Or, if you are curious about what goes on behind closed doors in a police family. There is so much good information here, I had to split this up into two episodes. Joe threatened to withhold a billion dollars in aide to the country, despite him not having the power to do so, and the Ukrainian government chose to fire Shokin due to “corruption”, despite him having a record as clean as a whistle. 330 - We return to the Biden corruption scandal as the second part of the Tucker Carlson interview with Devon Archer and we listen to an interesting nugget from the sit down. We also get a report from our official in-house economist, E.J. Antoni.  340 - Where do GOP candidates stand against Trump? DeSantis still isn't looking good despite the third indictment. 350 - RFK Jr. is going after censorship claims. Will Trump be on the debate stage on August 23rd?  4 - We kick this second hour of with a smorgasbord of topics including audio, Kamala word salad, the mask police, Kevin McCarthy going after a reporter, as well as what this Trump indictment means for this country.  430 - Dr. Victoria Coates joins the program with her new official title! Rich discusses the issues in Kabul, where we may have a partnership with… The Taliban? They also discuss the uprising in Niger where we are losing valuable intelligence centers stationed there. But, there has been a PRC invasion into the Navy as two spies were caught relaying information back to China. How do we prevent leaks like these? Rich and Victoria share a love for a mutual friend. Next up, are Israel-US relations and how Biden has reversed course on all the progress made in the Israel-Palestine war, despite major losses from both sides. Has Dr. Coates seen Oppenheimer? What does she think about the Phillies?  5 - Drive @ 5 - Let's end the week on a high note with Dr. Wilfred Reilly. They start with his new piece in National Review, ‘Not Everyone Who Lived The Day Before Yesterday Was Evil'. He details how standards change over time and to assume everyone in the past is evil because you're judging them by our standards, instead of using historical context. Then they move to talking the changing curriculum in Florida, with the left calling it racist despite the teachings being completely factual according to historians and being used by every other state. These race stories are almost always revealed as a hoax, but the damage is already done by viewers who see it and internalize it. It's not like there aren't atrocities being committed today that will be judged harshly in the future, the difference being you don't know they are atrocities in the moment. Our morality is not that great, and it's time we stop acting like it is. What does Wilfred think about Barbie? They then move to the fuss over climate change. 540 - The gang discusses movies, reusing intellectual property, and suggestions on what to watch.  6 - The final hour kicks off with a birthday shoutout to Mama Zeoli! We then move to play some audio from Pelosi spewing nonsense, Biden's bad economy, Kamala's word salad,  620 - Lee Fang joins the show to discuss police reform and what studies have shown works for police and how Atlanta's police academy is trying to use those tactics, but protestors on the left have threatened the city with Molotov cocktails and incendiary devices. They don't want police violence, but they don't want police reform either, so what are they doing? They then move to the de-escalation tactics used in Newark, which reduced their police shootings to ZERO last year. But instead of using this as a victory for reform, the left turns a blind eye.  640 - The Great One gave his advice to Trump, and he actually accepted it! Rich then moves to the possible indictment over election fraud in Georgia. So you have a county prosecutor going after Trump for speaking with the state governor that he was short votes.  650 - Where do Republicans, including Christie, stand in polling?

