How do the Gospel writers introduce Jesus? The question of where to begin recounting the world's greatest narrative with an eternal back story would be a daunting task indeed. All 4 gospels begin in different ways providing a multi-faceted perspective on the greatest eventsI n history. The Gospel authors were keenly aware of the significance of the historical timing of the incarnation Just as Gene noted from Paul's letter to the Romans last sermon( Rom 5:6)" At the right time Christ died for the ungodly". In today's message we will seek to glean more insight on the timing of the incubation from the vantage point of four Spirit inspired witnesses.
(Gen 3:15 & others scriptures). The Old Testament leaves us with many unfulfilled prophecies, unexplained sacrifices, and unfulfilled longings. But when we turn to the New Testament, we find that it is Jesus who fulfills the prophecies, explains the sacrifices and satisfies those longings. The Old Testament says “someone is coming” and the Gospels open, […]

This week I am so excited to share my conversation with Luke Timm and John Timm, two cousins who have a shared passion for mental health and the New York nightlife. I connected with John back in 2022 after he came across an episode I did on the Mental Matchup podcast. He had just started a mental health non-profit, No Man Sits Alone, and we chatted about ways we could collaborate. Fast forward two years, and I see that his cousin has gone viral on social media for being the "hot bouncer" of New York City. In this episode, Luke and John share their respective stories dealing with mental health and addiction challenges. They then discuss how they prioritize their wellness while working for two NYC bars, 82 Stanton and 310 Bowery. Luke is also sober, so he talks about what it's like working at a bar while not drinking alcohol. I had such a pleasure recording with these two cousins. Make sure to follow @luketimm and @johntimmjr on Instagram to stay updated with events they host at their two venues! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/zoescurletis/support
Thank you for joining us as Ps Aaron unpacks the Opportunities element of our focus this year, ‘Love is on the Move'To dig deeper, read Luke John 4:5-19, 25-35This interaction between Jesus and the Samaritan woman shows us that our calling is found in everyday opportunities. Simple opportunities that have the potential for profound impact. By following Jesus' example we too can learn to lean into these divine opportunities. First, we must hold the conviction that wherever we are God is up to something, either in you or in someone else. Our job is to have faith, pay attention and be ready to obey. Second, opportunities are not without obstacles. Jesus is willing to go to extraordinary lengths and cross all kinds of barriers to minister to those in need.At the end of this interaction, Jesus quotes a proverb, ""Don't you have a saying, 'It's still four months until harvest'? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest"". The point of citing the proverb is to contrast it with what is happening now. Jesus has come, something is happening in our world and to our world, the waiting time is over, the time of harvest has arrived! The time of "opportunity" is now here. That "something" that is happening is resurrection. Resurrection isn't just contained to one moment in time, it continues to happen to our world and to your life. Therefore, we can be confident that we all have opportunities in our day where God wants to move in and through us.Resurrection life is at work to re-order everything around a new centre. Giving birth to new priorities, a new pace, a new posture, and new passions. It is this re-ordering that readies us for Kingdom opportunities. Paul describes it like this; ""To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me"" (Colossians 1:29). I wonder how much of world gets changed when this is how we pursue the opportunities in our life. If we would strenuously contend in prayer. Strenuously contend in practice. Strenuously contend in allowing love to be on the move.Reflection Questions1. In my everyday life am I seeing obstacles or opportunities?2. Is my pace, priorities, posture and passion centred around Jesus? 3. Read 2 Corinthians 5:14-15. What does it look like for you to live compelled by love? What change would you expect to see in your life and in the lives of those around vou? 4. Spend time praying for eyes to see, ears to hear and hearts ready to respond to the opportunities God wants to give you this week. Thanks again for joining us. Unlike the Synoptic Gospels—Matthew, Mark, and Luke—John uniquely focuses on the theological and spiritual dimensions of Jesus' life and ministry. From Jesus' divine identity and the necessity of spiritual rebirth to His profound "I am" statements and dramatic encounters, John's Gospel offers deep insights into salvation, eternal life, and the relationship between the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Adventurous Living - The Meadow Springs Community Church Podcast
We welcomed John Flores from Westside Christian High School this week! He taught through the book of Luke as we continued our dive into the New Testament and specifically, the gospel writers.
In this sermon John continues our ongoing sermon series called "According to Luke". In this series we will be exploring the Gospel of Luke, exploring who Jesus is.
In Theography, a theological biography of Jesus, we will get to know Jesus in a new and fresh way. On this episode we look at the accounts of Jesus' Passion and Death.
