Send me a message, how did you enjoy the show?In this episode, I dive into three of the most common mistakes triathlon coaches make—and how they can seriously impact your training, motivation, and results. As both a coach and someone who's been coached, I've seen firsthand how poor planning, lack of communication, and generic training plans can create unnecessary stress and stall progress. Whether you're an athlete wondering if your coaching support could be better—or a coach looking to up your game—this one's for you.
Want to race faster? Finish stronger? Stand on the podium? Tune into QT2's podcast series 10 Tips to Crush Your Next Triathlon. You've trained hard for the past few months, methodically following your training schedule, and now your A race is just weeks away. It's taper time! In this episode, Coach Tim talks all things taper. What is it? Why is it important? How does it impact race day performance? From a practical standpoint, what does a taper look like? Is it the same for all athletes, for all race distances? For an athlete with multiple races, how often should the athlete taper? With building fitness comes fatigue. Matt Dixon hosts the Purple Patch Podcast from the Hawaii IRONMAN training camp, featuring Susie Orcutt, a busy Mother and Physician's Assistant from Atlanta. Susie discusses her journey with Purple Patch, highlighting her coaching relationship with Nancy Clark and the challenges they faced initially. Susie emphasizes the importance of communication and trust in coaching, noting her significant improvements in performance, including winning her age group in an IRONMAN 70.3 and improving her rankings at the 70.3 World Championships. She also credits the team environment and the bike classes for her growth, particularly in bike handling and fueling strategies. Susie advises athletes to define their goals and be open to feedback clearly. Susie explains her decision to join Purple Patch after outgrowing her previous coaching relationship, focusing on longevity and avoiding injuries. Susie's journey involved multiple conversations with different coaches to find the right fit, emphasizing the importance of finding a coach who sees potential in her. Dixon explains how Pray and his focus on cycling and participation in the Purple Patch program has fueled his success and performance in triathlon and life. He emphasizes the importance of a high VO2 max for longevity and health, and how his training and social life are intertwined. Matt Dixon explains the importance of defining success and embracing the journey, emphasizing that athletes should not live to race but live through the process. Matt Dixon advises athletes to choose races that align with their strengths and weaknesses, rather than just selecting races based on location or convenience. He lists 10 common pitfalls that athletes make, starting with the check-the-box mindset and the obsession with outcomes. The episode concludes with a call to action for listeners to apply these lessons and engage with the Purple Patch community. I always find it fascinating how our passion can take on many forms and mean different things to us throughout our lives. I also believe you need to do things you want to do while you're healthy and while you can because the opportunity to do so may not always be there. So get out there and do what you love for as long as you can.On this episode of Just In Stride I shared a great conversation with former pro marathon and now coach, Rob Watson.Simply put, Rob was a pure talent and wanted to run fast. He ran in school and after, in pursuit of his Olympic dream. He never actually made an Olympic team but it certainly wasn't for a lack of trying. He ran huge mileage and went all in on his training, traveling to compete in order to make strides in his sport. He's won 4 national titles and qualified for a bunch of international competitions, including 2 world championships. Today he enjoys sharing his expertise and knowledge with others through coaching, in order to help athletes achieve their own goals.Rob Watson — Mile2Marathon CoachRob Watson (@robtalksrunning) • Instagram photos and videosRob talks Running | Podcast on Spotify-------Offer from Xact Nutrition: This episode is presented by our friends at Xact Nutrition and they are offering you 15% OFF your order when you use the code JUSTINSTRIDE. What a race. At the beginning of the year, I started noticing changes in my heart and mind. With Ironman 70.3 St. George and Ironman 70.3 Boulder already on my schedule, I knew these two races would close a 25-year chapter of chasing Ironman goals. After a disappointing race at Ironman 70.3 St. George, I realized I had my work cut out for me going into this last race.In the five weeks between the St. George race and Boulder, I focused not only on physical training but also on building mental fitness. The race I had on Saturday exceeded my expectations. With so many of my amazing friends and family lining the course, and combining a solid swim, bike, and run with proper nutrition and mental strength, I knew this race would be a tribute to what triathlon has meant to me and how it has shaped me into the person I am today.During the second part of the run, euphoria set in, and I realized I may never experience a race like that again. I thank my lucky stars, my angel mama, my Father in Heaven, and all those who sent me their love and energy. We often don't realize that what we do can inspire others, but I know I've been inspired countless times by watching others' athleticism. If you're looking to reach the next level in something and see how it can transform and uplift your life, this could be the perfect episode for you. Today, we're diving into the world of transformation, resilience, and the power of what endurance sports can do to somebody's life. From the icy rinks of collegiate hockey, to the grueling distances of Ironman Triathlon, our guest has navigated the waters of addiction and emerged not just as a competitor, but as a coach and as a guide to others. His journey is a testament to the human spirit's capacity to overcome and find purpose through adversity. He's now a remarkable coach, and a lead triathlete, and founder of several business and clubs, including Peak Triathlon Coaching, Peak Recovery and Health Center, Top Gunz Elite Tri Team, and NorthEast Multisport. He's also the host of the Age Grouper For Life Podcast. He's competed in 19 Ironmans including 6 current Ironman World Champs, and has won the overall age group titles at numerous events. Welcome to The Greg Bennett Show, Colin Cook.
