We live in times of individual, sociocultural and planetary crisis, exacerbated by rising divisions between people. How have humans historically navigated such times of crisis? Yes, we've organized, taken action, and responded as we've been called to respond. But we have also deepened our connection to the greater cosmos, through songs and poems and rituals of devotion, through crying out to a beloved universe whose workings remain a mystery but to whom we feel intimately and inextricably connected. In times when we are raw and situations are precarious, many poets tell us, the breath of life is closer than ever. So we have sung aloud to source, and honored the emotional intricacies of our relationship with a beloved world whose turnings can be maddening, painful and often beyond our control. Singing to the beloved in this way isn't about blissing out and bypassing, it's about finding a practice that honors the depth and emotional texture of our experience of a paradoxical world and that matches the intensity of the times we're living in. For the wounds of these times cannot simply be addressed through rational analysis and diagnosis, nor can they be addressed only with the short-burning flame of outrage. We need a deeper resourcing. At a time of a profound pan-societal longing for meaning and sacredness, connecting to the cosmos as beloved and seeing the sacred in every phase of the beloved's waves has deep implications for how we resource and replenish ourselves, how we align our movements to the actual ebbs and flows of the natural world, and how we begin to heal the divided sociocultural space between us. Featuring a conversation with Dr. Omid Safi and music by Leah Song, Chloe Smith, Duncan Wickel, Jeunae Elita, Marya Stark, Sidibe, Serena Bixby, Forest Sun, Haley Young and others, this episode of The Emerald podcast encourages us to pause for a moment in the midst of all the great world-turning events and remember and connect to the living, breathing, source of it all. In the modern world, words like 'law' and 'order' carry with them a good deal of sociocultural baggage, and are often associated with restriction, burden, and arbitrarily imposed rules. Yet historically, tradition after tradition sees an innate, artful order to the natural world and views the Law of the Land as something vibrant and alive, present in the breath and in the waters and in the endless cycling of the clouds. In this living vision of Law, nature unfolds along particular patterns and pulses, and the task of the human being is to understand what it means to align to this inherent pattern. The culture attunes itself to the Law of the Land — and its dances and its artworks, its ceremonies and its cycles of planting and harvest are a reflection of this living Law. At the heart of this Law is a responsibility to give back to the living web of which we are a part, and the understanding that in the very act of being alive, we owe debts to the larger cycle of creation. Talk of shared responsibility and debt can seem at odds with a modern culture that focuses on individualist freedoms. Yet traditional visions of Law remind us that our responsibility to nature is not burdensome. In fact, to align to the larger web of life alleviates a great modern burden — the burden of isolation. So Law, ceremonially enacted, places a person in direct somatic relationship with the community and the ecology and the larger cosmos. In this vision, Law is not something that can be theoretically imposed. It must be felt, and it is traditionally felt ritually. So any discussion on Law — Natural Law, environmental law — that does not include a sacred, ceremonial component, is incomplete. For the Law of the Land, as it is traditionally seen, is alive, and what matters most is our communal ritual connection to it. Nyoongar Elder Noel Nannup, Native American activist and author Jose Barreiro, and author Bill Mahony join for this vibrant journey into Law... and clouds. Across the globe, the arrival of 'civilization' brought with it the persecution of the seer, the shaman, and the visionary. Why? Perhaps it is because civilization, with its narratives of individual agency and control, its relentless emphasis on forward progress, its commitment to the removal of mystery from daily life, and its encouragement of numbness over feeling, is fundamentally at odds with the seer's sensitivities and alignment to larger forces beyond human control. So modernity pushes the seer to the fringe — and once cast aside, seeing can veer into charlatanry and delusion. The rise of free market spirituality and New Age conspiracy is a result of the unmooring of the seer from traditional context. Yet what this points to isn't something 'wrong' with seeing or spirituality. It points to the need for context in a larger culture of disconnect and fragmentation, for slow learning and earned wisdom within a culture that always rushes things outwards. Dichotomized narratives that pit scientific rationalism against the spiritual, shamanic, or oracular ignore the central importance that spiritual movements play in culture. Visionary movements drive all aspects of culture, including scientific innovation. And ultimately — as science itself tells us — having a 'fringe' that sees things differently than the mainstream is absolutely essential to the growth of culture. So perhaps the modern-day seer must re-learn what it means to find anchor and context and earned wisdom, just as society must remember that the seer is vitally important. In a world of fragmentation and numbness, the seer comes to wake the culture up, to restore its sensitivities, and ultimately to drive culture forward. Featuring conversations with Sophie Strand and Healingfromhealing's Adam Aronovich and music by Peia, Marya Stark, Char Rothschild, and more. Listen on a good sound system!Support the show
