DPS of the Hunter.  While I believe that the result that Blizzard has come up with does tone down the DPS of the Beastmaster and likely the Marksman some, we may see the Survival Hunter tuned up to be more viable.  What I've noticed with my more casual play of my Beastmaster Hunter is that where my pets were pretty tough before, able to aggro, hold and grind down 4 or 5 mid-70's to upper-70's mobs, I'm having to throw down more Pet Mends to keep him up and going.  While I feel like my DPS has come down some, it's not nearly as drastic as I was imagining it would be. While I haven't crunched any numbers, my evidence is simply based on trying to pay attention to how encounters have gone, compared to how they felt they'd gone in the past.  I've done a fair amount of grinding out leather in Scholazar Basin, trying to pull in 3 or 4 mobs at a time, multi-shot and AOE them down, then collect the skins.  Again, the biggest difference I've noticed is having to throw down Mend Pet more often than before, because my pet isn't as tough as he used to be. I'd be interested to hear what others have experienced! Keep up the good work with Control-Alt-WoW! “Walk with the Earth Mother..” --Eranth AIE on Earthen Ring Email #5 iTunes Review

Aprillian, Glanthur and Ashayo discuss another week of playing World of Warcraft, Blizzard's great MMORPG. Actually no Ashayo this week. But he'll be back next week. Write us at ctrlaltwow@gmail.com Contest for WoW Mini's Contest for emails What We've Been Doing: Aprillian Quad boxed in Nagrand, it was quite the experience.  Epril, Elyte, Auruk and Aprillian.  Finished the Crone quest and then hearthed to Dalaran and did some maintainance and prof training.  Epril got her JC up over 325 and headed back to Nagrand where she ran into that chick with the many hides quest.  Aprillian needed training, hadn't been to a Warlock Trainer in ages, spent over 50 g and finally figured out how to socket her boots. Sometimes you have to take the time to read.  Elyte made some glyph, turned out she had some open spaces Went to do the mana cell daily with Aprillian, fell off of the Landing, had to run around to get back to the town and find a Spirit Healer Took Auruk and the twins back to Nagrand.  Did the War on Warmual quest, freeing those guys out of the cage.  Auruk had done the quests but he managed to ding 66, so that was cool.  I have to remember to take him back to train.  There was some tricky stuff, for instance Elyte needed Obsidian beads so she needed to do the looting but Epril needed the powder. New transfers off of ER.  I transfered the Death Knight that wasn't one of the twins, started a DK gnome, her blade goes through the ground.  Then I panicked because Thejasper was my high level DE'er and now I didn't have any.  So I decided to get out Veyle, my level 40 rogue enchanter BS and Tiiaa my mage enchanter skinner.  Veyle has Enchanting maxed at 300 because she needs to get to 50.  I brought my level 39 Mage along, she was 3 bubbles from 40.  I want her to get portals.  I took the 3 out to the Badlands where Tiiaa got those two gathering quests Glanthur Transferred from Earthen Ring on my Alliance alts (Glanthur and Arlaerus) to Wyrmrest Accord, a RPPvE realm.  I was so new I actually got a realm first for 450 in cooking achievement.  There were only 20-something 80s on the whole server the first day, so I joined a great guild called Lost Chapter (a raid guild) and we ran Obsidian Sanctum.  Since we were the first, we got another Realm First, and I'm now officially Obsidian Slayer Glanthur.  So cool! Also been leveling Arlaerus, since the guild needs more healers.  It's tough though finding good plate spell-casting gear. Great Ventrillo client for Mac is Ventrilo (also has a PC and Linux client). The Bladed Edge Now... this week's been busy in real life, so Ol' Blade doesn't have a lot of news to report... my little project is coming along... hit a few snags here and there... but I hope by next week to be back in Northrend hammering my way up to 80... Got things to do, you know... gotta level my Engineering skill, too! That said, if you need any tinkering or sudden miraculous inventions to be made... Ol' Blade's not half-bad... but I *did* come across someone who totally bests me in the 'miraculous invention' department... McGoyver... Ya... seriously... he's in Howling Fjord... admittedly, it's a bit of a lunch-bag let-down that he's a Gnome... but regardless... he's on the beach at Volgarde... he's even got a tag under his name... very apt for one of the best inventors of miraculous stuff... Moving on. From the 'Dirty Little Tricks' Department: For the Hunters... a two in one... 'cause... if you're like me on Wolftusk... not the *best* Hunter in the world... but not so clueless as to be called a 'Huntard' (those are the ones that let their pet Growl the aggro off the Tank... you know who you are...) The rest of us get tarred with a nasty brush every time one of you jokers goofs up in a dungeon... so hopefully this two-shot of macros will help that from happening a little less often... Two-shot... see what I did there?  I made a punny! Step one: /Focus Target Manually select your target (player, pet, or even a mob) you want as a focus, and hit the macro.  They now have a shiny glow around their character picture, showing them as your focus... and yes, your focus can also be an enemy mob; you may be on CC (crowd control) duty and assigned to chain trap a particular mob. This macro does its part by making the mob your focus... making it easier to keep track of your enemy. Now... step 2... /Target Focus /Assist Target /Cast Auto Shot (or whatever... some folks like to have an instant-cast shot like Arcane Shot in here... it's personal preference, really... some prefer a slower-acting shot like Serpent Sting to allow the tank to generate a little Threat before the damage starts...) Assuming that you used the macro we just mentioned to choose the Tank as your Focus, this macro will allow you to /assist your focus (the tank) and let fly with one of your attacks. If you *remove* the third line and don't have an attack launched at the tank's target as soon as you hit this macro, then you select the tank's target as your own (that's what /assist does) and you wait... this might be a wise thing to do depending on the situation... it lets the tank generate the threat they need to keep the mobs from focussing on you! But then... there's something to be said about waiting a few seconds while the tank does their thing... Whatever you do... don't use Aimed Shot... if you do, I'll track you down and call you a Huntard myself... From Ol' Blade's Easter Egg Basket: As everyone knows by now, Ol' Blade's been doing some exploring... and some of the more out-of-the-reach places have hidden things to find if you look hard enough... For example... when flying between Elwynn Forest and Burning Steppes, if you look down, you can see some campsites along the banks of a small river or stream that eventually feeds the waterfall in Northshire... you can't get to this place from Elwynn FZorest, but there's a path that leads right up the mountains to it from the Burning Steppes... I recommend being high enough level to not drawn aggro from the level 50+ monsters in this zone... From up here, there's some pretty spectacular views of Elwynn Forest... and another little curiosity... near the banks of the stream, there's a school of fish you can fish from... but you don't catch fish... you catch peaceblooms... Also... if you swim south from Menethil Harbor in the Wetlands (or technically north from Stormwind Harbor) you will come to a spot on the coastline called 'Newman's Landing'. Now... I know what you're thinking... who goes THERE? Apparently not many people... it *does* seem to be a pun of the phrase "No Man's Land" after all... Not a friendly place... there's skeletons all over the place... it looks like the last time I pvp'd against the Alliance... there's even a signpost with a skull balanced on an axe embedded in the post. From what I hear, this place used to be completely abandoned... maybe a long-forgotten pirate treasure-burial site?  