Sunday, November 12th - Way of The Wise Pt. 1Pastor Wes Morris Proverbs 4:7 (NIV) The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.√ We believe our way is the best way.√ We are resistant to change.√ We choose what feels good instead of what is good. I Kings 3:7-12 (NIV) Now, Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David. But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties. Your servant is here among the people you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number. So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?”The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this. So God said to him, “Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart.A DISCERNING HEARTDiscernment is not knowing the difference between right and wrong. It is knowing the difference between right and almost right. - Charles SpurgeonI. BEGINS WITH HUMILITY.Proverbs 11:2 (NIV) When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.Proverbs 18:12 (ESV) Before destruction a man's heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor.II. QUICK TO LISTEN.James 1:19 (NIV) My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.III. SURRENDERED TO THE WILL OF GOD. Message Notes: Matthew 14:22-32 (NIV) Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It's a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid.” “Lord, if it's you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.” ✓ DISTRACTIONS✓ DOUBTS✓ DISCOURAGEMENT II Corinthians 1:8-10 (NLT) We think you ought to know, dear brothers and sisters, about the trouble we went through in the province of Asia. We were crushed and overwhelmed beyond our ability to endure, and we thought we would never live through it. In fact, we expected to die. But as a result, we stopped relying on ourselves and learned to rely only on God, who raises the dead. We have placed our confidence in him, and he will continue to rescue us. TRUST GOD AGAIN I. TURN MY EYES TOWARD JESUS.Psalm 121:1-2 (NIV) I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. II. SEE GOD'S FAITHFULNESS IN MY SITUATION. Matthew 14:32 (NIV) And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God.They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!√ POWER√ PLEASURE√ PRIDEGenesis 3:1-7 (NLT) The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the Lord God had made. One day he asked the woman, “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?”“Of course we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,” the woman replied. “It's only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat. God said, ‘You must not eat it or even touch it; if you do, you will die.'”“You won't die!” the serpent replied to the woman. “God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.”6 The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too. At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves.A SELFLESS LIFEII Timothy 3:3 (NLT) They will be unloving and unforgiving...I. LOVE UNCONDITIONALLY.Luke 6:32-36 (MSG) Here is a simple rule of thumb for behavior: Ask yourself what you want people to do for you; then grab the initiative and do it for them! If you only love the lovable, do you expect a pat on the back? If you only help those who help you, do you expect a medal?I tell you, love your enemies. Help and give without expecting a return. You'll never regret it. Live out this God-created identity the way our Father lives toward us, generously and graciously, even when we're at our worst. Our Father is kind; you be kind.II. FORGIVE WILLINGLY.I Peter 3:9 (NIV) Don't repay evil for evil. Don't retaliate with insults when people insult you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God has called you to do, and he will grant you his blessing.

Such arguments are useless, and they can ruin those who hear them. Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth. Avoid worthless, foolish talk that only leads to more godless behavior. This kind of talk spreads like cancer, as in the case of Hymenaeus and Philetus. They have left the path of truth, claiming that the resurrection of the dead has already occurred; in this way, they have turned some people away from the faith.19 But God's truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and “All who belong to the Lord must turn away from evil.”√ REMEMBERv. 14 Remind everyone about these things...√ REMAIN√ REPENTv. 19 “All who belong to the Lord must turn away from evil.”Acts 2:38 (NLT) And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”A LIFE THAT HONORS GODII Timothy 2:20-21 (NLT) In a wealthy home some utensils are made of gold and silver, and some are made of wood and clay. The expensive utensils are used for special occasions, and the cheap ones are for everyday use. If you keep yourself pure, you will be a special utensil for honorable use. Your life will be clean, and you will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work.I. STAY USEFUL. II Timothy 2:22 (NLT) Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts.II. What is it that you are valuing most right now? 2 Timothy 1:13-14 (NIV) - What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus. Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you—guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.✓ Our Faith - Whose sincere faith now lives in you that needs to be guarded?✓ Our Gift - What God-given gifts are we protecting for the sake of the Kingdom?✓ The Gospel - What message are you preserving for people who don't know Jesus?2 Timothy 1:15-2:2 (NIV) - You know that everyone in the province of Asia has deserted me, including Phygelus and Hermogenes. May the Lord show mercy to the household of Onesiphorus, because he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains. On the contrary, when he was in Rome, he searched hard for me until he found me. May the Lord grant that he will find mercy from the Lord on that day! You know very well in how many ways he helped me in Ephesus. You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.GUARD THE GOOD DEPOSITI. HAVE AN INTENTIONAL FOCUS2 Timothy 2:3-7 (NIV) - Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer. Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor's crown except by competing according to the rules. The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops. Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this.II. REMEMBER THE WHY 2 Timothy 2:8-13 (NIV) - Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel, for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God's word is not chained. Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself.

