Malissa Smith, boxing historian that specializes in women's boxing chats with Cynthia for BWBSP about her second book "Promise of Women's Boxing: A Momentus New Era for the Sweet Science," that will be released June 4. Smith will be having a book launch party at the famous Gleason's Gym in New York City June 15 open to the public with an all-female women in boxing panel. Smith spoke on the premise of her new book and why it was time after 10 years, to write another one after her first book, "A History of Women's Boxing," in 2014. Smith goes into detail of how women's boxing has evolved from 2012 Olympics to now, how women are getting paid and underpaid, quality of opponents, the lack of women bouts on cards and calls out certain promoters for not doing enough for women's boxing, and how Claressa Shields, Katie Taylor and Ebanie Bridges have changed women's boxing overall. Smith also credits Eddie Hearn and Jake Paul for putting women's boxing in the spotlight. Also, Cynthia and Jeandra preview 5 vs 5 card, Queensbury vs. Matchroom card that goes down June 1, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with our picks and betting odds! Learn more about your ad choices. Welcome to Season Five of Countermelody! While I indulge in a much-needed break for the month of January (my first in four years!), I have asked a number of Countermelody fans and listeners to provide spoken introductions to some of their favorite episodes from the first three seasons of the podcast. Today conductor Brian Castles-Onion introduces an episode from June 2020, as we neared the height of the pandemic and the panic surrounding it. It is an interview with Ira Siff, artistic director of La Gran Scena Opera Company di New York, alter ego of the beloved “traumatic soprano” Vera Galupe-Borszkh, lecturer for the Metropolitan Opera Guild and Weekly Commentator on the Metropolitan Opera broadcasts. So much has changed for everyone since the interview was recorded in January 2020, most poignantly (as relates to this episode) the death of our beloved Chic Walker (who portrayed Dame Emily Post-Morddum and Alfredo Sorta-Pudgi in La Gran Scena) on 11 April 2022; and the passing of Renata Scotto on 16 August 2023. My association with Ira Siff and La Gran Scena Opera Company di New York goes back more than thirty years, when Ira provided me with my first employment as a professional singer when my alter ego Daniela della Scarpone sang for two years with the renowned travesty opera company. I sat down with Ira in his East Village apartment in January 2020 for a wide-ranging interview in which we discuss his early days as a standee at the old Met (where some of his opera-going experiences included Maria Callas's final Tosca performances, Renata Scotto's 1965 debut as Madama Butterfly, and Leonie Rysanek's wild traversals of Verdi and Wagner). He discusses his first performing experiences in the early 1970s in association with Al Carmines and others, the genesis of La Gran Scena and their development into a worldwide phenomenon, and his subsequent “legitimate” career as lecturer, stage director, vocal coach and voice teacher and commentator all stemmed from in his words, “getting in a dress and singing soprano,” which he dubs “the strangest part.” This is a free-wheeling and extremely Opera Queeny interview, peppered with Ira's unique anecdotes and snippets from Gran Scena (and other!) performances. Today's guest host Brian Castles-Onion is one of Australia's most exciting and well-known opera conductors. Completing his tertiary studies at the Newcastle Conservatorium of Music, his outstanding achievements speak for themselves. He has worked at New York's Metropolitan Opera, the Julliard School of Music and the Rossini Festival in Italy, and has held the position of Artistic Director of Canterbury Opera in New Zealand. He currently continues his long run association with Opera Australia. His conducting experience includes well over five hundred opera performances throughout Australia, Asia and New Zealand alone. He was on the podium for Opera Australia's 40th Anniversary Gala and 60th Anniversary Gala, The Robert Allman Farewell Gala and conducted the Dame Joan Sutherland State Memorial Service – which was broadcast internationally on television and radio. His book Losing the Plot in Opera has been a Best Seller in Australia and the UK. Brian became a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the 2017 Australia Day Honours List. Today's interviewee and subject, Ira Siff, is a native New Yorker, who grew up on the standing room line of the old Metropolitan Opera, worshiping the famous singers of the 60's. A graduate of the Cooper Union, with a degree in Fine Arts, Mr. Siff began to study voice, and made his debut as a tenor in 1970. For the next decade, he performed roles in opera, operetta and musicals in New York, at The New York Shakespeare Festival, Circle in the Square, Playwrights Horizons, and many other venues. Turning to cabaret, Ira created an act using vocal parody of opera, jazz, and other styles of music, gaining critical acclaim, and a loyal following. In 1981, he founded La Gran Scena Opera Company di New Yor...