Lucas, Rob, and Shap start their Exit Interview Series with a bunch of guards. The guys first talk a little bit about the ongoing playoffs before diving in their thoughts about guards that are no longer on the team in fan favorite Reggie Jackson, sniper Luke Kennard, and bust John Wall. The guys then finish off talking about the futures of G-League standouts Xavier Moon and Jason Preston.
It's as if God knew that unbelieving Man would do everything he could to disprove the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. Hence He gave us four accounts of it through the eyes of four different characters - Matthew, Mark, Luke & John. We note the variations in their accounts but all are in accord with the astonishing fact - that Jesus had risen from the dead. In our courts of law, witnesses of the crime are worth their weight in gold - especially when there are a number. So God made sure that we have the personal accounts of many witnesses who saw Jesus, talked with Him, ate with Him - up to 500! That's very strong proof in any court of law! One other remarkable feature of Jesus' appearances is that initially His disciples didn't believe He had risen - they had to be convinced - like Thomas! They should have believed because Jesus had repeatedly told them that “the Son of man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men. They will kill Him & on the.. Preacher: Ross Patterson
I know that you are #Tired, I know that your current battles do not add up to your vision from God, but you're going to make it. Tune in and encourage yourself in the Lord. References: Joseph's Battle:Genesis 37, David's battle 1 Samuel 17, Jesus's battles: Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.
Jesus was in constant communication with His father and prayed for His followers and for those who were still wandering far from God. We can live with an intimate connection with God. As we grow in this spiritual marker, we will find ourselves praying for others.
Herod has thrown John the Baptist into prison. Messengers come to him in the prison. They relay to him all that Jesus has been doing. Specifically, they tell him about a funeral procession where Jesus sees the widow who has lost her son. His heart fills with compassion. He tells the young man to get up! The son rises from the dead and goes back with his mother. After hearing this, John asks them to go ask Jesus if He's the Messiah, or if they should expect someone else. The messengers arrive where Jesus is sleeping and ask Him what John wants to know.
This podcast goes over the similarities and differences in the 4 New Testament gospels- Matthew, Mark, Luke & John. They were written to different audiences and had different emphasis so listen to see what God's inspirational goals were with these authors.

The LOVE of God is a prominent theme in the four Gospels – Matthew, Mark, Luke & John, but it is His POWER, that's the strong theme in the Book of Acts. In this episode, Shirley takes a spiritual look at the culture and world. She offers her perspective concerning the Believer's leadership role as catalyst for Biblical outcomes that impact both the culture and world with God's love and power. Key Scripture: 1 Kings 18:4 Matthew 7:28-29 Luke 3:1-2 Proverbs 21:1 Isaiah 9:6-7 Colossians 1:12-13, 16 Psalm 2:2-12 __ On Running With Horses, we take a spiritual look at the culture and world, as we see it, and the Believer's leadership role as catalysts for Biblical outcomes that impact with God's love. Perhaps no books have been more influential in world history than those contained in the Christian New Testament. At the heart of this influence is a story about a man, Jesus. Four authors write about the 'good news' he brings, or his Gospel. This week, The Good Fight takes a look at two of these Gospel stories, perhaps the two more unique among the four: Luke and John. These two are particularly unique in how they relate to Gentile (non-Jewish) culture, as Luke adopts a methodology akin to history and John dives into Hellenistic philosophy.
Yesterday, Mike started our new sermon series in the Gospel of Luke, as we spend the coming months looking at the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. We start with John the Baptist, the man who was called to prepare the way for the coming messiah. John was certainly an interesting character, with a heart to bring all people back to God, and ultimately introduce them to Jesus.

Matthew, Mark, Luke & John all agree after the had the last supper in the upper room they all left and head to the the Garden of Gethsemane. And John; though he did not write about Tuesday nor Wednesday; he's the only one to write about what Jesus did and said on the way to the Garden. And I thank John because what HE WROTE gave me a renewed faith in Jesus. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/streetdisciples/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/streetdisciples/support

FCCPH Sunday Message 1-17-21
Growing up Jewish in a Christian World.