For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.So never be ashamed to tell others about our Lord. And don't be ashamed of me, either, even though I'm in prison for him. With the strength God gives you, be ready to suffer with me for the sake of the Good News. For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show us his grace through Christ Jesus. And now he has made all of this plain to us by the appearing of Christ Jesus, our Savior. He broke the power of death and illuminated the way to life and immortality through the Good News. And God chose me to be a preacher, an apostle, and a teacher of this Good News.12 That is why I am suffering here in prison. But I am not ashamed of it, for I know the one in whom I trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until the day of his return.PAIN WITH A PURPOSEI. SOMETIMES PREPARATION COMES PACKAGED AS PAIN.II Timothy 1:8 (NLT) With the strength God gives you, be ready to suffer with me for the sake of the Good News.Luke 22:31-32 (NIV) “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”II. KEEP YOUR PROBLEMS IN PERSPECTIVE. Romans 5:3-4 (TLB) We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they are good for us—they help us learn to be patient. And patience develops strength of character in us and helps us trust God more each time we use it until finally our hope and faith are strong and steady. III. SURRENDER YOUR STRUGGLES TO GOD. II Timothy 1:12 (NLT) ...for I know the one in whom I trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him until the day of his return.Psalm 55:22 (NIV) Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken. There are dangers all round us. We are like men traveling in a land full of pickpockets and highwaymen, laden with gold and precious stones. On every side there are enemies that seek to rob us of that which is our true treasure - our own souls. We cannot keep ourselves. Slippery paths and weak feet go ill together. The tow in our hearts, and the fiery sparks of temptation that are flying all round about us, are sure to come together and make a blaze. We shall certainly come to ruin if we seek to get through life, to do its work, to face its difficulties, to cope with its struggles, to master its temptations, in our own poor, puny strength. So we must look for trusty hands and lodge our treasure there, where it is safe.- Alexander Maclaren

But do not let this freedom become an excuse for letting your physical desires control you. Instead, let love make you serve one another. For the whole Law is summed up in one commandment: “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” But if you act like wild animals, hurting and harming each other, then watch out, or you will completely destroy one another. What I say is this: let the Spirit direct your lives, and you will not satisfy the desires of the human nature. FLESH PRODUCES: BONDAGESPIRIT PRODUCES: FREEDOMFLESH PRODUCES: DOUBTSPIRIT PRODUCES: FAITHHebrews 11:6 (NIV) And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.FLESH PRODUCES: RELIGIONSPIRIT PRODUCES: RELATIONSHIPFLESH PRODUCES: LEGALISMSPIRIT PRODUCES: GRACERomans 6:14 (GW) Sin shouldn't have power over you because you're not controlled by God's laws, but by God's grace.Hebrews 4:16 (TLB) So let us come boldly to the very throne of God and stay there to receive his mercy and to find grace to help us in our times of need.THE PLACE OF FREEDOMGalatians 5:22-25 (NIV) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.I. ALLOW THE HOLY SPIRIT TO RENEW MY MIND. Romans 8:6 (NIV) If your sinful nature controls your mind, there is death. But if the Holy Spirit controls your mind, there is life and peace.II. IDENTIFY THE LIES I'VE BELIEVED. John 8:44 (NIV) When he (the devil) lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.√ ACKNOWLEDGE IT.√ ADDRESS IT.√ RENOUNCE IT. II Corinthians 10:5 (MSG) The world is unprincipled and it doesn't fight fair. But we don't live or fight our battles that way. We use our powerful God-tools for smashing warped philosophies, tearing down barriers erected against the truth of God, fitting every loose thought and emotion and impulse into a life shaped by Christ.III. SPEAK THE TRUTH. John 8:31-32 (NLT) Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. But to answer your question, you know the commandments: ‘You must not murder. You must not commit adultery. You must not steal. You must not testify falsely. You must not cheat anyone. Honor your father and mother.'”“Teacher,” the man replied, “I've obeyed all these commandments since I was young.” Looking at the man, Jesus felt genuine love for him.“There is still one thing you haven't done,” he told him. “Go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”At this the man's face fell, and he went away sad, for he had many possessions. ✓ Having more possessions will make me more secure.Hebrews 13:5 (GNT) Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never leave you; I will never abandon you.”✓ The things I own define who I am.✓ My stuff belongs to me.I Timothy 6:17 (NLT) Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment.PERSONAL DRIFTI. GIVING REMINDS US THAT GOD OWNS IT ALL.I Chronicles 29:11-12 (NLT) Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty. Everything in the heavens and on earth is yours, O Lord, and this is your kingdom. We adore you as the one who is over all things. Wealth and honor come from you alone, for you rule over everything.II. GIVING PRODUCES BLESSING IN MY LIFE.Malachi 3:6-10 (GNT) “I am the Lord, and I do not change. You, like your ancestors before you, have turned away from my laws and have not kept them. Turn back to me, and I will turn to you.But you ask, ‘What must we do to turn back to you?' I ask you, is it right for a person to cheat God? Of course not, yet you are cheating me. ‘How?' you ask. In the matter of tithes and offerings.A curse is on all of you because the whole nation is cheating me. Bring the full amount of your tithes to the Temple, so that there will be plenty of food there. Put me to the test and you will see that I will open the windows of heaven and pour out on you in abundance all kinds of good things.”✓ Tithing - returning to God what belongs to God.✓ Tithing - is a test of our heart. III. GIVING IS A STEP OF FAITH.Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV) Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.Proverbs 3:9-10 (NLT) Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce. Then he will fill your barns with grain, and your vats will overflow with good wine.