Across cultures and traditions, there have always been those that speak with the dead, hear voices, enter states of oracular trance, and receive visions of what is to come. Such sensitivity, traditionally, is common. It's common to have premonitions that come to pass, to have dream experiences that translate into day-to-day life, and to be in continual felt dialogue with ancestors, with the dead, and with a larger world of animate forces. For most of human history, the people that received such visions lived right at the center of culture. But what happens when the seer is ripped from the ecology in which they traditionally lived? The intuitive is cast out, othered, vilified, and pathologized. Cast aside, relegated to the margins of society, without the context that once held it, oracular seeing can veer into charlatanry and delusion. So these days visions — like everything else in the modern world — are immediately monetized, translated into marketable pop-spirituality and much of the mastery and depth of visionary tradition is lost. But what this points to isn't something “wrong” with intuition or the practice of oracular vision — it points to something wrong with modernity's relationship with it. The proclivity towards vilifying and pathologizing intuition on the one hand and claiming it as an exotic and monetizable gift useful for attracting internet followers on the other — all of this is a function of the othering of intuition in the modern world. Societally, we would do well to rediscover the central role of the seer. For if we lose our ability to learn from the visions of seers, we lose the feeling body of culture — the very thing that drives culture forward. Featuring music by Marya Stark, Char Rothschild, and Peia, and featuring discussions with author Frederick Smith, psychoanalyst Bernardo Malamut, and Sophie Strand, this multi-part episode series seeks to place the seer back in their rightful place at the center of culture. It is simultaneously a celebration of the gifts of the intuitive and a reminder that dreams and visions need an ecology of accountability in which to live and grow. In the myths and fairytales, everything teems with sentience and agency... Everything is alive. There are talking trees and singing stones and hedges that move of their own will. Mirrors speak. Swords dance. There are flying carpets and far-seeing spyglasses and cloaks and boots that leap by themselves. This pervasive insistence in the old stories that absolutely everything is alive — that everything has eyes — butts up against modern rationality and therefore gets marginalized as childish 'fantasy.' But as science discovers more and more that the lines between living and dead, conscious and not, human and non-human are not as clearcut as we'd once imagined, as science starts to unpack the sentience of trees and the latent life within clay, we start to (re)discover that 'things' are not just dead objects at all, and that this whole world hums with animacy. And so the vision of a world of persons, a world with eyes, is not simply a child's eye view — it's actually much closer to the way things are. In taking our attention to the least of things, and remembering that we inhabit a world with eyes, we open up the possibility of redefining our relationship with the cosmos itself. Sparked to life by a conversation with sculptor Rose B. Simpson and featuring original music by Peia, Marya Stark, Sidibe, Ben Murphy, and Andy Aquarius, this episode takes us on a journey through talking stones and living clay and animate bells and drums into a world in which everything has eyes, everything has agency, everything is a portal to the infinite — even the seemingly 'inanimate.' Even... your car. Listen on a good sound system, at a time when you can devote your full attention.Support the show