6 December 2020 - 11am ServiceChristmas at Woodlands Church: Light in the DarknessThis Sunday we started our new Christmas Series with a talk from Matt Dobson on ‘Light in the Darkness.’ Our 11am services will be live-streamed online until January. We hope you enjoy Christmas with us!Remember, our 7pm service is also looking at this topic, and Matt Dobson will be sharing with us. Check it out!STUDY NOTESThe four gospels each give a particular perspective on the life of Jesus. Unlike Matthew and Luke John’s gospel doesn’t give a nativity account. His gospel starts with the perspective of the eternal relationship between God and the Word, or as we understand that, the Father and the Son. The incarnation is introduced in those terms ‘the Word became flesh’ so we have no doubt that the Jesus we worship is also divine.Big idea: The word becoming flesh speaks of a ‘divine humility’ which is staggering! Is your view of God big enough to grasp the immensity of this act?In what way are human beings ‘in darkness’? Is that true for our present age as well as 1st Century Palestine? How is the darkness affected by Jesus becoming human? Why did so many of the highly religious, biblically educated people of Jesus time fail to recognise Him?Jesus ‘incarnate’ reveals to us exactly what God is like, (e.g. that God can self-limit, embrace suffering, allow his will not to be done for the sake of giving us the opportunity to freely turn to him and know him). How does your understanding of Go and relationship with Him resonate with those truths?Jesus once said to his followers ‘You are the light of the World’. How can we be that light today? Jesus commissioned his followers (e.g. Paul in Acts 26) to call people from darkness to light. Ask God to show you how you can point people to Jesus this Christmas.
Maybe this would have made a better Halloween episode, but this week is all about the macabre Viking ritual known as the "Blood Eagle," as made famous in the show Vikings. Luke John Murphy has been researching the historical and practical sides of the ritual and has come on the show to share his findings with Mathias and Daniel.Surprisingly Daniel seems to have an amazing intuitive understanding of the medical science behind cracking open someone's ribcage, to the point that it would be worrying if he wasn't such a nice guy. Luke was an amazing guest so please consider heading over to his website and checking out some of his other academic papers. The one about English hair goddesses sounds particularly fun.You can find that paper and many more at: luke-murphy.comAlso the issues with Mathias's sound are unfortunately ongoing. The problem isn't with actual equipment it's his internet connection. That's what he gets for living deep in the mountains. Anyway we are working on a solution and appreciate your patience. That's it for this week! Although technically this is not a 'Fringe' episode, how many of you are frustrated with churches/pastors being more about money? Well, this is your listen. Some call it the 'Prosperity Gospel' and it draws in many and pushes away many. Here you go...Heck, my wife and I don't agree on everything. I do take his words seriously and I will further vett this. Just know it is okay to question. Faith does not exist without doubt. May a pastor never be considered greater than Jesus. May a building never become greater than the Bible. You heard me say it before, if you are looking for a church or a new podcast or mentor, my recommendation is the following: God/Jesus centered. Bible centered: Genesis through Revelation. Primary focus is on Loving God and Loving Others. Jesus' top two commands. If they are all about money, look out. I thought both Casey and Rick made great points. Jesus first. Yet Rick astutely mentioned certain churches grab Jesus and then add 1,000 hoops to it - like the Mormons or Jehova Witnesses or name your next cult. Some of you react, that isn't very loving. You ask my mormon friends, I love them. Ask my atheist friends, I love them. Ask HotRod in which he is a huge fan of other preachers that aren't my cup of tea, I love him. Ask HotRod about Rick Warren being my favorite teacher and one of his least, he still loves and cares about me. May we never put any man or woman or thing above Jesus and our Heavenly Father. That would be commandment #1. #2 You love others, even the ones in which you disgree. If you must share where you disagree, best to do it in a loving, factual, truthful way. Then be prepared to love them whether they agree with you or not. I love Casey's words about praying for those that you disagree. Very wise. Jesus tells us to do exactly that. I pray for my mormon friends. When they challenge me, I'm ready. In a loving way I've told them, I love it that you have Jesus involved. I don't like it that Joseph Smith added a 1,000 hoops back on top of Jesus saying that is what is needed to go to heaven. For those buying into that, I love you and I believe that is a lie. Jesus words are enough for me. Jesus came to take the silly hoops away. Jesus came to correct churches not to be all about money and even flipped over their tables. Mormons, Jehohav, fill in the blank, you show me where in Jesus' words he says that he's not enough. Jesus flat out said, "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, nobody comes to the Father except by me. Check out John 14:6. You don't need a new age prophet or pastor that works in Jesus yet redefines the rules on what it takes to get to heaven. That's a major flag. Of course I encourage you to read. Matt, Mark, Luke John, read Jesus words' for yourself and then judge for yourself. Don't take my words for it. I'm not Jesus. I look up to Jesus to answer these tough questions. That is the Truth Ruth!Whew! Seriously lifting today. As you know, I'm not afraid to land on a secular song. Rule alert! Haha! I do love picking a secular song that helps put an issue into focus. Helps, you, me and perhaps a church and pastor to look in the mirror. Are you all about money? This is "Money" by Pink Floyd. If you dig, give them some love, add it to your playlist and may it from now on be a reminder to question a church's intention with money and also your heart for where to properly give to those truly in need and/or doing great works...now, go, read, search for Truth and Love...