DRIFT PT. 3 | Sunday, August 20thPastor Wes MorrisHebrews 2:1 (NLT) We must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it.Daniel 1:3-8 (NIV) Then the king ordered some of the Israelites from the royal family and the nobility— young men without any physical defect, handsome, showing aptitude for every kind of learning, well informed, quick to understand, and qualified to serve in the king's palace. He was to teach them the language and literature of the Babylonians. The king assigned them a daily amount of food and wine from the king's table. They were to be trained for three years, and after that they were to enter the king's service.6 Among those who were chosen were some from Judah: Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah. The chief official gave them new names: to Daniel, the name Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abednego.8 But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way. CULTURAL DRIFT I. LET'S BE FULL OF GRACE AND TRUTH.John 1:14 (NIV) The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.II. LET'S NOT SWERVE TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT.Ephesians 5:3 (GNT) Since you are God's people, it is not right that any matters of sexual immorality or indecency or greed should even be mentioned among you. Nor is it fitting for you to use language which is obscene, profane, or vulgar. Rather you should give thanks to God.I Corinthians 6:9-11 (NLT) Don't fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God. Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.III. LET'S NOT FEAR PERSECUTION.John 15:20 (NIV) Remember what I told you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. II Timothy 3:12 (ESV) Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.IV. LET'S LIVE IN A WAY THAT HONORS GODI Corinthians 6:19-20 (GNT) Don't you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and who was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourselves but to God; he bought you for a price. So use your bodies for God's glory.About us: Bay Chapel is a life-giving church in the New Tampa community. Summer at Bay Chapel | June 18, 2023Pastor Wes Morris Genesis 50:14-21 (NLT) After burying Jacob, Joseph returned to Egypt with his brothers and all who had accompanied him to his father's burial. But now that their father was dead, Joseph's brothers became fearful. “Now Joseph will show his anger and pay us back for all the wrong we did to him,” they said.So they sent this message to Joseph: “Before your father died, he instructed us to say to you: ‘Please forgive your brothers for the great wrong they did to you—for their sin in treating you so cruelly.' So we, the servants of the God of your father, beg you to forgive our sin.” When Joseph received the message, he broke down and wept. Then his brothers came and threw themselves down before Joseph. “Look, we are your slaves!” they said. But Joseph replied, “Don't be afraid of me. Am I God, that I can punish you? And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.1 Peter 5:6-7 ESV - Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.Luke 2:49-52 ESV - And he said to them, “Why were you looking for me? KEEP THE VIEW CLEAR.Hebrews 12:1-2 ESV - Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

What Women Want The day after giving him a laptop for his 53rd birthday. Dell 5100 Inspiron weighs 7.22 pounds, has a 30 gig hard drive, 2.4 GHz, 14.1" XGA TFT Screen, 384 MB, 56K modem, 24X CD-RW/DVD Combo Drive, True Mobile wireless Broadband Router, Office XP, Extended 3 year warranty with free 24/7 tech support, USB200 Advanced port, Mini PCI, MS Money 2002, Jukebox, Office XP and a wireless mouse (because I just hate putting a mouse on a leash). Dear Howie, I am the one with the ego problem. I have never been able to let others do things for me. I have to disassociate myself from the cats to ask for help there and have to keep telling myself that people are doing it for the animals and to fulfill their own need to do something noble. I know that what you do for the cats, you are doing for me and that your sense of leaving a mark is tied to what you do for people and not so much for the animals. Knowing that has made me feel uncomfortable because as much as I need and want your help, I cannot let you do that for me, because of my own overdeveloped sense of pride. You have indicated that I can pay you at some time in the future, but meanwhile you have invested an inordinate amount of time and thought into helping me that I have felt powerless to repay. Perhaps I am not as observant as you, but I cannot think of anything that I can do for you to show how much I appreciate what you have already done for me. I am not going to take ALL of the responsibility for this inequity ;-) You seem to have a very hard time assessing value to your ability. This has been my meager attempt to repay a debt that I consider to be far greater than the price of a computer. This thing wouldn't even cover 10 hours of your time and you have spent that much on helping me in less than 2 days. I don't even know what your shed cleaning rate is, but it's got to be more than sitting at a desk ;-) I don't mean to diminish any of the feelings you have and I am especially sensitive to you feeling