Who knows? High Admiral "Shelly" Jorrik might. He's the goblin that - with a few guards - has recently come to the area... maybe to dig for pirate gold? As always, an awesome podcast guys! Blade Emails Email #1 From Patrick Bye bye to Earthin Ring for me Hello guys For the past few weeks, when I have tried to sign onto the Earthin Ring, 95% of the time I am stuck in a queue. Unfortunately I encountered the last straw a few days ago and that was it, I took the free character move and moved Bruurk, my lvl 35 hunter and my other alt, to the Garrosh server.  Unfortunately this does mean I have left AIG which did disappoint me quit a bit, but the fact that there is no more queue time now means I can play for bloody change !! So sorry Ashayo, as it was you who added me to AIE guild. LOL, So Aprillian you no longer have to worry about my alt lurking in the AH to intercept your cross faction auctions.  By the way, in listening to the last few pod casts, I think I figured out the name of your alliance toon that you use in your AH laundering scams.  Not to worry you secret is safe since I am no long on Earthin Ring !!!! Well that is all for now !! Go Arsenal FC !! Patrick Email #2 from Brenry - Boulderfist Name: Brenry - Boulderfist | Date: January 17, 2009 When he comments on his dread about Pinnacle gauntlet… there is a way to EASY mode it. Here's how ! Party waits in room before gauntlet. Someone aggros boss so he'll fly up starting event. That person runs back. He and all the mobs will despawn. Then the party runs all the way down the hall to the room at the other end. This will avoid ALL frost issues on ground. Just aoe the mob waves that spawn on top of you. Right before the 5th or 6th (i forget which) wave when the boss lands, everyone leave room so they avoid cleave of boss and tank picks it up. Enjoy free epics XD Email #3 from Dreamweaver I have just finished listening to Ctrlaltwow and was quite shocked to hear my e-mail on the show as looking back it was quite long, and was even more shocked to found out i won. Email #3a from Dreamweaver Dreamweaver back again, after listening to the podcast and being suprised that i won the roll (see other e-mail) i would like to say sorry for missing out Glanthur from the very start, BUT i did say something about all three of you in the Itunes review i did before i wrote the e-mail to Ctrlaltwow Also a little update from my fuzzball druid, after quite some time working on all the rep with the home cities i finaly got the Title reward of Ambassador :D i was so pleased with myself i was runing round all over the place showing off my title, and about 30 mins later i got a wisper from a friend asking to tank malygos 10 man, so ofc i went, i have been before so i knew what to do in phase one and two but i hadnt been able to down him as of then. untill i got into this group... the damage that all of these people were doing was amazing so getting malygos to 50% in quite a short time came the next phase, this is where mobs come flying down on hover disc's (think back to the future) so the ones that were on the ground i picked up while they were nuked down, then the ones in the air were taken down aswell. in this phase when one of the mobs die they drop the hover disc's and melee can jump onto them and dps down the ones flying in the air, once they are all dead the platform that you are on just crumbles away and all 10 of us just fall into space to our deaths...... but just when i think OOOOHHHH NNOOEEESSSS while falling 10 drakes from the dragonflight come sweeping up and we land on the backs of them, the drakes have abilitys all of there own so we use the drakes spells to kill malygos. 1% left on him and the second he dies KABOOM  **Dreamweaver has earned Champion of the Frozen Wastes** So now i am shown as 'Dreamweaver Champion of the Frozen Wastes' I didnt even know i would get the title so was a bit shocked and getting it only an hour after getting the title of Ambassador. My druid has a funny a in its name so will link his armory page http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Draenor&n=Dre%C3%A1mweaver

Aprillian, Glanthur and Ashayo discuss another week of playing World of Warcraft, Blizzard's great MMORPG. Actually no Ashayo this week. But he'll be back in a couple of weeks.  Also, we did have some sound issues with this episode, so we apologize in adavance. Write us at ctrlaltwow@gmail.com Contest Reminder:  Submit an email and be placed in a drawing. iTunes Reviews - please! What We've Been Doing: Aprillian Levelling Enchanting on The Jasper  [Large Radiant Shard] [Greater Nether Essence] [Lesser Eternal Essence] Saw a level 11 in Stormwind yelling for 4g to buy him some boots. Spent Friday morning transferring over pets to the alliance side.  Aprillian went out on the Mana cells daily. Thinking of transferring some toons to the new realm.  Playing WoW while eating breakfast in Denny's. Did the Bring me the Egg Quest in the Nagrand with the two DK's Epril and Elyte.  It was hard getting the trampoline just right.  But one egg worked for both, so that was cool. On the train back, wasn't too sure about the signal.  Took Epril to get the Tortured Stone quest.  Try to do quest that require individual looting when I can only play one. Also transferred over Pets for my alliance toon to sell.  Doing a brisk business.  My horde toon at the NAH in BB is a level 39 mage.  Comes in handy.  I set her hearth to BB, she can teleport to UC and TB for cockroaches and prairie dogs respectively and then hearth back to BB.  I still have a toon on that account in Eversong Woods to buy dragonhawk hatchlings. Sunday night queue queue on ER so went to Lethon.  I had Belover in WC grinding leather.  She was at 60 this pass week, I'm getting her to 150 in WC and then she'll move on.  She summoned Aprillian, a level 13 Rogue and Aprillian is getting nice drops including the Gloves of Fang. Monday night I was stuck in Chicago, I was put up in a room and played WoW.  I took Aprillian out to do a daily. Monday evening queues on ER, logged into Lethon and took my DK's there out skinning and herb picking in WC.  Why are the herbs in WC 100 Kingsblood and 125 Bruiseweed Logged  into ER a little later on.  Fought Bangar, one of the Nessinwary Elite with the two DK's, a piece of cake.  Went over to the consortium and turned in some crystals and became friendly.  Epril, the miner, bought some JC patterns she can't use yet.  Nothing for inscripters, poor Elyte Did some more Consortium quests, but then some horde were attacking Haala.  