The event only seems different but it's already been lived...
Beloved, have you been receiving results in your prayers? If NO. Read Mathew, Mark, Luke John and see how Jesus prayed and had tremendous results that even His disciples were amazed at His results, till they had to ask Him to teach them how to pray effectively Which He did. Effective prayer is your key to the next level and real results. Pray! Pray!Pray!Hallelujah.Glory be to God. Stay Connected. SUBSCRIBE LIKE COMMENT &SHARE
Well, this is it. After an extensive study of the Life of Christ in which we went chronologically through every step, every word, every miracle, every event of His life as recorded in all four gospel accounts (a study that took 12 years), we come to "The Grand Finale". In this Part I look at the final verses of Matthew, Mark, and Luke (John was concluded in Lesson 192 called "Peter's Public Restoration"), we discuss Christ's final post-resurrection appearances to believers, His final commissioning statement to them, and (in Part II) His incredible, visible Ascension back to Heaven. In the Lord's eighth post-resurrection appearance (upon a Galilean mountain), He appeared before more than 500 believers (I Corinthians 15:6), whose reaction was to worship Him (Matthew 28:17). In this lesson, we discuss the Lord's "Great Commission". Christianity is not (contrary to what some seem to believe) an entertainment faith. Nor is it a fellowship faith or a service-projects' faith. Christianity is a missionary faith! Everyone of us who call ourselves "Christian" are commissioned to "GO" forth with the Gospel message, sowing its seed, and teaching any and all who will listen! Amen.

Shame affects all of us. We all experience it, but we may handle it differently. Some of us look to work or exercise to cope with our deep feelings of shame. Others find other ways to hide it. But there is a solution to our shame problem, and it is found in the gospel of Jesus Christ. Kristyn Perez enriches our conversation on this heavy topic. She reminds us that Christ offers us wholeness and a place where our strivings can cease. He bore our shame on the cross, and He is able to destroy the power of shame in our lives. She also distinguishes the differences between guilt, regret, and shame, and offers us practical ways we can face our shame. She also gives helpful ways we can help others in their struggle against shame. You are not hopeless or alone. Last week a friend asked why we read passages from two gospels each weekWe are tracking comparisons and contrasts between John and Synoptic gospels (Matthew, Mark & Luke)– John wrote long after the Synoptics had been in circulation• he was at a different stage of spiritual insight than when he walked with Jesus• so what he provides is like a spiritual commentary on the other gospels◦ he provides missing pieces in their understanding and fills in some of the blanks– today’s reading have to do with two men miraculously healed• they did not suffer from the same condition, but both were incapacitated◦ and in both situations Jesus was attacked for healing them• but unlike Mark’s gospel, John used the healing as an opportunity◦ John provides a deeper insight into Jesus’ heart and mind
“The Eagle’s Eye”: Class 1 Background to John’s Gospel Introduction “John, oh John, Thou honourable bird, Sun-peering eagle. Taking a bird’s-eye view, Even of Calvary and Resurrection.” D H Laurance - “St John” "In the other gospels, Jesus’ story takes place in the horizontal dimensions of the geography and history of Israel; John brings in the vertical – Jesus is above and beyond all that…...John’s Jesus is nothing less than God himself, coming down like an eagle from the heights of the world above to save the reader from darkness and evil, if only we allow ourselves in faith to be found by him.” “Four Gospels, One Jesus? A symbolic reading”, Richard Burridge 1. John’s gospel is biographic “In each of my friends there is something that only some other friend can fully bring out. By myself I am not large enough to call the whole man into activity; I want other lights than my own to show all his facets…” C.S. Lewis, The Four Loves 2. John’s gospel is “Spiritual” “…John, last of all, conscious that the outward facts had been set forth in the Gospels, was urged on by his disciples, and, divinely moved by the Spirit, composed a spiritual Gospel.” Clement of Alexandria (ca. 155-220 CE) 3. John’s gospel has different areas of focus The synoptics (Matthew, Mark, Luke)John’s Gospel Story parables (prodigal son, man building bigger barns etc.) Stories using symbolism (such as the vine and branches in chapter 15 etc.) Teaching on the Kingdom of God Teaching on eternal life Short, catchy sayings (e.g. ‘For the Son of Man came to seek and save what was lost’ – Lk 13). Long teaching sections (e.g Jn 5, 6, 13-18) Teaching on the last days still to come (eschatology). Teaching on the last days that are already here. Sermon on the Mount and the Lord’s Prayer. Farewell address (chapters 13-17) Jesus’ own baptism by John. Jesus’ interactions with John the Baptist. Jesus’ temptation by Satan and demon exorcisms. Satan as Jesus’ main enemy working through Judas. 4. Jesus (John 1.1-14) a.His Identity a.