kept. This is probably what it at the core of freaking my family out whenever I am in a relationship. I change to accommodate the person because my sense of self has always been in reflecting those around me. Whatever is your desire in life becomes mine and gives me a sense of joy to be helping you have whatever it is that you want from life. You have told me that your desire is to make me happy and that caught me off balance, because I am still not certain how to help you help me, without me feeling that this is all about me, when it's my nature to want to make it all about you. The more I learn about the reasons I behave the way I do, the more capable I am of being myself, but that person is still a bit of a mystery to me. I feel bad for you that I am so attached to this place, because I realize how strange that must feel to you to come here. It is made worse by the stigma caused by what others may say or think. The only saving grace is that when your friends see the place they can understand that it is about the uniqueness of the property and not the opulence of the home that makes the island the undeniable best choice of locations. It just can't be duplicated. Frankly, your address is far more prestigious than Town N Country, which has reputation of being blue collar. Nonetheless, I do realize that you have had to make a considerable concession with your own pride, for a man who is so capable of taking care of himself, to agree to come here just to make me happy. I think that alone speaks volumes about your own inner strength. I also appreciate the way you just come right out and say what is on your mind. You do it in such a polite way, that I often wonder if I caught all of what you were trying to say. Some of the things you have had to say were probably very hard, or uncomfortable for you, but you have had the wisdom to know when it needed saying and the courage to say it. I admire that. I apologize for tear-ing up on you, because that has to make things so much harder on you, but I cry easily (as you have undoubtedly figured out by now). Jews used to hire professional mourners, and I always thought I would have been in high demand. When Alan's father died (a man I had met once) I was the most distraught person in the room. No one knew who I was and later it was told that they all assumed I was the mistress. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. Below are the details on the laptop so that you can think about what you want to do. With laplink it is so easy to synchronize computers that you might do well to keep this and buy an extremely small and portable one that you just synchronize before and after trips like a PDA. That way you still have the benefit of the CD burner for back ups, the larger keyboard and screen for home use and the portability of something ridiculously small for the road. Whatever you choose to do is fine with me. WHAT WOMEN WANT! Young King Arthur was ambushed and imprisoned by the monarch of a neighboring kingdom. The monarch could have killed him but was moved by Arthur's youth and ideals. So the monarch offered him freedom, as long as he could answer a very difficult question. Arthur would have a year to figure out the answer; if after a year, he still had no answer, he would be put to death. The question: What do women really want? Such a question would perplex even the most knowledgeable man, and to young Arthur, it seemed an impossible query. But since it was better than death, he accepted the monarch's proposition to have an answer by year's end. He returned to his kingdom and began to poll everybody: the princess, the priests, the wise men, the court jester. He spoke with everyone, but no one could give him a satisfactory answer. Many people advised him to consult the old witch, only she would know the answer. The price would be high; the witch was famous throughout the kingdom for the exorbitant prices she charged. The last day of the year arrived and Arthur had no alternative but to talk to the witch. She agreed to answer his question, but he'd have to accept her price first: The old witch wanted to marry Gawain, the most noble of the Knights of the Round Table and Arthur's closest friend! Young Arthur was horrified. She was hunchbacked and hideous, had only one tooth, smelled like sewage, made obscene noises, etc. He had never encountered such a repugnant creature. He refused to force his friend to marry her and have to endure such a burden. Gawain, upon learning of the proposal, spoke with Arthur. He told him that nothing was too big a sacrifice compared to Arthur's life and the preservation of the Round Table. Hence, their wedding was proclaimed, and the witch answered Arthur's question thus: What a woman really wants is to be in charge of her own life. Everyone instantly knew that the witch had uttered a great truth and that Arthur's life would be spared. And so it was. The neighboring monarch granted Arthur total freedom. What a wedding Gawain and the witch had! Arthur was torn between relief and anguish. Gawain was proper as always, gentle and courteous. The old witch put her worst manners on display, and generally made everyone very uncomfortable. The honeymoon hour approached. Gawain, steeling himself for a horrific experience, entered