I was going from DC to Providence and thought I had a good connection One small problem, find herb and find minerals resetting at log in, a pain if I forget to turn it on. Decided to check on my AH alt, almost sold out of everything. Also decided to Glanthur Respeced Arlaerus from Protection to Holy and leveled him from 70-73 Doing Heroics with Glanthur and collecting Badges of Heroism Lots of Icecrown dailies Dwarven Alliance is a good guild! The Bladed Edge So there I was... wandering through Grizzly Hills on my way to snapping up my Northrend Explorer achievement... while listening to Episode 96 (specifically the emails section)... when I came across some critters in the pvp area of Venture Bay. As Forlornelf said... four deer and four mice! So... to answer the question: yes, I did know about them (about fifteen minutes before I heard it mentioned in Episode 96)... but Ol' Blade's not so egotistical to not be able to admit when he doesn't know something about something... WHY those critters are there, specifically... and why they're in the configuration they're in - four deer and four mice... and why they have multiple groups of them all climbing the hill every thirty seconds or so from 20,77 to 20,72 (I saw two distinct paths of them)... I have NO idea. But yeah... good find, Forlornelf... not many people travel out that way. I debated and debated as to whether I wanted to do the world pvp in the area... the quests being worth xp and all... and decided to continue my solo project... the results of which I hope to be able to provide soon... As mentioned, Ol' Blade's been travelling hither and yon across the world of Azeroth (and Outland) striving towards a few achievements - partly because the best way to experience the game is by going there. So I went. To Stormwind. And took the tram to Ironforge... but not before jumping off midway to catch a look at Nessy the Sea Serpent! Also... what's the deal with the gnomes in the Deeprun Tram tunnel?  One's named Haggle... he seems to be a /nod to the movie Labyrinth and the character 'Hoggle'... he was short and ugly too... but there's a second gnome... Monty... and he's got three boxes behind him... perhaps a 'Let's Make a Deal' Monty Haul reference... the problem is... each of those boxes is full of rats... and as this Monty fellow is a 'Rat Extermination Specialist'... I somehow doubt there's a wad of cash in Box Number Three. Onward... to Ironforge... fished up my Fishing Diplomat achievement while I was there... and nearly ran afoul of some over-eager Alliance players that thought I would be easy-pickings as a PVP target. Needless to say... I remained unscathed. Took a few screenies of the Dwarf bankers I mentioned before... just so I can say I did it... And by the time this episode airs, I'll have gone back at least once more to try to fish up Old Ironjaw one more time. That is... unless the randomly wandering, stealth-detecting level 80elites in Stormwind and Ironforge don't catch me first. ('Cause you Alliance players don't seem to be able to... ZING!) But yeah... I haven't moused over the patrolling NPCs in Orgrimmar or Thunder Bluff in a while... but last I knew WE didn't have level 80 goons all over OUR major cities... For all I know, we do... but even if we do... somehow I doubt we have anywhere near as many. Ah well... those super-elites are probably a good thing... they're probably the only thing stopping ol' Blade from setting up in Stormwind as my hometown... that and the lack of a friendly innkeeper. Moving on. From the 'Dirty Little Tricks' Department: Back to Rogues again... this time we're being extra-especially sneaky. As you may all suspect, Ol' Blade doesn't make ALL of his money by questing or even playing the Auction House Stock Market... a respectable chunk of Ol' Blade's finances are gotten via the "five-finger discount"... for those not already aware... I pickpocket every chance I get. Some of the higher level mobs in Northrend are netting me upwards of 50-75 silver per pickpocket. Go through a couple dozen of them at a time... especially if you can find a host of (non-aggressive) Neutral ones. Here's another macro fit for saving space on the hotbar: /cast Sap /cast Pick Pocket The benefits of this little combo are obvious. If, for some reason your pick pocket was to fail, you pop out of stealth. Tapping this combo lets you at least have a sap on the mob allowing you a decent chunk of time to simply run out of aggro range long before the sap wears off. Quick and dirty. From Ol' Blade's Easter Egg Basket: For all you Lore Buffs out there... it's fairly common knowledge that the Thandol Span Bridge (between Arathi and the Wetlands) was destroyed by the Dark Iron Dwarves. There is a corpse underwater beneath the bridge that starts a (so far as I know) Alliance-only quest called 'Sully Balloo's Letter' (You deliver the letter to Sara Balloo in Ironforge) Now... here's where things get interesting... Sullivan Ballou was a soldier during the U.S. Civil War who sent a letter to his wife Sara on July 14, 1861. The in-game letter is a reference to the real-life letter written by Sully (Sullivan) to Sara. As another interesting parallel, the dwarves of Ironforge and the Dark Iron dwarves have been at each others throats since THEIR civil war... approximately 200 years ago, gametime. And for something a little more light-hearted? A little-known quest in the Barrens. Just outside Crossroads along the road to Ratchet, there will be a hut on the north side of the road... outside you will find a Tauren vendor of bread (Tarban Hearthgrain) and a small Orc boy named Gruk. Inside, though, are two individuals - Duhng, a Cooking Trainer, Guard Taruc (feasting on a bench at the back) and Grub, who gives you a quest called "Dig Rat Stew". It's not a very difficult quest, but the fun part is Grub's comment at the end. "You can't call yourself a seasoned adventurer until you've spent some time killing rats! Haw!" Most MMOs (WoW included) are known to force starting players to kill trivial creatures like rats or insects during the first few levels of play. With this little tongue-in-cheek homage, Blizzard makes reference to this little factoid and also provides a recipe to COOK the rats! Yum! - Show quoted text - Email #1 The Ruk said... Wow, congrats to Aprillian hitting 70! I bumped into her a few days ago while dragging myself through the Outlands, Nagrand I think it was. We were both standing at a flight point. I was so stunned when I noticed the big 7-0 that by the time I came to my senses, she had flown away before I could offer my "grats" in person. So a big /salute on your accomplishment! As someone who has been listening to the podcast for quite some time, I know this has been a long time coming. I finally shelled out the gold for my mains epic flyer, but now im sad that he is down to double digit gold now!:( I wanted to ask you all about quest helper and see if it is operator error on me or it is what it is. I have loved quest helper and yes it is a cheat button or easy mode whatever people may call it, it does make things a lot quicker, for questing that is of course. But it has always used lots of mb, for me as much as 35 up to 50 mb! My system can handle it but when I turn off QH the game does run smoother and my mb usage goes down to only 30 mb in total. What do you suggest or recommend? I have a laptop so I really cant get more ram but 2 gig's is enough, and if there is a setting i can change that will help that please let me know. Well myself, i'm from england so i'm on the EU, server draenor or also better known as Drama EU with the amount that goes on here lol. i have been playing this game on and off for quite some time now (almost from the begining but not quite) my main that i play is a fuzzy Druid tank called Dreamweaver and i am LOVING playing him, tonight i have just come out of Naxx 25 after clearing just over 3 wings of it. One thing i wanted to say is about people saying how easy it is, yes i do agree it is easy (ish) but still its only an opening raid, and how many people have cleared it so far? ofc all the good guilds have cleared it, and why is that? because they are good.... a LOT of people are still having problems with it and cant finish it, have more guilds cleared it than would of before say Pre BC?, Yes.. and why is that? because that's what blizz wanted it to be like. Just wait and see is all i will say about that. Dreamweaver isnt my only toon i play on, infact he wasn't my first. as i have been on and off the game i have QUITE a few toons lol. My first toon was a priest called Aramite and he was my 1st lvl 60 i ever had (if people can remember 60 being the max lvl) i had him and used to raid in the good ole days of Molten Core/BlackWing Lair, didn't get a chance to down Neffy before BC came :(.  