Hello Beautiful Soul Sisters!!! Happy Returning of the Light if you are in the Northern Hemisphere! I was hoping to publish this episode on the Winter Solstice, but my first recording's audio was incredibly bad… I am sorry to say this one does have some random feedback but is much better! I did purchase a new microphone but the little issues in this episode seem to be from an unstable internet connection, so perhaps the next episode I record will have to be with my hotspot…. I hope that you still find ease in your listening. I am celebrating with you the return of the light as we have moved past the darkest day and longest night of the year! This is a solo episode where I share stories of two different women only gatherings I had the honor of experiencing in November and December. One was a gathering I hosted at Skalitude in Washington State, the other at Ghost Ranch in New Mexico hosted by Kimberly Ann Johnson. Both incredibly potent and transformational!!! Our guest today is who first introduced me to womb wisdom. She is an award-winning vocalist, composer, producer, performer, and multi-instrumentalist. When she is not on stage or deep in her craft, Marya offers her medicine as a Musical Midwife, supporting the Archetypal Embodiment Journey of her students. Steeped in the alchemical arts of womb clearing, she currently leads her 'Voice Of My Womb' vocal enrichment workshop series globally and online. Please help me welcome the Womb Goddess, Marya Stark to untamed & unashamed! -What is it that causes such a shift in us when we sing, or drum, or dance to a certain song & we feel more embodied in whichever way that song invokes? -What is womb wisdom? -our monthly cycle & how we can honor each stage.. -The more we rest during the time that we bleed, the more we set ourselves up for success for the month to come. -what opens her up to be in reception mode for her music -What she does when she's feeling blocked from her creativity -“The great work that women get to do is deeply steep in this womb clearing because that's what clears our energetic signature of resentments, misalignments around our own voice and boundaries.” - Marya Stark -What she thinks we're healing when we're doing ancestral work and womb wisdom clearing -How does one do the womb clearing if they don't know what happened in their feminine lineage -her stay-at-home retreats — how she conducts these retreats and the significance of resetting her body. Have you ever considered that the relationship you have with your ancestors quite literally shapes all aspects of your life? Ancestral Healing Guide Torie Feldman makes a strong case for how our relationship to our ancestral lineage impacts your relationship to money, to your body, to your spouse and family and influences the way you live and lead. In this episode Torie shares her remarkable story that initiated her journey of ancestral healing and awakening, and we dive into what it means to connect with your ancestors, and how to cultivate a relationship with them. Torie shares her perspective on what we can do if we don't feel a strong resonance with our own lineage and how to navigate honoring the ancestry of cultures of a different bloodline. We look at this conversation through the lens of leadership and explore why it's imperative for the leaders of our time to heal their lineage. https://www.lauradawn.co/42 (Click here to access this episode's page complete with a full transcript, more about the author, and complete list of resources. ) Resources MentionedBooks https://amzn.to/3HQ854e (Jambalaya: The Natural Woman's Book of Personal Charms and Practical Rituals) https://amzn.to/3HQ854e (By Yeye Luisah Teish ) https://instagram.com/hausofhoodoo?utm_medium=copy_link (House of Hoodoo ) Other Resources Reclaim Your Energy Meditation: https://www.sacredancestry.com/receive-free-meditation (https://www.sacredancestry.com/receive-free-meditation) Wise + Well 5-Day Challenge: https://www.sacredancestry.com/challenge (https://www.sacredancestry.com/challenge) Unveil the Witch Within 3-Day Ceremony: https://www.sacredancestry.com/free-ceremony (https://www.sacredancestry.com/free-ceremony) The Honeyed Womb: https://www.sacredancestry.com/the-honeyed-womb-evergreen (https://www.sacredancestry.com/the-honeyed-womb-evergreen) Use code “Laura20” to get 20% off! Blessed Witchmas, pagan people! Welcome to the final episode of the Witchcast for 2021 - though there may be a couple of surprise specials popping up over the break! It’s been a wild ride of a year, but here in the sonic sacred circle you can find an enchanted sanctuary full of magick, great vibes, fascinating witchy stories and uplifting songs to make your pagan heart sing. For this episode, Lucy dives into the pagan origins of Christmas, from Krampus to Mithras and very unseemly medieval revelry. Then it’s all about the occult symbology of The Green Knight, a new(ish) film by David Lowery that some are calling a masterpiece. The film centres in many ways around the tension between Christianity and paganism - and it’s set at Christmas! It’s a rich, dream-like meditation of a film, packed with magickal symbols and Lucy breaks it all down - including on how the pentacle represents five sets of soooo many witchy and knightly values. Then there are readings for you all - right before Lithmas (Litha and Christmas) so enjoy that little gift - better still, get your cards out and gift yourself a reading, witchy one! Songs are The Feast of Krampus by S.J. Tucker, the Holly and the Ivy by Loreena McKennit and Have Yourself a Faerie Little Solstice by Marya Stark. The Witchcast acknowledges the Yuin people, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which the Witchcast is recorded, and pays respect to their Elders past, present and future and their connection to land, sea and community. The Witchcast extends