“What can you see in the first 14 verses that tells us about the identity of Jesus the Christ?” b.His Capacity a.“What can you see in the first 14 verses that tells us about the capacities of Jesus the Christ? What he can do?” Summary •“What has stood out to you from tonight?” a.Read/skim the whole gospel between now and next Friday. b.Discuss what you’re learning and your questions with your spouse/friends. c.Ask God to reveal what aspect of Jesus he would like you to focus on through this series. In this week's bonus episode we talk a little more about the Advent season and explore how in the Gospel of Luke John the Baptist isn't referred to as John the Baptist, but as John the Son of Zechariah. John's father was a priest and as a priest's son John would have had special privileges as Jewish Royalty. BUT, instead of growing up to wear a crown of sorts, he dressed like a hippie and headed out to the desert where he served the community. Why is that important? And what's it have to do with Christmas? And with you and me? Let's talk about it. Luke shares his story of going from being an unhappy plumber drinking, cheating and wishing his life away to now helping thousands with their mindset, from self sabotage to overthinking. Luke has undergone a huge journey himself and shares what he has learnt along the way. Realising that mindset was key he went deep into it working with some world class coaches to learn more and more including Tony Robbins and Carrie and Brian. We talk about self sabotage and why it happens, including how others can hold you back when you're changing your life. And then deeply into over thinking about life and the impact it can have on you, bringing you back you safety. A big part of that was also how to be consistent to get results in any area of your life. And how to make progress everyday, protecting your confidence. And then we talk into the real reasons for overwhelm, the lack of priorities and the lack of clarity and why that exists. A truly amazing episode so different to what I thought we were going to talk about but an AMAZING one so get your journals out to scribble notes. Enjoy. Survey through the Bible - 10 - The Gospels - Matthew, Mark, Luke, John.
Survey through the Bible - 10 - The Gospels - Matthew, Mark, Luke, John.
Have you ever had trouble placing a face--you know you should remember them and their name is right on the tip of your tongue, but nothing registers. Two of Jesus' disciples had this experience on the road to Emmaus, and their experience challenges us to ask, Do I recognize Jesus? Do I know who He really is? Both the Gospel of Luke and the Gospel of John seek to help us to be certain about the identity of Jesus and then they challenge us to trust Him.
Starting at Luke 1:5, this session focuses on the man God destined to "prepare the way of the Lord," John the Baptist (Is 40:3). He is the long-awaited son of the Zechariah the priest of Abijah and the barren Elizabeth, an elderly couple who were "blameless before the Lord, following all this commandments and ordinances" (Lk 1:6) The so-called "Little Annunciation" refers to Luke 1:8-22, when the Archangel Gabriel appears to Zechariah in the Temple and announces that Elizabeth will conceive of John. As he towers over Zechariah before the Altar of Insence, Gabriel proclaims that John will not only be a Nazirite who lives according to the ordinances of Numbers 6, but he will "be filled with the Holy Spirit" from his mother's womb and will fulfil the prophecies of the end of the Book of Malachi and Sirach 48:10. Moreover, he will "turn many of the sons of Israel to the Lord their God, and he will go before Him in the spirit of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready for the Lord a people prepared." When Zechariah questions the messenger of God, he is struck mute until John's birth for his lack of faith, but his tongue loosens at the remarkable naming of his son. Now eight days old, John has been the talk of the hill country of Judah for five months, for some of his neighbors marvel at him, others are frightened and all ask "What then will this child be?" Simply put, John is the greatest of all the prophets who effectively sums up all the prophets and a saint of saints. All four Gospels begin with John the Baptist as the herald and preparer for Christ. Intentionally consecrated for divine intervention, John is filled with the Holy Spirit from within his mother's womb. The first prophet in 400 years, his ministry of baptism and repentance was unique in all of Judaism quickly attracts the attention of all of Israel. Baptizing thousands primarily in the Jordan he even extends his ministry to the Samaritans and is later captured ministering in the Northern country. His extraordinarily radical message condemns the government for its injustice towards the poor and indicts the corruption within the priestly leadership. Underscoring the presence of grace and divine design in John's life, Jesus chooses not to begin his ministry full-throttle until after John's death. John's ministry is relevant even today, for we must continue to prepare the way of the Lord and do whatever possible to prepare ourselves and our people for salvation by repenting and entering into the treasures of our Baptism.