the bedroom. But what a sight awaited him! The most beautiful woman he'd ever seen lay before him! The astounded Gawain asked what had happened. The beauty replied that since he had been so kind to her when she'd appeared as a witch, she would henceforth be her horrible, deformed self half the time, and the other half, she would be her beautiful maiden self. Which would he want her to be during the day, and which during the night? What a cruel question! Gawain pondered his predicament. During the day, a beautiful woman to show off to his friends, but at night, in the privacy of his home, an old witch? Or would he prefer having by day a hideous witch, but by night a beautiful woman with whom to enjoy many intimate moments? What would you do? What Gawain chose follows below, but don't read it until you've made your own choice. Make YOUR choice BEFORE you read Gawain's answer! Noble Gawain replied that he would let her choose for herself. Upon hearing this, she announced that she would be beautiful all the time because he had respected her enough to let her be in charge of her own life. What is the moral of this story? The moral is: If your woman doesn't get her own way, things are going to get ugly Howie writes to Carole 5/14/03 : For all our joking about "nothing in common", we are alike in many of the most important ways. It should make it easier for us to continue to get to know each other (and ourselves as we see that reflection of ourselves in each other) and to hopefully understand each other. I talked to Dell for a bit. Did not explain the situation, just inquired as if new purchase. I think the 600m is very good alternative. In addition to lower weight, it has longer battery life and the wireless is built into the centrino chip instead of added (although I have heard some conflict about if this is better). Want to spend a little time on the specs and options before making the switch. I will pay any differences. Do you know what the process is? The guy I spoke to said they pay shipping on returns, but I did not ask about exchanging.. I wonder if it is simplest to send the other one back and order fresh vs. swap, but maybe they can handle latter. There are also a couple of discounts they say are based only an online order, so not sure if calling to switch affects that. Anyway, we can talk about it later. Thanks VERY much for this spectacular gift and the wonderful thought and intent behind it! Howie Carole writes to Howie 5/15/03 : I found a home for Chester the Chausie Bengal Cat with Don Machen 907-7396 who lives in New Tampa and works for JP Morgan. He is 50, lives alone, has no other pets and loved it when Chester would bite him. They will be good for each other. Now Howie can bring Sydney and Crystal and put them on the back porch so that they are safe from Maya (my other Bengal cat). I've been writing my story since I was able to write, but when the media goes to share it, they only choose the parts that fit their idea of what will generate views. If I'm going to share my story, it should be the whole story. The titles are the dates things happened. If you have any interest in who I really am please start at the beginning of this playlist: http://savethecats.org/ I know there will be people who take things out of context and try to use them to validate their own misconception, but you have access to the whole story. My hope is that others will recognize themselves in my words and have the strength to do what is right for themselves and our shared planet. Hey Weight Loss Nation! www.TheWeightLossNation.com It's Tuesday.....that means it's a Tampa Bay Tuesday and I am reviewing "Acropolis Taverna" in Ybor City. The address for Acropolis in Ybor City is: 1833 E 7th Ave, Tampa, FL 33605 They serve Lunch & Dinner Hours Sunday through Thursday - 11:00am - 11:00pm Friday and Saturday - 11:00am - 1:00am Website - www.acropolistaverna.com Phone - 813-242-4545 The Menu is Filled with Healthy Options! Here are a few LUNCH examples: CHARBROILED EGGPLANT: Charbroiled, thick sliced eggplant grilled with crushed red pepper over spring mix with tomatoes, kalamata olives, red onions, halloumi cheese & cucumber. Served with oven toasted pita strips and pomegranate vinaigrette. Tell your waiter “NO” pita strips! & put the dressing on the side! KARPATHOS CHICKEN Seasoned grilled chicken breast, sun-dried tomatoes, red onions, cucumbers, red peppers, dolmades, tomatoes, pepperoncini and halloumi cheese over spring greens. Served with toasted pita strips and ̧Acropolis Greek dressing Again…..Tell your waiter “NO” pita strips! & put the dressing on the side! SALMON Grilled Salmon on a bed of spinach with quinoa, grapes, roasted walnuts, red onions and red pepper, topped with carmelized onions. Served with toasted pita strips and mango dressing One more time…..Tell your waiter “NO” pita strips! & put the dressing on the side! They have soups, more salad, vegetarian “MOUSAKA” as we say in NY or Mooosakaa in the rest of the U.S. Delicious Hummus…..They also have What I call …..Babaloo! but is actually called….. Baba Ganouj…..which is Roasted eggplant spread….. topped with extra virgin olive oil. The menu is Filled with healthy options! Just Leave the Pita off your plate and chow down on all these