Our story begins with the humble beginnings of the tomato, a fruit native to South America, and initially feared and misunderstood in Europe due to its association with the nightshade family. We'll explore how the tomato overcame its poisonous reputation to become the beloved "pomo d'oro" or "golden apple" in Italy around 1522, setting off a gastronomic revolution that changed the course of Italian cuisine forever. As we travel through different continents, we'll see how the tomato seamlessly integrated into various cultures, becoming a staple in Middle Eastern, North African, and European diets. We'll dig into the science and art surrounding the tomato, examining its role in agriculture, literature, and even festivals like Spain's La Tomatina.

"There have been seasons and periods of my NCAA journey where it hasn't felt fun. To me then it's like, Why are you doing it? Otherwise, it's just painful… The fun part is warming up with my teammates and chatting on the cool down about whatever drama happened with their friends that day. This year at camp when we sat down as a women's team to think through what we want out of this season, that was a big part of our conversation. We want to be successful, absolutely. That's a top priority here. But how we go about doing that is up to us." 2023 NCAA 1500m champion Maia Ramsden, a junior at Harvard, just signed a NIL deal with On. In this episode, you'll get to hear a bit more of her story as she's lived in so many awesome places including New York. New Zealand (which she represents internationally), Fiji, the Solomon Islands, Ethiopia and now Cambridge. She had an amazing season that included a personal best of 4:08 to win the NCAA title in Austin. She's also having a really great cross country season that included a sixth-place finish at the Nuttycomb Invitational in Wisconsin, which is considered one of the deepest races of the year. She'll be one to watch at the upcoming Ivy League Championships, NCAA Regional Championships and the NCAA Championships in Charlottesville next month. This was a super fun episode and I'm sure you'll be rooting for Maia and the Harvard ladies in the coming weeks. Erica Haims is the founder of Haims Consulting where she specializes in Localization Marketing and the marketing of the localization industry. She has served on the board of Women in Localization and has held long-term roles at Apple and Atlantic Records. The current pandemic has had a huge impact on many brands' localization and globalization, as it has fast-tracked the demands on the digital experience. Erica promotes breaking through silos by promoting collaboration, clear communication, and consistent terminology and infrastructure alignment. She has a unique vantage point when looking at the brand journey as it travels across the globe. This allows her to connect the dots between globalization and localization. Her blog, “Globalization Motivation,” is devoted to breaking the silos that exist between vendors, clients, and identifying where localization should be in the globalization conversation. KEY TAKEAWAYS Small to medium-sized companies should look at the bigger brands' mistakes and what they are doing. Brand consistency and recognition are important but how the bigger companies behave is also important. Using localisation, being open-minded, having good communication, reacting very quickly, giving that trust and being flexible, also for the product. For global growth, small companies also should have flexible products or platforms or services to compete with the others. BEST MOMENTS “Brand consistency and that's intentional, it's very detailed. Small companies may not pay that much attention to detail cause it requires, besides consistency, it requires strict content management, communication has to be very clear, there has to be alignment and that's really where I think there is such an important on brand message, keeping that brand consistent as it travels.” “People want to be spoken to. They wanna be spoken to in their own language. But it's that customer demand that really drives that personalisation. So, Glocalisation has really come out of where you have local words necessary.” “When I think of the big three, there are three things. The first thing is insulting your customer, you alienate your customer. Then that they are not gonna want to come back. They've been insulted. Then you have legal actions, so where you can be sued, then you have a huge financial loss there because you run into lawsuits where you've lied or you've broken a rule, you've used some image that is really proprietary to someone else…So, there is insulting then getting sued and then there's local regulation that companies are not aware of when they go into a region.” “The big thing is to prepare that not think of globalisation as an afterthought. We will be going global. We need to build our product to, let's say, handle multiple characters or realize that we're going to have to have multiple versions of the product or the marketing. I think you have to do that at the onset and think about those worst-case scenarios. What's really great is, I say, learn from the bigger companies' mistakes because they can absorb the mistakes.” ABOUT THE HOST Levent Yildizgoren, the author of 'Good Business in any Language', is an award-winning entrepreneur, localisation professional, and a PRINCE2 qualified project manager. I want to make sure that we're being as inclusive as possible as we can, because I think there's a huge range of personalities and types of people in the EW program.”What she's learned about Haas:“One of the things I've enjoyed learning most about Haas has been when you let your guard down with people and you admit that you don't have a strong suit in something, you're not an expert and you're just here to learn, and you're curious to learn more. How enthusiastically everybody jumps in to try and help you and how there is zero judgment that comes to admitting that you don't know how to tackle the homework, or you need a little help and explanation...And that to me really defines the Confidence Without Attitude defining leadership principle at Haas.”Her advice for the newest class of Haasies:“I think my advice would revolve around being curious, not being afraid to ask questions, not being afraid to tap somebody on the shoulder and introduce yourself to them...Don't be afraid to let your guard down and don't be afraid to admit you don't know something and you want to learn more because sometimes the professor will help you out. But most often it's your classmates who are really gonna open your eyes, and support you as you go through Haas.” ResourcesDiversity SymposiumRecipes:Sticky Rice DumplingsTurnip CakeSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/here-at-haas/donations