Bart Ehrman claims that the Gospels are anonymous because the names attached to them are too convenient and were added a century later, and because the disciples of Jesus were too illiterate to write such exquisite Greek texts. Has Dr. Ehrman overstated the case? This episode is in response to the comments that critical New Testament scholar Bart Ehrman has made in writing and to interviewers, such as in the video highlighted in our episode: Bart Ehrman on the Bible's Authors ( https://youtu.be/pDfYA21lDic ). Today's Takeaway with Florine Mark
How Our Need To Belong Defines Us

Today's Takeaway with Florine Mark

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 14, 2022 39:47

With Dr. Geoffrey L. Cohen, Stanford Professor and Author of the book, “Belonging”   One of our most fundamental human needs is feeling a connection with others to avoid feeling lonely and isolated. As social creatures, our need to bond and connect with others is an important part of our basic survival instinct. History shows that being a part of a group is not only important for our continued survival but accomplishing tasks is far easier with the aid of others. When we think of a group we tend to think of large organizations with many members, but in reality, a group can be as small as two people. When the group comes together, there's an understanding that all the needs of the group will be protected and confidences maintained. We take comfort in knowing we belong and we're valued.   Today we are speaking with Stanford University professor and author Dr. Geoffrey L. Cohen. His new book, “Belonging,The Science of Creating Connection and Bridging Divides” studies our fundamental desire to belong and how our perception of group membership can impact our sense of security along with our mental and emotional well-being.   What You'll Hear on This Episode: Why is the need to belong so fundamental to humans? Has Dr. Cohen ever felt left out of a group? Why “stigmas” are often what lead to excluding people. What inspired Dr. Cohen to write the book Belonging? Did Dr. Cohen become a professor due to his need to belong? What are some tools to get over being too self-critical? Why perception, mindset, and attitude can really shape experiences. What role do media and social media play in how we view ourselves? Why does anxiety seem to be on the rise? What does being excluded do to an individual? What is stereotyping? Why is empathy so important yet challenging?   Today's Takeaway: From the time we are school-aged children and throughout our entire lives, whether we are at home, work, or within our communities, the need to feel seen and heard is critical to our emotional development and mental health. Belonging to a group combats feelings of isolation and loneliness. Therefore, the fear of being rejected or excluded from that group can be one of the most alarming and painful life experiences. Being accepted by a particular group not only validates us as individuals, but we also feel a sense of connection and security. Sometimes we will go to great lengths to stay part of a group even if the group culture is at odds with our personal beliefs. For example, think of all the stories of young, naive college freshmen that pledge a sorority or fraternity and put themselves in harm's way with excessive and dangerous alcohol consumption. They do so simply because of their deep-rooted desire to be accepted by their peers. Just as we desire to be perceived as members of a particular group, we may be equally determined to keep others out of that group. Whether an “us vs. them” mindset stems from feeling threatened or a perception that resources are scarce, many problems in society come from our inability to see others as individuals. Instead, we ostracize an entire group and choose to align ourselves against them. Giving another person the opportunity to feel seen and heard is a gift. As we heard, it's important to empathize and communicate in a way that invites cooperation. Instead of alienating others, we can give them the gift of acceptance by allowing them to feel included and by respecting them as individuals. Remember that every day is a gift. Be good to yourself and be good to those around you. I'm Florine Mark and that's “Today's Takeaway.”   Quotes: “The need to belong is important for humans as a social species because we just can't go at it alone.” — Dr. Cohen “Built into our DNA is a need to connect.” — Dr. Cohen “Together, collaborating in common purpose, we can change the world.” — Dr. Cohen “The thing about belonging that's very interesting is it's so situational.” — Dr. Cohen “Your mental prism is your prison.” — Dr. Cohen “Perception is so, so powerful.” — Dr. Cohen “Our mindsets shape our experience.” — Dr. Cohen “I believe that anxiety is often, as a lot of research has demonstrated, comes out of feeling disconnected, alone.” — Dr. Cohen “One of the most nerve-wracking messages our central nervous system can send to the rest of our body is, ‘You are alone.'” — Dr. Cohen “We are evolved to be together.” — Dr. Cohen “When people feel, especially chronically lonely, it ratchets up the threat system.” — Dr. Cohen “Yeah, empathy is a good thing but how you do it, the techniques, often matter a lot more than we think.” — Dr. Cohen   Brought to You By: Gardner White Furniture   Mentioned