Since we started the podcast, I've introduced many of the UK triathlon legends, ranging from our Olympic champions to coaches who helped them there, and the folks who were around right at the start of triathlon in the UK. Today's guest, Mark Kleanthous, competed in UK triathlons since the very first event in June 1983. And he has kept on going for 41 consecutive years. Completing an impressive 535 triathlons in more than 20 countries, including finishing the Hawaii Ironman World Championships, as well as 48 Iron distance, double Iron, and 1 x triple Iron triathlon. Mark has also finished 71 marathons under 3 hours. Over the last 41 triathlon seasons Mark has calculated that he's covered more than 12,000 miles swimming, 198,000 miles cycling, and has run more than 61,000 miles (totalling 271,000 miles) in training and racing. That's more than 11 times the distance around the world, or more than the distance to the moon! In this conversation we chat about: Keeping calm under stress, and problem solving How he still gets satisfaction from each event Why pacing gets better with age The secret to Mark's athletic resilience and longevity Mark the Innovator - homemade elastic laces & aero water bottles To find out more about Mark K please visit the following channels: Triathlon Coaching website Ironmate- Triathlon information website Instagram: openwaterswimcoaching & ironmate_coaching Twitter X: @ironmatemark Face Book Mark Kleanthous LinkedIn Mark Kleanthous Some videos you might be interested in watching: Mark's highest elevation and coldest triathlon: Ironman Lake Tahoe 2013, bike had 9,000 feet of climbing 30 Years of Triathlon t-shirts. Reflecting on nearly four years of podcasting, launching Kami Banks coaching, initiating Team Elevate, and navigating through various highs and lows in relationships and personal growth, especially after a significant ski accident, has been an incredible journey. Throughout this time, I've garnered invaluable lessons that have transformed me from the inside out.One of the most pivotal lessons I've learned is the art of pausing – cultivating emotional agility and mastering the ability to respond rather than react impulsively. This shift in perspective has been monumental, worth every ounce of effort, perseverance, and even tears shed along the way. Embracing discomfort and refusing to succumb to adversity has been another crucial lesson.I also take a moment to express my gratitude to all who have tuned in and provided unwavering support, empowering me to show up week after week, striving to evolve and elevate. It's a journey that underscores the possibility for anyone, even the "average girl," to elevate their life. Even though my mom never had the chance to listen to a single one of my podcast episodes while she was alive, it's her legacy and spirit that fuel the essence of this journey. In her honor and as a tribute to her, I embarked on this path, carrying forward the messages she imparted to me. Each episode is a testament to her wisdom and love, a continuation of the passion she instilled in me.While her physical presence may be absent, her spirit resonates in every word spoken, every lesson shared. This podcast is not just my endeavor; it's a collaboration between her heart and mine, a bridge connecting past and present. Through this platform, her legacy lives on, and her influence continues to shape lives, including my own.So, as I celebrate this milestone, I do so with gratitude for the foundation she laid and the values she instilled. Her presence may be missed, but her impact remains profound, echoing through every episode and guiding me as I navigate the journey ahead.Ready to simplify and enhance your health journey? Join us on Team Elevate!