healthy vegetables, fish and meats! Here’s what I ordered the night of the review…. I asked for the best item on the menu……and w/o hesitation, I was told to order…… OCTOPUS!!!!! Now…I’ve had “Calamari” before. That makes me think of the movie “Moon Stuck” where Nicholas Cage’s plays “Ronny Cammareri” and the part in the movie, where the lady who works in the bakery says……”Stop it Ronnie, you’re scaring me” In NY…..the Italians say “Cala maaaa” Us NYers barely finish a word. Regular NYers….who are not Italian….say “Calamari” Getting back on track…..what’s the difference between “Cala Maaa” AND Octopus? Calamari is the Italian word for “Squid.” Squid has an elongated body with tentacles. The meat is white and firmer than Octopus. When cooked right, it should taste firm but NOT rubbery. Octopus has a round head and body with tentacles. The meat is sweet and not firm. You learn a lot when you research things! Never had Octopus before. I said…..bring OUT the OCTOPUS! And….I have to tell you….it was the “most TENDER” Octopus I have EVER had! Grilled octopus marinated in lemon and olive oil vinaigrette with fresh garlic, capers, zucchini and diced tomato . Delicious! For dinner……. I ordered the Grilled FRESH Red Snapper. Now….this comes out as a “Whole” red snapper …..the entire fish….head, EYES, tail….FISH on a plate! It is marinated in rosemary, garlic, extra virgin olive oil and fresh lemons charbroiled and topped with the house lemon herb marinade. You get a choice of two sides. I ordered the Roasted Vegetables and Artichoke Quinoa! I don’t particularly like looking at a FISH Head on my plate, and I certainly don’t like all the bones, but RED SNAPPER is a nice sized fish, where I was able to eatmost of the body meat, w/o biting into any bones. The RED SNAPPER was cooked Perfectly! The meat was falling off of the fish. Made it easy to eat & not get any bones. The Roasted Vegetables were carrots and squash. VERY Good. Seasoned well and tender. The QUINOA was FANTASTIC! Lot’s of YUMMS…..coming out of my mouth! Overall, the meal was absolutely DELICIOUS! Acropolis ….of course…..is known for it’s Delicious and Authentic Greek food…..but Acropolis….also has…….ENTERTAINMENT! A Belly Dancer starts the Entertainment! A beautiful woman dressed for “Belly Dancing” dancing around the entire restaurant, entertaining you while you’re eating. Then……the BIG entertainment begins! Every Hour there is……. Bouzouki Plate Breaking! What the heck is Bouzouki Plate Breaking you ask? It is a Greek custom of breaking plates during celebratory occasions (weddings) When the music is played from the Bouzouki…(like a mandolin) The manager or owner of Acropolis starts the clapping and moves towards the barrel or bucket. He picks up a stack of plates and then as fast as he can………he starts flinging the plates into the bucket, breaking the plates, with pure passion….until the stack in his hand is gone! This is like done in around 5-10 seconds! FAST! Then ……..the crowd reacts to the demonstration with a HUGE “OOPA” if they are satisfied! OOPA literally translates into “Ooops” but in Greek…..it has taken on the “emotional response” and admiration for Breaking the plates in excellent fashion. So the owner of Acropolis wants to hear “OPA” And that’s NOT ALL! The waiters & waitresses line up to do “Zorba Dancing” For all you Millenials out there….look up the 1964 film… “Zorba the Greek.” In the movie…..Alexis Zorbas (played by the famous Anthony Quinn) dances to not only relieve his stress, but to be the “inspirational force” that guides him to confront and finally ……. Overcome the challenges he was facing in life and work. Great movie! It’s a moving, uplifting moment at Acropolis! Patrons are waving napkins and throwing them on the floor as a final gesture of their excitement and admiration for the Bouzouki plate breaker. Lots of fun and great food at Acropolis! The food was fresh, and delicious. The staff were engaging, polite and brought out each dish at the appropriate times. The manager was seen going from table to table making sure the guests were happy. The owner, Sam was fantastic! Not only was a hell of a “plate breaker” I watched him speaking with staff as well as customers, to ensure everyone was having a great evening. How did Acropolis Rate …… Acropolis gets a BIG 2 Thumbs up for it’s fresh and healthy food choices. Don’t look at or touch the Pita’s and you will enjoy your meal at Acropolis. Acropolis also gets a HUGE 2 thumbs up for it’s Entertainment! Really breaks up the evening and gets everyone in the place involved and uplifted! Thanks to Sam for providing top notch food and entertainment for the Tampa Bay residents and tourists. Acropolis has SIX locations 1. Ybor City 2. New Tampa 3. South Tampa 4. St. Petersburg 5. Sex Crimes Kids Bauer Crider & Parry Podcast Brad: Alright, you are listening to the FloridaDefense.com Podcast. We are speaking to St Petersburg Sexual Battery Defense Lawyer Mike Kenny at the Bauer Crider & Parry Law Firm. Mike, how are you? Mike: I'm very well. How are you doing? B: I'm doing well. Today we're going to be talking about sex crimes versus kids but I want to just kind of throw out there I know you guys have multiple offices. You kind of cover a wide area there in the Tampa, the