in This Episode: Purchase Belonging by Dr. Geoffrey L. Minoan Origins | DNA by Dr. Peter Revesz The Minoan civilization flourished in the Middle Bronze Age on the island of Crete located in the eastern Mediterranean from c. 2000 BCE until c. 1500 BCE. With their unique art and architecture, and the spread of their ideas through contact with other cultures across the Aegean, the Minoans made a significant contribution to the development of Western European civilization as it is known today. In this episode we go back to a time before civilization. A time of mass migration. This episode sets out to explore the Minoan Origins from different viewpoints. Firstly, we explore traditional narratives and especially what they got wrong. And then we approach Ancient DNA, Art motifs, Vowel harmony, Script similarity, Etymology and finally Translations. Has Dr. Revesz deciphered Linear A Script and how has his work been accepted? As we conclude Dr. Revesz believes his data analysis lead to the conclusion that we need to separate the Minoans into two groups: the Early Minoans and the Middle Minoans.(The Late Minoans could be a third group, but there is no archaeogenetic data about them.) Earlier studies have not separated these groups, which have different origins. The Early Minoans came from Anatolia, while the Middle Minoans came from the Danube Basin. (Sailing from the Danube Delta to Crete is quite possible via the Bosporus Strait.) But what are your thoughts? 2020 was a doozy but the silver lining to it was that it really was this incredible opportunity for all of us to build resilience — resilience both psychologically and physiologically.   But what does resilience really mean? And not as this esoteric, beautiful quote on Instagram; but in real life. What are the tools one would need to deploy in their own life so that when tragedy strikes they have the capacity to handle it on a physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual level? How do we build resilience into our lives so that it's available to us when we need it most? How do we strengthen our resilience in order to come out of situations seeing the silver lining, the lessons, and being able to integrate that experience in a healthy way?   Joining me to answer all of these questions is Dr. Tara Guzzo; a Naturopathic Doctor, friend, and expert on the idea of resilience! In our conversation together, Dr. Tara shares a really compelling story of how her own need to overcome and integrate resilience led to the starting point of building out an incredible approach to resilience in her own practice. Not only does she share tips for building and strengthening resilience, but we also get into biohacking, mindset practices, and much, much more! I can't wait for you to join us!   Key Takeaways: [1:13] About today's episode with Dr. Tara Guzzo! [3:10] Welcoming Dr. Tara to the podcast! Or did this experience shift her perspective in understanding this in a completely new way? [9:37] Dr. Tara's definition of what physical and emotional resilience is and looks like. [10:15] How do we build resilience in the absence of trauma? [13:05] What is the “reward” for putting in the work for building resilience? [14:52] Are men more resilient than women? [15:19] Why is Dr. Tara so passionate about exploring resilience in women in particular? [17:26] Dr. Tara provides practical strategies that you can use in the moment to build resilience, strengthen resilience, and be resilient. [22:09] What good physiological resilience looks like. [23:23] Markers that Dr. Tara looks for as a clinician to determine if someone has good or poor physiological resilience. [24:29] Has Dr. Tara ever leveraged continuous glucose monitoring for looking at resilience? [25:55] Heart rate variability and the abundance of research behind this marker as an indicator of resilience in the body. [28:32] What Dr. Tara has seen in her practice as being highly effective in raising the HRV scores of her patients. [31:03] Tangible tips and habits you can implement today that will move the needle on your resilience and HRV scores. [33:30] Dr. Tara's key performance indicators! Many of the attendees at Red Pill didn't even know what the Federal Reserve even was. They were in the right place to learn. With the exception of one or two outliers there was no wearing of any masks at Red Pill Expo, nor was there any fear of contracting any virus. It was a momentous display of Freedom with over 600 in attendance on short notice. Contrary to the Freedom and Enlightenment of Red Pill Expo Tim took notice to the amount of "mask up" signs littered across the United States as he made his way to the Expo. A propagandist fear campaign if you had ever saw one.  Changing topics, Tim and Earnest discuss some politics. Has Dr. Shiva wised up to how politics really works too late in his political career? 175: Body: How Neurofeedback Can Augment Your Brain Without Drugs or Supplementation with Dr. Michelle Presniak

The Entrepology Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 30, 2020 49:20