Just before BC came upon us i was lvling a hunter called Nightweaver and got him to lvl 60, i was having SOO much fun playing him that i decided that he would be my 1st lvl 70 when BC came about as it was comming out very soon, so thats what i did, he got to lvl 70 but i had to get back to my priest as i didn't feel right leaving him to gather dust Stood in a dark damp corner of Ironforge crying :( sooo i managed to get him up to lvl 70 as well and after a while went back to healing with him. But being an altoholic i just had to have more as i loved playing around and being able to learn about an new toon and what they could do, i already had a Healer in epics and also a ranged damage dealer in very good gear so i went to pick out one of my low lvl toons that would be up there close to the action, so what better then a rogue to slice and dice with, being all dark and stabby stabby i had mine called Night (fitting in with my hunter) i enjoyed lvling with him but for some reason i didn't like it as much as my hunter or priest but i stook with him and got him to lvl 70 yet at lvl 70 i still didnt enjoy him as much :( SOOO with blizz bringing out Shamens and paladins to the oppisit factions i didn't jump on the bandwagon until now, i lvled a shammy, it took me quite a while to lvl so i swapped out now and again to lvl a warlock (called nightfall, see how after my 1st toon i started to tie all my toons names together) i got my shammy to 70 (yet another 70 i know) i left them alone and started to enjoy my priest and hunter..... Until things started to look bleak in the guild, things got worse and worse so needed somewhere to get away seeing as all these toons were in the same guild. I had a very low unlooked after mangy druid that i said to myself why not, so after some time he was the only one i was playing and joined up with a very nice guild called Angelic Knights, time passed by and he was lvl 70, even more time passed by and he was in raids passing all my other toons gear lvl. and then it came up to another expansion Wrath and yet another choice to make on who to get upto lvl 80? my priest who was my first toon? my hunter who i had so much fun with? another toon that i had got up? you guessed it, i went with my beloved fuzzball Dreamweaver my one and only cute ball of fur druid and to this day i knew i made a right choice. I'm babbling on a bit here and didn't see the time, its 40 mins past midnight here and i need to be up at 6 :( but ohwell its friday and only half a day so thats not bad. I just want to say thanks to all three of you and keep bringing out a smashing pod cast. Hugs and kisses from a smelly druid that just wants some /hugs (Sorry for this being a total mess, its quite late and i need sleep, hope you can read it ok >.< ) Email # 5 from Ginsue Hey Guys, Love the show. I have been listening now for about 6 weeks or so. On a past episode you talked about your play style of leveling alts instead of playing end game. You questioned that fact that you may be missing something about Wow. The truth is you are missing a large aspect of Wow that is very enjoyable for a large number of folks. This does not by any stretch mean that "you are doing it wrong." You missed some fun raiding in BC that I guess you could go back later and see but I don't think it would be the same. From listening to your podcast I can tell that you enjoy the smaller parts of the game that a lot of the rest of us don't catch or ignore. So though you miss some things it sounds like you are having a hoot doing it your way. I am guilty of running like a mad fool to the end to see the end game content instead of taking my time and seeing everything that there is to see. This play style has its ups and downs like anything else. Have any of you noticed the gal you buy jewel patterns from in Dalaran is named Tiffany Cartier. I thought it was neat. Keep up the good work!! Ginsue 80 Blood Elf Rogue iTunes Review from Ginsue, thanks! Email #6 from Xandarr Question for you that I would like to bring up:  How can I get my wife to understand that my WoW play is not an addiction but a way to releive stress at the end of the day.  I only play a couple hours a night while we watch TV together.  Or on Friday nights I stay up late after my wife goes to bed or I wake up early on the weekends to play while she is still sleeping.  How can I get her to think differently about the game?  How could I show her the social aspect or the way I play?  Does that make sense? Xandarr the Ambassador Protectorate Paladin of theTwiizted Blackened Roses Trollbane Server Email #7 from Mimdalf I cant believe you guys picked me!  Thank You so very much.  I would like the free month, incidentally it will be my last month playing World of Warcraft as I am being deployed the first week of March with my Calvary unit. Aprillian, Ashayo and Glanthur discuss another week of playing World of Warcraft, Blizzard's great MMORPG. What We've Been Doing: Aprillian Had 2 sex changes - Theardrion became Epril and Rifire became Auruk Brought Death Knights to Nagrand and did some other fp's in Outland with Aprillian DK can kill mobs 4 or 5 levels above them. Decided I wanted to do some instances with my DK's, tried Hellfire Citadel, doable but lots of time is needed and concentration.  Then I tried upper and lower Black Rock and then Strolohome in EP.  It was fun, but then I went back to Nagrand with Aprillian and Auruku Got Ding Recorder Addon and Epril dinged 63 but it didn't show the interface so all you see is her in a could of ding dust.  Read the info and found out how to turn on "show interface" Got my Figure Print of Aprillian: [IMG]http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll317/AprillianAIE/AprillianFP.jpg[/IMG] [IMG]http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll317/AprillianAIE/AIETabard.jpg[/IMG] Bought a Sun Scope +40 Haste for Auruku and found out he couldn't equip it, needed a level 70 or above.  Been carrying the crossbow from Nessingwary in Nagrand.  Shoutout to Mollyshot for putting the scope on for me. Got TheJasper up to 275 in Enchanting and now can de Outland Greens Glanthur Finally got to exalted with Kalu'ak.  I love the penguin!  Now I need to farm fishing.  I also got ALL of my weapon skills to 400 that I had - including unarmed.  I got the "Knuckle Sandwich" achievement.  Also got "Ultimate Triage" which was unexpected and cool. Disappointed about lack of dailies for Argent Crusade.  