that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Lucy wants to thank and praise all the Patreon supporters who are legends, one and all; the producer of the Witchcast, Shayne Brian, for his magick week in week out; Georgia Allison for the beautiful imagery; and each and every person who listens - You are loved. Never forget - your magick is real! If you love the show, then please leave a review or rating on iTunes - it would be so appreciated and it makes a true difference! I love this conversation with Marya Stark on how to access the deep seated creative intelligence inside all of us to transform our life and our art. Marya Stark is a vocalist, composer, performer, and multi-instrumentalist. She is a discoverer of archetypes, a storyteller, bard, and muse. An Arizona native, Marya first found her voice in the high desert, studying at the Arizona School For The Arts, before entering Chapman Music Conservatory. While following the thread of classical vocal training, Marya's love of myth, psyche and sound healing led her to study Music Therapy. This training catalyzed Marya into a period of lavish songwriting, as she became devoted to narrating the journey of her own coming of age, collecting songs as time capsules of her human experience. NPR recently stated: “The music is so beautiful and detailed, and the lyrics, I was blown away. Incredibly evocative imagery. This is a great album. Just fantastic.” When she is not on stage or composing music, Marya works as a Musical Midwife, supporting the creative journey of her students. She is a mentor in the art of voice and song craft. She is a chaser of waterfalls, a lover of bulletproof coffee, and is a huge fan of the Parade Of Flamingos from BBC's Planet Earth II And she loves you just the way you are. Episode 308: It can be extremely challenging to let go of control (in a healthy way) and the need for everything to be according to a strict plan. It's even more challenging to let the future unfold in these uncertain and turbulent times. The feminine/masculine spheres of control and surrender are not as simple as "feminine yielding" and "masculine control" - there is feminine control and masculine control, just as there is masculine yielding and feminine yielding. Show Notes: As an introvert, is finding it healthier to be in nature vs. in Brooklyn. It took trust to be led into a new living situation without a plan. If you struggle with being led, this is an invitation to notice how often you feel your heartspace tighten around a plan. What if you viewed your life as it time didn't exist? Let go of the idea of anything being final and live on a moment-to-moment basis. "When we start making promises about the future, we severely tighten the corset on life." What could be around the corner could be better. The masculine within you is the part that says, "I trust myself so deeply to get myself out of any mess, so I can say yes without diving deeper." Disempowered feminine: "I can't make plans. Plans are too hard for me. Can you make the plans for me?" or "I have to make all the plans. I can't trust anyone to do it." It's important to be both spiritual and relatable - balance of masculine-grounded/feminine-ethereal. Katie interviews Marya Stark, founding executive director of Emerge America, about Marya's mother, Helen, who lived for most of her life with a debilitating lung condition that left her with 25% of normal lung capacity. Helen had nine children, and somehow managed to make each believe that that one child was her favorite. Katie and Marya dig deep into how Helen might have managed to pull that off.

Emotional Intelligence, Rites of Passage, Creating Safe Spaces with music! In this episode, we talk about some of the business aspects of being a musician with Marya Stark. As a music therapist, Marya has worked with at risk youth, addiction recovery, mental health, hospice, autism, and many other special needs communities. She has also been a performing musician and active in theatre. Her list on how to be a bold business woman is; (1. Ask for what I want (2. Say no regularly (3. Don't take others' upset at my 'NO' personally (4. Prioritize self care - because that will make me the most powerful version of me. She encourages women everywhere to become familiar with their cycles and keep a womb journal, just write a word or few sentences about how your womb feels every day for a full month. By listening to your body, your power and joy will show itself to you in greater and clearer ways than you may have imagined. Marya is now offering online courses called "Voice of my womb" and "Honoring the losses of the Womb" at www.rosebardacademy.com You can also learn more about her at www.marya-stark.com and enjoy her music on www.spotify.com

She also weaves all of what she does with mythopoetic threads. I really think you are going to love her and hopefully, you will be inspired to learn more about the language of birds as well. www.Holestoheavens.com http://www.marya-stark.com/