EDITORIAL AMENDMENT: at 4:28, Meghan refer's to Dr. Michelle Presniak as a Brain Expert. While Dr. Presniak has a high degree of experience in this area, regulatory considerations in Ontario prohibit the use of the term expert. We apologize for any confusion this may have created As many of you know, one of the key things that I focused on in my own clinical practice was the health of entrepreneurs and go-getters. In addressing their health, we first worked on restoring pre-existing issues; next, we focused on health optimization; then, we ultimately focused on optimizing the functionality of one's brain. And while we had a tremendous assortment of tools at our disposal in order to make that happen, my guest today is discussing one that I had ZERO exposure to in my own practice!   Dr. Michelle Presniak is a Clinical Psychologist. Her particular focus is around the utilization of neurofeedback to help individuals move to their next level with respect to their brain health. She works with individuals who are managing depression and anxiety, as well as those who are looking to optimize their brain health by providing them with the feedback that they need to begin moving the neuroplasticity of their brain to get them to that next level.   Now, if this sounds like something you really have no clue about… then that makes you and me both! This interview answered so many questions for me regarding what neurofeedback is able to provide and how it can help in so many unique scenarios. I learned about how we can move the needle on brain health, anxiety and depression, and more.   Whether you are looking to manage a situation or simply optimize the health of your own brain, I promise you, this conversation is going to be a compelling one for you!   Key Takeaways: [1:55] About today's episode with Dr. Michelle Presniak! [3:55] Welcoming Dr. Presniak to the podcast! [4:37] Michelle shares about her background as a Clinical Psychologist and why she has focused so heavily on brain health optimization and neurofeedback. [8:40] What is neurofeedback? How does it work? And what does the process of obtaining neurofeedback from clients look like? [12:38] When Dr. Presniak is using neurofeedback and working with patients who have experienced trauma, are they trying to build our new neural pathways, or are they trying to disconnect some of the associations they had with their trauma? Or is it something else entirely? [14:11] How neurofeedback actually works from a physiological and anatomical level to facilitate changes within a patient's brain. [16:02] When Dr. Presniak is working with a client and has the opportunity to do neurofeedback, is she looking at a situation where she would be able to accelerate what could happen with talk therapy alone (i.e. they are working in conjunction with each other)? Or, is the neurofeedback used as a completely independent modality? [18:00] For those with anxiety or depression, what can one expect in terms of a timeline of change? Or, is it a kind of treatment or support that one can expect to be engaged with indefinitely or for a long period of time? [21:09] If children are given neurofeedback early in life, are they able to adapt much quicker than adults? What does this impact look like? How does it differ from the results they see with adults? [22:25] Michelle shares her own journey and experience with neurofeedback and how it has helped her. [24:24] In regard to this notion of increasing performance through neurofeedback, is it a matter of having more awareness and changing your behavior in response to your brain's overactivity? Or, is it because you've increased the capacity of the brain in some way? [26:21] How neurofeedback gives us more awareness around the subconscious learning our brains do. [27:40] What happens for those who have a nondescript experience such as brain fog? Is it something people have reported changes on? [30:07] Michelle explains how everything is connected to the brain and further addresses the causes behind brain fog. [32:24] Michelle speaks about a common profile she often sees among women: the burnt-out brain profile. [33:45] Your brain's influence on sleep. [35:49] Has Dr. Presniak seen an influence on chronic pain through neurofeedback? [39:12] Michelle speaks about the initial assessment process when a client begins neurofeedback and the client's overall experience getting neurofeedback. [40:44] Discussing the profound impact that neurofeedback has on people. [43:40] About Fullscript, your solution for connecting with patients and dispensing supplements, all from one platform! [44:57] Michelle's key performance indicators! He's the founder of the field of Darwinian Consumption. He was an Associate Editor of Evolutionary Psychology (2012-2015) and of Customer Needs and Solutions (2014- ). He's been the recipient of several awards, and he's also a prolific writer, a popular blogger for Psychology Today, and the author of three books, including The Evolutionary Bases of Consumption. In this episode, we start off by talking about some of the main subjects covered by Dr. Saad's work. First, I ask him to tell us why he decided to apply evolutionary theory to consumer behavior. We then move on to talk about cultural artifacts as fossils of the human mind, the four great cognitive pillars of consumer behavior, and why some people have addictive behaviors. After I ask him if he has sold his soul to the capitalist devil, we talk about the many ways intellectual terrorists try to butcher evolutionary psychology, the entire field of Psychology, and even science itself as an intellectual enterprise.