I want the gun, but it'll be forever until I get enough rep through the dailies to get it. Should be exalted with The Oracles within 12 days.  I have a Mysterious Egg that I'm hoping will hatch into a Green Proto-Drake.  I doubt that it will. Respeced my Unholy Death Knight, Herid, to Blood and my Frost Mage, Palanor, to Arcane. Working on getting my pet bear, Dov, to 80 on Glanthur. Got all confused with my DK in Hellfire.  I kept wanting to ride into Honor Hold - but they don't like Horde very much there.  Old habits die hard. Also, will be getting a better microphone after Christmas with expected Christmas cash.  I'm having an inferiority complex compared to Ashayo and Aprillian's sound quality. I was affected by the Comcast/Verizon issue.  It was so frustrating!  I hope that they figure out what the cause was.  Yeah, Comcast.  . Ashayo Ran Violet Hold on both Asheal (as healer) and Ashayo (as dps) Ran Oculus on Ashayo - lots of fun doing the last boss while flying! Ashayo dinged 80 in Sholazar Basin (shortly after getting the Nessingwary achievements) Levelling Mining to 450 on two miners for titansteel cooldown. Fairly easy in Sholazar Basin. Death Knights questing in Outlands - ran Ramparts & Blood Furnace Levelling Jewelcrafting - tough around 410-420 Levelling Alchemy - research once a week - nice trinket for level 75 - tough at 420 - green to 425, then can transmute earthsiege diamond (no cooldown!) Levelling Inscription - learnt epic offhand at 400, but can't use till 425 :( Ashayo just waiting on Crashin' Thrashin' Racer to complete Winter's Veil achievements Winter's Veil questing is resulting in some nice presents in the mail! - tailor green suit - enchanting frost weapon - lw gloves - green holiday shirt - elixir of frost power Emails: Email 1 - From Blade Hey April! Feel free to edit as necessary... I did this one a bit 'on the fly' and grabbed a bunch of screenshots. Let me know when it's 'too much'... lol Michael Hey guys... Blade here... Congrats to all the winners of the contest (and kudos to those who contributed)... it's always interesting to see the variance in lifestyles of Warcraft players... Now... Ol' Blade's been doing some looking around... and has decided - for all you folks that have found your way to Dalaran and are less than impressed at how laggy it is... - to take you on a tour of the sewers... Why? It's a little less congested with mindless drones running around bogging up the server... and THAT's just the NPCs! (See?  I didn't say ANYthing nasty about Alliance players there at all!  "Diplomacy" for the win!) So... find the stairs up to the flightpath... see the hole-in-the-wall beside it? That leads down.  There's a few of these tunnels scattered around Dalaran... Beneath the hustle-bustle of the lag-infested metropolis that is Dalaran, there is a different place... Lots of darker-looking wizardy types like these guys... personally I think they've read one too many Harry Potter books (whatsit... "Nock-Turn Alley?")... but that's just me... they're dressing to fit in, you see... The Dalaran sewers is a darker, quieter place where Ol' Blade and other rogues and nefarious ne'er-do-wells like me can relax... kick back... and not have to pretend we're 'For the Light' or other such nonsense... We're creatures of shadows... and the sewers is a nice dark place... However... You'll want to be aware of where you step in the sewers... there's enough water here to hold a shark (probably for any unwary goodie-goodies that stray too far in the wrong direction... or maybe someone needs to 'get rid' of something... either way... Segacedi's been here long enough that the locals NAMED him... There's huge sewer rats... and alligators waiting to take a snap at you... Dunno what's in that area with the big chunks of meat... maybe it's something we use to spook the tourists... Lots of rats, though... I caught one unfortunate fella while I was trying my hand at fishing... caught a couple of these Magic Eaters, too... don't know what they do yet... Oh... while we're on the subject of 'Mysterious Things with Unknown Properties', you may in your visit to the sewers find one of these 'Underbelly Elixirs' sitting around on the ground... they have unknown properties and only work in the city of Dalaran... I've heard they have transformative properties... Speaking of transformations... I've been meaning to talk to the locals about this level80 rat I saw... it seems he's gathered four level 1 turtles to him and they've all been exposed to whatever oozes are on the ground in the sewers here... Maybe he'll teach them some form of combat training... and they'll grow up to become master rogues... 'ninja' turtles, if you will... All he has to do is name them... I'll suggest a list of Renaissance Painters as possible choices for him... Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael come to mind... Yep... we rogues all stick together... for example... I've been meaning to talk to Nisstina here about her stealthing skill... it's not quite so effective when your pet worg pup is standing out in plain sight for all to see... But Ol' Blade loves his fellow rogues... which is where I'm leading with my tip... a macro specifically for the more-subtle among the rogues... the Shadow Step. Now, if you've used Shadow Step, you'll know that it poofs you directly behind your target - the utility of it is clearly of the most benefit for anyone that uses daggers, though I have heard of its use in Garotting someone as well - which is not dagger specific. You non-dagger folks can adapt this macro to suit your needs. If you're specc'd enough into the Subtlety tree and use daggers, then Improved Ambush is a must-have due to its fairly massive bonus crit potential... and you will most likely have Premeditation (a talent that adds 2 combo points to your target instantly). Here's the macro I've been using to a great deal of success: /cast Premeditation /cast Shadow Step /cast Ambush Seems simple enough... and they're not all on the same timer or global cooldown, so when I pop it, and they're all ready to go, I instantly poof behind my target, and BAM! Ambush them (most likely a crit) for an easy 4 combo points! Add a final combo point here if you prefer, I do or don't depending on how much health my target has... Kidney Shot, then zip behind them (cause here you should have upwards of 80 or more Energy) and Backstab them twice... if they aren't yet dead, they're pretty darn close! To sum it up... it's a macro that has helped me immensely... I get awesome burst damage and have MUCH more survivability than I did when I was using two swords in the combat tree. Seriously... I theorycrafted it and attacked combat dummies and everything! And now... Something from Ol' Blade's Easter Egg Basket: Something I just noticed... when you're in the sewers of Dalaran... pull up your map. It says 'Circle of Wills' in the center... anyone know anything about real-life human anatomy? The 'Circle of Willis' is a collection of arteries at the base of the brain that provides a number of different supply routes for blood (and nutrients) to GET to the brain... Interesting that the circular hub (with lots of fluid) beneath Dalaran is named very similarly... perhaps the 'mind' of Dalaran could not exist without the 'Circle of Wills' in the sewers providing sustenance to it? This one's for the Hordies out there... if you're an Alliance player (and you know who you are...) you will either have to be really sneaky or roll a lowbie Horde toon to see this. Inside the bank in Undercity the four bankers are named Ophelia, William, Randolf and Mortimer respectively. The sneaky thing here is the fact that they all have the same name: 'Montague'. Is it a reference to Shakespeare? (You know... the Montague family in 'Romeo and Juliet') Ah, my friends... that is what we call a 'red herring'... the REAL secret is in their FIRST names... 