In this episode we explore the long history of concerns that some money may be "tainted", and ask what this means for philanthropy now and in the future. Including:The history of tainted donations, featuring: St Augustine of Hippo, The Venerable Bede, St Thomas Aquinas, The Paris Guild of Prostitutes, Frederick Douglass, George Cadbury, George Bernard Shaw, The Salvation Army, J. D. Rockefeller, Mark Twain and G.K. Chesterton.Is a donation only tainted if the method of wealth creation is ethical questionable, or can it be tainted by association becasue a donor is problematic for some other reason?How have views about what kinds of wealth creation are or aren't ethically acceptable changed over time?Is there a statute of limitations of any kind on tainted money, so that after a certain period of time it is deemed OK despite any problematic connections?Is it enough to acknowledge when wealth is based on past injustices such as slavery, or do active reparations need to be made? How does this work in practice?Should we distinguish between critiques of individual tainted donations and systemic critiques of wealth and capitalism as a whole?Who decides whether a donation is tainted?Is it better to take tainted money if the charitable activity being funded addresses the ethical concerns arising from the wealth? (E.g. using money from the gambling industry to address gambling addiction). Or does this increase the chance of reputation laundering?Does acceptance of a gift in reality always imply condoning the source of wealth?Are concerns about tainted donations greater when the donor is getting recognition for the gift? Would it be better if such gifts were entirely anonymous?Is it more acceptable to accept money from a tainted source if no strings are attached? Career Retrospective with Hayley Atwell on May 22, 2018. Moderated by Jenelle Riley, Variety. Hayley’s impressive body of work has established her as one of the finest actresses of her generation. Hayley can be seen starring in HOWARD'S END. Written by Manchester By the Sea’s Oscar nominated director, Kenneth Lonergan, Hayley plays the lead role, alongside Matthew Macfadyen in the adaptation of E.M. Forster’s classic novel. Through the prism of three families: the intellectual and idealistic Schlegels, the wealthy Wilcoxes from the world of business, and the working class Basts, this period drama tracks the changing landscape of social and class divisions in turn of the century England. The series was recently launched in the US to much acclaim. Earlier this year, Hayley performed at the Hampstead Theatre in Sarah Burgess’s DRY POWDER. Directed by Anna Ledwich, Hayley took the lead role alongside Tom Riley and Aidan McArdle in the comedy which explored the PR world of New York. Later this year, Hayley will be seen starring alongside Ewan McGregor in Disney’s CHRISTOPHER ROBIN. Directed by Marc Forster, the film takes a fresh interpretation on A.A. Milne’s classic children’s story ‘Winnie-the-Pooh’ and is set to be released this August 3, 2018. Having trained in classical theatre at the Guildhall school of Music and Drama, upon graduation Hayley starred alongside David Oyelowo in PROMETHEUS BOUND in the West End. She went on to join the Royal Shakespeare Company and had lead roles at the Royal National Theatre in THE MAN OF MODE and MAJOR BARBARA. She has been nominated for two Olivier awards for her performances in A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE at The Duke of York's and in THE PRIDE at Trafalgar Studios. Hayley made her TV debut in the adaptation of Booker Prize winner THE LINE OF BEAUTY which lead to starring roles in several dramas including PILLARS OF EARTH, for which she received a Golden Globe nomination and in Charlie Brooker's BAFTA winning BLACK MIRROR series and has also starred in two William Boyd adaptations, ANY HUMAN HEART and RESTLESS. She also played Agent Peggy Carter in the Marvel movie franchise and in two seasons of eponymous series AGENT CARTER in the US. Chronicle: A Star Trek Audio Adventure. David McDowell Blue is an actor, writer, and director. Since graduating from the National Shakespeare Conservatory in New York, he has played such iconic roles as Jacques in As You LIke It, Stephen Undershaft in Major Barbara, the fool in King Lear, Malvolio in Twelfth Night, Goldberg in The Birthday Party, among others. His directing credits include Heartbreak House by George Bernard Shaw, The Public Eye by Peter Shaffer, his own edit of William Shakespeare’s Richard III, and, most recently, the original Masoch and DeSade by Omen Kaine. He was born in San Francisco but raised in Florida, ending up in Los Angeles where he is a well-known theatre reviewer. Now Blue is about to launch Chronicle, a Star Trek audio adventure set about four years after the events set in Star Trek: Nemesis. Caoimhe can now be seen on screen in RTÉ’s Fair City. Caoimhe most recently appeared in the feature film The Randomer written by Gerry Stembridge, which premiered in the Galway Film Fleadh in 2016. Onstage she recently appeared in The Constant Wife, in the Gate Theatre, directed by Alan Stanford. Recent theatre credits include Lisa in the highly successful Unmanageable Sisters at the Abbey Theatre, as well as Gloria in You Never Can Tell, at the Abbey Theatre, directed by Conall Morrison, and Mary Boyle in Juno and the Paycock, directed by Mark O’Rowe at the Gate Theatre. She recently completed filming on Soulsmith, a feature film, written and directed by Kevin Henry and The Wave, written and directed by TJ O’Grady Peyton and Oscar Winning director Benjamin Cleary. Caoimhe is from Dublin and graduated from the Gaiety School of Acting Full Time Acting Course in June 2011, and was awarded the Gaiety School Theatre Bursary in 2010. While at the Gaiety School she appeared in Macbeth and Twelfth Night directed by Liam Halligan and in Little Gem directed by Paul Brennan. On screen she has appeared in the role of Elizabeth in Reign a CW Network produced TV Series directed by Brad Silberling, in the award winning short film Whatever Turns You On (TimeSnap Production) and in Rent A Friend (Kite Entertainment) as part of RTE’s Storyland competition. Caoimhe appeared as Baba in two productions of The Country Girls, written and adapted for the stage by Enda O’Brien, and directed by Mikel Murfi for Red Kettle Theatre Company in the Gaiety Theatre, Dublin, in Garter Lane Theatre and on tour. Other theatre work include Major Barbara, directed by Annabelle Comyn at the Abbey Theatre, and The Far Off Hills directed by Mikel Murfi for NOMAD productions at the Hawkswell Theatre, Sligo and on national tour. Caoimhe also appeared as Honor in Paul Howard’s hit play Breaking Dad directed by Jimmy Fay (Landmark productions) at the Gaiety Theatre, Dublin. In early 2015, she reprised her role as Honor, in the sell-out remount of Breaking Dad in the Gaiety Theatre Dublin and in Cork Opera House. Caoimhe appeared as Vera in Brien Friel’s version of A Month In The Country, directed by Ethan McSweeny, at The Gate Theatre.

Steve Cooper talks with actor Ammar Daraiseh. Ammar received his Master's Degree in Acting from The Theatre School of DePaul University. After that he performed in many stage productions throughout Chicago including Anna Karenina, Major Barbara and MacBeth. He has been seen on TV in the shows The Shield, Early Edition, Lost, West Wing, Alias, Without a Trace, Flash Forward and Jag to name a few and can also be seen in many movies including The Guardian, Saving Jessica Lynch, The Princess & The Marine, Jarhead, US Marshalls and Bad Company. He currently is starring and producing the web series The Devil's Interview that will be out later this year.