Join in for a conversation with Graeme Moffat, Chief Scientist and VP of Regulatory Affairs at Interaxon. Interaxon is a neurotech company based out of Toronto. They are the creators of the Muse headband where it uses technology and neuroscience to help you meditate effectively, one of the world-leading companies making this happen. Graham earned his PhD in neuroscience at Universite Aix-Marseille in France but he had his sights set on joining the private sector during his early neuroscience education at McMaster university. He was bit by the startup bug whilst building the largest neuroscience publication platform in Switzerland and that led him to become the Chief Scientist at Meta, a NeuroTech company that got acquired by the Chan-Zuckerburg Foundation, and later to become the Chief Scientist at Interaxon. In our chat we cover Graham's fascinating global journey as a neuroscientist, the academic world, the childhood that started his fascination with the human brain and much more. I should also add that I selfishly wanted to learn more about neuroscience and meditation so we also geek out about all of that in the episode as well!

If you make it to one of the locations, you can expect high levels of openness and spontaneity, and to dive right in and play with some tricky but important topics, including Sharon’s three guiding questions: Is what I’m doing working? If it’s not working, what am I doing about it? If I’m going to do something about it, who’s already done it and what did they do? 0.55 I think people already know, but this podcast is to reconfirm the World Tour announcement •We’re going to New York, Los Angeles, London, Melbourne, Sydney, and then maybe somewhere in Singapore and/or Auckland •The training we’re going to be doing is How to Become a Successful Coach •16 years ago I went to an event like this and for 16 years I’ve been remembering how it touched me and shaped my journey •Now we get that opportunity to have these conversations with people who are perhaps just at the beginning of their journey •One of the great gifts of coaching is not only helping other people but how much you grow and learn about yourself through your service to others •When I started my journey, I was filled with fears and self-doubt •Every limit you could imagine around self sabotage I had, and I still have a few of them •My starting point was “How do I get out of bed and function?” •So if you’re there, or anywhere further down the path, you’ll have a great time at this event 5.39 We were in Sydney just a few weeks ago, and one of the members shared that she saw a two-minute video of you (Sharon) and it reignited a fire within her, to change the world, that she hasn’t felt since she was a teenager •It’s okay to dream that big! Who convinced you that your dream wasn’t worth holding on to? •Hopefully that two minute video helped, It can be a hard journey, a meandering journey, but it’s worth it •That’s part of what’s so powerful about what you teach now, is you’ve taken the meandering journey and you’ve developed such amazing models that other people can follow 7.14 There are three questions that dictate how I live my life •Is what I’m doing working? •If it’s not working, what am I doing about it? •If I’m going to do something about it, who’s already done it and what did they do? •When we ask is it working that could mean, is what you’re doing giving you joy, fulfilment, meaning? •Are you’re choices enabling you to have intimate relationships with yourselves and others that you love? •If not, are you going to do something about it? And who are you going to do it with? 10.12 I used to have this wonderful diluted of the world, that If I keep doing this harder and more the eventually world will see it my way •Then one day it occurred to me, the world’s not changing •It took me 17 years to realize the world’s probably not going to change, it’s probably going to need to be me •If there’s anything that’s worth showing up to this event for it’s not the one or two days we have together it’s the 17 years I’ve invested learning this stuff •We feel best when we’re making progress •When you show up to this event you can’t expect to sit back, I’ll be asking the hard questions •It’s okay not to have the answers, but be willing to play around and try some things on •The most important things are to be open to learn, spontaneous, and emotionally open with yourself and others 16.30 You know how often I’ve gotten the feedback that I should soften the message? But I can’t… •I can’t do that because someone who is ready for the message might not hear it because I’m not courageous enough to say it and that would be a huge disservice to them •I’m not interested in the status quo, I’m not interested in emotional safety where nothing is risked, not interested in covering up 19.40 As coaches, we learn to hold people with our hearts and help them with our heads •But you can’t help with the head if you haven’t got the heart •If we can’t see them, with everything, the shame, everything their hiding, and hold them gently with all of that, there are limits on that breakthrough •Once you’re holding someone fully, you can start to answer the important questions •You’ve got to feel it, you can’t be totally intellectual and passive about it •And that’s who comes along to the workshops, they come ready to lean in and get right into it •One way I like to open, is we have to act like we’ve known each other for 20 years 23.35 Let’s talk about the Barnes & Noble Union square book signing •Wednesday, 25th of September, 7pm •If you’re in New York, come along, bring friends and family •Apparently it’s the biggest book store in New York •We’d love to have a big showing •There will be a golden scroll gift if you come and buy the book which includes interviews and various other bonuses (see in resources below) •Barnes & Noble got exclusive rights to the book in New York •If you can’t make it, contact Barnes & Noble to order it, and Sharon will sign some in advance (contact info in resources) •If you order it from Barnes & Noble remotely, we’ll send you the golden scroll via email (send us your receipt at TImeToAct@TheCoachingInstitute.com.au) •Order by 25th of September 27.35 This book has changed people’s lives •3 men in the past few months have shared with me that the book has saved their lives •Tom shared “As I worked through the models of self love, I reconnected with my heart, my emotions and my inner world. I let go of fears, control, and anger and took responsibility for my own needs…I now love being me” •We would love to see you on the world tour and at the book signing!