'Randolf' and 'Mortimer' were the big shot banking brothers in the 1983 movie Trading Places with Dan Ackroyd and Eddie Murphy. 'Ophelia' was the love interest character played by Jamie Lee Curtis. 'William' is a probable reference to Eddie Murphy's character 'Billy Ray'. That's all for now... As always, an awesome podcast guys! Blade Email 2 from MO blizzard might fix this by the time you record again but for the mistletoe buffs, if you make a macro you can get double buffs: ew /kiss /targetlasttarget /kiss just make sure you target a revealer and than another revealer happy holidays mo PM: Message subject:      Ctrl Alt WoW show From:     Ponfarr Sent at:     Tue Dec 16, 2008 11:59 am To:     Aprillian Message Listened for first time today on my iPod during drive to work. Aprillian and Ashayo discuss another week of playing World of Warcraft, Blizzard's great MMORPG.  Glanthur join in with the Alliance POV. New weekly prize contest - enter a drawing to win one month's play time. What We've been doing: Aprilian Got Aprillian in Nagrand with Rilfire and grabbed every quest I could find.  Using Cartographer and Gatherer.  Funny thing is when Rilfire arrived, she had no ammo, just had her do hunter's mark and send in her ravager while Aprillian and her Felhunter did the rest.  Picked up the Nessingwary quest Monday morning, off today!!    Did some of the Nessingwary quest and Aprillian dinged 66. Tuesday morning, no maintenance, just server restarts.  Sent ThePrimall back to Thrallmar to level up herbalism, she was 300+ but needed 315 for Dreaming glory in FW.  Sent Theardrion back to Kalimdor to mine thorium and truesilver for JC.  Although I'm sure I could just do quest in Outland and use all the gold I make to buy the mats I need. I was in Dalaran with TheJasper enchanting DK getting stuff from the WLTS gb.  He was leveling by doing the speed enhancement to boots and putting them on scrolls.  There was someone in trade chat saying they were giving away all of their mats, he mocked TheJasper for being only 221 in Enchanting Took Aprillian out in Nagrand solo on Friday, then Rilfire. Ashayo Witness Protection Scheme - $15 per toon! Warlock Spellstone / Firestone - applied to weapon since 3.0.2 !! Blessed Wizard oil and Superior Wizard Oil (58) can't apply to weapon - "too high"! Trying to get Asheal to catchup to Ashayo - heal Nexus, dps Azjol-Nerub and Grundrak Asheal 77 - training + cold weather flying + epic flying + mount 6800 -> 184 Matahorn dinged 80 on hunter - helped with Ring of Anguish in Zul'Drak (Ring of blood achievement) Matahorn pointed out -explore before you hit 80 for the XP: Ashayo the Explorer (easy with flyer) Death Knight overpowered examples: 58 DK vs 55 Elite Devilsaur - hardly lost any health vs lvl 60 Elite stone guardian - I got down to about 60% health Soloed Baron Char ( was reasonably tough, but I'm a noob DK ) Ashayo ran Drak'Tharon Keep - FUN - turned into ghouls on last boss ; DK type attacks Discovered you can JC dailies at 70 ; just need to kill a level 70 mob, plus some green gems. Wyrmrest daily - can dual box after 77 with flying :) Fo' Grizzle my Shizzle - 75 Grizzly Hills Started Sholazar Basin - quest to open flight path Mining ; 450 at level 70 on Ashield ; saronite ore. Aprillian and Ashayo discuss another week of playing World of Warcraft, Blizzard's great MMORPG. Full Show Notes at http://ctrlaltwow.com   What We Did   Aprillian   Sunday I totally reevaluated my RAF technique and realized my RAF accounts should be easy toons and the ones on my Referred account should be throw away leaving some low level to up level.  I botched up in that I should have made all hunters on the referred account.   Then I became obsessed with getting a yeti   Ran Primall and Iwari around until Primal got to 41 and got to wear mail and Iwari got to 50.  I'm not sure how many levels she  has to grant, pretty sure it's been 2 since I transferred her.  She was also able to level up Engineering and I wasted time on that. cc   Friday night I took Drame and Queaa into WC with Ardrion.  We cleared and did the last escort quest.  That was fun   Sat, back to reevaluation.  First I made a Shaman on the master account thinking I would use the lower level (10-25) to get that one up.  I realized it should be a character I  wasn't good at. and decided to get the level 40 guys to 60.  Went back to STV to finish those quests.   Ashayo   Dual-boxing herbalism - Hiide flying around Hellfire Peninsula, and Glaciuss riding (Yes, I bought him an epic mount) around Barrens and Stonetalon. Fast-paced farming!   Ashwhack, the warrior, reached level 30 ; so have my second Kodo. Having real trouble organising all the spells and abilities, and knowing when to use what during a fight (Suggestions welcome) At 30, got Beserker stance to add to the confusion. Also got the quest for a nice 2H weapon. Very tough for a 30 - have to kill a 40 elite at the end, as well as elementals in Arathi Highland, and Trolls in STV.   Ashayo raiding Gruul & Mags. Actually won some nice gloves ; similar stats to existing gloves, but have 2 gem sockets as well.   Attunement to MC on 60 Mage with some guildies in prep for raid in a couple of weeks.   Planning on running Gnomeregan next week. Rushed Rogue from 20-25 in order to get Rig Wars quest for Triprunner Dungarees ; but wasn't being offered. Need to get that quest *before* you get Chief Engineer Scooty quest?!   Emails   Email 1   Hey guys!   Blade here... In response to my last email, and subsequent episodes of Ctrl Alt Wow... I'm continuing my thread on transformations... First... Aprillian and her druid toon... now that he's past lv10 and has a free teleport to Moonglade, it should be easy to get training... simply cast the spell, run to the trainer and then hearth back to whatever place you were in before... But... There IS a Druid trainer in Silvermoon City... look at the city map (press M)... see the little patch of green just about center on the map? There's a female druid there (the only one) and she happens to be a trainer... Oh... as a complete aside... I'm NOT in the Beta... just curious enough about the stuff I've been emailing about to make a point to learn some of the best ways to get or accomplish them...   Now... on to the topic of transformation... Specifically... Ashayo mentioned he's like to know how to get the Polymorph: Pig spell for his mage... Be ready... for it is a quest chain frought with peril the likes of which... Ahh... who am I kidding... it's actually pretty easy... At level 60, go to Archmage Xylem in Azshara, he'll have a quest called 'Warlord Krellian'... basically, the Archmage has sensed another source of magic (a Prismatic Shell) and wants YOU to go and get it (and of course kill the creature that has it)... Warlord Krellian is at 41,52 in a temple... if I remember correctly, he has a single guard and is a lv55... so not terribly difficult to kill solo... Take the shell back to the Archmage (the guy that was too lazy to go get the shell himself)... and he'll give you another quest... this time to TEST the shell's magic power... Carry the shell with you and polymorph the Spitelash Nagas that you will find at the ruins below the Archmage's tower... after a few seconds, some clones will spawn... they move FAST, so as soon as you see them, drop them with a Frost Nova or Arcane Explosion... AOE the little sheeplets... the shell will collect their essences... You can even use Arcane Explosion level1... the clones die THAT easily... After 50 essences (and the completion of the quest), go back to the Archmage and he teaches you the Polymorph: Pig spell. Yeah... it's THAT easy.   