This week’s guest is independent culture critic John David Ebert – mythologist, philosopher, art historian, author of twenty-six books, and co-founder (with John Lobell) of http://cultural-discourse.com. We talk about the rich mythological references of Blade Runner 2049 in light of the larger – and very urgent – matter of mechanizing human reproduction and the (actually rather ancient) male quest to appropriate the mysteries of the goddess…Here’s John’s Blade Runner 2049 essay:http://cinemadiscourse.com/blade-runner-2049/John’s awesome YouTube channel:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5B4tbk3U40S4q_3Qt-cVgQJohn has a knack for connecting very different sources across civilizations and millennia, anchoring this conversation about a modern science fiction masterpiece in a transcultural Big Story of the evolution of human consciousness. (Listen if you liked Episodes 42 & 43 with William Irwin Thompson on planetary culture, Episode 38 with Marya Stark on reclaiming the feminine mysteries, Episode 18 with JF Martel on art and reality, and Episode 14 with Michael Phillip on WESTWORLD.)John David Ebert Quotes:“Every new cosmology makes new machines possible.”“I’m interested to hear about utopian projects…because after all, we’re going to need them.”We Discuss:- Marshall McLuhan’s work on Sputnik’s technological enclosure of the planet and the end of “nature” (not to mention “natural catastrophes”);- How poets and artists make visible the “invisible environment” of subliminal information about each age;- Art’s revelation of cosmology through history, from nested heavenly spheres in medieval religious art to the newly-opened skies of Dutch realists to our anxious re-immersion in the closed infinity of the Anthropocene as depicted by H.R. Giger;- The transition from worship of the Earth Mother to the Sky Father, and the centuries-long struggle to control the mysteries of birth and death with science;- The connection between Niander Wallace in 2049 and Enke, sumerian trickster creator god;- The difficulty of replicating ecosystems in space for those “off-world colonies”;- “Here There Be Tygers,” Jurassic Park, and how monsters (as avatars of the pissed-off Great Mother) disappeared from the Renaissance world maps but make a new appearance in hypermodernity, thanks to genetic engineering;- Akhenaten’s experiment in monotheistic sun god worshipping utopia;- What should we do with the 100% certainty that our cosmopolitan super-cities will all soon be underwater, and it’s time to rapidly escalate our alt-civilization experiments?- The evolution of civilizations, from early revelation to imperial phase to decline;- The rhyme of history between Ancient Rome and Modern America;- The retrieval of shamanism and the re-establishment of a polar civilization in the late 21st Century;- The lineage between Pacific Northwest spirit-travel shamanism and contemporary Californian VR avatar science fiction and superhero stories;- And more! THIS ONE IS PROBABLY NOT FOR YOUR KIDS!!!!! Nor for the serious religious!!! Nor for those of politically correct minion mind! It certainly is for truth seekers who also enjoy a good laugh at the ridiculousness of the whole thing with a dash of philosophical challenge to see both sides of the wild sleigh ride. Deepest Bow to the incredible Marya Stark for sharing her music, heart, mind, and magic. See you in Space, Santa! Many recent requests to relay original Christmas myths has awakened me from StarryTelling Podcast slumber. But how do I also remain asleep? On the other hand, how does Cheer conditioning prevent me from engaging with natural seasonal hibernation? Where do the traditions we have been cultured to unconsciously follow come from? How are they preserving some age old mysteries while destroying others? How can we recover Christmas from Consumerism? Is it time to push Pause on the Clause in order to retrieve the true magic of Winter Solstice or are we simply required to shift our perspective to return the heavyweight elf to Her true glory? What the hell does that even mean? If you enjoy real questions more than fake answers... this one is for you. Love and Planets, Gemini Brett MoreThanAstrology.com Marya Stark MaryaStarkMusic.com
This is the first chapter of a new collaboration between trickster starryteller Gemini Brett and medicine bardess Marya Stark to honor the stories of Inanna, Queen of Heaven and Earth, the mysteries of Venus, and the essence of the Divine Feminine and Sacred Masculine energies that are at the root of our great awakening. Each chapter will include a four element approach: Earth - a reading of Diane Wolkstein and Neil Kramer's Sumerian tablet translations from their book, "Inanna, Queen of Heaven and Earth." Water - a reflection upon the emotional application of the story for our healing. Air - an astronomical and astrological journey into the correlations of this starry story and the Venus Synodic Cycle (584-day dance of Venus, Earth, and Sun). Fire - a practice for purification and realignment. Seekers and Keepers from all walks of the Way will join the quest. These audio episodes will be accompanied by videos describing the what, why, who, and how of the process. You can view them through the 13th Flower playlist at the More Than Astrology YouTube channel or by joining the free, public facebook community "The Sovereign Sceptre of the Lioness." Links below.