greater Tampa area. Could you mention kind of, well first of all, let's talk about the offices that you have and then some of the other areas that you target. M: Well, we have an office in Hillsborough County, and that office is actually right across the street from the courthouse on Twiggs Street in Tampa. So that office is kind of designed for our Tampa clients and our Tampa type cases which covers anything from Plant City, Wesley Chapel, New Tampa, obviously the entire Tampa area. We have an office in Clearwater, and that's kind of more of our Pinellas County office and obviously it's gonna cover all of your cases throughout Pinellas County which will be Clearwater, Clearwater Beach, St Petersburg, St Pete Beach, Largo, Tarpon Springs, you've got Pinellas Park, Kenneth City, obviously Pinellas County is a large area and we definitely cover a lot of cases throughout the county there. We have two offices in Pasco County. We have one in Port Richey and one in Trinity Florida. Obviously our Pasco County reach covers New Port Richey, Dade City, Port Richey, Holiday. The Port Richey office also covers Brooksville cases which I tend to handle on a repeat basis and the main area in Hernando County that I cover is going to be Brooksville and obviously then we have our Trinity office. Our Trinity office also covers, because we do a lot of work in Pasco County, covers the same places in Pasco County, New Port Richey, Port Richey, Holiday, Dade City, Hudson. B: Great. So you guys are pretty much all over the place in the Tampa area with four different offices to choose from. M: Sure. B: Well, let's - Mike, let's go ahead and jump in. Let's talk a little bit about sex crimes versus kids or versus a child and I'll just kind of if you can kind of just give us an overview of that. M: Alright, well, so there's two types of sex crimes, or two categories of sex crimes involving children. And there's actually, now that I think about it there might actually be even three if you want to kind of divide it up even further. But the sex crimes are initially the battery - whether or not there's a sexual battery. Battery, as I talked about in a previous podcast talks about essentially penetration. That's what you're looking for. Sexual battery is defined as oral, anal, or vaginal penetration by or union with the sexual organ of another or the anal or vaginal penetration of another by any other object. So that's kind of what you look for if you're talking about was it a sexual battery or not? And there's other types of crimes and crimes that don't involve penetration but involve touching - that's where you get the term molestation. 3:46 (skipped per Brad's request) 3:54 But those types of crimes are crimes that don't involve any type of sexual battery, whether it be penetration of the mouth with a sexual organ or the penis or vagina. So in that set of circumstances, you've got that category and then the next category is the age. Obviously, as we talked about before, the age of consent for sexual activity in Florida, generally speaking, is 16 years old. So the key age that we look for in a sexual battery case is the victim has to be 15 or younger. So if the victim is under the age of 15, that becomes a crime if there is either a molestation or there is a penetration, sexual battery type situation. So if you have a scenario where there has been alleged sexual activity like actual intercourse between someone over the age of 15 - and that could be 16, 17, 18, whatever, you don't even have to be an adult, but someone over the age of 15 having sexual intercourse with a 15 year old, that is a lewd or lascivious battery. And that's a specific crime that addresses sex of a person younger than 16 - basically 15 and older than 12 - it's a lewd or lascivious battery. If a person, this is the next category that I was going to talk to you about - this third unique category. If a person who is a victim of a sexual battery is under the age of 12, that in Florida is defined as a Capital Sexual Battery. Years and years and years ago that crime was punishable by death. Now it is obviously punishable by life in prison without parole. So if a person is convicted of a sexual battery, there is no other option for that person other than a life in prison type sentence. So the age matters very much because it completely changes the term of years a person might be facing and the severity of sentence the person might be facing. If a person's under 12 and it's sexual intercourse, it's gonna be a life imprisonment sentence if they get convicted. If a person's under 15, it's gonna be much less significant, it's not even gonna be a life sentence at all. The next question or category of concern is the molestation type charges. A lewd or lascivious molestation can happen above or under the clothing so situations where a person is fondled over their shirt, for instance, that can qualify as a lewd or lascivious molestation. B: Mike, can I jump in real quick there. That is similar to - you said that you don't necessarily have indecent exposure there in Florida, but that's kind of what that's referring to, is that correct? M: No, that's another unique, it's not really a crime where there's contact with another person, but in Florida, obviously everyone can