In this episode of the Managing Uncertainty Podcast, Bryghtpath Principal & Chief Executive Bryan Strawser discusses Business Continuity as a Service (BCaaS) and how you can mature your business continuity program through outsourcing your program with a company like Bryghtpath. Topics discussed include what is business continuity as a service, how you can use it to mature your business continuity program while reducing your organization’s financial commitment to the program, and why companies would choose to outsource this service versus doing it in-house. Related Episodes & Blog Posts Blog Post: Business Continuity as a Service: How to Outsource Your Continuity Program Blog Post: Before the Crisis: The Value of a Trusted Business Continuity & Crisis Management Advisor Episode #45: Small Business Continuity Planning Episode #102: The Bryghtpath Business Continuity Framework Episode #106: Rethinking Business Continuity in the age of COVID-19 Episode Transcript Hello, and welcome to the Managing Uncertainty Podcast. This is Bryan Strawser, principal and chief executive here at Bryghtpath. And this week I would like to talk about outsourcing your business continuity program. Or in other words, how can you contract with a company like us to provide business continuity as a service? Now, lots of companies build and manage their business continuity programs in-house. They might hire an expert that has run a team before, run a program before at another organization. But they often will hire an expert in resiliency to help design and execute a program internally. But this comes with challenges. And if you lack the in-house expertise, or you need to implement a business continuity program quickly, you have another option. And that is business continuity as a service. So what is that? What does that mean? Well, business continuity as a service is the practice of contracting with a third-party firm to design, build, execute, and maintain your resiliency program, your business continuity program. And at Bryghtpath, we work with a number of companies to do exactly this. And we often use the ISO 22301 standard as the industry standard, as to how we approach that service. We offer business continuity as a service to companies of all sizes. Small consulting firms, up to multi-billion dollar utilities, healthcare organizations, and technology firms. So when we define business continuity as a service, we’re talking about the practice of contracting with a third-party firm to design-build, execute, and maintain your program. Now, why would you do this? Why would you outsource this? Well, there’s a lot of reasons why companies choose business continuity as a service instead of building and managing a program in-house. The first one is that building that in-house team can be hard. In many locations, you’re just not going to find that many experienced business continuity experts, particularly those that will fit with the unique culture and approach of your organization. And that makes the recruiting and retention process very difficult. Even in larger locations like Boston, or Los Angeles, London, New Yor

Tara v epizodi opiše poklic baletnega plesalca in svojo baletno popotovanje. Although related to acupressure, acupuncture, and massage therapy, the Art of Jin Shin is not a physical manipulation of tissue and uses only minimal pressure. It uses a gentle touch with the fingers and hands to redirect or unblock the flow of energy that has gotten stuck in the body. This simple, gentle process allows energy to flow smoothly in the correct direction. With balance restored, a sense of well-being and calm emerges. Please join us Thursday to discover the power of self-care.

Symposia on Cancer Research 2012: Immunology and Inflammation in Cancer
Laurie H. Glimcher, M.D., Weill Cornell Medical College, New York, New Yor
Dr Larry Norton talks to ecancer about drug resistance and targeting pathways at IMPAKT 2012 in Brussels, May 2012. Dr Norton states that cancer research is at the point where the understanding of cancer is enough to start driving towards eradication of the disease. While numerous pathways have been identified, there are only about ten critical pathways. Dr Norton is currently working on applying mathematics to the problem of using more than one drug in a complementary system. The difficulty in intelligent dosing with targeted therapy is finding a balance in treatment. If treated too intensely, resistance will develop quicker, therefore treatment needs to be slow paced in order to overcome and, in some cases, prevent resistance.