Oh... here's something to whet your appetite for the upcoming expansion... MORE Polymorph variations for Mages! Specifically... Endora Moorehead (an NPC in Dalaran) will sell the Tome of Polymorph: Snake and Tome of Polymorph: Black Cat for the low, low bargain price of only 2500g each!  Be wary, though... these are rep-dependent and will be of limited quantity... so hopefully they will be BoP items to stop people from simply buying them and dropping them onto the AH at a ridiculous markup... Also... for those that will take Inscription as a profession... there will be a Glyph that will alter your Polymorph spell to produce a Penguin instead of a Sheep!   And now I'll leave you with an easter egg (as always), a future mysterious topic... and a little extra cookie! First... the easter egg... In fact... I'll put in two... In Dire Maul North, when doing a tribute run, you are required to create an ogre suit to fool one of the guards. The quest requires you to get an Ogre Tannin out of a basket; once the tannin is removed, an ogre will run down the steps yelling "It puts the tannin in the basket, or else it gets the club again!" This is a reference to the movie 'Silence of the Lambs' during a scene involving the killer and his captive. If you're not old enough to have seen this movie... ask someone about it. (See? Ol' Blade can be PC when he needs to be...)   Also... there's a ring that drops (I think it's in the Scarlet Monastery)... it's a blue... binds on equip... has some +stamina and some +attack power... but what's REALLY noteworthy is it's name... Mark of Kern. Named after... the man... the legend... the World of Warcraft Team Lead... Mark Kern!   So... as promised... (not that the more astute among you can't do a little Armory-surfing and find out this information anyway...) I've decided to reveal my server - so that you can all come and say 'hi'! Come find me on Bladetusk (or do a /who of the guild I'm in and ask for me...) The Server?  Ghostlands The Guild?  Raiders of the Lost Orc   Next week?  A Paladin ranged weapon!   As always, an awesome podcast guys!   Blade / Michael   Email #2   Hey guys!   Auho here, I have to tell you guys it has finally happened after listening to CtrlAltWow since episode 11 I have finally started a second account. I have officially stared multi-boxing as off a week ago. So far most of the time i have been doing the refer a friend with my fiancée so we can get a few more characters up into the 60's before Wrath. As soon as we calm down on that though and school eases up some (second semester of my junior year in college) I planning on creating a paladin and a shaman. I really miss my level 70 alliance paladin ever since I left him to come play horde side and a shaman because that class has always fascinated me. If it wasn't for you guys I don't think i would of had the courage to try it. Also I listened to Aprillian's interview on on How I Wow, I thought that was a very entertaining show. I thought it was very interesting how she used to play the sims online because I remember seeing it in stores but never picking it up. Also a few weeks ago Aprillian mentioned she did two podcasts ever since I have been wondering what the other one was. I know that everyone that writes in says how great you guys are and I am going to say it also. I have 30ish podcast that i download every week and there are five that i listen to for sure and then i listen to the others if i have time. And at the top of that list is CtrlAltWow!! You guys are great and I look forward to hearing you every week!!!!   Your fan Auho level 70 druid Deathwing PVP US   PS Is Glanthur going to come back, and if so are you guys going to do a three person show. That would be awesome!!!   Email 3   Hi Guys, Love the show, been listening since the glanthor days, although i've never duel-boxed (untill recently, more of that later). So i've a few comments, suggestions and tips. I'll just list them and you can use them if you want. ARK INVENTORY I'm glad that both of use are using this mod, i've used it, tried others, and come back to it. I was catching up on an old episode in which Ashayo mentioned that he missed the organisation of his individual bags. You might have figured this out by now but there is an edit feature in the top right hand corner. When you click on this some numbers will appear, the number one will show all of your bag contents, numbers 2-5 will have nothing. Click on the number two and about half way down the options you will be able to set the parameters for that slot. For example you can set section 2 to food, drink and consumables. now you can exit the bags, when you reopen the bag it should be slit in to two sections, one with food, drink and consumables and the other with the rest of your goods. I normally have lots of sections, there is an option to add more slots so you can have 8 or 9 sections. I split them up as follows 1. Quest Items - nice if you need to find a quest item to click, or handy to clear out once in a while, i'm used to carring items for 12 or 20 items which have no use to me! 2. Soulbound items - keeps track of your gear, very helpful if you have two sets (healing/dps) and also nice when you complete a bunch of quests with soul bound rewards. 3. Non-soul bound things - when you hit the AH you can pop them up there without looking through your bags. 4. Food and Drink - anything that runs out, pots etc. mana gems for my mage. 5. Grey items - i dont use a auto sell mod so when i hit a vendor i can see what i have. Also nice if your bags are full and you need to pick up a green. 6. Crafting mats - depending on your professions. You can customise this the way you like. WOTLK I've been listening to what people have been saying about their approach to the WOTLK, i guess i have a different opinion. I dont have time to do the dailies and get lots of money, i'd rather spend the time leveling alts or doing other things. I'm really not sure that you will need a lot of money. I didnt start playing WOW untill after BC came out. But was it not true that at level 60 (before BC) it was pretty hard to get the 500g required for the epic land mount. and when BC came out the hike in money from drops and quests made it a lot easier to get this gold. I guess what i'm saying is that if someone spends hours and hours doing dailies and grinding for money, are they not wasting their time, because what if the new 'standard' amount of gold from a quest reward is 25g and the dailies are bringing in 50/60g a quest? Maybe i'm just hoping this will be the case, because i'm so poor. /cry. DUEL-BOXING With the refer a friend i've had to plunge in and try a little duel boxing, and for anyone who thinks they cant do this with out a high end computer you are wrong. I play on a low end lap top, granting sometimes i get lag and all the settings are low i still get