imagine there's crimes that involve people exposing themselves to other folks. In Florida that's called a lewd or lascivious exhibition. A lewd or lascivious exhibition, the key phrase there is lewd or lascivious, that the person is exposing him or herself in a lewd or lascivious manner, which means of a sexually oriented nature. For instance, give you an idea, a guy who's driving on a long trip and had a lot to drink beverage wise and needs to get out of the car and use the facilities of the forest, that person is not committing a lewd or lascivious exhibition if he gets caught by police urinating on the side of the road. Now, there is another crime for that. That's generally speaking a disorderly conduct type crime, but there's also a crime called exposure of sexual organs. That's a misdemeanor and it's not a sex related crime per say, you don't have a sexual registration requirement or anything like that, but exposure of sexual organs comes up when a person's (obviously sexual organs being a penis or a vagina) are exposed and there's nothing about the act in and of itself that shows it's of a sexually motivated manner. There isn't any talk about sex, there isn't any fondling. There isn't anything that would indicate other than the person is exposed. So that's a misdemeanor. But if a person exposes himself and exposes himself to a person under the age of 16, that's when you start to get into the lewd or lascivious exhibition problem. That's when you get to the felony aspect of it. It has to be both an exposure and it has to be an exposure in front of a person under the age of 16, you need a witness to it who is under the age of 16, and it has to be again, of a lewd or lascivious manner. So it's got to be something that is sexually oriented and I'm sure we don't need to go over every single scenario where that could be, but some unique cases have come up where there have been cases that have been litigated and actually gone up to appellate courts where a person fought a lewd or lascivious exhibition conviction because he or she answered the door and he happened to be naked from the waist down and there happened to be some children who were at the door. Some discussion about those cases talked about how he might have been in his own home but he clearly knew that there was children coming to the door to sell something. Sell raffle tickets, girl scout cookies, and even talked about whether or not there was - the sexual organ itself was flaccid or not. So there's a lot of things that the court looks to to describe the intentional exposure of a sexual organ designed to be in a lewd and lascivious manner. B: Alright, one thing we didn't talk about is child pornography, which is obviously a sex crime versus a kid, right? Might be a whole another podcast, but is there anything that you want to touch on that? M: Well, the and we kind of had a podcast before talking about computer crimes, but the issue of possession of child pornography that the basic idea behind it is the person either has an image either on paper - tangible like he can hold it - or he or she has it in his computer and they're images of children. And they're not photographs of baby pictures, right? I'm sure everybody has a baby picture somewhere of his or her own child. But these are photographs that have the children in a sexually provocative manner. It's not just a naked child, but it's a child in a sexually oriented fashion. A lot of these images that get caught and punished are horrible images of children involved in sexual activity with other children or even adults. So it's not something where someone can get in trouble just for having a naked picture, because that's not necessarily pornography. Pornography has to have a sexual element attached to it. The sex crimes that we were talking about where we have the under 12 which is a life felony if it's a sexual battery. If it's not a sexual battery but a molestation, which is a hand touching the chest or the buttocks or the sexual organ of the other person, those are molestation type cases. And if the person is under 12 in that case, but it's not a sexual battery, it's still a life type felony. When I say a life type felony, those cases are punishable by 25 years to life. So the idea here, is the legislature is very hard on sex crimes to begin with and the laws are very strict, but they are even more severe when the children become of such a young age that we're talking 10 or 11 years old - anything under 12. As a prosecutor, I prosecuted tons of capital sexual battery cases. I went to trial on several and those folks who got convicted are still sitting in prison and they're going to spend the rest of their lives in prison. So the penalty is severe. That's why, if you find yourself accused of something this horrific, the first thing you're gonna want to do is make sure you find yourself a lawyer who you trust and a lawyer who you believe has got the ability to defend you. Because the cost is great. B: Alright, anything else on that Mike? M: No Sir, I think that covers it. B: You've been listening to the FloridaDefense.com Podcast. We've been speaking to St Petersburg Criminal Defense Attorney Mike Kenny at the Bauer Crider & Parry Law Firm. We will see you on the next podcast.