by. Another thing that i've not heard mentioned is that you can try duel-boxing, refer-a-friend style, as a 7 day trial. I find it interesting listening about the different styles of duel boxing. Here is how i'm running my two toons. Warlock/priest combo, i chose these two because they have the pet and similar spells, dots and direct damage. I have been using key clone with some success. the first thing i did was use the setting on key clone to only clone the number keys, i set up a macro on the priest (the follower) which basically was a /follow farg (name of the warlock) and another as /assist farg. i bound this macro to 0 on the hot bar, and them i set up the spells so that similar spells were on the same numbers for each toons, ie instant dot on 4, direct damage with 1.5 second cast on 3, wand on 2. As i run into combat with the main toon i'll target something, hit 0 (which does nothing on the warlock but gets the priest to target the same mob. then i can cast my spells. if things go wrong i can always alt tab and get the heals going. once i'm done i hit 0 again and the 2nd toon follows. I thing that should do it for this e-mail. from Sealla (AIE), Farg, Bulli, Koichen, Hango, and many more! Email 4   Greetings Ashayo and  /wink Aprillian,   Just finished the brewfest episodes and it always amazes me how into the game y'all are.  The point of view each of you takes is very refreshing and reminds me of how I felt when I first started playing the game.   After a long day of grinding new teams (this time through questing and not boosting in instances) I decided I'd fix myself a sandwich. But what's this there was only an enough lunch meat left for one. How can this be, whatever shall I do? After spending about 3 minutes thinking about what else I was going to eat I realized that there is only one of me, and thus no need to feed myself 4 times. This thought shocked the hell out of me. Have I really been playing WoW and multi-boxing too much? Which I guess brings me to the main point of this email, when was the first moment y'all realized WoW had taken over your lives?   Later   Nsidious

Aprillian and Ashayo discuss another week of playing World of Warcraft, Blizzard's great MMORPG. Episode 81 - Brewfest Time, Drink Up Game Stop showed up on my iPhone caller ID and even before I saw this thread I answered "Oh WotLK Collector's Edition is ready for preorder! I was at work and with a customer and needed to get on and off the phone really quick. The Game Stop guy was like how did you know. I just said, I'll be there in an hour. I work across the street from the mall. I didn't bother to say, why else would Game Stop be calling me, to see how I'm doing? Check on my kids? Brewfest tickets can be converted into Brewfest coins, but you probably already know this. What We've Been Doing AprillianTrying to do as much of the class specific quests without asking where stuff is. Abandoning quests with wild abandon. Then for fun and relaxation played with Suyna and Primall and got them to 38 in STV.Wed morning went to UC with Mages to do Investigate the Alchemist Shop. I've decided I want to get all my current pairs to 30 so they can ride before I go back to my 38's. So I took my Belf 20 and Undead 15 to SFK and stopped to do their robe quest with the Dalaran mages. Got to the end of SFK and realzed Ardrion had two SFK quest, shared them with the mages and they were able to get the book. I figured I might run them through again. I also decided to make them both enchanters for the time being to de the greens they bop and then discard Thurs morning ran SFK again with the mages in Ardrion and got to then end and forgot to share the head quest with Weeaa who was now eligible. Friday decided to go to Blackfathom Deep. Found my cheat way to get to the back. I took severa diferent pairs, my mages and my druid 17 and warlock 18. I ran them with Treshel at first but then decided Ardrion would be okay. Sat morning I was all set to run BFD a few times and Blizzard thwarted me. Traded in my brewfest tickets from last year for tokens this year. Cute thing about WIM, it's persistent through alts log in and log out. WIM with Primall and Ashayo is in white but in same window as WIM with Ashayo and Aprillian, neat. Ashayo Jekle tried to PuG in Kara. Fail! Decided to run SFK on my warrior, but server reset. Fail! Gratz to BiP (Buffed and in Position) raid group for downing Mags two weeks running. Ventured into SSC afterward with them to practise killing the trash. Spent most of the week getting my mage to 58. Did most of the Un'goro quests in one evening (I remember spending days there!), then ventured to Felwood. To head to Outlands at 58 or not... Question: What decent quests / quest chains are there in Blasted Lands and Burning Steppes for Horde? Brewfest! Killed Coren Direbrew 8 times so far, and haven't seen mount drop Jekle got a nice healing trinket, and Ashield got a nice stamina trinket (and it summons a brewmaiden that throws beer at enemies!) Ashayo can still buy the ram mounts from Driz Tumblequick! Email Email 1 hey guys love the show, my names Groundbeaf level 60 tauren hunter in the great guild AIE, i've been double boxing for around a year now and just tried triple boxing instances when recruit a friend started. most of the time i stick to doubleboxing and have used the RAF feature to level alts on the horde side of things. before coming to AIE i had alliance toons of each class from the 60-70 range but fell in love with the horde and had to build my alt stable on earthen ring. since the RAF started i've doubleboxed a priest/warlock combo, & a druid/pally combo to 60 and working on a shammy/rogue which are 20 right now. when granting levels to my mage & hunter i noticed something some people might not have noticed. you want to make sure the alt you are granting levels on have a xp bar which is almost full and ready to level themselves, since granting levels does not effect this when you grant the level to this toon and make it 60 the toon will actually be a couple bars to 61 which is like getting a free level considering the XP jump once you hit 60. anyway hope this is something that might help some people, keep up the good work and hope to see you online sometime Groundbeaf HAIL AIE PM on Extralife Forums: Hi Asprillian, I just watched your pod cast on Crtl Alt Wow Podcast - Dual boxing. I loved it, however the game sound kinda drowned out lots of your info. I am really interested in dual boxing on my Macs but up till now have not been able to find enough sensible info on doing so. Your podcast seem to show me that your the best Person i have seen on the web to perhaps help me in my quest for dual-boxing. I have 3 Macs: 1) iMac 2.66 Ghz Intel Core Duo (4g Ram) 2) iMac 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 duo (4g Ram) 3) 2x3 Ghz Dual-Core Intel Xeon (4g Ram) Its a Tower. I currently use these machines to play 3 accounts in wow. However, using 3 keyboard 3 mice and 3 Nostromo n52te keypads, it gets a bit hectic and although I do a decent job i think what you are doing would be much more efficient for me than the method I am currently using. If you have the time I would love you to give me the knowledge you so obviously have ; ) , to enable me to do as you do, dual-boxing using multiple Macs in WoW. I heard you mention KVM in your podcast. I'm guessing this is hardware for controlling 2+ Macs. Thanks in advance for any help given ; ) BB Sent at: Sun Sep 21, 2008 12:16 pm
